I think that the quintessential Chevy Chase movie is Fletch. That movie plays to all of Chase's strengths that he was so popular for when he was on Saturday Night Live. If you liked Beverly Hills Cop, I think you'll like Fletch. The score of that movie was created by the same guy who did it for Beverly Hills Cop, Harold Faltermeyer. I recommend it.

I always crack up when he punches the moose in the face. Dark humor was a National Lampoon staple, but in general, comedies were a lot more loose in the 80s, and people were a lot less afraid to laugh at taboo subjects.

The Chevy Chase Vacation movies are all hilarious in their own ways (haven't seen the new one). They have a strange chronology, as the kids are older in European Vacation (85) than in Christmas Vacation (89), but the ever changing Rusty & Audrey become a running joke fairly quick (possibly due to Clark repeatedly forgetting Audrey's name 😅).
For some underrated Chevy Chase - Memoirs of an Invisible Man (92) and Spies Like Us (85)

7:00 - Supermodel Christie Brinkley. Also, the music in this scene was originally "I'm so excited".
20:30 - The music when they're running toward the park is Chariots of Fire, from the movie of the same name.
    The "Vacation" franchise;
    Vacation (1983)
    European Vacation (1985)
    Christmas Vacation (1989)
    Vegas Vacation (1997)
    Vacation (2015)
    There's also a TV movie;
Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure (2003)
Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo star in the first four films, and make a small appearance in the fifth. Randy Quaid Appears in the first, third and fourth films, as well as Christmas Vacation 2, which does NOT have Chase and D'Angelo.
Finally, there's also a short promotional video called Hotel Hell Vacation which has Chase and D'Angelo reprising their roles when they get booked into a super-tiny hotel room. It's on RUclips if you want to see it.

“National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983)” was the first in the Griswald family vacation series. It was followed by “National Lampoon’s European Vacation (1985)”, then came “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)”, and then ending with “National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation (1997)’”. All four movies have Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo reprise their roles of Clark and Ellen Griswald but the children Rusty and Audrey are played by different actors in each movie.
There is also a probably less known second National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation movie called ,, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation 2 Eddie”s Island Adventure”, an apparent squeal to the original Christmas Vacation movie that went straight to video upon its release, that centers on the character of Cousin Eddie and his family. Dana Barron who played the original Audrey Griswald is the only Griswald family member to be seen in the movie.
There is also a 2015, “National Lampoon’s Vactation” remake/reboot of the original simply title “Vacation” that centers around a grown up Rusty Griswald (played by Ed Helms), his wife Debbie (played by Christina Applegate), and their two boys who revisit Rusty’s original family trip out west to Wally World. Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo reprising their original roles make guest appearances in the remake/reboot as Clark and Ellen Griswald once again. There is even a cameo from The Old Family Truckster station wagon.
There are a number of other National Lampoon movies but the previously mention are the ones that center on Griswalds and or other extend Griswald family members.

Never apologize for not knowing something. It's the willfully ignorant that need to apologize. As long as you desire to learn and grow you're fine.
Back in summer of 71, My step father loaded us all into a car very much like the on in this movie. The passengers were, him, my mom, me, e sisters, 2 brothers, a cousin and a step brother. We were going from Dayton, Ohio to Tampa, Florida to get his mother who as it turned out was very large, cranky and hated me on sight for reasons I never understood.
The trip down was horrible but a piece of cake compared to the trip back. It marked the beginning of the end of a happy childhood. A year later we moved to Alabama. This is a big reason why upon graduation from high school in 74, I joined the Navy and got as far from that mess as I could.
This movie reminds me a lot of those times but it's a lot funnier and no one died physically on the trip. just spiritually.

The woman in the Ferrari was 1980s supermodel Christie Brinkley. She would later marry rock star Billy Joel, even appearing in several of his music videos, "Uptown Girl" being the first.
"Holiday Road" was by Lindsay Buckingham, one of his solo efforts away from the band Fleetwood Mac.
The director of this was the late Harold Ramis, who also acted in movies. In front of the camera he was in 'Ghostbusters' (which he co-wrote) and 'Stripes' with Bill Murray. He also directed 'Groundhog Day' and 'Caddyshack'.

National Lampoon’s Animal House is one of my favorite films, and was voted the #1 funniest film of the 20th century. Admittedly, there are some gags that wouldn’t fly today, they are certainly crass and offensive, but it takes place in the 50s and I think if you go into it expecting college age boys from that time period being drunken asses who are at least fun rather than stuffy, you’ll get the humor.

Dark and raunchy at times, but the reason Vacation and Christmas Vacation work so well is that they also have genuine heart. The other Vacation movies not so much.

This was a favorite of mine in high school. I would watch it all the time. I love the scene when he loses it and starts to snap at his family.
Christmas Vacation is even better than this one, but the other two European Vacation and Vegas Vacation are just sub-par.

National Lampoon was a humor magazine that started in the early '70s and it was known for offensive, irreverent humor. They also had a radio show in the '70s with a lot of the actors who were later in the very first cast of SNL. The first National Lampoon movie was Animal House, which is about a college frat.

Foul play and Seems like old times with Goldie Hawn. Under the Rainbow with Carrie Fisher. Funny Farm. Fletch. Caddyshack. Spies like us with Dan Akroyd. Deal of the century. Bunches of sequels and like a dozen of watchable flicks. He was the first of the SNL alumni to jump to the big screen. I've got a frickin book here and nothing on this movie. It brought back memories of vacations when I was a kid. We didn't kill any family members or pets but the sentiment is there. Good times. Great job Jen.

National Lampoon has been associated with over 40 movies starting with Animal House (1978). They also have more than a few TV shows (I didn't count them). They do push many boundaries edginess of the era each film is made. Many are great, though there are plenty that pretty much "sock." The best include Christmas Vacation, Loaded Weapon 1 (spoof of Lethal Weapon), Van Wilder, & Animal House. The balance are pretty much based on your taste (very few are average or better, but they are fun to watch). Vacation is rather tame in comparison to most of their affiliated movies.

Pets don't fare too well in any of the Vacation movies...
Christmas Vacation is a must see, but definitely at Christmas time. It's arguably the best of the series
European Vacation and Vegas Vacation are a step down from the other 2 Vacation movies but they are still a lot of fun and I recommend them.
    Other great Chevy Chase movies:
    Caddyshack
    Fletch
    Funny Farm
    Three Amigos
    Spies Like Us
And my controversial opinion...Memoirs of an Invisible Man. It's an action adventure movie and not a comedy and critics and audiences hate it, but I love it.
    Best Regards!

Interesting notes: Chevy Chase was a regular character on the TV show "Community," and Anthony Michael Hall was a guest star in Season 1 Episode 12. Anthony Michael Hall isn't a kid anymore! Also, I finally looked up where they filmed the so-called Kansas farm scenes: 20 miles outside of Pueblo, Colorado, where you can see a mountain in the distance.

The "National Lampoon," was a humor/satire/parody magazine for adults that had influence in the early to mid 70's. The magazine had a cover that is iconic-"If you don't buy this magazine, we will kill this dog." As a young man in college in the early 80's I subscribed for a year, but by then it was soft porn with very sporadic interesting parody.

Although Wally world is a fictional amusement park, the shots inside Wally world were filmed at six flags magic mountain. The Screamy Meamy roller coaster is actually The Collossus and the Whipper snapper (with the loop) is actually The Revolution, both of which I've ridden in the 80's when they looked just as they did in the film.
Yeah, I'm an old guy. 😆

Jen you do fantastic reactions! A couple of fun facts about this movie. Chevy hates roller coasters. If you watch him in those scenes he is hating every moment of it. Also Imogene Coca (Aunt Edna) was a comic and pretty funny in real life. She felt bad and nervous about being so mean in the movie. Keep up the great channel.

The Griswolds' Vacation movies are an guilty pleasure.
One of the most profitable comedy franchise ever, nearly $300 mil worldwide.
I mostly loved the first 2 films.
2 of the films, Vegas Vacation (1997) and Vacation (2015) were surprisingly successful when most critics were predicting failure.
Like this franchise was not as funny as it use to be.
Btw, a Griswolds' original series is being developed for HBO Max and will premiere during the 2022-2023 season.
Johnny Galecki, who played Rusty in Christmas Vacation and starred on The Big Bang Theory is executive producer.

Chevy Chase was part of the original SNL (Saturday Night Live) cast. He started Weekend Update, which he always began with "Good evening, I'm Chevy Chase and you're not".
A must-watch Chevy Chase movie: The Three Amigos!, starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Chevy Chase. One of the most beloved 80s comedies, I think.
The name National Lampoon used to really confuse me. The name was a spinoff of a really old publication at Harvard U, called The Harvard Lampoon which started in the late part of the 1800s. National Lampoon was started by a couple of Harvard students in 1970. First as a magazine, like MAD magazine but more adult, then came The National Lampoon Radio Hour, as well as comedy albums, then finally the movies.
Along with Vacation and Christmas Vacation, the most widely known NL movie is Animal House. Another favorite of mine was National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1, which starred Emilo Estevez and Samuel L. Jackson just before his breakthrough role in Pulp Fiction.
