Three groups of people liked candidate Trump: the very rich who expected him to un-fund programs for the poor, gut regulations on big corporations and approve more sweetheart tax deals for the very rich, 2) the white, working class, blue collar types stuck in dead end jobs and with no hope of financially improving their lives and 3) the white supremacist xenophobes like Bannon. Of the three types, I want the Democrats to do a much better job of helping the white, working poor, blue collar types because they are a sizeable voting block and the Republicans surely will not help the blue collar workers.

Trump reminds me of a recent infomercial I saw where they were hyping up a fancy HDTV stick as a way to get rid of overpriced cable and satellite bills with amazing free Local Broadcast TV, but in the tiny small print at the end was the blurb about how you can't really get the same cable channels for free over the air with an antenna. I think all of Trump's speeches should have to have the same tiny fine print captioned at the bottom from now on.

Sure, as a German I know how health care is not a new or very hard thing to do if you don't have any. We got our system installed by Bismarck, after all. And just as a populist measure to undercut social democrats.
But, changing from one system to another with shit as complicated in place as the US has now, that's another thing entirely.
You will need to dig up hundreds of bills now useless and find new ways for everybody to be cared for, you have to change fundamentally how hospitals work etc.

Björn Czaia The US already has the means to shift to a fully functioning SINGLE-PAYER universal healthcare system administered by the government (with just a two cent overhead), just like all other industrialized nations enjoy. It's called Medicare.
Currently, all Americans age 65 and over must be on Medicare. It only needs to be expanded to include ALL Americans. Just like all other single-payer systems it would be paid by taxes that everyone would pay into (those under 65 already pay minimal Medicare tax for after-retirement health care coverage). And with one universal Medicare system, it would be able to negotiate the absolute best prices paid to pharmaceuticals, physicians, and hospitals. The result would be that by everyone paying a little more in their Medicare tax, every American would know medical care is always there for them if they become seriously ill or injured. Every individual's increase in tax would be far far less than we now pay for the scam and national disgrace of the unnecessary middleman system known as FOR-PROFIT PRIVATE INSURANCE that skims some 30 cents of every premium dollar for its own profit that does not go to actual medical benefits.
Under "MEDICARE FOR ALL", no more would millions of under-insured and uninsured Americans go bankrupt every year trying to pay for medical care necessary to save their lives, and many still dying needlessly.
