    Out of the most recent fifty videos on your channel, seems to be 8 are directly addressing the Ranch Hand name. One was a "Come get free stuff" video. One was a "How It's Made" manufacturing video, and you address the Ranch Hand products in separate videos for each of the big three, Ford, GM, & RAM. I'll have to say, IMHO, that is very acceptable. They are a SPONSOR; product placement is a given. I don't hear someone complaining that you give no attention to standard travel trailers because every trailer we see in a video is a FIFTH WHEEL. RUclips is a smorgasbord of free entertainment. As we see at many all-you-can-eat buffets, there's always going to be the person who likes the pickled beets, and one who voices the opposite opinion of how he doesn't. As for the BTBRV channel, I'm personally, going to belly up and enjoy.

      Big Truck Big RV hello there, I have a 1999 Ford F-150 and I was wondering does ranch hand make a grill guard like yours on your F-450, for a 1999 F-150? Your videos are great and this video really makes me feel like I need a Ranch Hand grill guard for my truck. Thanks, and keep the great videos coming.

      @@kronos0848 That's the point. Modern vehicles are designed so that in the event of a catastrophic front end impact, the mounts break and the engine and transmission are pushed down and back under the vehicle instead of coming into the passenger compartment.

    So, Ranch Hand is naïve enough to be going with this person's logic that it was the Ranch hand bumper that saved his life and not the truck's design?
    Also 3:19 "The whole motor would have come and crushed my legs at least, had I not had my Ranch Hand in there", no offense to the survivor(glad he is safe and sound) but the logical premise of the person's explanation for the reason of his survival is hilarious. He thinks that the engine would break through the firewall of his truck and crush his legs.
    Dude, these trucks are not just about priding over your c-channel frame thicknesses and towing capacity, a lot of thought and a ton of engineering goes into deciding the panel sheet thicknesses and its geometry at the PD Team of your manufacturer(I believe GM in this case).
    As far as the bumper is concerned, it was just bolted to the frame of the truck and it did not act as a barrier between the passenger and the engine/rest of the substructure. All it does is transfer all the energy of the crash 'AS IS' to the rest of the structure of the truck with hardly absorbing any of it, owing to its high structural strength.
    The point that I'm trying to make here is not against Ranch Hand, but the stupid logic that "Ranch Hand's product saved my life' is total BS, there's more to it and can be understood through basic physics and engineering concepts.
    When the vehicle fell into the drop and hit ground, a large portion of the Kinetic Energy of the vehicle(0.5*mass of vehicle*square of velocity) would be needed to be converted to other form(Mostly deformation of the corresponding part of vehicle that collided first and a lot of heat as well). In this case, had this guy been using the OEM bumper, that thing would have contributed as a sink for the vast amounts of KE by 'Plastic Deformation' of the bumper, thereby resulting in a lot lesser energy being transferred from the impact to the rest of the vehicle. Therefore there is a reason why the stock OEM bumpers are made out of composites or ABS/PA6 materials via injection molding and not 0.5" thick steel welded together, just for aesthetics.
    While it is incorrect to assume that the Ranch hand bumper would not have deformed at all but the plastic deformation would have been a lot lesser and therefore the energy absorbed far much lesser than the OEM bumper, making the vehicle occupant more susceptible to life threatening injuries. Of course in this case that didn't happen because he had ROPS(Roll over protection system), FOPS(Fall over protection system)/seat belts and other SRS(secondary restraint systems) such as airbags and maybe also because he was plain lucky.
    Engineers at OEMs like GM/Ford/FCA/Toyota are not fools, if it had been so much about safety, you would see these things factory fitted. Plonk one of these on a truck and try clearing a NCAP frontal impact test, that would never happen. For this reason even a lot of OEMs discourage customers from using Bullbars or custom bumpers. In a nutshell, bumpers are meant to deform and break when they hit something, that's their primary purpose. While using these things(aftermarket bumpers), you protect your truck from minor scratches, you do it at the cost of your own and the co-passenger's safety.
    Therefore, while its okay to endorse a product if you like it, but spreading misinformation amongst general public based out of your whims and fancies is not cool. Expecting better content from your channel, based out of logic.

    • @nilay.k.srivastava
      @nilay.k.srivastava 7 лет назад +7

      Thanks, though sadly most of the people here will not understand that most often these things are 95% about aesthetics(BTW I don't find them good looking) and less than 5% about functionality/safety.

    • @cjeam9199
      @cjeam9199 7 лет назад +9

      Nilay Srivastava I don't necessarily agree. Take for example the small overlap impact test the IIHS performs: a truly solid crossmember at the front of the vehicle, such as the ranch hand bumper provides, will better transfer the impact across into both sides of the frame (which is the crash structure). There is an argument that having such a large piece of metal hanging out there in front of the crash structure will reduce the chances of non-crushing components, like the engine, coming into the passenger compartment. Manufacturers will obviously do this with their OEM bumpers too, but they are also concerned about cost, aesthetics, weight and critically pedestrian impact safety. These aftermarket bumpers have zero concern towards mitigating the impact for the person that you hit, which is great to protect you. Your liability in a collision with a pedestrian or cyclist where you are at fault may (arguably correctly) be dramatic however since you are going to cause far more severe injuries to them than an OEM bumper would.

    • @nilay.k.srivastava
      @nilay.k.srivastava 7 лет назад +3

      cjeam The engine along with the transmission is never considered to be one solid 'non-crushable mass, though it looks like one. In many cases in vehicles with transverse engines, the powertrain is considered to be a huge factor while protecting you. If you go and have a look at the engine bay of a totaled vehicle that has had a really bad front impact, you'll understand that. A lot of manufacturers take into account the energy absorption from the engine while performing crash simulations in a virtual environment, but that's another point entirely.
      Your statement would have been valid had the materials being used in the Ranch Hand bumper vs the OEM bumper been similar in terms of their mechanical properties. But that's clearly not the case, on the hand there is a whole world of difference between the two. You can see that for yourself by simply performing an FEA on the two bumpers with their respective mechanical properties, with similar boundary conditions in terms of DOF, Forces and constraints. You would see that the net displacement of the OEM bumper for a given force to be vastly higher than that of the Ranch Hand, not only because of the material properties but also because of the Ranch Hands's exorbitantly overdesigned geometrical attributes. So technically, the point is that if you say that bumper better transfers the impact to the side fenders/crumple zones, you don't need a ranch hand to do it, the OEM bumper will fare even better(assuming that in either cases, bumper took the impact first).
      As far as cost is concerned, FYI the Capital Investment for an Injection molding shop is very much higher than it would take you for setting up a facility to make these after market bumpers. That cost does reflect into the product, we don't notice it because of the high volumes the OEMs make vs the vastly lesser volume of these smaller manufacturers.
      I completely agree with you on the point of pedestrian safety, I missed that while making my previous point. But all in all it swings the needle even more in favor of the OEM bumper.

      its a simple matter of physics, you get going fast enough and you can push an engine through to sub frame. i've heard of semis hitting cows going down the road and the big diesel engine getting pushed through the frame of the truck

      If im going to go 75 and fly down hill and slam the front of my vehicle, id rather have a grill guard than just my "plastic bumper" yes I know theres a well designed energy absorption design behind it but with that much weight and speed I believe a steel bar structured to a steel frame would be able to absorb and create a barrier between the engine and the impact site, at least enough to drastically reduce impact to the rest of the engine bay.

      If you're astute, you'll notice the truck also has a lift and oversized tires. The failure could simply have been caused by an improper installation. Maybe the wheel was not correctly torqued down. There's enough quality control at the factory that a truck won't go down the assembly line with wheels falling off.

    the advertisements are perfectly fine. if the subscribers go back to the the first video of the bumper you gave a few criticisms about the bumper. you criticising a product you advertise is a plus. because it shows "hey i love this product but before you buy this is my few things i wish they could improve on" doing a fine job.
    hell if i had a youtube channel and was sponsored by general motors and a beer company id do the same thing

    dont wanna sound like an expert but wouldnt road armor, iron cross, fusion, move bumpers and so on be as effective as ranch hand since they are made of the same material? they arent random cheap junk bumpers tho, or does it have to be necessarily a ranch hand to "save your life"?

      Γαλανομάτα Χρυσαυγίτισσα: I don't disagree. Any substantial brace that transfers impact to the frame and away from the grill would probably yield similar results. in his case he was using a Legend bumper with the schedule 40 pipe which added to that structure up front. Really any bumper of similar construction should perform as well. The biggest problem with many other brands is though they look similar on the surface, the metal thickness is sometimes much less. Not all, but some

    I have a Ranch Hand (BRUSH GUARD) on my Ford F150 and I got hit on the driver side fender and the brush guard took out my hood, if I would not have had it I wound not have had to replace my hood, dam body shop charged the insurance for a new one and they straightened the old one and the paint on the hood is being brushed off at the car wash, but I like the look of it but can't push a bicycle with it.

    This is interesting, it's not necessarily what I thought would happen in a crash with a bumper like this. It'd be fascinating to get some empirical data on crashes with ranch hand bumpers, perhaps subjecting them to the IIHS small overlap test to see how they perform.
    It's significant however that these sort of bumpers will cause far more severe injuries than an OEM one if you ever hit a pedestrian. I would personally argue you don't have much business driving around urban areas if you have anything like this fitted.

    I love your videos so sorry to be critical. Decades of engineering over crumpling zones, seat belts, and air bags are just forgotten in the background. This guy "feels" like the motor would of crushed him so it "saved" his life. A better video would of been a statistical analysis of crash survivability of trucks with and without ranch hands (which probably doesn't exist). Don't get me wrong whenever I want to buy a Ranch Hand I'm going to show my wife this guys testimony so it can do what this testimonial is designed to do. Sell Ranch Hands by playing to your fears. Maybe you can appease your critics by doing a video on how Ranch Hands will sometimes total a truck by bending the frame instead of just the front end in a accident.

  • @jamesezell2000
    @jamesezell2000 6 лет назад +1

    Having a sponsor means putting their products out front. I've been going through your videos and there is a bit of commercialization, but it's expected. I have watched your viewpoints change being able to watch everything in a condensed timeframe. In one video, you were all for the Timbren SES and was against airbags, but once it was a "sponsored" item, you jumped on board. Unfortunately, it shows a jaded opinion in reviews. I watch this channel because there are some interesting products that you review. I can't get my hands on it so watching the installs and such help me form an opinion, but your actual review of these products has now been left by the wayside.

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  6 лет назад +1

      I love Timbrens and Airlift equipment. Timbrens are great for anti squat. Airlift levels the ride. My opinion during my Timbren video was based on me believing a passive system reduces the risk of failure and never have owning a Airlift system. My Airlift system is great at leveling my truck to prevent headlight glare. Just like my viewers, I learn new things as well. Full disclosure, neither company asked for a good review, paid me anything OR Sponsors(ed) me ever. FACT. My only sponsor is Ranch Hand Bumpers, which is a product I stand by, unless they downgrade in quality.

    Looks like a pretty good product to me. Not sure if it's just the bumper that saved him though, GM trucks are pretty tough (I'm going to get all kinds of flak for that one). But I personally don't see any problem with having them as a sponsor. If it helps your video creation, more power to ya.
