I was in depression and suicidal. If not for the support of my good friends and regained faith , I would be dead. Can going to jail compensate for the pain and suffering we are still experiencing now? No. To the scammers that harmed my family and all scammers out there. His words were more colorful than the rainbow. I was almost killed when he strangled me with a belt , as I started learning to fight back to protect my mum and 5 other younger siblings. He set a bad example and I vowed I wld grow up well, nevertheless. Today I have raised a nice family, my kids have gone to uni. My house is fully paid and I can retire comfortably. Yet , he is still alive. To me , he doesn't matter since when I was a teen. But I still give him allowance and helped in his medical fees even tho I cant bring myself to call him " father ". Jerald is a narcissistic sociopath/psychopath. He is a parasite and always will be, counseling will not change that. Society won't teach him anything, he'll simply adjust his tactics. The whole story about his mother and grandmother are rife with exaggerations and crocodile tears, he only cared about what they could do for him, not the other way around. Pity plays are a verrry common go-to tactic for every narcissist when they get caught: playing the victim, claiming hardships, faking remorse, etc., etc. None of it is real, it's just another scam, and that scam continues to steal from his existing victims by sucking sympathy for their very real suffering away from them in both the courts and the general public. People, don't ever, ever be party to that; you not only help the narcissist injure their victims further, you help them prey on more future victims. So maddening and heartbreaking for all of those people he defrauded and hurt, they deserve far better justice than that measly sentence. They seem like such good, kind people..

On another level, it serves as a cautionary tale for people whose moral compass is malleable and may be tempted into scamming others. While there may be less victims with a hasty arrest, the integrity of the investigative process should not be compromised, lest the criminal be alerted and dispose of evidence. Honestly, it is so so difficult to empathise with him and at the end of the day, he is still so selfish and only thinking for himself -- there's no mention of feeling guilty or sorry for the victims. He has caused so much harm to his victims and it is so shameful and 68 months is indeed too light a sentence. In order to repay debts from hospital bills, there could have been other alternatives instead of scamming people.

I was physically and mentally abused during childhood by my father who divorced my mother when I was five. How he was given custody I will never know. However, in all my years I have never scammed or cheated anyone. To me, using the trauma of childhood abuse as an excuse for committing crime is the easy way out of taking responsibility for one's actions.

This documentary is so overwhelming. Totally in disbelief that someone can go to the extent to scam others. The scammer really had a well thought out plan that made his victims suffered so much. After 'hearing' his part of the story, it is still difficult to sympathise with him. Probably due to his emotional trauma in childhood, that was not the way to gain respect and for people to treat him well. I would say there is a lack of social support when he is in distress, be it from his family, his school, and the society. If he was counselled at the initial stage, he may turn out differently.
Problem was, he didn’t display any red flags at that time. His friend said he was quiet, boy that don’t give problems in class. So basically he was outside of the radar. How to counsel or listen la 😭

Although I applaud the police for finally serving justice for the victims, they took way too long (4 years). I had a case once and the police dragged it for 7 months. During the 7 months, i was assigned to an IO and she was not doing anything despite me emailing her many times to check the status. After a good 3 months, she told me that my case will be handled by someone. Left a super bad impression.
I nvr understood them, Like yes if we do lodge a report the first thing they would have to do is investigate, but why its kinda annoying how long they take to investigate when we provide all the evidence including face pics, phone number, bank acc number , what happened
I was a supervisor of a particular franchise which was broken into the following month I left the job. My ex colleague told me what happened and being one of the keyholders I was expecting to be called in. It took the police 1 year to call me in for interview, by that time I already forgotten certain details they were asking (where we place the earnings and accounts etc) I was astonished by their absurdity and efficiency level. There was another theft in another branch which was reported by me and the culprit was caught but I was never updated. After 3 years I received a letter signed by a specific IO informing me out of the blue that culprit has been sentenced and they thank me for helping with their investigations. Curious, I called the IO who signed the letter and asked him which case he was referring to. He had no idea what I was talking about. What do u mean your physical signatures is on it don’t u read what u signed on? I gave him the case number and he still remained very helpless (hello this is the computer age) . After a couple of weeks he finally found out which case he was writing amour . To this day I was amused but at the same time I felt really insecure about the lack of efficiency and common sense local police operates by, despite our low crime rate.

They say the Singapore justice system is strict but I feel it failed to adequately punish and rehabilitate Jerald and allow Jerald to make reparations for the harm he caused. Jerald's statements in this video prove that all he has is self pity and he does not seem to have any empathy with his victims. One of his victims was his own mother who had to suffer the indignity of knowing in her final days that her son was a criminal and she had to visit him in jail. Jerald's jail time may have been adequate but he was made to pay a fine of $1800 which is completely out of proportion to the funds he stole.

Across 4 years, he scammed only $110,000 USD? If he actually worked, he could end up saving nearly that amount (or more) across those 4 years, and would have also saved himself the trouble, jail time, and charges. He also missed his mum's funeral and lost everything. All for just $110k.
Yes 4 years of hard work and another 5 years of not being in jail you could earn and saved more. Sometimes when I see criminals put so much effort in stealing if only they could use the same effort legally.

Despite scamming over $100,000 from various people including his friends, he still lives in an almost dilapidated environment with rubbish sprawl all over the house. Even though he was mentioned as one having not many friends, he still managed to gain trust from people whom were mere acquaintances at the start. This isn’t easy and takes skills to persuade and convince people. I believe if Jerald put his communication skills set to good use, he would have been a more successful person.
He willfully cheated innocent victims, premediated and ruined their lives. There is no rehabilitation for someone who seems to be a serial scammer. I have no remorse for a sociopath and skilled manipulator like him, he deserves no pity when he shed his crocodile tears. In case anyone needs it, you can request to suspend a phone line contract. It won’t be considered as termination. There will be limitations. E.g. SingTel will let you suspend up to 12 months, at $10.70 per month. However this is better than paying full fee every month for a service you don’t want anymore.
This is absolutely crazy, wild thing is he was still sentimental, he could’ve ran when he had the money from Sam, moved to a cheaper country and actually started businesses there, made money and disappeared completely but he still cared enough about his family not to disappear. Said that he is being con etc and claiming that he have 3 condominiums at orchard and instructed fellow inmate to do things for him in return for money when he released from prison!!!

That is a scene that could have been me. I see myself in that scene. It could have been another typical Singaporean too. Mistake, don't take short cuts in life. Cheating is a fast way and often a temporary way. BUT some cheaters do benefit from cheating and still living well being a scammer. This is a medium level scamming which exposes the failure of local companies fraud detection protocols. It becomes serial because the authorities did not stop him fast enough. A scammer is rewarded with getting away doing a crime, so he/she tends to commit another scam and it becomes routine. I have a relative who had also taken the path to cheat own family members' trust. These days, there are big time scammers around. The police are unable to catch them. They can only catch small local petty thieves. I believe there are scammers who operates on International level. Back to his case, so he tried to cover his tracks with false police reports and he had some friendly help. He is sentenced to 67 months in jail, and that equals to 5.5 years. He real home was a mess. I looked at my room and it was a mess too but liveable. His family should be covered by the social safety net of Singapore but such cases still is seen. Singapore is becoming a more complicated place. Scammers exist too in the past. But now the situations are constantly changing and becoming more complicated by Capitalism. You can make money putting trust into financial products and MLMs which border on trickery and hardselling, but in China, the bank suddenly don't recognize the deposits. Anything can happen. Foreigners are many making money by the tons. The urge to get rich quick is there. Lastly, sympathize with the lady on her first job. Her family , father helped her out of a bad situation.

SG police has all the privileges and rights to check on personal identification including your ancestry and relatives if you have deemed to be suspected of committing any offence. That’s their duty and responsibility.

He is a confident conman with very creative, criminal mind. If he used his talents and skills in legitimate business, he could have gone far. But he chose the other way. What I fail to understand; is the fact that all those people, the "victims" were taking cars, phones on themselves, not on the company cards, checks, Jerald's accounts? I had a better experience with SPF. I was scammed in Shoppee of a phone $300 that never came. Made an online police report and I thought that was it. Was very surprised when a polite Police man from AMK station called me that the scammer had been found and they recovered my money. It was 1 year and I had almost forgotten. They asked me how I would like to collect and when I went to AMK station, it was noted my name was spelled wrongly. They are aged the Cashier Order to be delivered to my home personally by a nice Police man. It is a very pleasant and trustworthy gesture. I have Thanks. 🙏

I think the most giving clue is the title of the video "TINDER" swindler. The documentary really tries its best to protect the dignity of the people who were swindled in a way they don't talk too much about the intimacies the convict had with them but the trickery. As pitiful as Jerald's plight, he got so blindsided and went the wrong route of solving his problems. I f-ing hate scammers, so I don't pity him a single bit. He's an adult, so I won't give leniency to the way I think of him.

Singapore justice system is a joke! scammer will usually charged with imprisonment and usually after they release, high chance they will re-offend again with similar case. They should have a system whereby the scammer need to pay back every single cent to the victim

Over the years we have seen so many white collar cheaters who merely need to stay in jail and enjoy freedom after their term. I would suggest they also be caned for what they have done! I agree that the police in sg could be a little bit inefficient, not only due to "they do not want to wrongly accuse an innocent people", but they could spend too much time on an innocent people and let the real criminal running freely outside. Why do they need to re-investigate for 4 month just because of something the suspect say? Do they not really sure about the case during the first round of investigation? Jerald is a narcissistic sociopath/psychopath. He is a parasite and always will be, counseling will not change that. Society won't teach him anything, he'll simply adjust his tactics. The whole story about his mother and grandmother are rife with exaggerations and crocodile tears, he only cared about what they could do for him, not the other way around.
Pity plays are a verrry common go-to tactic for every narcissist when they get caught: playing the victim, claiming hardships, faking remorse, etc., etc. None of it is real, it's just another scam, and that scam continues to steal from his existing victims by sucking sympathy for their very real suffering away from them in both the courts and the general public. People, don't ever, ever be party to that; you not only help the narcissist injure their victims further, you help them prey on more future victims.
So maddening and heartbreaking for all of those people he defrauded and hurt, they deserve far better justice than that measly sentence. They seem like such good, kind people..

Truly a excellent documentary. It can be watched and understood on so many levels. On one level, it serves as a cautionary tale for us common people that could be potentially be scammed.
On another level, it serves as a cautionary tale for people whose moral compass is malleable and may be tempted into scamming others. The description of the apartment during raid and the unfortunate passing of the mother points to the fact how guilt and shame destroys oneself - a retribution (bao yin) - consumes our soul, our mind, and our body.

Honestly, it is so so difficult to empathise with him and at the end of the day, he is still so selfish and only thinking for himself -- there's no mention of feeling guilty or sorry for the victims. He has caused so much harm to his victims and it is so shameful and 68 months is indeed too light a sentence. In order to repay debts from hospital bills, there could have been other alternatives instead of scamming people.

I'm shocked, a sentence of 4 years is way too light. As a judge I would have sentence him to at least 10 years in jail.

I was physically and mentally abused during childhood by my father who divorced my mother when I was five. How he was given custody I will never know. However, in all my years I have never scammed or cheated anyone. To me, using the trauma of childhood abuse as an excuse for committing crime is the easy way out of taking responsibility for one's actions.

This documentary is so overwhelming. Totally in disbelief that someone can go to the extent to scam others. The scammer really had a well thought out plan that made his victims suffered so much. After 'hearing' his part of the story, it is still difficult to sympathise with him. Probably due to his emotional trauma in childhood, that was not the way to gain respect and for people to treat him well. I would say there is a lack of social support when he is in distress, be it from his family, his school, and the society. If he was counselled at the initial stage, he may turn out differently.

Although I applaud the police for finally serving justice for the victims, they took way too long (4 years). I had a case once and the police dragged it for 7 months. During the 7 months, i was assigned to an IO and she was not doing anything despite me emailing her many times to check the status. After a good 3 months, she told me that my case will be handled by someone. Left a super bad impression.

I was a supervisor of a particular franchise which was broken into the following month I left the job. My ex colleague told me what happened and being one of the keyholders I was expecting to be called in. It took the police 1 year to call me in for interview, by that time I already forgotten certain details they were asking (where we place the earnings and accounts etc) I was astonished by their absurdity and efficiency level. There was another theft in another branch which was reported by me and the culprit was caught but I was never updated. After 3 years I received a letter signed by a specific IO informing me out of the blue that culprit has been sentenced and they thank me for helping with their investigations. Curious, I called the IO who signed the letter and asked him which case he was referring to. He had no idea what I was talking about. What do u mean your physical signatures is on it don’t u read what u signed on? I gave him the case number and he still remained very helpless (hello this is the computer age) . After a couple of weeks he finally found out which case he was writing amour . To this day I was amused but at the same time I felt really insecure about the lack of efficiency and common sense local police operates by, despite our low crime rate.
And during that 4 years he was scamming more victims and fresh police reports flowed in on the same guy

They say the Singapore justice system is strict but I feel it failed to adequately punish and rehabilitate Jerald and allow Jerald to make reparations for the harm he caused. Jerald's statements in this video prove that all he has is self pity and he does not seem to have any empathy with his victims. One of his victims was his own mother who had to suffer the indignity of knowing in her final days that her son was a criminal and she had to visit him in jail.
Jerald's jail time may have been adequate but he was made to pay a fine of $1800 which is completely out of proportion to the funds he stole.

Across 4 years, he scammed only $110,000 USD? If he actually worked, he could end up saving nearly that amount (or more) across those 4 years, and would have also saved himself the trouble, jail time, and charges. He also missed his mum's funeral and lost everything. All for just $110k.

He deserved every bit of shitty things life throws at him. I was a victim of a scam, I know how sucks it is to be cheated of your life’s savings that you worked so hard for.
Despite scamming over $100,000 from various people including his friends, he still lives in an almost dilapidated environment with rubbish sprawl all over the house. Even though he was mentioned as one having not many friends, he still managed to gain trust from people whom were mere acquaintances at the start. This isn’t easy and takes skills to persuade and convince people. I believe if Jerald put his communication skills set to good use, he would have been a more successful person.
He willfully cheated innocent victims, premediated and ruined their lives. There is no rehabilitation for someone who seems to be a serial scammer. I have no remorse for a sociopath and skilled manipulator like him, he deserves no pity when he shed his crocodile tears. My only sympathy goes out to the victims and that he wasn't locked away for longer for the slew of crimes he committed.
In case anyone needs it, you can request to suspend a phone line contract. It won’t be considered as termination. There will be limitations. E.g. SingTel will let you suspend up to 12 months, at $10.70 per month. However this is better than paying full fee every month for a service you don’t want anymore.
This is absolutely crazy, wild thing is he was still sentimental, he could’ve ran when he had the money from Sam, moved to a cheaper country and actually started businesses there, made money and disappeared completely but he still cared enough about his family not to disappear. Said that he is being con etc and claiming that he have 3 condominiums at orchard and instructed fellow inmate to do things for him in return for money when he released from prison!!!

Tragedy in a number of ways. In the later part of the vid, we saw him accompanying his mom back after attending medical appointment. He was arrested at the lift lobby. That is a scene that could have been me. I see myself in that scene. It could have been another typical Singaporean too. Mistake, don't take short cuts in life. Cheating is a fast way and often a temporary way. BUT some cheaters do benefit from cheating and still living well being a scammer. This is a medium level scamming which exposes the failure of local companies fraud detection protocols. It becomes serial because the authorities did not stop him fast enough. A scammer is rewarded with getting away doing a crime, so he/she tends to commit another scam and it becomes routine. I have a relative who had also taken the path to cheat own family members' trust. These days, there are big time scammers around. The police are unable to catch them. They can only catch small local petty thieves. I believe there are scammers who operates on International level. Back to his case, so he tried to cover his tracks with false police reports and he had some friendly help. He is sentenced to 67 months in jail, and that equals to 5.5 years. He real home was a mess. I looked at my room and it was a mess too but liveable. His family should be covered by the social safety net of Singapore but such cases still is seen. Singapore is becoming a more complicated place. Scammers exist too in the past. But now the situations are constantly changing and becoming more complicated by Capitalism. You can make money putting trust into financial products and MLMs which border on trickery and hardselling, but in China, the bank suddenly don't recognize the deposits. Anything can happen. Foreigners are many making money by the tons. The urge to get rich quick is there. Lastly, sympathize with the lady on her first job. Her family , father helped her out of a bad situation.

SG police has all the privileges and rights to check on personal identification including your ancestry and relatives if you have deemed to be suspected of committing any offence. That’s their duty and responsibility.

How would they even be accountable for those goods afterwards if the items were supposed to be bought or leased for the company? He actually got off very lightly, he did not even have to pay back the money he stole. I had a better experience with SPF. I was scammed in Shoppee of a phone $300 that never came. Made an online police report and I thought that was it. Was very surprised when a polite Police man from AMK station called me that the scammer had been found and they recovered my money. It was 1 year and I had almost forgotten. They asked me how I would like to collect and when I went to AMK station, it was noted my name was spelled wrongly. They are aged the Cashier Order to be delivered to my home personally by a nice Police man. It is a very pleasant and trustworthy gesture. I have Thanks. 🙏

I think the most giving clue is the title of the video "TINDER" swindler. The documentary really tries its best to protect the dignity of the people who were swindled in a way they don't talk too much about the intimacies the convict had with them but the trickery. As pitiful as Jerald's plight, he got so blindsided and went the wrong route of solving his problems. I f-ing hate scammers, so I don't pity him a single bit. He's an adult, so I won't give leniency to the way I think of him.

Singapore justice system is a joke! scammer will usually charged with imprisonment and usually after they release, high chance they will re-offend again with similar case. They should have a system whereby the scammer need to pay back every single cent to the victim

Over the years we have seen so many white collar cheaters who merely need to stay in jail and enjoy freedom after their term. I would suggest they also be caned for what they have done! I agree that the police in sg could be a little bit inefficient, not only due to "they do not want to wrongly accuse an innocent people", but they could spend too much time on an innocent people and let the real criminal running freely outside. The man who scammed me is highly educated, his mother is a retired teacher and his brother was a scholar and works in civil service.

This are the modus operandi of scammers. Yet humans never learn from past history...the hunger for thus temptations are much alive today. The answer is when we can quickly educate and reset thus negative mindset?

Scammers should be made to earn and return all amount with interest to victims. What does imprisonment do for victims? Nothing!
He shows Sam the condo? How did he get keys to condo when every option to purchase cheque bounced?.No convayence lawyer was engaged.All property transactions need lawyer before you even get the keys.
Despite the poverty/difficult circumstances in life, why do crime and bring more misery upon others and self. In the end, he lost everything and even more. Nothing is ever an excuse for crime.
He shouldn't live up to his name. He led a LOWly life in his adult years. Now he has to pay the price.
