I’m always late to any party, but I’m glad I didn’t miss this one entirely. I recently picked up a 4 inch M&P 2.0 Compact in 9mm and it is an awesome handgun. The last pistol that I was issued before retirement had been a Gen 5 Glock 17, and I had right at 20 years of experience with various Glock’s prior to getting this M&P.
I’ve got to say that this pistol is definitely a keeper. There is so much about it that I like. The overall size, nicely crowned barrel, the finish, the grip texture, the grip angle, the trigger pull, the weight/heft, the 1913 rail, the slide serrations, the method of field stripping, the beefy frame rails to include the extended subframe along the dust cover, the general aesthetics of the pistol, and even the factory sights are nice.
The only thing I am going to do to this handgun is to take a sharpie to the two white dots on the rear sight, and add an Olight PL2 Mini Valkyrie weapon light... both of which I’ve already done.
It’s still too early for me to know how well this one will do over the long haul, but right out of the box, I like this M&P 2.0 Compact better than any Glock I’ve ever had. Smith & Wesson hit a home run with this one.
In 2019, I paid $420 for this pistol, which replaced / permanently retired my nearly 10-year-old Gen3 Glock 19 as my EDC CCW in cool weather.
I have the excellent frame-mounted ambidextrous manual thumb safety version.
In contrast, I paid about $550 for my Gen3 Glock 19 almost a decade earlier.
IMHO, not only is the M&P a superior firearm to the Glock, but it's a far better value, too.
Good things! 👍
S&W got so much right with the 2.0. They knew they were onto the improvements with the Shield 45 and the Shield Performance Center.
Nice pistol. And nice job Erica glad you joined the table top review with Graham so we can hear your first impressions as well.
I never had a problem with the M&P trigger. After a few magazines a shooter should be able to adapt to any trigger.
Nice review of a great pistol.
Bjorn Ironsides Skol!
The only gun trigger i couldn't adapt to so far is the gen 4 glock
Just got mine yesterday! Can't wait to take it to the range
Congrats! Though it's an older video be sure to check our Shooting Impressions video for ammo and performance notes
I own the full size and it has become my favorite striker fired pistol. Soft shooting, great ergos, and reliable! S&W LIFETIME warranty as well. Can’t beat quality and the price
Bought my wife one a couple months ago. She loves it. Sweet shooter. Nice desktop review.
Best fitting (in my hand) pistol to come along in a long time!!!! S & W ,got this right!
Great review but I am sick of reviewers bashing the sound of trigger reset. It doesn't matter! What matters is if you can FEEL the reset. When you shoot a gun with no "ears" on you will hear ringing but feel the reset.
Zachary Sorem I agree ppl are way to picky. The sound of the trigger reset isn’t going to matter in a defense situation
Agree 100%. I rented a g19 and a M&p 2.0. The grip, sights, trigger and shooting characteristics of the M&p were better when I rented both. Here I am with my first gun ever... the M&p 2.0 4” love it
I just got my M&P9 2.0 compact 2 days ago and Instead of just 2 mags I got 3 mags....it caught me by surprise because I though glock only does that but i was so damn happy 😎
I completely agree about the front sight. My FNS9 had bigger than normal front white dot and it was a terrific touch. I can't believe more manufacturers don't do this, it reduces that "I wonder if an XSSight would help?" feeling I get more often as I get older.
One of these is on my list for sure.
Finally S&W got it right...better trigger and grip texture! Great gun, love my 3.6!
I really like how you do your videos. Never seen any by you but you are very in depth and informative, great video man!
+scud553 thank you!
good first look 👍🏽
great that you had matty try the different sizes. i have small hands and like her point of view.
great review very through.
I have this... very Nice. Good weight... smooth operating. Nothing to not like thought i probably prefer a physical Safety switch.
Did iy come with the hardcase
Bought one before Christmas, shot it after Christmas. The 2.0 is better than my Glock 19 Gen 4. Not bashing Glock but the grip ergonomics are way better than the Glock. I know where the sights are and wherever I aim it that's where the bullet go .I hate Glock sits.
Have you done a review of the subcompact? If you haven't, you should. I highly enjoy watching your reviews.
Thank you, no I don't believe we have.
If M&P had a glock styled trigger, it'd be the king of the hill. Unlike Glock, Smith listens to their customers.
As a counterpoint, I put a "Glock-style" trigger into my Shield 1.0, and I've decided I like my standard M&P 2.0 Compact's trigger better. The shape of the hinged trigger just feels more comfortable to me than the flat/safety tab trigger, and it never pinches my finger at the bottom of the trigger guard. At any rate, triggers are easy enough to change.
Ummm no. Glock style trigger is overrated. I like the hinge.
I'm a little late, but I just ordered one of these from my fav local dealer. My normal 40 cal's are too beastly for daily carry.
I wonder if that guide rode will fit the sd9?
I get mine next week 💪🏽👌
Good video Thanks for sharing gave me a great insight. 👍
solid review
Picking mine up tomorrow
Congrats
I couldn't find this gun anywhere end buying the Sd9ve for now but I really wanted this firearm
I heard that the Apex flat face trigger works wonders on this gun.
...practice with factory trigger...stop messing with triggers and mechanics on your guns...if you can shoot...you can shoot..PERIOD!!
Augustus Heyliger period
@@augustusheyliger6421 ..I agree. Just purchased a duty-sized M&P 2.0 in 40cal...can't wait to self -qualify with it!! Have not fired a 40cal pistol before. Am a wheelgun person. Looking forward to the experience! Not looking to "mod" the gun accordingly.
Hey man I’m torn between this n the bersa tp9c I know different guns between hammer fired n striker but both are in my price range which one would you keep if you could only keep one ? Thank you
Did you make a decision?
Great Great gun much better finish than any glock
S&W doesn't want people to use the trigger on the 2.0 to take off the slide, depress the deactivation lever in the magazine well, Maximum recoil spring for a 9mm is 20 lbs.
You can't reach the yellow/green sear deactivation lever from the magazine well to actuate it.
You have to go through the slide ejection port.
I've found that a 20-pound RSA works great with 9mm Luger 124 Gr and 147 Gr +P defensive ammo. But it may be too heavy for cheap weak 115 Gr range ammo.
It’s beautiful im debating if i should sell my M&P 40c and get this instead 😍 along with apex trigger
Nice review, appreciate it! Btw...Dawn Patrol!! \M/
Your sear has a surface of the moon crater. Sand it down or replace it with an Apex sear. Even my mod 1 M&P's have them.. Funny even 3 years later they still havent fixed it.
How much easier is this compact to rack the slide over the S&W Shield Plus?
We don't yet have a Shield Plus, but generally, the longer the slide is the easier guns are to rack. Each caliber and barrel length needs a particular spring rate. The longer the slide is the less force-per-inch the spring needs to have, on the other end shorter barrels need stiffer springs. The only way around that (sort of) are with multi-layered springs which some guns use.
Interesting. Looks like a useful piece. Erika may be better off by switching the magazine release to the other side and learning to use her index finger. Pete.
Mean to add that I have large hands too (you know what they say, yep, big feet as well) The “large” grip may suit me better because being left handed the big palm swell is on the other side. Can you check this out if you haven’t done the range filming yet?????? Cheers.
ptrisonic I’m a lefty and I would never switch the mag release, that’s one thing that we get right when using right handed guns. It probably would be better for her on the right side using her trigger finger.
7:35 my barrel doesn’t come out of the slide frame. I can clean it just fine but when I try to take the barrel out it won’t come out. I know I’m doing everything right and have done the same with other models of handgun (successfully). Any help?
With the slide off tap the barrel down (it doesn't take much force), then with the barrel unlocked move it forward, then tilt it down and slide it out.
I've never had that issue with any of my pistols, ever, including any of the 7 different S&W M&P M2.0 pistols that I've owned, past and present.
Wish they made a .357 sig barreled Compact 2.0. jes sayin.
Agreed!!!
I would absolutely love to have a S&W M&P 357 SIG M2.0 4" Compact optics ready pistol.
Good things! 👍
It gave block a run for its money or the new S&w m&p handguns are fantastic some of them even come with night sights the only thing is they did away with the plastic box the new ones coming to cardboard box it's still a great deal funeral is cheaper than Glock and it workmanship is just 100% fantastic check it out
🇺🇸💯👍
Traded my glock for this
ditto
This is my first handgun and firearm! Pumped to get into the 2A and gun community!
Me too. I didn’t trade, but I don’t carry the Glock 19 as much as I did. Love the new 4 inch compact.
I sent my S&W 36 to S&W for repair in early July, I got it back
in February. First off, they got my contact information wrong so I never
got the estimate so I could approve the work. Then they had my gun down
for the wrong work and not what I asked for. Then my gun got
misplaced! Then in late January when I called to ask about the progress
of the work, I got a very combative customer service representative. I
AM NEVER BUYING ANOTHER S&W AGAIN!!!
K
Good...more for me
35 years of owning firearms i have never needed to press check as i know when my gun is loaded or not
I don't own a gun, but I always make it a habit to check. You just never know. Like my dad always told me, guns have a funny way of finding a way to load themselves. ;)
yet if you handed me your firearm I would check for myself
JayzBeerz okay billy “operator” bad ass.
I check my firearms 3 times, then a 4th for good measure
Is the mag release reversible for a lefty?
Yup
Just got mine, but it didnt come in the plastic case. Just came in a SW branded carton box.
Got one like in the video yesterday with night sights new for 309$
The trigger ain't bad... But damn, that travel is just ridiculous. I've got a 2.0 5", and it just seems like forever before you get to the wall.
I don't by any mean hate the MP line, but I'm not in love with it either. I think there are better guns as options at the price point.
I put an aluminum alloy Overwatch Precision TAC trigger in my S&W M&P 9 ProSeries CORE M2.0 5" pistol.
In my personal experience, to my knowledge, it's the best trigger currently available for the S&W M&P 9 and 40 M2.0 lines of pistols.
Good things! 👍
@@jpg_sig10 It was easier, and cheaper to sell the gun and buy something else. 😂
That baby been gone!
Angus Hobdell points out that having a loaded chamber mechanism activated by the round is an obstruction. I tend to agree. I would prefer the round not have anything to do but get out of the magazine and into the chamber. Besides, they gun is always loaded.
I'll let you know if I ever have a malfunction from it. So far none.
@@GBGuns It doesn't have a LCI. I was just saying that Hobdell pointed out that LCIs can be obstructions to smooth and reliable cycling. I have pistols with them and never seen a problem, but I have also never felt they were needed.
It’s a better looking gun than Glock I can tell u that🇺🇸
The only thing that makes the Glock better is the convenience and ease of changing the sights. If SW creates an easier method to do so on the MP series it will take over the world.
Ok so I just bought this gun and it came with 3 magazines. Did the gun shop employee mess up and give me an extra mag or does it come with 3 now? lmao
Better than getting a Sig with one mag in it!
@@GBGuns amen to that!
Mine came with two 9mm Luger 15-round magazines, and two textured spacer sleeves for use on M&P 17-round magazines.
How much ?
Not for sale
This or the canik tp9 sf elite?
Personally I try to buy my firearms made in the USA, it's just my preference. The canik is a very good weapon even though it's not US made.
you know your shit, unlike hickok45 with his "good crisp" glock trigger, and most other guntubers.
Thank you. I think a major difference is experience. I've been through ITTS (handgun), Front Sight (multiple carbine and handgun courses), CENTER-T (AK and Handgun) and Thunder Ranch (AK and Handgun). I also spent a year teaching defensive shooting full time, three years in local 3-Gun, and 15 years on active duty in the Army including tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Does it not have a safety
Mine didn't come with a safety on it. That way I like it. It has that trigger safety tho. It's the pro motel but you can get one with the thumb safety.
you can get it with a safety
DARK KNIGHT RETURNS
Batman: Cute gun
Do you feel that this pistol is equal to Glock 19 ?
Most compacts produced in the last 20-30 years have the Glock 19 beat in at least one way.
I love the texturing. Sold me on this pistol. This is a fun gun for me to just shoot. If my hands were to be to sensative for the textured grip then i might be a woman. Definitely not "aimed" at woman shooters.
What is that horizontal-metal-piece in front of the slide-release for? Looks like a Pre-load for the slide-release. Please present a full definition.
Its like a slide release for taking the gun apart.
Actually, it's a detent Smith put in to prevent the slide from chambering a round if the mag is slammed in to hard.
Even though I still see some people can still slam the mag in and cause it to auto forward.
NOT A GOOD idea to use the slide release to release the slide BECAUSE it beats up the breach, just pull back the slide and release it.......This is a rule for all semi-autos
@@howardkahn4330 I'll let you know if I ever see evidence the lore is true
@@GBGuns just ask any responsible person at ANY handgun MANUFACTURER and they will verify...
Didn't watch the whole video.. What size barrel?
The front serrations are useless
Who cares about Erikas thoughts?
These boring ass tabletop only reviews are bad enough, but then when you take time to pull out the lock and paperwork I'm through watching.
If you didn't want to see a tabletop video why would you click on one?
