My band played this about a year and a half ago (I guess it's not my band anymore since I'm in college now) but my band teacher had percussionists actually set up in the audience to make the helicopter noises echo across the entire auditorium and we had a slideshow going overhead. When we were finished there was like a two minute standing ovation. Definitely one of the best experiences in all my years in concert band.

My highschool band was going to perform this piece right before the pandemic hit. I remember sight-reading this piece for the first time, and the percussion simulating the sound of helicopters gave me literal chills. Horn 2 was one hell of a part, but my section managed to get through it. We never got to perform this piece in the end, but my god this is going in the memory book.

I hated high school but I'd give up a whole lot to play in the band again. I played trumpet, first chair, from 5th to senior year. This will always be my favorite piece.

i remember when our band did this 2 years ago back when i was in High. it was so epic because at several points there would be "gun fire" through random parts of the piece which (even though it's not in the original sheet music) in my opinion made this song just way more epic! either way this song is a brilliant piece! i miss playing it too!

2 years ago, my sophomore year, I played the English horn solo on my alto sax. I remember being so nervous to play it in front of so many people. Then the day came, and I played it. I made my band director cry, I don’t think I’ll ever forget that. Well here I am a senior in Highschool, and we’re playing this again, and of course I have the solo. I hope I can perform it as well as I did two years ago.

In band we played this in middle school. For the helicopter sounds and guns we set up 6 bass drums on their sides in the audience. We flew the helicopter from back to front side to side and had a battle. That night we also played Pirates of the Caribbean. Both were college level. That was the last time those pieces were played. The next year they combined the middle schools and the band teacher retired. The only time the school had a standing ovation.

The Frozen Cathedral by John Mackey uses a bass flute. It's an instrument you don't hear or see much.

We are playing this at my school for a Veterans day concert on Friday. I get to play in the Helicopter. I play tenor sax as my main instrument and that part is flipping hard. But really fun.

We just got the piece today and I cannot wait to play this song for my spring concert! We each have a theme for each of our spring concerts and this year it's rememberance. For like the wars in the past and we are doing this piece (hopefully) I am overly excited to play it. I play the euphonium all my part has long whole notes and stuff like that.... 😑while the other people get the fun parts...

My band just played this in our concert 2 days ago and our teacher had to rearrange the piece because it would be too hard for us :/ but we did it! and our teacher had students go into areas of the audience with bass drum heads to make it a surround sound piece. honestly a really fun piece, even though i sucked at it lol
(im in an 7th & 8th grade band, so just a bunch of 13 and 14 year olds lmao)

We are playing this in band and I love it's my favorite one yet!! I play the trombone and I think that my part is simple compared to others but it makes the piece sound great as my part is different then others in measure 114!

We are playing this song in my symphic band, It is so much fun to play. People always seem to hate songs with alot of ink on the paper, but in my opinion, I love paying difficult music with fast notes and hard fingerings......such as Armenian Dances by Alfred Reed....now that song is fun :D

I played Russian Christmas Music by Alfred Reed for a winter concert one year. Afterwards, the reaction from the audience was "that wasnt very christmasy" but as a horn player, it was a really fun song to play.
