What a great video, the great thing about carbon steel skillets is once seasoned it becomes a nonstick pan without the teflon, eggs slide around as if they were on top of ball bearings. It's comparable to cast iron for searing but with 1/2 the weight. Absolutely beautiful.
"It's comparable to cast iron for searing but with 1/2 the weight." Mild steel is a little heavier than typical cast iron (7.85 g/cm3 vs. 7.3 g/cm3). The reason that steel skillets are usually lighter than cast iron ones is because they are much thinner-walled. That also means they aren't comparable to cast iron for searing, because less mass means less heat retention. However, the steel pan that this guy made is almost certainly as heavy as, or heavier than, a typical cast iron skillet of the same diameter. He started with 6mm thick steel. A typical steel skillet only has a [uniform] wall thickness of 2mm. A typical cast iron skillet has varying wall thickness of about 3mm on the sides to about 5mm on the bottom, which is pretty close to how this guy's skillet turned out.
You really outdid yourself this time. Very impressive skill set. Great video making skills, wood turning and metal working skills. The world needs more of this and less mass production made items.

I’m back rewatching this I had made my wife 2 12” skillets a 10” and a 8” egg skillet with a lid for the 12s and the 10” for Mother’s Day 😊😅 I was worried about things too remind her of work lol she loved them so the other night she takes a 12 pan to her girls night she made some kinda one skillet fajita meal . But now I have 6 requests for skillet sets my wife loves hers she just wipes it out with a paper towel and it’s clean . Only cheat I did different then you was I used my lathe too thin the sides lol but your drill press was a awesome idea . Oh and I used black walnut on the handles she bakes them in the oven even 😂 no fires 🔥 yet . Thank you Sir you are a inspiration and the best skilled master smith I’ve ever seen your mind is awesome . I’m 59 and studied with some good smithies I have made stuff that’s on the Budweiser beer wagon and buckles for the horses . I grew up around Amish culture and they don’t buy anything they trade goods for the most part it’s how I learned the craft . Mr yodder worked me like a horse but I enjoyed it every minute from hauling coal in a wheel barrow too cleaning clickers sweeping a dirt floor holding stuff turning steel in the fire that first year I made some little stuff like nails square ones too match the ones in barns . All that work I was rewarded with a couple of hammers for Christmas from him . I would not have been happier with a gold bar . Lol I still have them what a wonder life I lived with a neighbor like that . I have his anvil it’s worn very little flat but I wouldn’t ever trade it for it’s weight in gold !
Lovely pan. I didn't realize your shop so "natural." Winter projects must take a bit of determination and willpower to get started on! Merry Christmas to you and your family.😃👍

That handle, “wow “, the curly grained timber looks great! The whole project was up to your usual high standard, top job 👍.How did all that fine snow get into the workshop? I hope you and your family have a great Christmas. Regards from Down Under.
As always, thank you! It's open between the wall and the roof, between the truss/rafters, and we had a small snow storm, or windy day with snow :)

@@torbjornahman You could use old blinders to make protections for the space between the walls and the roof. That way you can open and close them as needed for proper air ventilation or winter time cover. Great admirer of you work, you have golden hands!
Just as blacksmiths have been doing for thousands of years.
I like that Torbjörn showed us where the snow came, without speaking words. Torbjörn is a craftsman of storytelling as well as a craftsman of iron!
Looks fantastic! Can't wait to see what is cooked in it in future videos!
Coming soon I hope!
A work of art that fries bacon and eggs, outstanding job Smithy!
Thanks!
Beautiful work! The birch handle is gorgeous!
One of the most beautiful utensils produced by anyone anywhere. The result is not utilitarian but dramatic art. This is another example of why I say Torb is not from this planet! Beautiful job again.
:) Not sure what to say... thank you!
As always an amazing show of craftsmanship!
Wow, good work! Fun!
Lovely pan. I didn't realize your shop so "natural." Winter projects must take a bit of determination and willpower to get started on! Merry Christmas to you and your family.😃👍
Thanks! Indeed, partly responsible for this late video... we had a very cold week here, with below -10C for a few days.
