Who thinks we should start a petition to add "tallon nom min nä tallininske" to the dictionary? It roughly translates to "I DON'T SPEAK FINNISH" hahah xD
The important thing is to remember that in finnish, you emphasize the first part of the word. For example, instead of having the "weight" of the word in the middle like you said in the police part (poLIIsi), you emphasize the first part (POliisi). The same goes to basically every word in the finnish language!
"Tämä on minun taloNI." Here I have for you a couple of other forms you'll be needing later on. :P talo, talon, taloa, talossa, talosta, taloon, talolla, talolta, talolle, talona, taloksi, talotta For example: Olen talossa. = I'm in a house. (Compare: Olen talo. = I'm a house.)
Suomi mainittu, torilla tavataan! Mukava seurata edistymistäsi :) Inflections and suffixes may seem like a pain but there's a method in that madness :D and that's why we have a lot fewer root words to learn. So many words are derived. For examples: kirjain - a letter (of alphabet) kirje - a letter (of mail kind) kirja - a book kirjasto - a library kirjoittaa - to write kirjailija - an author kirjata - to keep record kirjasin - a font kirjuri - a scribe kirjoitus - a scripture etc.
I'm from West London originally. It takes a while to get a grip Just use Finnish as much as you can and don't be put off! It's funny most (young) Finns will answer me in English anyway when I speak Finnish, they have a knack for knowing your accent is foreign :) If it's any consolation Swedish is still as foreign to me as the day I arrived here. Sorry Cat :)
I found your videos just a few months ago, and I'm sad I haven't found them earlier :D Dave, your are my favorite youtuber now! Keep going! P.s. You and Cat are so cute together :) P.p.s. Tee lisää Suomi-aiheisia videoita, olet hyvä tyyppi!
I love your reactions when you get the words right! You look so genuinely happy and proud, like a little child 😄 Keep up, you are doing so great! And you make us Finns proud of our language 👍
En tiedä miksi nämä ovat niin viihdyttäviä. Kai sitä oppii jotain suomalaisuudesta itsekkin näiden myötä :) Keep going! You should try "maakuntamatkailu" next summer, and make videos about that. Thumbs up!
I like this type of learning finnish videos! I find it entertaining but also useful for you. I like how the words and sentences were ones that you can actually use when you’re in Finland. Also acting out a scene with Cat made this video fun and 10 minutes went reallu quickly. I would love to see more of this ☺️
Thanks! These are a lot of fun to make and yeah, I learn a lot! Because of the editing, I hear everything over and over again so it's actually a really great way to learn
I feel like you’re learning so fast, but the mispronunciations every once in a while give me so much happiness for some reason! So proud of you Dave 👊🏻
Check out books: "Hardwick's Sauce: eli Neilin Tähteet" by Neil Hardwick and "How to Marry a Finnish Girl" by Phil Schwarzmann. + of course Fingerpori-comics in english :)
Hyvä video, opit hyvin! 😄 Suomi on hankala kieli. Lisää tämmösiä videoita! 😊 // Good video, you will learn well! 😄 Finnish is a difficult language. More of these videos! 😊
Your pronunciation is really good. Love your acting too. Maybe you should make a career out of it. You could star in a movie with Cat. I'd pay to see that.
I just want to say I have enjoyed your videos, Dave, as I silently lurk and watch from time to time without commenting ever (introvert, hah). It's super cute of you to try and learn Finnish even though it's harsh language, as I say myself as a Finn. Cat sounds like Finnish, is she?
This is absolutely my favourite way to learn finnish haha it's just so much fun and I just wanted to let you know, that your videos are really useful for me learning finnish as well hahaha kiitos ❣
8:41 Nailed it :D You're getting better though! Soon you can just pop a random conversation in Finnish! Maybe you should suprise Cat by randomly saying something in Finnish to her every now and then? Like just a Finnish word, like all of a sudden you'll just be like: "Ruokakauppa."
You sound so cute when you speak Finnish!😊 And that's actually pretty good way to teach Finnish to someone when there are words and pictures, I should definitely try that with my boyfriend too! 👍 -Amelia
Dave Cad yeah 😂 I actually had an english version of that book when I was little so it was kinda nostalgic to watch, remembering how I tried to learn english hah!
I loved this . I have to say that I have thought that this might be a good route to restart my Finnish language studies i.e. getting some childrens books and learning from the ground up, so to speak :).
Has anyone ever showed you a list of finnish grammitical cases (the endings to words like -ssa, -lla, -aan, etc.)? I think it could help you understand why and how words change as they do. 😊
Dave there's a little bit difference between different words meaning shop or store in Finnish. 😊 ruokakauppa - a grocery (sorry, I can't remember if it's called the same in British English ;) kauppa - a shop or a store Just wanted to let you know. 😃 Keep up the great work man! 🖒
as a finn i find these vids kinda funny especially when u speak finnish u sometimes say letters as in english it is very funny to hear as a completely finnish guy =D

You need to tell Cat that she can help you. Just wright words on a tape and put it on the stuf. Like you wrigth "OVI" and put it on the door or wright "LAUTANEN" and put it on the plate 😁 Name everything in your home so you learn words every day 😚

I've been here(Finland)
22 years Dave and the language does come after a while :)
Where are you from originally? And here's me after a few months like DAMN IT THIS IS NEVER GONNA SINK IN!
I'm from West London originally. It takes a while to get a grip Just use Finnish as much as you can and don't be put off! Aw well I'm glad you found me, eventually! :D
This was really fun to watch! And it's nice to see you learn new words and get better at speaking Finnish. I'd love to see more videos like this!
I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Awww - imo this was one of your most enjoyable videos. More of the same please! Baby needs to learn more Finnish! Cat, your face is so precious!
I love your reactions when you get the words right! You look so genuinely happy and proud, like a little child 😄 Keep up, you are doing so great! And you make us Finns proud of our language 👍

You should try to make a video where you are trying to speak only Finnish!😍
This has been requested a lot... I'm WAY off being able to do this, but one day!
You should take a look at finnish idioms if you haven't already. They can be quite hilarious.
Nice! I'll check some out!
This is sooo funny and sweet! 🤣 Can't wait for the next part!
Thanks Sonja :D
#cavedadgang

I feel like you’re learning so fast, but the mispronunciations every once in a while give me so much happiness for some reason! So proud of you Dave 👊🏻
It's weird, I feel like I'm learning at a snails pace but I'm glad my mistakes bring you happiness! :D
Check out books: "Hardwick's Sauce: eli Neilin Tähteet" by Neil Hardwick and "How to Marry a Finnish Girl" by Phil Schwarzmann.
+ of course Fingerpori-comics in english :)
I've actually been given "How to marry a Finnish girl"... It's sat on my shelf, kinda scared to read it until we get married 😂
Ok, time to man up and read the book then :p
"tallon nom min nä talloninske"
"TUTTELAFRUT"

That went a lot better than I expected. Thumbs up 👍

Your pronunciation is really good. Love your acting too. Maybe you should make a career out of it. You could star in a movie with Cat. I'd pay to see that.
Don't tempt us... xD
Dave Cad of course you must write the script by yourself. 😃
Has to be an action movie. That bank robbery scene was so convincing.
does it make easier say finnish words when you move your eyebrows?
100% easier xD
This was sooo cute gl man you are doing better every video keep up the great work.
Thanks! I feel like in this video I took a few steps back... but it was fun ^_^
Keep going Dave and Cat.
This was so hilarious, you made my day :)
I just want to say I have enjoyed your videos, Dave, as I silently lurk and watch from time to time without commenting ever (introvert, hah). It's super cute of you to try and learn Finnish even though it's harsh language, as I say myself as a Finn. Cat sounds like Finnish, is she?
Thanks a lot! Nice of you to leave a comment :) You're right, it is a harsh language! I'll get there! Yep, she's Finnish ^_^

Hyvinhän se sujuu! You'll be making a full video in fluent Finnish in no time 👍 Tsemppiä! + you two are seriously relationship goals.
Haha as long as "no time" means MANY YEARS xD
Dave Cad they said in no time, I said I have no time. So how long time is 'no time'? 😂
You sound so cute when you speak Finnish!😊 And that's actually pretty good way to teach Finnish to someone when there are words and pictures, I should definitely try that with my boyfriend too! 👍 -Amelia
I'm such a visual learner so this is great for me! Good luck teaching your boyfriend! xD
I'm doing this like you atm and i'm estonian so it is so much easier for me but.. thumbs up, Dave!
That's cool! Yeah I guess there are some similarities in the two languages! Good luck with it! :)
This is exactly how it went down when was teaching Finnish for my Dutch boyfriend 😂 Nice job!
YESSS!! More of this please! :D
Glad you liked it! :)
I was born speaking finnish fluently but I've lost a big part of it. Seeing you inspires me to learn the grammar and such again. Mvh Alexi from Sweden

You are getting there Dave, thumbs up, keep it up. 👍
Very, very slowly...
I like very much! You are so good in Finnish.
Thanks! I'm doing my best :D
Inka Tuomainen sijapääte on englanniksi suffix. 😊
Mikko Haapakoski Nopeesti vaan googlasin ku ei ollu hajuukaan mut asia tuli vissiin selväksi 😂
Cat is so cute and beautiful! I really adore you dave! You're a lucky man
Dave there's a little bit difference between different words meaning shop or store in Finnish. 😊

Keep it up man!
All I can say is thank god for the google translate plug in for chrome xD
Dave Cad Haha! 😂
Dave Cad those translations made by Google translator, can be hilarious sometimes. 😂
not anymore... they have upgraded it alot...
Dani Nironen last time I checked (an hour ago) those sentence translations were out of context. Separate word translations work fine though. 😃
You need to tell Cat that she can help you. Just wright words on a tape and put it on the stuf. Like you wrigth "OVI" and put it on the door or wright "LAUTANEN" and put it on the plate 😁 Name everything in your home so you learn words every day 😚
I’m having blast watching this video it’s awesome :D
+tttanjjja Glad to hear it :))
1:43 just like baby

SUOMI MAINITTU TORILLA TAVATAAN!!!
Vou! Poliisi tulee!
Lähdetään äkkiä karkuun.
^ this could also be helpful 👮🏻♂️
You really should start reading Koiramäki from Mauri Kunnas, those are really good books.
Someone else suggested this! I'll definitely check them out
This video made me laugh a lot! I’m learning finnish myself and am pretty much like the guy 😂❤ love the language tho!
At the one point i heard that you said (Minä taloni tallon) which is: i am gonna crush your house. Ty dave you made my day 🤦🏿♂️😍
I love that book series :) I'm gonna buy Tuhat sanaa venäjäksi and Tuhat sanaa japaniksi ;)
It's pretty good, yeah! Shame the online audio thing isn't so great
I´m a straight Finnish guy, but even I would take Dave!
6:12 make this a movie!
I think that it is more normal to say like "missä on ruokakauppa" than "missä ruokakauppa on". It sounds more normal when aseked from somenone.
Oh, and its more likely "poliisit tulee" not "poliisi tulee". Poliisit is plural
There's already a "Learning Finnish like a toddler" or something like that. Maybe you should collaborate! 🤣 I could see you communicating with a 2-year-old, haha!
I just love watching your videos :)
Aw i'm glad! :)
you two make a great couple....funny vid
I really had fun watching this especially cause i’m native finnish😂😂
Glad you had fun Julia! :)
