"I didn't agree to this. I didn't sign up for it. I came in for a reaction, not a life evaluation!" The Moody Blues just hit different. Bless your soul, Leo. You are one honest dude.

"Just what you want to be, you will be in the end"
that line always gets me.
You missed the best part:
"Breathe deep the gathering gloom...
Watch lights fade from every room...
Bed sitter people look back and lament.
Another days useless energy spent.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one...
Lonely man cries for love and has none...
New mother picks up and settles her son.
Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold hearted orb that rules the night...
Removes the colors from our sight...
Red is gray and yellow white.
But we decide which is right.
And which is an illusion."
There's a Groove Armada version of Pink Floyd's "Breathe" that uses 'breathe deep' from that as a sample. My dad was big into Moody Blues so I caught the sample pretty quick.
Yes! I was hoping you would react to the long version.
Yea what they said.
Only poem I ever memorized, lol
And I love that that poem was written by the drummer
The Moody blues decided to explore rock music with an orchestral accompaniment. This is the result.
Muse (my fav band of all times ) did that too...
Good taste... watch “New Horizons” by Moody Bs

Electric Light Orchestra and Moody Blues both from Birmingham, England.
One of my all time favorite albums!
@@abroquet2189 Electric Light Orchestra were "influenced" by them. Justin Hayward was to "them" what Peter Cetera was to Chicago. He wrote countless hits for The Moody Blues who were originally a Blues Band. Justin replaced Denny Laine who joined Wings. Their Songs are still the most popular.
The lead singer, Justin Hayward, was 19 when he wrote this. He’s 75 now and still singing on tour! No orchestra. I was blessed to see him live this year. The man can still sing!!
Actually, he wrote it in HS at 17. According to Justin himself.
Man, this is definitely the most beautiful song I've ever heard in all my life. This part of the choir always gives me deep chills, for me it's like a legion of angels singing the earth's sorrow in a painful heavenly way. The first time I heard this, I had to control myself.
What a beautiful analogy.
This song has such heartache for me personally. My good friend, committed suicide, he absolutely loved this song. I talked to him the day, they found his body, never realizing he was going to commit suicide that day. This song was playing when they discovered his body. Just wish I knew, he was suffering so much. Man suicide is not the answer. Please if you are down, felling depressed, please talk to family, a friend anyone, just get help. I miss my friend every minute of everyday. I will always, have his great memories to cherish. RIP - FRIEND.

It was poetry in motion ☮💖
Laying back in a pitch black room with headphones on is the way to soak this song in. Beautiful masterpiece!

This is one of those songs that no matter how old, it hits you really deep and you can't help getting emotional. No explanation of why it happens, it just does.
I think this one is emotional because it speaks to things we all crave; understanding, acceptance and love.
This song is beautiful and it touches deep down into your soul. If you lay back, headphones on and eyes closed, you'll see your heaven.
Yes you will!❤️
Hey this is Russell, commenting from my daughters account, Damn, I'm old this was our senior prom song, back in 1974.

The song is haunting
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That's the exact words for this song!
Band member Justin Hayward wrote and composed the song at age 19 and titled the song after a girlfriend gave him a gift of satin bedsheets. The song itself was a tale of a yearning love from afar, which leads many aficionados to term it as a tale of unrequited love endured by Hayward.
One of those timeless tunes...you could play this for anyone from any time(past, present, future) and they would feel it.
Music is the universal language of emotion.
Clicked so fast on this one. I used to listen to this song all the time when I was in high school. Yes, I know I'm dating myself. lol Older than dirt right here and proud of it
You have finally gone down the Moody Blues rabbit hole!!! They're brilliant!!!
You have to listen to this entire album from start to finish, it's like a magical story.
That album, 'Days of Future Passed', was the genesis of the entire field known as Progressive Rock. Absolutely revolutionary at the time.

One of the most beautiful songs ever, that touches the inner soul. 4 Of the Moody's could sing lead and backup. The high voices in the background, that was them.
One of the greatest bands ever. “Days of Future Passed” is iconic
You think you’re moody now, there is a long version of this song
with a poem reading. Would love to hear Tuesday Afternoon, the extended

once freaked out my friend with the poem part of it, we were in middle school and my mom was driving us to the movies. We were all three in the cab of the truck, and the poem part started and my mom and i started reciting it, staring straight ahead, and then I turn and look at my friend and she had this "WTF, let me out of here" look on her face.

The entire Seventh Sojourn album. Not a bad track on it
This is one of the greatest songs of all time, from one of the best albums of all time. They recorded the album with an orchestra. However, this is the radio single edit, the full version has much more orchestration after the main song, and then there is a spoken word poem with more even orchestration afterwards until the end. This song is just one of those masterpieces! My husband took me to see the lead singer Justin Hayward in concert on our first date because he knew I was a fan! 😉 Needless to say, he won my heart, and we were married a little over a year later! And I’m still a huge Moody Blues fan!
When you look directly into the camera, you show a bit of your true heart, and it's beautiful..
Every now and again a truly great song appears out of the ether. Now and again a classy tune grabs the ears of millions. It's rare that both marks are hit at the same time.
Oh you young people. White satin is referring to white satin sheets. It was a thing back then, luxury sheets. (They do feel good btw) The singers girlfriend gave him a set as a present. Thus the inspiration for the song. Unknowingly she gave us all the present. Thank you to her, whoever she is. Btw he was 19 when he composed this song...Listen to long version to hear the true God given talent of that young man.

Justin Hayward is such an underrated singer, so talented and lets be honest, he was super good looking in 1967...
This one came out the year before I was born. Heard it on the radio a lot growing up. Back when you had to actually have talent to make it in music, not just auto-tune garbage. Brings back a lot of memories.

Tuesday Afternoon - Moody Blues LONG version. Incredible journey. 8 :30 minutes. Brilliant!
My late mother and father had this album, and played it often. The year after Mom passed away, I played the complete album, and cried a river.
I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our mom, one year ago. This song just brings so many great memories, of our wonderful life with mom and dad. I lost a great friend to suicide, when they found him, this song was playing on the stereo. He adored the moody blues, especially this song. RIP- MOM, DAD, RICHARD. My mom played this a lot when i was a small child. That song, and "Tuesday Afternoon" by
The Moody Blues reminds me of my early childhood in a very intense, and nostalgic way.
So glad you can appreciate that song.
Justin Hayward, the main singer, wrote this song when he was 19. The high falsetto is sung by John Lodge, the other vocalist with the curly hair on the left. Ray Thomas is the flautist, vocalist and founding member of the Moody Blues, who has since passed away.. RIP Ray. The Moodies are one of my favorite groups; I have seen them in concerts many times. xx
I am a hard-core Elvis fan but nights in white satin is my all time favorite song. It takes me to my safest place. A small child in bed at night listening to the radio as I drift off to sleep. It's beautiful, it's sad, it's moving.
The Moody Blues was my first rock concert. Stevie Ray Vaughn opened for them. Other favorites of mine are "Ride My Seesaw," "Tuesday Afternoon," and "Question."
You need to let us know if you are going to do Unboxing again. I have the PERFECT gift for you, but I need to see your face when you open it.
And of course, my daily request: "La Fiesta" by Maynard Ferguson, studio version please.
That must have been fantastic. I'm jealous.
I saw them in '87, at Saratoga. The Fixx opened for them. Everyone was sitting there bored until the MB's showed up. The crowd surged to their feet and never sat down. Of course by that time they'd been around long enough to have die-hard fans.
What a great first concert!
I'm not a Moody Blues expert, but I think their first 4 albums are the core of moody blues.
This song means so much to me, and your reaction to it is why I love to watch you! Keep it up, Leo! We adore you!
The amount of sadness in some of their songs defies physics. It just pulls at your heart. This one always gets me. And also, "Go Now" I discovered them myself about 25 years ago when my older brother took me to my first show. So amazing to see you discovering this, and loving it. You have a lot waiting for you, my friend, and I'm excited for you! Their catalog is diverse, eclectic, and wonderful. Cheers :)
And they’re still performing!!! Rest In Peace Ray Thomas. Love them and they had so many good songs.

Take your pick: "Tuesday Afternoon", "I'm Just A Singer in A Rock and Roll Band", "The Voice" "I Know You're Out There Somewhere", "Wildest Dreams, "Question" - all greats!
Veteran Cosmic Rocker
I loved your honest reaction. Justin Hayward (the lead singer) wrote this when he was 19 years old after his girlfriend left him. She had bought him white satin sheets and he wrote about how he felt lying in bed covered with those sheets. You should react to their songs 'The Voice' and 'Question', but they will also make you reevaluate your life.
what a great reaction Leo my man. I can tell you were truly moved, as most everybody is with this song. I would suggest "Tuesday afternoon"
The album that this song is from is called "Days of Future Passed" - It is a true "concept album" (as most of the Moody Blues albums were in those years). It is also one of the earliest examples of what would become known as "Progressive Rock" (or simply "Prog") The concept being that the album takes the listener through a metaphorical "day".
The tracks on the record are:
"The Dat Begins"
"Dawn: Dawn Is A Feeling"
"Morning: Another Morning"
"Lunch Break: Peak Hour"
"The Afternoon/Evening:: Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?)/Evening: Time To Get Away"
"Evening:: The Sunset/Twilight Time"
"The Night: Nights In White Satin/Late Lament/Resolvement"
"Days Of Future Passed" is one of those albums I strongly recommend that you grab yourself your best headphones, roll a couple of "J's" and just let the music tell you it's story. The whole thing is less than 45 minutes and you will never regret the time spent. I am sure of that, my friend.
The album was originally released in the fall of 1967. One of the most creative, productive and influential periods in the history of recorded music. 1967 was the same year that The Jimi Hendrix Experience debuted with "Are You Experienced?" and dropped "Axis: Bold As Love" on the world. The Doors would release their first record and The Beatles relased two of the greatest records ever tecorded: "Magical Mystery Tour" as well as "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", what might just be the most important, most influential rock music album ever. There was a lot more to '67 than just "the summer of love".
Here's a suggestion, a bit more upbeat but every bit as deep and thought provoking - "Departure/Ride My Seesaw"
