When you're back in UK you should do a "weirdest local foods", I'd love to see what kind of weird foods ppl in there eat bc most countries have foods that are considered delicious there but that most foreigners think are gross (like mämmi).
Vispipuuro! Best when it is home made! Lingonberries or black currant or red currant (lingonberries are most common, black currant my favorite), it is basically same stuff with mannapuuro, but it is done by berry juice (not to milk) and whipped at the end. 😍
-Try blueberry soup with Riisipuuro (Rice porridge) The homemade is the best! -I think that the Nalle is just oats or something. Nalle means something like a teddy bear. Karhu is just a bear.
Aw so happy you brought up Manna Puuro! Brought back so many childhood memories for me! Loved it for those special breakfasts when my dad woke up a bit earlier on weekdays and made it for me and my brother and the day couldn't have a better start! Thank you for that!
The choco bits from o'boy are the BEST, also when the choco thats left on the bottom of the glass reaches your mouth, it's like a dessert after a dessert! yum
Pyttipannu is the Finnish equivalent to Italian pizza and the whole consept of using what ever leftovers you had in your fridge. Potatoes, sausages and onions are such frequent ingredients in Finnish cuisine, that you are almost assured to have atleast those as leftovers. Thus the premade freezer version has specifically those three ingredients. Techically any leftovers fried on a pan, is pyttipannu.
Riisipuuro is really easy to make, but for even easier to brake. All you need is water, salt, porridge rice and full (high fat) milk. The trick to not to mess it up, is to add the milk when it's almost done, since milk is easily spoiled by heat. The only downside is that it is really time consuming, but selfmade "rice porridge" is not only cheap, but also heavingly delicious, especially with some sugar, cinnamon and milk.
My favorite is mashed potatoes, meatballs and gravy with carrots (boiled or grated). All home made of course, because those prepared foods are usually a bit gross.
I'm actually a bit amazed of how many genuinely finnish foods you like. You need to try one more thing! It's called vispipuuro, it is made with manna and lingonberries, whisked into this delicious foamy dessert. It is a bit sour though, since lingonberries are not exactly the sweetes berry around, but I definitely think you should try it! Also, chocholate mannaporridge.
Dave with the chocolate milk but a tad bit of hot water in the bottom, then put the power in and mix it, it mixes well with hot water/ water in general, and then add milk, works for me fine, no chunks.
just a small tip, I tend to eat rice porridge with a salted butter. It's the best add-on, personally I know it as oldschool style, since my grandpa was the only one in our family to do the same.
Fazerina is my #1 favorite Fazer product. Milk chocolate with an orange & vanilla truffle filling. If you like a Terry's Chocolate Orange you'll love these.
Dave Cad, I have a tip for making smoother cocoa with O'boy! ;) Put the powder in first and add milk a little bit, stirring all the time. When you have the o'boy in a smooth, thick liquid, add the rest of the milk in slowly. Sure, you need to know how much powder you need on the get-go if you don't heat it up, but in your case the lumps are welcome as well. :D
Here are few of my favorites, that I highly recommend trying: leipäjuusto ja lakkahillo (=Cheese bread;squeaky cheese with cloudberry jam) and köyhät ritarit (finnish french toast) you make them with old sweet bread like Pullava ;)
You should taste "vispipuuro". It's yummy! Self made is always better (of course) but Saarioinen make pretty good stuff. Traditionally vispipuuro has made from semonlina boiled in lingonberry juice with some sugar. If you'll make it yourself you could replace lingonberry something other flavour (orange, pineapple, cherry, etc. juices). You'll can enjoy it as such or with some milk on it.
Try putting a tablespoon (or three) of the hot chocolate powder, and just a tiny amount of milk. The result is brown runny goo, that tastes great! Keep adding more powder to get the thickness you want. YUM! Ps. For perfectly mixed hot chocolate add milk to the runny goo. No more powder floaters in your drink!
If you don’t want the little bits in you chocolate milk, you should first put milk in a glass and then put some of that pouder on top and then wait(don’t stir) until the pouder has fully soaked then stir
It's autumn so you must collect some great mushrooms (or buy them atleast)! Kantarelli (chanterelle) is so good with onion mixed with cream and potatoes! I also like chicken sandwich by Rainbow. Those triangle shaped boxes at S-Market or Prisma. Try that!
Smoked salmon with mashed potatoes is one of my favourites! Hey I have an idea for your videos; try and rate finnish fast food chains! Like Hesburger, Kotipizza, Rolls and Fafas. Or maybe some local pizza & kebab shop also?
You really should try "ryynimakkara"! It's a sausage with no meat in it, it is very traditional and Finnish, mainly eaten on Christmas. You can use the liquid thing in karjalanpaisti on top of it or the grease from the Christmas pork (oh god my awful English vocalbury is showing itself in it's horrendous form)
I remember that when I was in kindergarten, sometimes there would be this chocolate mannapuuro for dessert. It was everyones favourite and the huge bowl of it went empty so fast :D
When I was little I put spoonfuls of o'boy (the powder) in my mouth and then drank milk on top. Almost killed myself (not really) inhaling it a few times before I could get the milk in my mouth :D I make it sound dangerous but you should try it! There used to be an o'boy chocolate sauce too which could be put on ice cream. Yummie, oh and speaking of ice cream, mix the o'boy with vanilla ice cream (the one made with real double cream), it's so good, no doubt about it. Period.
Temptation is made of thinly sliced potatoes, think of taking burger joint french fry and cut it into nine parts lenghtwise, that thin. And egg and cream mixture. If you put then ham in it is a ham temptation. Traditionally it was deboned herring. But you can use prawns or bacon. Whatever you fancy. It's kinda like a gratine but need less cooking time and thus doesn't spoil the protein. If you try to put ham in a traditional potatoes au gratine the ham is not there anymore after you've baked it.
O'boy + vanilla ice cream mixed together as soft ice is so much better than any chocolate ice-cream out there. And since you have mannapuuro, you should make vispipuuro out of it.
Oh my god😍 i wish i had those. Riisipuuro and mannapuuro self made of course. Kinkkukiusaus and pyttipannu. I can't even... so good omg. I need to make pyttipannu some day. We have kinkkukiusaus sometimes at school. It is really good! I really don't have a personal favourite but i like so much of many Finnish foods. Good video! It is nice to hear that you like so many Finnish things and foods so we Finnish people are not only ones😂 Keep it going Dave!!
Like most foods, rice porridge is best when you make it yourself, and it is not difficult, and you can make a larger batch and it will keep days in the fridge. I have once tried one from a store (perhaps by Saarioinen, cannot remember), and it was vile! I can guess it's the same for mannapuuro. Here's a suggestion for eating rice porridge (pudding): Put on it some sugar and some strawberry jam, then eat it with rye bread topped with sliced ham! It is a surprising combination but darn good.
o'boy tip: you should put littlebit of cream in the glass first and then add some o'boe and mix it really good and then add milk. as for the result there should not be any cocoa povder on top, but insted there should be a layer of "whisped cream". so good👌
If you happen to visit the city of Tampere at some point, head to the restaurant called "Plevna" (it's just next to a movie theater by the same name) and try their pyttipannu. It's the best of it's kind I have ever crammed into my mouth. They are also a microbrewery with some delicious ales, and I would especially like to recommend their mead.
I wanna recommend that if you ever visit Turku, you HAVE to taste the sausage-french fries (makkaraperunat) with all seasoning from Manttu's grill (Mantun grilli, right next to Aurasilta/Aura bridge). It is just sinfully good, idk how they make it so damn delicious. Just thought that if you love pyttipannu, you'll love that too.
My faforite food in Finland is Hetki kana caesar salaatti (caesar chicken salad) and Kokkikartano kinkku ananas pasta. (Ham pineapple pasta) Or pinaattilätyt 😊. They are SO GOOD and I hope you'll taste at least one of them ❤
+Dave Cad - I think you should make homemade porridge rather than buying it. It's a good difference and better texture besides the flavor of course. Do that since you love finnish porridge. Dave dont worry you are not bad a sturring the chocolate milk it just doesnt mix that well! And my favorite finnish food is probably Poronkäristys. Its like reindeer meat cut into chips and i guess overcooked such good very love
pro tip: if you want to get rid of the chocolate lumps in the oboy cocoa you can kinda squeeze them with your spoon against the cup so they break! you’ve probably figured that out by yourself but I just wanted to share my tip! 😂
if you do want the chocolate bits out you've got to only put a little bit of milk first with the powder and mix that and then add the rest of the milk :-)
Hello there. You should try, if you are able to get your hands on this: "poron kuivalihakeitto". It's traditional food here on northern Finland. Cheers mate keep up the good work.
Karjalan paisti and makaroonilaatikko are the best finnish foods
Tatu Datu ite en taas makaroonilaatikkoa 😂
Karjalanpaisti on mautonta paskaa.
Makaronilaatikko*
Mistä lähtien makaroonilaatikko on suomalaista

Karjalanpiirakat munavoilla! But there is a huge difference between homemade and store bought so you should find someone who makes them from scratch 😘
Anne Ahlholm Fazer's Karelian pies are really good though! (Imatran riisipiirakka)The best store bought you can find!
hemmuu1 I totally agree that those are good
Try Brunberg's kisses (Brunberg kyssar, Brunberg suukkoja) and defiantly strawberry flavor.
ahhhh Niggakisses are the best finnish food😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
My british boyfriend loves the Kaalilaatikko (or cabbage box like he calls it). Everytime he is over in Finland he has to get it.
Karelian Pie. That’s my favorite Finnish food. With egg butter, of course!
-Try blueberry soup with Riisipuuro (Rice porridge) The homemade is the best!
-I think that the Nalle is just oats or something. Nalle means something like a teddy bear. Karhu is just a bear.
PineApul GT Mustikkamaito on parasta
You should try definately karjalanpiirakoita munavoilla! They're delicious!

Jep mannapuuroa ja kaakao jauhetta, tummaki jauhe käy tosihyvi monet vaa ei uskalla kokeilla sitä. Se sopii myös kaakao juomaan.
Maiju Lammassaari no pun intended

moivaanmoi mielipide kysymys, sori
Even better if you mix mannapuuro and few piece of chocolate. :D
In kinkkukiusaus is food cream :D

You have to try "poronkäristys!!!" like if you agree
Albert slotte Yeah with lingonberry jam!
Tämä
Albert slotte ABSOLUTELY!
He can't eat Rudolph
Albert puolukkahillon ja perunamuusin kanssa! onko parempaa 😍😍

i love that how u said´´kinkkukiusaus´´ it was perfect finnish, good job and keep learning, MOIKKA!
Fazerina is my #1 favorite Fazer product. Milk chocolate with an orange & vanilla truffle filling. If you like a Terry's Chocolate Orange you'll love these.

metamorphosis to a Finn is well underway :) You have to try mustamakkara, straight from the factory naturally
you make great vids , keep up good work
I love all of those!

Awesome to hear that you like our ham temptation (kinkkukiusaus) Dave :)
You are very good. I am from Finland and it is fun to watch while you recite the Finnish language. (I did not mean that bad)
Suppilovahverosavuporo keittiö!!!
Funnel chanterelle-smoked reindeer soup made by my mom!
And chanterelles in general 😍
Karoliina Kähkönen Chantarelle is kantterelli, Suppilovahvero is yellowfoot
Smoked salmon with mashed potatoes is one of my favourites! Hey I have an idea for your videos; try and rate finnish fast food chains! Like Hesburger, Kotipizza, Rolls and Fafas. Or maybe some local pizza & kebab shop also?

For Oboy, pour some hot liquid in cup, put the powder in, stir, and then add some more hot liquid and stir again.
Try adding a little bit of o'boy in the porridge to make chocolate porridge :P
We eat those things too, but here a tip for you. Mix some cocoa powder with that mannapuuro. This blows your mind, its so delicious
Temptation is made of thinly sliced potatoes, think of taking burger joint french fry and cut it into nine parts lenghtwise, that thin. And egg and cream mixture. 4:05 the exact reason I love you and your videos so much Dave 😂❤
Dave you were actually very close to the perfect combination - manna + o'boy mixed together (only when it's still warm) :)
You should try mixing cocoa powder and sugar in mannapuuro while making it. Sooo good!
O'boy + vanilla ice cream mixed together as soft ice is so much better than any chocolate ice-cream out there. And since you have mannapuuro, you should make vispipuuro out of it.

I really don't have a personal favourite but i like so much of many Finnish foods.
Good video! It is nice to hear that you like so many Finnish things and foods so we Finnish people are not only ones😂 Keep it going Dave!!
I recommend to try rye bread (ruisleipä), slices of cold smoked reindeer (poron kylmäsavu leikkele) and fresh lettuce top of it (lehtisalaatti.)
Like most foods, rice porridge is best when you make it yourself, and it is not difficult, and you can make a larger batch and it will keep days in the fridge. Perunamuusi ja silakkapihvit
o'boy tip:
you should put littlebit of cream in the glass first and then add some o'boe and mix it really good and then add milk. as for the result there should not be any cocoa povder on top, but insted there should be a layer of "whisped cream". so good👌
You ahould try Saaristolaisleipä, as you liked the tosi tumma ruispalat, the ruispalat is based on saaristolaisleipä, I think you would love it!
I love all of the things you mentioned here 😊!!! Especially the 'ham temptation' 😂 but it is way better when its homemade!!
Oh you have to try and mix up oboy with ordinary vanilla icecream and stir it up so its like fluffy milkshake! That is SOO good...
I tend to mix oboy with a bit of milk (like, a BIT) before addimg more milk, there's less dry powder that didn't mix that way :)
Chopped liver patties (jauhemaksapihvi) with mashed potatoes and lingonberries, also kesäkeitto and cabbage casserole 😍
My faforite food in Finland is Hetki kana caesar salaatti (caesar chicken salad) and Kokkikartano kinkku ananas pasta. (Ham pineapple pasta) Or pinaattilätyt 😊. They are SO GOOD and I hope you'll taste at least one of them ❤
Im from finland and i like pytti pannu and dominos
Kalakukko. Savonian food. Fish and pork baked inside rye crust. You need to try that Dave.
next time you come to finland. You should visit vallila and käpylä in helsinki, there are good skating spots too
Make sure that you put cocoa flour in a mannapuuro .se it looks really good when mixed!
+Dave Cad - I think you should make homemade porridge rather than buying it. It's a good difference and better texture besides the flavor of course. Do that since you love finnish porridge.
Buy the muumin version of O'Boy! It doesn't have as much of the "chunk"-problem as O'Boy. I can't recall the brand of it for now tho but it's a bit smaller package with lighhtgreen background with some of the moomins visible on it.
You need to try this!
Buy vanilla ice cream and put few spoons of O'boy on top. It's freaking delicious!
Warm milk, O’boy and Minttu-viina mixed together is the best way to survive cold Finnish winter 😉
Ryebread
My favourite finnish food is KYLMÄSAVULOHI
I don’t really have a favourite food. I like em all... But maybe christmas foods are the best (you can do a whole video of the christmas foods)! So if I had to say my favourite it would maybe be traditional CHRISTMAS HAM with ”korppu-sinappi kuorrute”
My fave is home made siskonmakkarakeitto, translated either to Sisko’s (name) sausage soup or sister’s sausage soup.
Uuniomena yoghurt..which is just baked apples. But so good
Dave dont worry you are not bad a sturring the chocolate milk it just doesnt mix that well! And my favorite finnish food is probably Poronkäristys. Its like reindeer meat cut into chips and i guess overcooked such good very love
There is also a Finnish coco mix drink from Fazer. Try that.
Pytti pannu is so gooooooood!!
Dave the translation is not ham temptation. Kinkkukiusaus is closed compound and when you write the words separately the meaning of the word change.
It was so lovely how you talk about mannapuuro! 😄 sweet
Kinkkukiusaus is made with potato, onion, ham , cream and some salt and pepper. Easy peasy...
pro tip: if you want to get rid of the chocolate lumps in the oboy cocoa you can kinda squeeze them with your spoon against the cup so they break! you’ve probably figured that out by yourself but I just wanted to share my tip! 😂
Poron kuivalihakeitto! Kaikki kasvikset yms. kasvatettu/ammuttu itse !! translation: dried reindeer soup! all vegetables ect. shot/grown by self !!
if you do want the chocolate bits out you've got to only put a little bit of milk first with the powder and mix that and then add the rest of the milk :-)
Kinkkukiusaus has basically nothing but ham, potato and cream. Some salt and pepper to taste. Put in to oven until potatoes are done.
Karjalanpaisti, karjalanpiirakka and irtokarkki (chocolate ones especially)
Hello there. You should try, if you are able to get your hands on this: "poron kuivalihakeitto". It's traditional food here on northern Finland. Cheers mate keep up the good work.
Put cocoa powder in semolina porridge (mannapuuro) and you get chocolate porridge. It is so freaking good that it will blow your mind.
