What a game. Quick summary / message down below (beware of potential video spoilers!)

I had no idea what to expect and even though many people made me feel like I should have high expectations, what I actually got still managed to blow me away. The whole game of Omori has been great but the finale was just amazing. Might very well be my favorite ending or even "moment" in *any* form of media ever. This alone felt like its own entire movie you would pay to watch. It was terrifying, shocking, emotional and yet also happy. Being able to share it with you made it so much more enjoyable, and all of the theories and support and memes have been a blast to see and experience. Thank you for sticking with me through this! I really truly appreciate it. That being said, i'm still crying -help-

A really interesting detail is that during the entire game, the buttons in combat say: "Fight!" and "Run..." Showing how Omori doesnt want to back down from any fights, but when you face something and Basil; the punctuations are switched, now they say: "Fight..." and "Run!" Showing you just how much you dont wanna do this.

That really shows the difference in mindsets between Omori and Sunny / Maxy. Omori loves to fight and kill things, and Sunny finds it difficult to bring himself to harm another being in real life.

I find it really interesting that the closet is completely invisible throughout the whole game. And if you inspect that wall it says "There is nothing here." Like, Sunny is so traumatized by the violin that he literally walls it off in his own mind.
For... some reason it comes back when you come home on the first day. You can't reach it though, spiders block it.
The violin is what made it so they couldn't just say they her knee gave out and she tumbled down the stairs. If that actually was the case there would be no way sunnys violin would just be chilling under her head.
That's what's called a psychological block, it's when the mind is overwhelmed or traumatized deeply and can't handle the truth. So, they wall off that information in their mind entirely. Felt like sharing this fact so people know a little bit more background.

Remember this also happens when Basil kills himself. When you enter the room, sunny immediately closes it and the door disappears, when you try to interact with it, it just says, "There is nothing here"

Here’s an explanation: The reveal wasn’t actually photos. It was Basil’s point of view. Also the reason Sunny was bleeding was because he was literally falling apart after seeing the truth because it was too much for him. Finally the Somethings are what scarred Sunny and Basil the most. Sunny’s was looking back and seeing his sister’s eye open staring back at what he had just done. Basil’s Something was Mari’s long, black, tangled hair at the bottom of the stairs spreading out over the violin like a web, which Basils seems to get trapped in at the end of the black space sequence.

On that note, just imagine how difficult that must have been for Sunny. To keep the truth hidden for years, and finally come clean about it... When people theorize how the others would react, they often seem to think that Sunny would just say it like it's nothing. But he even woke up crying, so... Yeah. I don't want to hear any more people saying that they'd be angry, or they'd never forgive Sunny. I believe in them.
Even if it may take some time for some of them... they will forgive.
@@Merg Absolutely! They'll understand how much Sunny and Basil have suffered too, and that they were so young they probably couldn't even comprehend everything that had happened. And Aubrey especially might understand how it feels to risk someone's life in a fit of anger, after that little lake incident...
@@mikaelious9550 theres a video series currently in development on yt, by the channel YareYareDaze who made a headcannon continuation of the game, and i feel how they portray the characters after the truth really works. Hero doesnt even think of SunnyMAXY no longer OMORI as a friend, because of what he did to Mari, they were a perfect couple and because of a single argument, it ended someones life.
@@heaventoast That's exactly where I disagree. Sure, he would be angry at first (naturally), but... Looking at Hero's dialogue when they were visiting Mari's grave, one of the worst things for him was feeling like it was HIS fault. He thought he should've seen her 'suicide' coming, that she was secretly feeling bad and he wasn't there for her enough. In that aspect, I think Hero would even feel some sort of relief, knowing that it wasn't him who was at fault after all.
@@mikaelious9550 i 100% agree, as the series has recently been made, and it takes place recently after the truth telling, he still is processing his feelings, and i think that the animator is currently seeing seeing what you said.
I don't know if you already seen any explaining vids or something, but I still want to note what actually happened with the argument, since you seemed a little confused about that.
Also as multiple people said, the photos were representing memories, they weren't actual pictures.
Sunny was frustrated and stressed because of the recital and in a fit of rage, he threw the violin down the stairs and broke it.
Mariand him argued at the top of the stairs and in the heat of the situation, Sunny pushed her and she ended up falling from the stairs and passing away.
Basil came to wish them good luck and saw the whole thing. Him and Sunny carried Mari to her bed, thinking she was just unconcious.
When it became clear to Basil that she will not be waking up, he made Sunny help him stage it as a suicide, because he feared Sunny's punishment and wanted to help him avoid it.
When they began to walk away, Sunny made the fatal mistake of taking one last look at Mari and saw her lifeless eye staring back at him, which later became the image of his trauma stalking him.
Basil didn't look, so his image of trauma was the body at the bottom of the stairs, which his child mind reduced to a bunch of hairs.

One minor correction: They both looked back. That's what Basil references in the dialogue before the fight. And that's why Basil can see Something behind Sunny. They both share the guilt.

@@hp640. many. Spoiler below although since the game is completed I don't think anyone would be spoiled.
There are many neutral endings. One is going to sleep instead of Saving Basil on the night of third day, after the truth segment. The other 2 are by going to your own house instead of Saving Basil. The end result of these 2 endings depends upon whether you pick up the steak Knife or not.
The hikkimori endings are similar to these 2 endings. But you'll know the difference when you see the both endings and think about them.
The bad ending is obtained by choosing to not continue when defeated by Omori in the Final battle.

An example would be when you collect a key, and jump into the hole in the ground and see a man cutting a tree with a shadow of a noose on it. The man keeps saying, "you're not my son" and "why won't this tree cut down". It's probably Sunny's father's reaction to Mari's death.

When I first saw the final duet I literally cried for 3 minutes straight and when I saw the third person dialogue I cried again. I don’t know why it just makes me feel weird hearing from sunny and his feelings
There was audible trembling whenever he sighed. I know to look for that sign because I tend to do it when I'm nervous or anxious.
I know it sounds like it would be too much at this point, and I definitely recommend taking a break from the game as a whole before you do this, but the Hikkikomori Route (saying no to Kel at the door) is totally worth it. You get an entire new chapter of Headspace, along with 2 new worlds and a total of 6 new bosses to enjoy, so I’d definitely recommend it if you feel up to it.
Also, I feel like I should also mention how much I’ve enjoyed your playthrough. Your commentary was excellent, and, all things considered, it was a pretty complete playthrough (about 50% of people miss the Orange Oasis entirely!)

Just to clarify, the photos taken by Basil during the truth reveal sequence aren't actually real photos, they're just a creative way to represent basil's memories and point of view during Mari's death, since one of Basil's main traits in the game is to take photos to maintain and look back on memories.
It could also be literal take on the term “Mental Photographs”!

You almost completed the “Universally Loved” achievement (one of the hardest ones) in your first blind play throughout, in which you have every flower gift possible in the hospital. That shows how you really was invested in the game, and that made enjoy your gameplay more than other content creators. Thank you very much.

Honestly, when I learned the "truth" I needed to take a break. It was not only heart breaking but also a f*cking mindf*ck for me. I love the switch from lovely, nice and wholesome to psychologically breaking a humans mind. This game deserves way better. It plays with you, break you, make your emotions go wild. Gameplay wise it's very nice but not toooooo difficult. But dude, Omori is not Omori without its music. The games music has like such a good Original Soundtrack, I love to compare it with UNDERTALE.
My opinion to this game is made. It's my 1. Favourite videogame.

Screw it. This is my favorite game of all time.
I just felt hollow
I did kind of start to suspect either Basil or Maxy himself had somehow killed Mari after awhile, but definitely not Maxy staging the suicide, making up the ghost story to convince Basil it wasn't him, or being the one who destroyed the photo album and manipulated Basil into taking the blame. Hardcore heavy stuff.

Something I find a cool detail that is overlooked; the black things are representing the guilt of the characters, e.g. Maxy's guilt looms over him. Knowing this, during Basil's fight, notice where the black thing is. It's almost as if it's eating Basil. Basil's guilt is LITERALLY eating him alive!
And Sunny’s stalks him. He turns away, tries to forget about it, but it’s always there. Just like Blackspace and the dream world, it comes back.
Sunny's trauma stalks and chases him, but basil's trauma surrounds and closes in on him.
Apparently there are a lot of fanfics that portray Hero as reacting violently towards Sunny once he learns “the truth”, but realistically I think he’d isolate himself for a while, and once he got his emotions sorted out, he’d comfort the poor boy.

That's what I think as well. Hero would probably take a lot of time to himself to think things over, but overall I'm sure he'd realize that even though what Sunny did wasn't right at all, he was certainly the one suffering the most from it. He'd come around eventually.

Oh, that must be my character, omori is probably his name. Makes sense.
The title screen is simultaniously telling you the truth and lying to you. Sure you are that character, and that's your name, but it doesn't stay that way. Sure he's likely depressed, but maybe its just an empy husk to greet you so you'll be unnerved enough to not look any further. The truth of omori's nature is right there on the title screen. The lightbulb is above his head but blacked out; he is repressing the incident. But someone mentioned the lightbulb outline is shaped like a noose, showing he cannot fully repress everything; the red hand pointing is also here. Innocent enough, until you realize this is a mannifestion of Sunny's gult and omori's power to carry sunny to a safer space when things get too triggering. Not so funny thing is the lightbulb could be interpreted as an A instead and the alternative title is O mari (i admit that's reaching).
Congratulations on finishing the game! Hahaha, this might be weird coming from me, but I want to say you did a great job. You completed almost all the side quests in both the Real World and Headspace, and you got the secret true ending in your first playthrough! This really shows how you're much more immersed in the game than most other RUclipsrs. Thank you for playing Omori, Merg. I hope you enjoyed it!

Because I remember reading something once (only once, so I don't know if I had been pranked) where the true true ending was actually that the person who fell down the stairs was Sunny, not Mari, and Sunny had been in a coma the whole time? but I feel like that may be wrong because I've only heard about it in that one place, and it may have been a joke >~
Although it may be interesting to think about if his friends will forgive him, the main point is Sunny is able to forgive himself. You can see from the truth sequence and blackspace that he absolutely hated himself, to the point of imagining himself mutilated (the fingers, the ears). But even if his friends don't forgive him, he was able to overcome the part inside him that became a demon. Even though Omori will not succumb, Sunny won't either. There's HOPE in the ending. Sunny can move on, despite his tragedy, despite how hard it gets, and despite his horrid mistake. Life gets better. You just have to make it there.
Although it's bittersweet, knowing this (good) ending exists is simply the biggest relief.

Anyway, what a game. Because of the first 2 or 3 episodes, i went ahead and got the game for myself in order to get the true experience. Thank you for showing and recommending this incredible game to us. Definitely a bit saddening to see this playthrough not generating as many views and traction as some of the other games that you post, this game definitely deserves a lot more attention.

Fun Fact: One of the reasons Sunny (Maxy in this case) backed away when Aubrey finished her monologue near the tree stump in the last episode was because he blacked out the photos alongside Basil. This is already hinted at in one of the first hand-drawn cutscenes in the game, as well as in the area you are transported to with the blacked out photos whilst in White Space after interacting with one of the holes left after Omori picks up one of the necessary letter keys (You can see this in Merg's playthrough in the "Searching For SECRETS in Omori" episode at 34:00).

I did think "omori is the ONLY game which might make merg cry on camera" But I didn't expect it to actually happen. I did cry too though. The lines during the omori fight really hit close to home for me (even though i didn't kill my sister) The Final Duet actually broke me though. 4 years ago when I first heard of this game I didn't think much of it other than "oh that looks cool" and I was very wrong. The 7+ year wait for this game was completely worth it. Big thanks to Omocats team and all of the Kickstarter backers. Its not Omorisunnymaxy anymore. Just sunnymaxy :)

Now that you’ve gone through the “true” route, do you think you’ll get any of the other endings? There’s lots of mini endings if you don’t save basil, and one if you give up during the omori fight.
There’s also an entire alternate route that happens if you ignore the door when Kel knocks, that has a few new dreamworld boss battles that are pretty fun (and hard…)
If he goes for these endings, its gonna be a ride to say the least

Honestly, I really love it when a game's story feels good at first, it gets procedually better as you go further, and at the end it goes all out and greatly surpasses all expectations. That made 999 one of my favorite games of all time, and now Omori gets to be called that too.

Did you notice how the thank you for playing screen is Sunny's favorite tree/where it happened?
You can see the pinwheel Aubrey stuck in as a sign of healing, and there are all the flowers and cactus present to represent each one of them. Mari's Lilly of the Valley is off over to the left a bit, while everyone else's are together in the bouquet and then there's the photo album underneath it.
To me, this represents that they were all able to heal and come together. There's no question in my mind that they forgave Sunny and Basil.

I agree with you completely, the final act of OMORI is one of the most beautiful and masterfully told moments in gaming (and in general) I’ve ever experienced. It moved me to tears playing through it and I felt that same emotion watching it again in your play through. Truly, such a masterpiece of a game.
I've watched the end of this game from 7 to 8 different people's perspectives now, and each person has a slightly different reaction to the ending. But everyone cries, on the outside, or on the inside. This game has this way of just putting you Sunny's place, and making you feel everything. And to be honest, every single time I watched it through someone else's perspective, I get the same exact emotions as I did the first time, and I end up crying. Every. Single. TIme. The emotions don't get any weaker either. Especially during the duet. I can't not cry at the duet.
This game is masterpiece from beginning to end, and in my opinion, one of the topmost crowning achievements gaming as a medium has ever produced and ever will produce. It wouldn't work as well in any other medium. My heartfelt thanks to Omocat for sticking through its rocky development.

Yeah, the truth really hits hard... Sunny ended up causing the death of his sister, who he loved so much, because of an argument when he broke his violin out of frustration because the constant practicing and trying to be perfect got to him. Its relatable, especially for someone as young as him to feel pressured into performing, and Mari was a perfectionist so she was hard on him, but she of course still loved her little brother. Mari got mad at him and tried to stop Sunny from running away from the problem, but Sunny was confused and stressed, and pushed her away in order to escape, but he ended up pushing her down the stairs... and she died...
He never meant to do it, I feel like that should be apparent, he didn't understand what happened at first. (The cut content of the photo descriptions comes from Sunnys perspective that explains his initial confusion, thinking she would be okay after a rest, before the grim reality set in.) Basil saw what happened, and new that Sunny didn't mean to do it. He rationalized it later as some other outside force at work.
Basil then suggested to Sunny he had a way to help him, to make things okay... Basil decided to stage Maris death as a... well, you know... In order to protect his best friend. He thought no one else would believe it was an accident and his best friend would be viewed as some kind of heartless killer... But his good intentions and misguided actions ended up causing things to be much, much worse. They saw Mari looking back at them and the sight forever scarred Sunny and Basil.
Sunny hates himself more than anyone, that is what Omori confronts him about once Sunny begins to accept the truth. Omori is the part of him that hates himself so much that he wishes he was dead. He can't forgive himself for what he did and views himself as a horrible monster (Which the demonic like reflection in the mirror represents). Mari in the dream world calls him by his real name, and I believe her spirit is trying to help Sunny come to terms with it being an accident.
I believe that in the end, the others understand what they went through and the two are forgiven for their actions and can find peace. Sunny isn't an evil murderer and neither is Basil. They were confused children at the time unable to understand what happened.

Before I go to sleep (it’s almost 2am im sorry), I just wanna share my honest feelings in the comment section as everybody does. This was a hella of an emotional roller coaster I went through for the past 2 weeks binge watching the series everyday. I’m regretting a bit that I accidentally overslept at some parts and I let myself get spoiled (i could not resist) especially crucial parts of the story. The last part always gotta hit you that hard, I have to say, though I wish I would have been more emotional with the memories. The climax is when, of course, Sunny looks and smiles at Basil and everything went down. I legit can not stop my tears although it was not really crying. I truly felt that Omori deserves to get an award for how beautiful (but scary) the game is. The small details to the bad jokes, the characters’ interactions to the fights we’ve had, it’s just mesmerizing that I want to start the series all over again, if possible. The music and the ambiences accompanying with the scenes just fits too well, and that’s probably another point I give to the developers. I can not thank you, Merg, enough for the fact you made a whole playthrough for Omori. I’m so glad that I discovered this amazing game through a friend, and honestly, probably there’s no other game out there that can make me be emotional this much like Omori. Merg, if you read through this comment, I love your content so much since I was younger, and I’m glad I clicked on your Undertale video through recommendation. Stay safe guys ❤

@Zeta We see them in Basil's POV because otherwise we would not see what he did. The photos of Basil hanging Mari show that Sunny wasn't seeing it (You hear shuffling. You hear dragging... and creaking... and pulling. Something is happening, but you refuse to look away from the leaves). The devs wanted to tell what Sunny was thinking whilst also showing the full history, so they went with Basil's POV and Sunny's commentary and that is entirely possible since Basil could have just told him what he did and Sunny imagined Basil's POV in his mind

I know this is heavy, so read at caution.
When I was 16 I tried to take my own life. I was horribly depressed, dealing with anxiety and many things.
I didnt want to deal with it. I saw death as an escape. An easy way to run away from all my guilt and regrets and sadness.
I failed, and while I was saved I did promise myself if my life ever took another dark turn, I would try to take my life again.
This changed my mind. Seeing all these characters, their feelings for eachother, the sadness at the loss of a loved one. I couldn't do that to the people I care about.
I couldn't take myself away from my mother, or my best friend whomst I'm in love with.
I wont.
I wont end my life if it gets hard again.

Merg, maybe you will never see it, but I have to leave this comment. This was the best playthrough I have ever watched. A lot of times I gave up and left a playthrough of other games made by other youtubers because it was boring etc. But this one was a masteriece. Ur reactions and personality really added to the story. Ur kel jokes, shocked reactions, „they never expect the double” everything was like a perfect adventure. At the end I cried with you. Never though I would like to watch somebody play a game this much. Also most of the times I play multiplayer games, mostly fps, for example valorant. This game, and this play through was amazing enough to make me watch the whole story. There aren’t many single player games I like that much. Omori is like my treasure right now. *_List and instructions get all endings (Spoiler free):_*
*Good Ending:* Got it! in this video!
*Extra (Good) Ending:* Got it! Also in the video, you get it after the good ending, but just when you water Basil's plants in the headspace at least 3 times. Just a little extra-wholesome scene, where they smile at each other :)
*Bad Ending:* Lose and give up on Omori's battle. If you don't mind copyright; however, you may have to mute the audio cuz a copyrighted song plays (The community has obsessed with this song a little, ngl. It's pretty good.)
*Neutral Ending:* This is basically not saving Basil. For the complete experience, don't just leave Basil's House, but go to sleep again. Then after waking up, you can go to your house.
This gets us to Neutral Ending A, and neutral ending B (which has a bit of variations). For the Neutral A, just go to sleep. For the other, grab the knife and go to sleep.
*HIKIKOMORI ENDING:* The end of the other route. I think it can have just a little bit of variations, but to get the other route, Just don't open the door to Kel on the 2nd day (after Space Boyfriend).
And fun fact! In the first episode, there was an achievement. It was called "Oyasumi", you get it after sleeping for the first time in-game. You obviously got it, but I wanted to say that that phrase is referenced in other endings. It means "Good Night!" In Japanese. Oh-ya-soo-mee. Really fitting, considering the sleeping theme in the game.
Hikikomori means "Shut in person" that basically doesn't go outside. It's from Japanese again "引きこもり". Also fun fact I think no many people know, but the kanji "引" in the work Hikikomori (引きこもり) can also mean "To play a string instrument". Damn. It even is sometimes related to Violins! hehe, guess learning Japanese was a good (work in progress) idea! (Also, most likely that's why the game is called "Omori"...... HikikOMORI)

Sunny‘s and Mari‘s story is so tragic. Sunny is still a child and headspace is basically a product of his trauma thus the creation of „OMORI“. Edit: Thank you for playing this game, Merg. Omori was made to not die most likely because he was scared of death after what he just did. Omori knew everything about the incident, except for the fact that sunny has changed.
This has to be one of the best endings to omori ever, learning to accept and move on, and to never give up. I hope merg returns to Omori for some other endings.

This is one of the best games I've ever played/seen, the way the story is revealed is brilliant. And the amount of content and details that can be found just makes it even better.
What an ending. I mean really, Omocat and the team really know how to make a game good. I could tell you would like the ending as much as me, and as sad as I am that the series is over, I’m glad I got to watch my favorite RUclips play one of the best games ever.

And there it is, the end... I watched this series like I never was before, I jumped in day to day to check up on new series, and it filled my heart with a waterfall of different emotions, even if that wasn't me who playing it. The closer it was to the ending, the more intense, the more I was hooked to it, but somewhere deep I didn't want to let it go, even if it was just a matter of time. Guess, that's what a good story and a perfect storyteller do to you, huh?..
In any case, here I am, typing this comment and watching a number of about 27 hundred of comments of other people, knowing that this has the slimmest chance of being noticed by literally anyone and that I'm going to probably delete it later, just like I always do. It's just, you know, the embarrassment of opening your foolish thoughts, especially when you don't even know the language good enough to express it.
But, I'm going to type something else, 'cause it doesn't really matter in the end. Now, knowing the whole story I look back at myself and at my actions. I've done this countless times before. but this time it's something... strange, yet logical. I did not made that mistake as Sunny/Maxy did in his past, but there's a plenty of much more smaller stuff that I wish to change, but... It's weird, but I don't want to, because if I did undo all my regrets, took a different route on some paths, I would be a completely different person, and I would miss so much things I have now, even if some of them get lost on the way. Heh, daring today with some personal, are we? What a sad excuse for me.
And hey, you. Yes, the one who's reading it right now. You're probably wondering why did I write all of this, and... there isn't a proper reason, I just got emotional thanks to the greatest RUclipsr out there, which I think of now as a messiah, no less. I don't cry alot at things. It takes alot to get me to cry. Not a bad thing, I just don't cry alot at games and shows. But this. This got me to cry. I spoiled the ending for myself as I figured no youtuber I knew would ever play it. So I watched a summary video. Then Merg started playing. I love this game. Even knowing what happens it got me to cry. Omori is extremely well written. And it got me to cry. Something I don't do very often.
