  • Even with a great diet and exercise, abs are sometimes not as toned as we want them to be. The key, after the diet of course, is getting the transverse abdominus muscles to work and to work the right way.
    This video shows you have to properly activate these muscles and how to keep them working as you exercises and move.

    I dont know how I found your vids but glad I did! I have several children and suffer from diastasis recti. When Im in a fitness class I skip all the crunches because it makes my stomach worse and mention this to the instructor they dont know what Im talking about. You are one of the very few people Ive seen to talk about working the transverse abdominal muscles. As soon as I saw the word "transverse" i subscribed 🙂. Thank you for sound advice!!

    1- How many repetitions are you suggesting as a starting point? 2- Do you pull the belly in for as long as you can hold off breathing or for x amount of seconds? 3-Thank you

    • @drkristieennis
      @drkristieennis  2 года назад +1

      I typically have people start with 10-15 reps. You do want to make sure you can breath while engaging these muscles so the goal is not to hold the breath.

    This was very informative. I found when I started to take your advice that my abdominal exercises became easier, probably because I was engaging those muscles you were talking about. I could do a lot more crunches when I pulled my belly in then I could the way I was doing them before.

      The fact that the diaphragm has to be empty of breath/ air when you contract / work the ,”rectus abdominus “ and other underlying support muscles , is the crucial fact .
      In yoga too we have exercises like that in which we expel the breath totally even slightly forcibly and then while the aur is out , we have to contract the muscles , or ,””churn “ it
      For basically cleaning the insides but that improves the tone of the whole of underlying muscle connection. In yoga or other exercises no body says this is fir flat stomach .
      But
      It is very good to know that contracting or working out these core stomach supporting muscles can increase the possibility of a flat stomach . thank you for pointing out that this is what make a the work out mire effective.

    Little wonder that in baseball, the home run hitter has the perfect form or say the best powerlifter also has impeccable form. When it comes to doing any exercise to get the desired results, it's important to pay attention to all the details that go into making the correct form. If you cheat at one (knowingly or unknowingly) it all falls apart. It's better to do 1 correct repetition that 10 poor ones. I think you've hit it right on the spot with this tutorial. Thanks and keep up the good work. ✌🏼️👊🏼

    I've always worked out and enjoyed flat abs. A year ago I had a horrific accident, falling down a flight of stairs backwards and broke my back.....fractured the T11 and burst the T12 vertebrae. Can no longer do crunches. Currently, not in the shape I'm used to, so looking forward to doing your abs workout, given that there is no stress on spine. I have to be careful. Had 24 sessions PT, and doing really well. Can walk 6-10 miles with ease; sitting for a length of time causes achiness, no inhibiting pain, but I know the back isn't what it used to be. So thanks. Also been plant based since 2006, and my physician said if I weren't eating that way and working out, I would have had a year recovery.

    Great tip and one to be part of every day movement. Very easy and once engaged in everything you do as second nature, absolutely useful in flattening that stomach. LOL, next the padding... your right, you are what you eat. Thank you my dear for bringing back some common sense to make actions efficient!

    This seems helpful but the part that I don't understand is what you mean by pulling in the belly muscles. Could you please clarify?

      Look straight up, hold the face right up when you do abs. This will reduce your neck pain.

    Dr I have sciatica since 2018. Is it ok to do this exercise with my sciatica nerve pain? I have slim body with hip and belly fat. I want to reduce it. Does this exercise help it? Thank you very much. Love from Srilanka 🇱🇰

      I certainly have had patients with sciatica some of these but everyone is different so it’s always good to check with your doctor first.
