Amazing video, learned so much in 7 min. Got few filters, but never knew when was the best time to use them or what they actually do, but now I do, thanks to you! Small question though, what happened to this vlogs Swedish word? 😋
So glad to hear that you learned stuff! Go out there and start using them :D. I recorded this before i came up with the other vlog, that's why...
You prolly dont give a damn but does someone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot my password. I would love any help you can offer me!
@Matteo Trace instablaster =)
@Moses Maximiliano I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process now.
Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Moses Maximiliano it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass :D
A UV filter is totally worth it! My granddaughter pulled my camera off my desk and my Canon f4 24-105 hit the floor at about a 45 degree angle. My $12 UV filter had a huge dent in it. So much that I couldn’t unscrew it off the lens. I had to break the glass to get to the inner metal ring of the cheap UV filter. I proceeded to pull/bend the ring out with pair of needle nose pliers until I was able to unscrew it. My $1200 lens was saved by a $12 purchase. I’ll take that any day of the week.
basically ANY filter would've saved your lens, not necessarily a UV filter
Bro just calculated all the angles in a second 😂😂
I'm with you. I always keep a UV filter on and then take it off to put a different one on if I need something different but I always have a filter on for this very reason
Wouldn't a lens hood do the same, without reducing image quality, and in fact improving contrast by removing lens flare?
I have a lens from a popular brand K&F , the UV filter just produces very bad glare.
I came here to understand the difference between those filters not knowing you'd be explaining the "1 stop" thingy. I've always had a hard time understanding it. But thanks to you it's now crystal clear. Thank you so much
Thanks Peter, seriously you just made understanding these lenses so easy..spot on..really cool..great simple and straight to point..Also thanks for putting your hard work for making us understand
Finally I understood the bloody stops.. thanks mate. I'm subscribing
Love the video man, very helpful. I just got the Mckinnon VND MistII and excited to test it out. I did also get a UV filter since I shoot drift races at times and you never know when debris is flyinig in the air and could hit your front element.
I never understood stop of light until i watched this video, peter you are awesome!!
Thank you for explaining it in simple terms with reference's. Great video.
Thanks man...well explained....was searching for this explanation on filters for so long.....
This was super helpful! Thank you for your thoughtful explanations!!
Such a good explanation of stops of light 🙌🏼
Great breakdown and explanation. Much appreciated.
Well the trick is if you're trying to use your camera in low light you don't want sunglasses on the lens, you want as much light as possible. But you might not want to take the ND or VND filter off because that's what protects the lens from scratches, dust, dirt, fingerprints etc. So unless VND filters go as low as 0 stops of light (clear), then UV filters are actually still quite useful.
Thanks man, helped me a lot
Bro its everything on your channel, decided to check whether you have something about nd filters, here you are
Haha! I've been putting out a lot of videos but some of them fall in to the abyss that is RUclips!
Glad you enjoyed it =D
Thanks for taking the time to make this video 📸
Very good explanation - thank you
Great content for beginners and semi professional 👌
Love your videos man
Hey, thanks a lot for this video. Which filter would you use for shooting wedding ceremony which happens outside at the noon, please? I am kinda struggling when shooting ceremonies. Thanks in advance
Thank you!!!
Thanks.... for explaining the 1 stop vs 3 stops. I didn't quite get why that would be something to convert myself with. Secondly, I have UV filters for my D200 - yeah, an old dinosaur. And mostly I've used them to protect my expensive lenses. Now I am interested in shooting video with my iPhone Pro Max and looking for clarity in which ND filter I should go with. Do I get 3 or a set of 5 different filters? Then I would have to switch them out basically to see whats best for whichever lighting scenario I was in... Hmmmm.... The variable seems the best which gives you multiple options in one and you can control the density. That I found to be great. SO I will be looking for a variable ND for my phone. Thanks again.
Amazing video! Thanks for sharing info on ND filter. BTW, how did you do the effect of text coming in and out? Motion?
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it!
That's a plugin that i've bought from motionvfx.com, for a job that i did, but thought i'd start using it in my own videos =D.
Thanks for watching man!
@@PeterLindgren1 Hey 🙏 thanks so much for your reply, im gonna check it out 😊
Awesome. I need a variable ND And would like to know how to get those waterfall shots with long exposure.
Makes me WISH I was doing more outdoor videoing. I'm doing mostly inside (birth videographer) but heck.... I'm still going to video outside the homes/buildings. I LEARNED OODLES cause of you. THANKS! I now know what this thing is for that my camera came with. 😁
Awesome vid Peter! 0:32 Those bullet text effect is so cool. Can you please make a video about how to do that
Thanks man! I actually bought them as a plugin for a job i did. You can find them at motionvfx.com!
Thanks for the video. It was helpful. I have a question though. Why would you be using a slow shutter in the middle of the day? What's an example of that?
to keep motion blur looking natural, high shutter speed will reduce the motion blur
A uv filter has saved me alot of money over the years, saved my lenses from scratches alot of times. It doesn't affect the image but if you are just starting out or are on a budget its worth 20$ bucks to eventually save you the cost of your lens.
Thank you very much
I think UV filters are very usual , IF you are protecting high end glasses over 1,500 $ range. Just gives an extra piece of mind if you need to take wide angle shots without the hood. Specially in fog, dust, high wind, beach, desert situations
Wow that was very fluid thks ! Quick question, cause I didn't find the answer on the interweb, are JJC NDV filters fit with Tamron lenses ?
Shouldn't be an issue...just check the thread size on the front of your lens to see what size NDV you need...✌
@@JamesLavish Thanks for your feedback !
Thank you my dear brother
cool video. But whey does nobody mention clear protective filters? I think it would be smart to always have that on, same as a glass protector on my phone's screen. Also, ISO doesn't change the amount of light received by the sensor to produce a frame, it just changes the settings of the sensor, so that it "overreacts" to the same amount of light, hence why the quality of the picture always becomes worse the more you increase it beyond it's default/native setting.
Nice information
I’m going to Alaska will be photographing whales and animals in the water and glaciers, snow and water in sunlight. Should I use an adjustable UV filter? Recommendation?
Beautiful man 😅
great video
Nice point :)
I got a UV filter as part of a kit of filters
Thank you so much man ! 4 years ago I started photography and it just right now I understand what is a fucking stop ahah
Thank's from France !
PLVLOG The funny thing is yeasterday I was getting out of my car and I was carrying one too many things and I dropped my A9 with my GM 24mm F1.4 and it hit hard! on the cement smh. I herd a crash and looked down and saw glass by the camera. Well, as i bend down to pick up my camera it all looked banged up to me so i picked it up and I knew it was not good at all. To my surprise and being absent minded I totally forgot I always buy UV filters for my lenses and the glass I saw on the ground was from my Heliopan UV filter and the ring on the UV filter was all banged up but my camera and my lens was perfectly fine. Not one scratch on them lol man if you only knew the feeling i felt when I saw it was only the UV filter. I think you see my point from this but I can say with 100% if I didn't have that UV filter on my camera my Lens would've been broken without a doubt and that was worth every bit of the $100 I spend for it. Just me, also love the content you've been putting out PLVLOG keep it coming.
Haha thats a good story man! I've never dropped a lens though. You gotta be more careful man ;).
Thanks man, glad you're enjoying the content! Hope you'll keep enjoying it =D
@@PeterLindgren1 lol I understand, it was my first time ever dropping a camera or lens out of 6 years but i'm thankful today lol.
i have an UV filter on my 85 because "insurance" and when i bought it i was saving up to purchase the 85 compared to the 35 which i had a gift card but wished i had the polarizer or ND
It's a great thing to have as a protection if you feel that you need it, but it doesn't do anything special to your images as many people might think.
I'd recommend a variable ND if you're doing video and a Polarizer if you shoot a lot of landscapes. Thanks for sharing!
@@PeterLindgren1 yeah it really doesn't do anything but when I got my 85 since it was coming from my own pocket I should've asked for a polarizer since I mostly take photos with it.
Hey i have a question! All nd works on all lenses?
@@artbyac5255 yeah just have to figure our how large the lens is aka 67mm 77mm 82mm
UV Filters are great to protect the lens
One more tip, dont cheap out on the variable ND-filters.. I recently got a cheap (300 SEK) JJC 62 mm variable ND-filter, and it got this terrible X-pattern.. My ~1500 SEK (~140 Euro) NISI variable ND-filter is friggin amazing.. Perhaps i got a bad copy of the JJC filter, who knows..
That happens when you use it on wider angles though. I have no issues using my JJC ND filters for video at all (in fact all videos and vlogs here are shot using that very JJC ND Filter).
But if you are going to take photos i recommend fixed ND Filters though.
Image quality wise it's more bang for the buck buying one JJC Variable ND and one Fixed ND!
Thanks for dropping a comment man!
@@PeterLindgren1 Yeah, i got it for my Sony 10-18 mm.. Its not totally useless, but when its fully dark its not usable..
As i said, Using it on a wide angle lens will make it worse when turning it to its darkest. Try using it on a 50mm or an 85 and the issue is gone =)
Does the variable ND polarize light horizontally?
Hi Peter! Nice review! You shoot videos with carpenters and blacksmiths. Your videos are a great inspiration. I am looking for a good quality protective filter for my lens. I am going to film all kinds of handicraft and I need to protect my lens. Do you have any suggestions for a good filter up to 100 bucks?
I do use UV filter...Well indeed to protect the lens n the laziness to clean the lens but the filter itself...For the other i necer use it and havent try it once hahahahha nice to know though
So won't somebody change the aperture ?
Great video!
I ditched my UV filter a long time ago. But now I’m looking for a circular polarizer filter for getting rid of reflections.
Which brand is your cpl filter?
Thanks
It's funny the day before I watched this video I went to a DSLR 101 class and we were told we should get UV filter lol. Thanks for clearing up the stops. I'm a newbie and I had no idea what it meant and how it will help me.
Not sure what you were saying but the music was interesting…
uv filter would be needed prolly if you're in a dusty place....
I need UV at my M8😂
Think I'd rather pay £10 for a uv filter then risk on the off chance breaking £300 lens
Like you said. The UV is waste of money. I am a beginner and just shooting photos at this point. The ND filters are useless for me. I am looking for a filter that reduces highlights and keeping the shadows the same. Don't know if that exists. Hey, what do I know.
Maybe a pro-mist
ASWM
How much do you lift? Sheesh.
A little tip saving you time and money.
Unless you do video, don't bother with variable ND filters. Fixed stop ND filters do a MUCH BETTER job for still photography without weird artifacts and are much more usable.
Also don't buy the cheapest filters. Medium range is where it's at.
