How to Remove Drums from a Song/Sample in Ableton
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 июн 2017
- In this tutorial we will be removing drums from a song or a sample in Ableton. Note: this is focused on REMOVING drums, not necessarily EXTRACTING drums. The whole point of this video is to simulate the drums not existing in the song, where you can then add in your own drums later. This is perfect for those of you who want to separate the drums from a track so you can make a more interesting launchpad cover.

Ask and you shall receive! This has been one of my most requested tutorial videos, so I hope you learn a lot! In this video I will teach you how to *_remove_* drums from a song or sample (NOTE: not necessarily extract, just remove) which can be extremely helpful if you're creating a launchpad cover and you want to play the drums with one hand and sample the rest of the song to be played with your other. Enjoy!
So can you make a Video for extracting drums
InspirAspir: 🙏🏻 much obliged
Extra tip: Always turn off "Snap" on your samples. It typically cuts off a tiny bit from the end of the sample which creates that choppiness you were talking about. :)
Thank you so much man!
THANK YOU!
Ive never had a sample been chopped by snap. you must not use warp often, what you're talking about implies some really inefficient technique
and you can create ghost kick and sidechain for this kind of drum removing. You can also adjust the attack and release time. Good job InspirAspir. I like almost all of your vids. Keep goin'!
Aye heiakim noire to see u here
Kinda unusual seeing heiakim here xD
I don't know who you are, but that's genius
instead of looking up bpm, turning off warp etc... just click the slave button right underneath warp, it takes the songs bpm automatically and makes it the master bpm
There’s so many fucking tips and tricks on accomplishing the same task. Love it tho, such a huge help when using each to really get that sample right.
EDIT: And thanks for this new one :)
@Green Eyes. Thank you for that excellent tip.. @@trapOrdoom indeed. In fact I always say Ableton has more Easter Eggs in it's program than Cadbury
TIP: you can boost the choppinng part by selecting the part of the song you want to be drumless, taking care of it to be precisely cut, and simply counting how many beats it's long. Then you paste it inside simpler in slice mode choosing "region" as slicing method, in which you write down the number of beats you counted. here you can adjust the fade in of all the slices. afther that, simply right click and convert to drum rack. All the slices will be automatically numbered in progression, so you don't need to rename them manually. This saves you all the time you spent chopping, and doesn't require all the bpm matching thing you did at the beginning. At the end are just a couple of moves: take out the part, count the beats, slice by region, export to drum rack. Keep up the good work and hello from italy!
Skill unlocked:Side Chain
FINNALY! Thank you so much!!!
This is what I like
Thanks for the video ;)
Thank you InspirAspir for making this amazing tutorial.......... I was waiting for this and here I have it... Thank you!!!!! And one more thing, yesterday I made my own song and I'll be releasing it very soon by crediting you to teach me!!!
Hey nice! Glad to hear it
Amazing tutorial as always ❤️😜
Great content. Keep it up!
Aye thanks bro! I just realized that I was in the video on my second watch! This helped a lot!
Glad to hear it, thanks for the suggestion
Some heros don't wear a cape
horoes*
No all wear mask
Hahaha; Google has gotten so smart! I was trying to figure out how to remove a drum sample from a drum kit to use it as a sample for lead lines. This video wasn't even "about" that, but you helped me get there! Thanks so much! (10:03)
Thanks so much man! This helped out a lot
Your tutorial are the best, others are just promoting plugins
I like that sudden "bye" at the end of the video before the outro.
Finally u made this video😁😁😁
Thanks a lot! You can also copy value to siblings for the volume or any other parameters to go faster
Nice tips! Anyway I would still recommend to make your sampling the normal way and then Fade In some of the samples once they're already in the drum rack.
(If you are creating a launchpad cover obviously). This will save some time by not having to create a midi clip then export it etc...
I sit 3 h try to remove the drums but this video helped me
Helpful
CLEVER!
you need more subs
If you're making a launchpad cover, you don't need to make the midi clip you just drag in the samples and fade them
This is true, this is another way to do this and honestly probably quicker ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You're great! 😍
Use Utility. It takes less time and removed better. You can even extract the drum then!
diaz kama Utility is a standard ableton plugin.
Also, you could use the utility feature and phase-L,R and remove them automatically. This is good for beginners though :)
From my experience this only works if the drum hits are identical, otherwise if the drum is layered with another sound and the audio files aren't identical then it doesn't work as well. Maybe I wasn't doing it right? Who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thats true! You have to find VERY similar drum hits for this to work usually.
This is a new way ive never heard before so thanks for sharing!
Trying this out now ;D
I tried that... but the quality jumped off a canyon
can also do this within any dj software to turn the kick all the way down, not sure if it does the same thing but it almost removes all the kicks
Can you do a vid on how to extract vocals from a song, get rid of the guitar from a song or just turn it down a bit so the vocals come out more? Thanks
Very interesting
Thanks for the video. One question. What about removing drums from a sample that has already been inserted into Simpler and chopped up? Do you know if there's a way to do that?
U da best
FINALLY FUCK YEAH
Ive only been doing this a year but you could also just arm a track and record your midi clip as an audio file too right? Instead of the extra steps of saving the clip and exporting it to bring it back into the project
Good tutorial I make drum removing with fl studio is more fast
thx
Hi! Where did you get the right drum sound effect you used to fill the gaps of the music😅😅
Can you also ajust the fade out to remove everything except the drums?
Good
Thanks to IA
love u
can you do a video on how i can remove vocals????
I don't get the same thing as you when I double click each sample in my drum rack. it's a small grid of effects that does not include fade in. why?
Omfg how couldnt i figure this out before 😂😂😂😂
Trito ! Same
If you listen closely you can hear a song
The song is Kovan and Electro-light- Skyline
One thing that could make this video better is to show how to remove more than one drum hits in one sample because I have been trying to figure that out for ages.
Do this process for every drum hit, only have one drum per sample. Then add the fades, effectively removing all drums from the song. Then export your newly drum-removed song and sample accordingly. At that point you can sample your non-drum song to have multiple "drum hits" in a given sample, but this won't really be the case since if you do it right there shouldn't be any drums at all. Hope that makes sense
By far the most useful content for a tutorial on sampling out drums
Hi, Can you make waiting for love avicii lightshow. sorry my english i' m Italian
i use vst drumextract for this
How do you get the sample from RUclips or other files to Ableton?
What's the advice to do this for the entire song? It's too tedious to do this for 4 minutes of perucussion. Also, what if the song has vocalS?
Fade in.
I fken knew it.
Why you don't use two compressors with sidechain function? One on the Kick one on the snare?
That could also work, probably quicker and essentially does the same thing. I'd say go for it ;)
what genre is your intro ? how to make those type of songs??
there was no slice to new midi track option in 2017?
To remove melody just do max on fade out. It cancels the melody and not the drum
how to extract kick and snare sound from original song?
(I want to input extracted kick and snare sound from original song separately at the Launchpad)
like kaskobi's havana project song
The song im doing a launchpad cover on has a chord stab, and then a half a beat after there's a kick, and and when the kick plays the melody continues. I want to play the chord stab and play the melody with 1 button (without the kick) but play my own kick on another button. But since the kick is in the middle of the sample, I don't know how to remove the drum, because you can't fade in and out in the middle of a sample (in other words you cant make the fade shape look like V in the middle of the sample). Any help and suggestions would help thx
Just go through and remove the drums from your song using this method first, then if necessary, you can export your audio file (now without drums) and then add that back into Ableton in a different audio track, then sample that from there. That should allow you to create samples of any size/length that don't have drums in the song, if that makes sense?
how/where can i find the correct kicks and snares for a particular song?
Xenoto I reccomend downloading drum kits for that genre and layering them to try and replicate the original, there's no real way to find the exact original sample though.
thanks
you can also take a sample of a kick and fade out until you only have the drum
How do you get just the drum
I mean you can eq it?
One question! What should i do when the drums are in a vocal part when i fade them it sounds not right or good :( ?
That's tough to avoid, honestly the best you could hope for is some magic. You could try to EQ either the drum or vocals and isolate them and work from there, but that may not sound clean. Once vocals are introduced the process becomes a little unreliable unfortunately
InspirAspir oh but thank you very very much that you answear my question
how to get the bass and drums in a song?
Someone should make a plugin to make removing drums easier or more like FL Studio
anyone know why my speaker sounds won't work on abelton live. It works perfectly fine on RUclips videos but not on ableton live
Go into your preferences tab in ableton. Then go to the audio tab and try all the output options. It should work on one option
Ben Hibberd
thanks man it worked!
Zyah F thx i love to help others as they have helped me before
So you removed the drums, but how can i put the drums so i can play it on another hand on the launchpad.
Hello. How to extract drums from a song and convert it to midi.
It's like using a hammer to make a sculpture instead of sandpaper or *insert very precise tool here*.
you can do this so much easier
True
I agree, I had my reasonings for explaining it this way and there are many quicker and easier ways ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
How?
Freeze than flatten to turn MIDI into an audio track
How do you make the drums for the no drum audio?
ZombieSmurf 191 Drum samples :p
Ok. And how remove sample, if drum in the middle or end sample?
sample it too
7:00 min mark
What is the application u r using.
ableton live 9
has someone made the joke Aspir-gers yet?
plz intro song??
*EDIT:* nvm
Starts at 2:30
*I N S P E R A T I O N S*
if you're using it on the same project i guess you can freeze and flatten
Good point! Definitely something you can easily do
*cries in Simpler*
Thus is not a bad way, but if your kick or snare falls in the middle of a chop, then the fade knob will be useless
Or, alternatively, cut up your song to remove all the drums this way (you can make small cuts, so the space between drum hits shouldn't be smaller than the minimum sample size) then export your song with newly removed drums. Now from here you can sample your drum-less song, and not worry about making samples that collide with your drums
Thanks you so much for your tutorial for making a launchpad cover i'm now making a fly away project from the fat rat 😉
how to remove vocals!!
Ozone 7
Will you help me on Android mobile to remove drum music
What about the other way around? Get rid of everything except the drums.
Honestly you sound like muyskerm
Fak... so if I wanted to make a drum cover of a metal song ...removing the drums would be chaos...
where do i find suitable drum samples for a song😅😅
cymatics
Oof I'm a year late...
those drums were not removed
I have a different way xD
Mind sharing what it is?
like prolaunchpadders tutorial
there are better ways to remove drums from the song and will take a lot less time. But good for beginners I guess?
Is there any video or link related to the tutorial that you said?
I did this since most people intend to remove the drums to use them in a launchpad cover, so putting them in the drum rack could save some time but I do agree that the whole process of exporting them and doing it that way takes more time, to be honest I forgot you could change the fades on an audio file. Oh well, can't change the video now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You can change fades on an audio file without putting it in the drumrack?!?!?
.
In this way you simply put a silence instead of every drum beat.... useless
+Raffaele Bardese that is how you remove drums, yes. This is intended for live performances and remixes
Wtf did I just watch. It seems that all you have done is make a drum rack and MIDI file by decreasing the volume at the points in the song that have drum sounds. So now you have a drum rack without drum sounds. And that's fine, but you cannot use the actual drums that were in the original file. And you have no even isolated the drums. You just turned down the volume at the beginning of a bunch of ~0.5 second clips. I'm not very experienced, but it seems like the best way to make a drum rack without drum sounds or with drum sounds, from any track, would be to EQ them out and isolate the sounds completely.
good tutorial, terrible music
