Porsche GTS Lightweight Manual is brilliant so, this or GT3 which would you take?

  • Porsche 992 GTS. manual transmission cars are getting scarce, yet Porsche understands the appeal of stick shifters which means, rare as it is, old school manual versions of the Porsche 911 GTS are still with us.
And having that choice available is wonderful, yet with the PDK semi automatic gearbox being such a fantastic transmission this manual shifter needs to be at least as equally impressive,
And so, to find out if pulling that stick and pushing that clutch can be as fulsome a driving experience as the snappy PDK and to find out if this lightweight package GTS can challenge the GT3 as a driver's car, join me Roger Bailey on what is going to be an excellent day of Porsche driving.

The biggest advantage of the GTS compared to the GT3 is the torque.
GT3 for the race track, but definitely GTS (manual!) for the road.

I think it depends what you want the car for Roger. I’m on my second GT3 and love them as it’s a weekend toy. Have recently done the Porsche Silverstone Experience and drove the C2S on track. Much softer and easier to live with than a GT3, still hugely capable and rewarding to drive. If I was using a 911 as as a daily I would defo go GTS rather than GT3, otherwise for fun and sense of occasion on weekends, it’s a GT3 for me! NA 4.0, revving to 9K…..

I dont know about that. The NA engine develops and delivers power very differently, The ride is much stiffer, even uncomfortable vs. the GTS in some case, the GT almost requires FAL for around town use where the. GTS doesn't as much. Both phenominal cars, but I think the differences are enough so as not to be a slightly turned up difference.@@jameswillard1

Definitely over 500bhp as you say, and it is rapid in any gear and any revs, pulls so strongly in any situation. Faster than a GT3 in the real world in my humble opinion. The GTS with a manual gearbox should delight most 911 drivers and is the most perfect 911 for me as an all-rounder. The GT3 is a track tool and also a legend, but unfortunately without a manual gearbox, which is why I would go for the GTS.

But if I had to choose for pure driving pleasure, from what I've seen so far, I'd say a manual Carrera T with a few add ons (APR Stage 1 remap [500hp], Fr Axle lift, Night vision, etc) seems to be THE one to own. I know I like it! ;-)

I really liked it as a daily driver. However I would really like to have a go in a manual Carrera T . I’m sure that would be sweet and probably all you really need. A difficult choice for someone who is familiar with a few 911ses and Flat-6 Porsches. The GTS and 4GTS are very good choices and great cars to drive. With the lightweight pack, I would prefer a manual gearbox. Otherwise, the PDK. Plenty of oomph and a fair amount of daily usability (with the Comfort seats) if you don’t opt for the back seats delete and opt for the nose lift.
Nevertheless, If I could, I would choose a GT3 Touring with the manual shift, despite the car’s limited appeal as a daily. As a matter of fact, I think I would go for a Carrera T. The basics with bags of soul and 911 DNA.
