It's a poem written by Jnanapith Awardee Vishnu Sakharam ( Vi Sa) Khandekar Although the song outwardly refers to a devotee asking the benevolent Almighty to wrap HIS caring embrace around him; it has a deeper context in the movie in which the lyrics were used as a song (1961- Mansala Pankh Astat). The actress Usha Kiran has essayed the role of a girl from a lower caste raised in an upper caste family and is deeply in love with a poet ( Suryakant) who is born in an upper caste & is unaware of this. These magical, touching words are actually conveying the agony of a person tormented by the evil, discriminatory practices enforced by centuries-old insensitive, cruel and stratified societal mores. The person is longing to be accepted but is ranged against the all-powerful guardians of this evil Societal Order. It's a searing critique against the abhorrent & inhuman practice of segregation & untouchability. A truly heart wrenching cry appealing for a just, humane & fair society
