I tried exogenous ketones before achieving nutritional ketosis. I loved the way I felt when taking them and that feeling really pushed me to do my first extended fast which drove my body to makes its own. I’ve been in an almost constant state of ketosis since. Down 40# type 2 diabetes reversed and enjoying life again.
I have used keto to heal my body through nutrition the last 5 years. I’ve lost 60lbs lowered my A1c, my triglycerides are under normal and my neuropathy in my feet has disappeared. I went from 265 now at 205. This round of keto I decided to see how ketones would affect the process. It has enabled me to stay satiated and not have cravings as I still did, even if it was mentally, on keto. It seems by experience that it has also excelled my fat loss probably because of how it increases satiety. I would love to see you do the research trials and would love to be a part of it.
After being on carnivore for a year and strict keto 6 months prior, I'm finding the only time my ketones are up is when I fast or stress my body. Usually .2 to .5 at any given morning.
I think we were eating a bit more carbs in the summer and autumn. And the rest of the year we didn’t have berries etc so we hunted, more like cerovore. At least in Sweden were I live.
I started out on cutting out the carbs but my body wasn’t used to producing ketones, so the exogenous ketones seemed to have “trained” my body to produce ketones again. I now wake with 0.6 - 2.0 ketone levels. I think I can stop taking ketones now and maintain the under 20 carbs until I’ve lost all the weight I want to lose.
Dom D’agostino. About 40 or 50 studies on ketones and exogenous ketones. You can’t find the studies if you don’t look for them. A ketogenic diet paired with exogenous ketones has show excellent outcomes.
@@sylviaking8866 Depends on you goal. Exogenous Ketones can be used to help with endurance exercise - but also with recovery from training and with sleep. Optimising the use requires careful consideration.

How about using ketones exogenously in case of mental issues like dementia? If it has effect ( on my dad who is not demented but getting old) then I have a solid argument for diet and fasting. Ok I see now you touch on the subject - and both my parents take two spoons of mct daily . Not science but let’s see
I used them whenever I go hike... I didn't need to find a bush half way through a two hour hike. So I found them good for exercise not alongside diet. I hardly exercise though...

In my experience so far, my second time trying a keto diet… when my urine strips start to show about a 4 I concurrently start feeling tired. I’ve been told the urine strips may show that I’m not great at using the ketones for fuel. I’ve tried exogenous ketones at this period of ketosis and I’ve felt a lift in mental alertness. However I think there must be a trade-off, I think I’m not great at fat burning or ketone utilization yet, my body is still building these pathways. I think the fatigue that I feel may be part of the process, if I artificially promote the goal of more mental clarity, I wonder if my body will just not build the pathways to get there by itself?

If one has diabetes, it takes longer to jump start the older body. I eat under 10 gr of carbs most days and fast 16:8 every day. Since I added ketones to diet my body has begun making a few ketones, but not many.
You need to eat under 50 grams of carbs EVERY SINGLE DAY to be in ketosis. Yes, one single meal can knock you out of ketosis and you start at 0. I hope this helps.
Are your TOTAL carbs under 10g or are you tracking NET carbs? Keeping TOTAL carbs under 20g for just about anyone will put you into nutritional Ketosis.
I am a T2D for 16 years. Started Keto 31 July this year. Total carbs 20 or under. Used exogenous ketones the first week. My ketones since that time range from 3.3 to 5.1. I was 60 libs overweight but am down 21 as of today. My morning blood sugar the last 3 weeks range from 86 to 103. That is without my diabetic meds. I haven’t been on them for 4 weeks. But this is my case. We are all different
I think I have have learned why I have been producing only a few ketones. I was taking Ozempic until just a few days before I started the Keto diet. One of the ways Ozempic works is to force the pancreas to produce more insulin. It also stays in your body for 5 weeks or so after stopping the Ozempic and continues to force greater insulin production. I have been eating Keto for 8 weeks now, and am making about .5 in ketones whenever I test. This is more than I have ever produced on my own. I am practically on a carnivore diet with the only carbs I get from cheese and eggs. I think an egg has about .6, and the cheese I like has about 1 g per oz. I literally am eating 4-6 g carbs a day. I am also not losing much weight. I was using My Fitness Pal and recently added Carb Manager to see if there was a variation in the apps. When you start reading material of some of the docs, you will see some of their diabetes patients never produce much in the way of measureable ketones.
Hi Ralph, it’s not necessary true. It is true that the longer you are in the diet the more your body will become efficient at burning fat, this may result in higher ketone numbers. We don’t focus on ketone numbers, just the restriction of carbs. Having higher ketones in the blood doesn’t equate to “more fat burning” in reality. I hope this helps.
Save your money for more important things like good quality ribeyes ! *There has been some studies under going with ppl taking Exogenous ketones in brain injury/disorders/Alzheimer’s. Not sure what the outcome of those.
Look up Dom D’agostino and his work and research on exogenous ketones. Lots of evidence that true keto diet with exogenous ketones are complimentary. By the way, keto salts in bulk work out to about 5 or 6 bucks a week.
