In 1983 at Royal Birkdale on the 1st day of the British open, US golfer and 1981 winner Bill Rogers got an albertros and I was working as a scoreboard operator and lucky enough to have witnessed it.
That "fucking stupid guy" makes about 200x more than you make, and consistently make atmosphere calculations based on feeling. You try doing a nearly impossible feat and see if you have the concentration to give someone a high-five. I'd be hype as hell.
I notice many of these shots were made with a 4-iron. And I draw the conclusion that me not having that club in my bag is the only reason that I've never made an eagle.
I'm impressed you can tell the club just by looking lol. How do you know it isn't a 5 or a 3 iron? Is it from observing the shape of the club directly, or by looking at how much loft the ball gets?
Witnessed my brother’s double eagle back in September, 2017. I was actually taking a leak under a pine tree when he struck the ball and I turned around towards the hole just as the ball was approaching the green. He was ~235 yards out in the rough and hit a 5-wood over a pond and it drilled the stick. Couldn’t see the ball drop into the cup from our vantage point, but we had heard the sound of the ball striking what we believed was the pin. I figured the ball had likely ricocheted off of the pin into the woods behind the green, or that it would be somewhere in the surrounding rough. When we drove up to the hole, I was looking around and could not see a ball anywhere. I stood on the front of the green as my brother pulled the cart around to the back of the green. I SO wanted to look in the cup to see if the ball was in there, but knew I had to let him check. We were both giddy at the possibility of the ball being in the hole. He slowly approached the hole, stopped, and then leaned forward and peered into the cup. Then he suddenly grabbed the pin and yanked it and the ball out of the hole while screaming “It’s in the hole!” We must have high-fived and hugged each other a million times that day. It was easily the greatest golf experience I’ll ever have and the greatest shot I’ll ever see. So now, just about every time we play a par 5, when he’s hitting his second shot, I can’t help but think, “He’s actually got a legitimate chance for double eagle here... I mean...I’ve already seen him do it once!”
No such thing in golf as a par one ! And if there was, the least you could go down is one, so that would be par ! You misspelt carp, it should be "crap" 🙄
@@keithssavidge5864 First of all the intent is humor. Second, I didn't state I made par. I said it was a triple bogey on a par 1 which would be a four. Who cares what paring a 1 par is. Pretty much the only sport where your competitors get as much of a kick out of a great piece of play as you do individually. That's why golf is such a great sport imho.
Albatross is such a badass name for it, I've known of this term for a long time, not sure if I've ever seen video of it. Anybody who calls it a "double eagle" is a loserface.
I love watching these because they show just what a huge part plain old luck plays in this game...I've been hacking away at this game for over 30 years and I still stink... but it is fun to keep trying!!!
Ever noticed how these guys have no problem hitting a 4-1/4” hole from hundreds of yards out but can’t land a square high-five from hundreds of millimeters?
That shot by Jiminez was the first time I'd ever heard of him. He did this in round 3 I believe, and he very nearly did the exact same thing on the final day, now that would have been something. Amazing to think there are two shots on that hole, especially considering how difficult both of those pins are.
Hole 15 Takapuna golf course n.z. in the year 2000. I was 21 and didn't get to see it drop. We looked everywhere and then BOOM!!! Albatross baby!!! Good times compared to the tyranny we're all facing now
@@arjanpetersen Yes really. Your point is kind of irrelevant. If the pros are reaching them in 2 routinely then they are not playing par 5's. They are playing par 4's.

Can someone please explain to me what an albatross is in golf? I'm not really up in the sport to be honest I'm not sure on how the scoring system works 👍
A par is the average amount of shots most golfers need. An albatross is 3 below this, an eagle 2 below this and a birdie 1 below this. A (double) bogey is 1/2 over a paar.
Man I love Golf!..................................................................................................................................................sometimes.
Why the terrible music? Commentary is all that’s needed. I like the way the graphic of the player’s name so often covered the ball & its connection with the club, ie the best bit of watching a good swing.
Ive been playing gold in my cp. xD Is this correct. Albatross>double eagle>eagle>birdie>par>bogey>double bogey>+3>+4 Is this right? I have question. I got confuse in double eagle and eagle. How to get that?
What I love about golf is opponents celebrating and being genuinely happy for the other player
The only other sport Ive seen that happen is probably pole vault.
My thoughts exactly it why i love golf people get happy for their opponent even though it could win them the day or tournament.
byron nelson has left the chat
I'll never get over at how well the cameramen follow the ball.
Yea they should get awards too ridiculous
Love how fellow pros and competitors gather round and give their congratulations.

Awesome story
Its known as The Open
lol love how the last guy can make that shot then misses the high-5 twice
lol! no consistency
rookie move!...look at the elbow and you will never miss a high 5 ever

I tend to avoid hitting 3 wood on par 5’s, but I do pull out the old 3 and 4 iron a lot on them. Very useful clubs.

Eagle... 3 on a par 5... or 2 on a par 4 or a 1 on a par 3.
Albatross... 2 on a par 5 or 1 on a par 4.

I'm looking for videotaped, "CONDOR" golf holes scored.

Except it's an albatross. No such thing as a double eagle

Jimenez albatross is amazing!!
Yep - the 17th at Valderrama was no joke in the 1990s
There’s more awkward high fives in this video than albatrosses. Love it
The game has changed so much lately. In the stone age an albatross wasnt made with a mid iron but usually a fairway wood.
I was waiting for a 6 foot long wings to casually fly by and gulp the golf balls but I guess that's not the albatross they are talking about...
Me too....CLICKBAIT!!
That's all right, bud. The Americans keep waiting for a deuce of eagles on the PGA Channel, for some reason.
Yes.... this made me sad
Poor joke.
Every body knows what albatross is in golf.
Just envisioned the video where they rank albatrosses lol
I did this twice
I mean, is my second time watching
Got any top ten Condors or even 1?
John Hammond could get you 1
Need to be lucky with bounces off the right objects. Bear in mind, we're not talking about Pangya or Hot Shots Golf.

Even better is the condor, an ace on a par5
It's not even technically a double eagle, which would imply that it's 2x an eagle or -4.
True. It is so great and rare it deserve a different name and not just adding double.
Hmmm, only american people use double eagle term, so this is nonsense

Yes, of course everything's debatable, but a rear feat in these kinda clips to actually place them in such a good order.

How do you rank these? All equally incredible.
These are really the best shots out there. Better than hole in one's

I've started watching golf because Indian Golfer Aditi Ashok is in medal race in tokyo 2020. 4th round 4 hole to go. She's at 3rd rn.🇮🇳
I bet this was recommended because I just watched Pink Floyd's Echos, which contains in its lyrics"albatross."
Or Iron Maiden's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner"

there is something wrong when guys can routinely hit par 5's with an iron.
U gotta have the wind blowing hard enough in the right way
Most pros hit 310ydrivers & 250y 2iron easy so an average par 5 can be reached in 2 easily.
Not really. Just excellent skill and power. No amateur can do it

It's always been called an albatross. The Americans call it a double eagle.

Unless the second shot requires clearing a ton of bunkers and/or water, there is no risk in letting it rip. Think the final hole from "Tin Cup"
