    1. The main issue is bird droppings, not the birds themselves.
    2. Large populations of the same bird species can cause issues.
    3. Reporting bird-related issues is frustratingly difficult (One Service).
    4. I tried to report pigeon feeding, but NParks asked me for excessive detail (the timing, how often, type of feed etc). It felt like I was working for NParks.

This is a very well-made documentary that provides perspectives from different stakeholders / experts in a balanced & succinct manner. Personally I am a huge fan of pigeons as they are fat & intelligent (kudos to CNA mentioning this at the beginning!), but I'm against feeding them as it's not healthy or sustainable for the pigeons. The culling of pigeons is inhumane, may affect other species, and has been shown to be ineffective in population management (e.g. in Basel, Switzerland) - especially as the root cause of food supply is difficult to adequately address. I am fairly certain that the culling measures suggested by the government in Jun 2024 will fail. Hence, would definitely be interested if CNA does a follow-up in 2025/6 on why the government is / isn't exploring alternative measures (e.g. the oral contraceptives suggested by ACRES with an automated bird feeder; or "supervised pigeon houses" where dovecotes are specially built for the pigeons, enabling humans to regulate their distribution & food supply, and easily replace their eggs with fake ones - saw this implemented in Tübingen, Germany and thought it was a great & eco-friendly idea).

Ask yourself, why 20 years ago there was no such issue? I hardly see any pigeons in the neighborhood back then. And there were very few birds. There was still lots of forested area in Singapore back then, the natural habitats for birds.
Now with deforestation and much fewer forested area in Singapore, birds are forced to find homes in buildings not that they want to.

Tampines has lesser pigeons now, BUT the number of crows grew in numbers. On a tree along Tampines St 83, it houses 30 if not 40 over crows in it. It's like a scene from Resident Evil with crows flying around. Now that the harmful pigeon poops are gone, crows which is almost at the top of the food chain are getting high in population and they post a threat to humans. Especially when toddlers are near. I'm always worried when my daughter gets too near to a crow afraid that it might attack. And we know crows can grow quite big in size. These pigeons has more rights than us Singaporean. The reason NEA turn a blind eye to this is because they are afraid of the animal activists. It will garnered international backlash if they start culling the pigeons. They like to use " monitoring " in fact it means " ignore " in that context. I remember there was a case where a resident was so disturbed by the pigeon problem he report to the authority many times, all came back with " we are still monitoring " replies. So he set up traps to deter the pigeons, he was fine with $5000 for animal cruelty.

i think the irony is the gov's "soft authoritarian" style compared to the policies implemented to solve problems, like realistically public education is useless without enforcement. All the agencies only know how to stay in the office but when called to go on the ground all the do is a quick inspection to run the SOP, nothing tangible is being done on the ground. So practically all the feedback platforms (app, meet the people etc) are inefffective bc the furthest action there will be is informing another agency, then the agency run its SOP and problem is unsolved. It's just an endless loop and gov agencies cant be bothered to fix things. Maybe Talking point can delve into this lack of accountability by gov agencies (tho a little idealistic lol), pretty sure this isnt the first video about societal problems persisting because of a lack of enforcement by relevant gov agencies.

Even then, most warning signs placed in the open are too small to be seen, unless you take the trouble to walk closer to read them. I reported a few times to town council and nea. Nea replied that at the time of feeding, they come down to check but did not see any feeding. Very strange as on the day they said they come to check, i noticed feeding. So i dont whether nea came to check or went to the wrong place, wrong time??? It has been years since and feeding is still going on, and their poop is on the ground.

All these feeders think that they are doing good deeds. But they clearly dk what the side effects are. More education is needed not just fining them.

They are pets left alone to die and not pets. If you would know anything about pigeons you would know that they breed despite getting fed and that they only can be controlled by feeding, housing and replacement of their eggs. Maybe you just hate animals, or you're stupid idk
