We used this in our church and looks great we got RGBW strips but we are wondering if it is possible to use addressable led strip to have multiple colors and same line. Please let me know
Thanks for posting this video. I have followed all the instructions step by step and when I connect to DMX the only color I can get is red. Ever had this experience before?
If I want to have a chase/waterfall effect will it depend on the dmx controller having that particular addressable function as an option or will it depend on the chip built into the LED or pixel strip? Or do both the strip and the decoder need to have that function for me to make this happen? Thank you! (I’ll be running all of my lights through a computer with a lighting interface)
Great video! I got the lights and decoder working for a single strip. Could you advise on the program settings in the decoder to add strips to other outs (out 2, out3, out 4 etc) and have individual control of each independent strip / out? I'm working with SoundSwitch, but the patching of fixtures is the same.
I'm asking the same question as Joshua below, where he asks: f you ran 8 separate LED's out of that one DMX decoder, would you have control over each fixture separately?
Great video. Super helpful. I was able to use these inside of my drums cage to light up our drummer and drum set. I am having an issue doing this. The lights work but every few seconds they flicker. Any suggestions?
Could be a power issue. Be sure you are getting consistent power output from your power supply. I had the same issue but I was using a smaller power supply. Haven’t had any flickering issues after using these.
@@colbygriner1204 I am also having the same issue. It is very strange behavior though, if I run more than one strip at full brightness, then I can fade on of them up and down with no flickering. If I put 6 strips at full brightness then I can fade up to three of them at a time with no flickering. If I just try to fade one strip (when no other strips are on) then the lights flicker.

I have the same question. I connected only 1 pair of V+ and V- but that doesn't even drive the display. The only thing I can think of is that due to the amount of current that the Decoder needs, they want to make sure that the overall diameter of the power cables is sufficient. But who knows for sure? And in the manual, they actually show 4 different power supplys with 4 wall plugs. confusing...

Hemet Assembly hey, I’m Nick! I’m a professional lighting director and programmer. I’ve used that console before. It’s really cheap for a lighting console, but if your light rig is pretty simple, I think it could get the job done. But if you have multiple fixture types, I’d recommend a different console like Obsidian Onyx (formerly Martin’s M-PC). It’s relatively inexpensive, but it’s a pro console, and it’ll stay with you through every stage of your light rig. Also, if you don’t believe me, these guys use that console for their church. 😉
I have this setup with lightKey. DMX channel 4 on the decoder with the Generic RGBW. Can’t get the lights to communicate with this box. Are there any ideas?
depends on what exactly is not working... if nothing is working try these: 1. is the direction correct: OUT on the pc/encoder/console; IN on the decoder/fixture? 2. are you sending on the channel that the decoder is trying to receive? 3. is the power on acceptable levels at the decoder? 4. Are all cables seated correctly?
Alexander LP that would be awesome, but they’re using LED tape, instead of pixel tape. So, there’s not much need for pixel mapping since there’s no individual pixel control.
you need a different kind of encoder/decoder for this... we are working on a custom chip to decode DMX to a 6m pixel rgbw strip. there are solutions in the industry but they run very fast in their limitations. Pixel mapping is not really what DMX is for :/ Most professional solutions use decoders that take video input.
I can’t find the black strips on Amazon, even with your link from the old video where you mentioned the black ones. Are they discontinued, or just not available right now? Or am I totally missing something?
consider looking at Chinese manufacturer offers: same product, way cheaper, often labeled way better. Im sure you can find a RGBW 12V 5050 LED strip just about anywhere. Chinese sites often list the power output per meter or per LED.
Did you ever have any issues when plugging into the other side of the decoder? When I connect a light strip to the other side of the decoder it stops working.
We have no experienced that issue. Double check your power and wiring from your power source. I’m sorry it’s giving you trouble. I know that’s frustrating.
Wouldn't say that the M2PC is discontinued. Certainly they don't manufacture them anymore but you can by what's nearly the exact same device as the NX Wing, which only has a few very minor differences. The actual M2PC works absolutely fine with Obsidian Onyx and is a proper onyx license unlocking all 128 universes.
Alright bro. I’ve done everything this video says…lights work, but when I try and change color, the colors won’t change to correct color. I chose a generic RGBW 8b LED fixture. I’ve tested all of the colors on the DMX Decoder and it all works great. What am I doing wrong???
Fyi....the circle has nothing to do with the grounding designation. It's the dissipating lines with the vertical slash that represent the dissipation of current back to earth ground. Thanks for a great tutorial .
Ohh my gosh. I had one do that a few years ago. I checked the wiring but it was identical to my others. I attributed it to a faulty decoder. But check the wiring to make sure everything is correct as well. I would have Amazon do a replacement for sure.

can i still do this if my LEDs are 24V DC Natural white color? I understand he did it with RGBW LED strips. Can it be done with Natural white colored strips?? please help
I believe you would be able too. How many wires are coming from your LED tape?
What is the reason for selecting 8 bit vs 16? wouldn't 16 give you more even dimming? Thanks
Colin Entner yes, 16 bit doubles the channel count, but for things like generic RGB+ fixtures, it’s kinda redundant. R + G + B = 3 channels.
Do you connect the Decoder directly to PC?
You need an interface that is compatible with your software
What software are you using?
@@WorshipLeaderHangout I want to learn QLC+ for this
How did you connect the DMX module to your board? Did you go DMX out to the board, and then DMX out from the board to the in of end encoder? What if we've got an older light board with just a DMX out on it?
That’s exactly right. DMX from your lighting board or interface to the decoder.
Would this DMX512 console work to control my lighting?
CO-Z 192 DMX 512 Stage DJ Light Controller Lighting Party Pub Night Club DJ KTV Moving Heads. found it on amazon
Ever figure this out ? I’m having the same problem
depends on what exactly is not working... if nothing is working try these:
1. is the direction correct: OUT on the pc/encoder/console; IN on the decoder/fixture?
2. are you sending on the channel that the decoder is trying to receive?
3. is the power on acceptable levels at the decoder?
4. Are all cables seated correctly?
Any luck with light key? I have the same problem.
I have the same issue as well, did anyone ever figure out what the issue was?
@@modellking yes
I have a project need your help
Could you please, make something with a madrix? like pixel mapping, that would awesome...
Pixel mapping is not really what DMX is for :/
Most professional solutions use decoders that take video input.
What encoder would I need
I can’t find the black strips on Amazon, even with your link from the old video where you mentioned the black ones. Are they discontinued, or just not available right now? Or am I totally missing something?
They could be out of stock 😕. Try seeing if that listing has a color option tab.
consider looking at Chinese manufacturer offers: same product, way cheaper, often labeled way better.
We are having the same problem, did you ever figure it out?
I don't see the jacketed wire in the description
Wouldn't say that the M2PC is discontinued. Certainly they don't manufacture them anymore but you can by what's nearly the exact same device as the NX Wing, which only has a few very minor differences.
The actual M2PC works absolutely fine with Obsidian Onyx and is a proper onyx license unlocking all 128 universes.
Very true. Thanks Thomas
What’s the name of your lighting software
We use Lightkey now. It’s amazing
Alright bro. I’ve done everything this video says…lights work, but when I try and change color, the colors won’t change to correct color. I chose a generic RGBW 8b LED fixture. I’ve tested all of the colors on the DMX Decoder and it all works great. What am I doing wrong???
Hi can you make a video on how to connect DMX2112 TO a spectrum 097? Thank you i very complicated 🙂
I have the onynx software and I can't get it to work for my lights. How do I turn the lights on with the onynx software
I will try this
Fyi....the circle has nothing to do with the grounding designation. It's the dissipating lines with the vertical slash that represent the dissipation of current back to earth ground. Thanks for a great tutorial .
When we turn on the power, the 32 512dmx decoder starts smoking. What are we doing wrong?
Ohh my gosh. I had one do that a few years ago. I checked the wiring but it was identical to my others. I attributed it to a faulty decoder. But check the wiring to make sure everything is correct as well. I would have Amazon do a replacement for sure.
Also make sure you were sent the correct power supply.
@@WorshipLeaderHangoutyes, we were sent the wrong power supply. Thank you!!
where ypu put the terminator?
