  • The opportunities for jokes here are endless...so much so that at points I had difficulty filming because I was laughing so much at myself!!! So, to that I say "enjoy" and "you're welcome" lol
    Ruby, the hubby's 1962 beetle needs a hood seal and the E-brake is sprung so that needs to get fixed also...and I do that without unhooking the cables or backing them off...it CAN be done...maybe not as easily BUT definitely the fastest way, just takes a bit of patience!

    Love that you posted the string tip. It’s the only way to install a non-German seal. I only use the German seals with the long tips to avoid that problem. I have a video on my channel but will be including a link to yours as well. The seal channel shouldn’t need to be opened up unless someone has altered it. Also, WD40 is the best lubricant for this job.

    • @marcijunebug
      @marcijunebug  3 года назад

      I use the thread trick for lots of different applications...good thing to keep in the tool bag! I always clear the channel and open it a bit to just make the job a bit easier and remove any possible debris that might be in it...I find plain ole beeswax works well too, but WD is just as good as anything I guess...as long as the job gets done!

    So I just replaced my seal on my 1970 beetle, and needed to make an adjustment as well for closure on my hood, by increasing length of spring on the handle corrected my problem, hope this helps someone out there. Thanku for the well documented video

    • @marcijunebug
      @marcijunebug  2 года назад

      yes we've had to adjust this one a few times to get it just right! I also just made a plasma cut hood for this one that we swap out for "special occasions" (link below) and so it is adjusted differently...as you know with a VW always "tweaking" some bolt or another! Thanks for stopping in, I appreciate it!

    nice trick with the string, as far as the e brake being too high, if you back off on the cables and remove those spacers that someone put in it will allow the arms inside the brake drums to relax back, then you can adjust the rear brakes much better. then you will notice that it takes much less ebrake cable up by the lever and you can adjust it to about 5 clicks, then over time as the ebrake gets higher you will know its time to adj the brakes again, also you will notice that the brake pedal will be much higher too as the wheel cylinders are all the way closed when not pressed, but when the ebrake is pulling some the wheel cylinders have to traval some too fill the gap caused by the ebrake lever. great job on the video,

    Hey you have the whole crew following you along lol. Love the patina on ruby, thought to ask you... What was your plan and what materials did you use to make her age show through. I like how its not overly glossy. I have been thinking in the future of how to bring misty to show her colors.

    • @marcijunebug
      @marcijunebug  5 лет назад +1

      E-man Deluxe the main body of Ruby was all original patina...all the fenders and lower hood I did with 3 varied shades of red from walmart😂 then sanded randomly between coats and then wet sanded with 1000 grit on final coat to have control when my dark layer started coming through I could control and stop when it got to where I wanted it...then sanded several areas down to bare metal and used hydrogen peroxide mixed with salt and vinegar to rust them...we used glossy paint but then wet sanded everything at the end to get a dull look closer to the original patina. Then 3 coats of wax and buff

    • @marcijunebug
      @marcijunebug  5 лет назад +1

      One thing I would recommend is maybe putting a grey primer down first...vw used grey...so then once you get down to that layer you know will blend pretty well with the original car if it is down to that...love ole Misty! Good luck! It’s gonna look great! Just pick a fender or area and play around with it!

    Where the seal meets in front. Do you ot glue it together ?

    • @marcijunebug
      @marcijunebug  2 года назад +1

      you CAN glue it, but you can also use a soldering iron or plastic welder and kind of melt them together. Another option and the one I used on this car is I slightly overlapped them then took a straight screw driver and hit the metal bead tight with a "divet" at the overlap spot!
