1999 JEEP WJ: Carolina Driveshaft Swap Part 1

  • October, 2015. The IRO 6.5" Premium suspension lift made the stock front driveshaft incompatible. Carolina Driveline makes a Jeep WJ specific front driveshaft (or drive axle) compatible with different lift heights. The driveshaft swap revealed more maintenance issues which I was forced to deal with before the project could be completed.

    Put on low gear as he said on both sides 4x4 along with wheel tire blocks on both sides back n front ,either all four tire wheels , air compressor , works fast, put also a plumbers vise crib wrench will help , also a metal pole for breaker bar will work perfect

    For all pain in the butt hexagon filler plugs you can replace them all with plugs that have an external fitting 4 point head external that can be tightened and loosened with wrench, socket etc. No stripping. I removed all hexagon plugs that usually strip with the easy wrench type!!

    The line of grease can come from the cv axel bearing packing when a cv goes out it becomes in balanced and flings its grease

    • @TheTSFChannel
      @TheTSFChannel  2 года назад

      Wouldn't a CV axle spray grease perpendicular of the axle instead of across the drive shaft?

    • @papaschuette
      @papaschuette 2 года назад

      @@TheTSFChannel Just my 2 cents. The dark line going perpendicular to the driveshaft is probably just the grease getting flung around when the rubber boot tore. It started as a little tear and then it disappeared completely. If it was because of the seal leaking, you would still see it leaking. Just what I saw replacing the driveshaft on my 2000 WJ. Before I go through it again, I'm gonna do the same and go with a SLE. And get rid of the dumbest front driveshaft I've ever encountered.

    Silly Q's does at+4 work as a replacement of tcase fluid? Thanks, cool video I have a l6 99 wj and rzeppa crapped out on me! What was the length of the new drive shaft? Thanks again

    • @TheTSFChannel
      @TheTSFChannel  Год назад

      On T-case fluid, the answer is: It depends. Check the forums for a consensus. Here's one:
      www.jeepforum.com/threads/what-type-of-fluid-in-the-transfer-case.196927/
      As far as the drive shaft length, again, it depends. Is your Jeep lifted? The websites should have a calculator that determines stock length for your platform and then any additions due to lift height, etc.

    funny how the 4 quarts were 10 a piece=40.00 but a gallon (4 quarts) cost 60.00 plus.... wtf.

      To the original post..... 4 years ago this fluid was much much cheaper then now. Cheapest I can get now is $16 each from Amazon and the dealer wants $27 each.
      4 years ago everything was cheap like gas was $3.00 a gallon now its $5.50 a gallon. That tractor fluid is actually cheaper now to buy this. My suggestion is don't look at prices of things 4 years ago and compare them to what they cost now as it's inefficient.

      Call and ask. Then let us know, back here. They may have direct replacements for the OEM driveshafts.

    • @TheTSFChannel

      Depends on your transfer case. 242, 247, etc. Search for Jeep WJ transfer case seal, front or rear.

    If you want to learn mechanics ' buy a jeep' lol. Great to work on and fantastic when they work right. Why didn't they put all this great stuff on when it was built? To bring the mechanic's out of us all, thanks jeep...😂

      My WJ is all wheel drive, so yes

    • @Jboost412
      @Jboost412 2 года назад

      Yeah it’s a stronger drive shaft then the factory Rzeppa some of the V8 WJs 99-02 had the DC already then 02-04 they usually always have the Double so that’s the easiest or cheapest way let’s say to remove the anemic Rzeppa shaft but if your not out hardcore wheeling or lifted beyond 4”s the zeppa usually isn’t an issue but it’s better to be safe then sorry so ditch it in my opinion….the earlier ZJ grands also have a DC shaft you can pop in your WJ that had a zeppa shaft

      Sorry. This was published over 2 years ago. I recommend this website: wjjeeps.com/ for proper vocabulary and part nouns for your research, and jeepforum.com for how-tos and advice. Websites and resources are throughout the series. I bought parts online and at Pep-Boys, AutoZone and NAPA. Let us know how it goes!
