I have been binge-watching RUclips videos of artists for probably ten years since I retired. Nothing really struck me as something I would enjoy and perhaps be successful at trying. After enjoying your videos, I'm thinking collage might be the way to go. I'm taking your class now on color, and I thank you for being such an inspiration!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching these paintings appear . I love listening to your talking while you are painting, explaining your journey. So helpful to me, and interesting .
it’s hard for me to relinquish expectations a lot of times… thank you for teaching me all about letting your own intuition guide your creative process!! i will also say, there is always room for improvement on a painting!
This process is fascinating and the finished pieces are simply marvellous. I could look at the shapes and colors and layers building up and transforming all day. I am looking forward to taking this course as well soon! Thank you for sharing your amazing art (process). xo
Thank you Maggie-it really is a fun process! If you feel like you get stuck trying to paint looser and less representational, then I know you’d like the course a lot.
Thank you so much for explaining your process. I have spent my whole life trying to "control" and getting nowhere. This video caught me at a time when I was so down and really needed these words. Thank you! 💖
I’m so happy to hear this! And I relate to what you’re saying-I have spent many years doing that as well and that’s pretty much why I had to seek out ways of learning to do it and think about it differently.
Love your work and your videos are really relaxing and helpful. Today has been really hard, but a little better creating with your videos on… thank you
Hi Marabeth! I don't know how I missed this video, but so glad I saw it! I have been slowly working on my small intuitive pieces and, just as I was about to do the sky with the wedge and all, now I see that I could and SHOULD go back and put more layers of paint and collage on them! Yay! Glad I have a chance to play some more with them! 😄 REALLY enjoying this dynamic class! Thank you so much!!
I'm so glad I took the Landscape classes! And pleased I can access the lessons to go through it again! Thank you Marabeth. I put up a youtube video of some of the results from the class on my 'Ahh Feel Good ' Channel. I'd encourage others to take this class. You're a terrific instructor!
I'm struggling with adding collage that then distorts the paper underneath when it dries, and try as I might, I can't get rid of the wrinkles in the bottom paper, but the collage piece lies flat. What am I getting wrong? This happens whether I use gesso or not, it doesn't seem to make any difference. I've tried re-wetting the entire piece and then letting it dry flat, under weight and even that doesn't work.
It might help to let dry between the layers, and also when I apply thicker collage pieces that have the tendency to wrinkle, I smooth over them with my finger and return to them every few minutes to do it again as it dries and adheres to the surface. I’ve also made friends with bubbles and wrinkles and now even purposely use them in my work to convey what I want. It’s hard to answer your question in a very helpful way since I can’t see exactly what you’re talking about. If you are enrolled in one of my classes, feel free to email me with pictures
Can pieces of fabric be used? I acquired a bin of beautiful and unusual scarves that my grand daughters play with that I’ll never wear. I’m a watercolor artist but anxious to try your process.
I am about to embark on the intuitive landscape painting course and cant get hold of the Golden glazing mixture which you use. My glue for decoupage leaves the painting and papers much too wet and the whole thing buckles and I have to wait a day before everything dries. So I see this glaze is quick drying and very important for good results. I can get hold of marabu collage glue here in Germany. Will that be alright?
I’ve never tried the Marabu, and honestly I’ve never been a big fan of anything in the ‘glue’ category. But you may love it-it really is personal preference. Can you get Golden or Liquitex Matte Medium by chance? That might be the closest thing to the glazing medium
I know a little color theory, but a lot of it comes from just making lots of paintings and trying things. Nothing teaches like just doing it. Learning some color theory really gives you that context and knowledge, and then just painting and trying things gives you the experience so that eventually, you have an spontaneous impulse to put a pop of color somewhere.
Not at all-some people like to just to feel more comfortable using collage, but if you’d like to dive right in, I teach you how to make your own papers in this class. You’ll do just fine 😊

I relate-I don’t know that I will ever easily relinquish control, but it certainly does get easier to do so with practice 😊

Glad you enjoyed it! And I totally agree-I absolutely love watching them just begin to emerge and organize. It’s such a fun process!

Thank you Maggie-it really is a fun process! If you feel like you get stuck trying to paint looser and less representational, then I know you’d like the course a lot.
Beautiful!! Thank you for a very pleasant video to watch and hear. What product did you use to glue? Just regular glue?
I use Golden Satin Glazing Liquid-it works great to thin paints as well as adhere collage paper.
Thank you

I know people do use fabric, although I have never personally tried it. I’m sure someone has a video here on RUclips! That sounds like a great idea…
Wow! 😍😍😍
Thanks for watching 😊
What is the name of the app you used to view your art on the wall? It would be very handy to view work from afar in my very small studio!
There are a number of them, but the one I currently use is called Smartist App

Love this. But how does one know where to pop the color? Does one need to know color theory first? ❤
