    Thanks for sharing this. I've been painting objects around my house as a way to cultivate my watercolor. Lamp posts in the yard, watering cans, a stoop with neat tiles, etc. It's helping me learn how to work with colors.

      Being new to wc I’ll keep this in mind. I really enjoy painting houses but they take so long to pencil, then doing a great ink job then paint the really fun part. I’m usually tired at that point and refuse to rush. Smaller projects will allow me as they do you practice with paint. My houses so far are pretty bland. I’ve been working with flowers. They have enabled me a lot of practise. There’s a new book coming out in about 15 days by Cecilie Osaka on Amazon. I think the last name is spelled correctly. I’m on the book launch team.it is strictly about drawing flowers in a step by step manner. No colour. You can leave them colourless or paint your heart away. There are 46 different ones. My muscle control has vastly improved. I needed something small to allow me to use paint. I’m enjoying myself and filling a small journal. I’m long winded. So sorry. Keep painting. BE SAFE.

      @Gordon Allen I'm relatively new to watercoloring as well but I'll try to help :) So I've noticed that a lot of watercolorists will "build up layers" of their pigment. Watercolor works backwards from most painting mediums: You're suppose to work Light to Dark, instead of Dark to Light since watercolor is often a transparent medium with little opacity, you're suppose to begin with light first since if you start with the darkest color you wont be able to lighten it up sufficiently if its not the correct tone (because all the lighter paints are too transparent and cannot lighten the darkened medium). The more "washes" you apply to the same place, the darker the paint becomes in that area and watercolor is a little unpredictable so its best to "work up to" the correct color slowly and with multiple washes to lessen the chances of making a mistake. Also, watercolor (unlike acrylic and especially oil paints) is a very flat medium, with little "texture". Building up layers of the paint help to give the painting a more "textured" feel and gives it a bit more life and vibrancy. Some of this info is what I've gathered and some is my own opinion, but I hope it helped :p

    • @tarias_sketchy_adventures
      @tarias_sketchy_adventures  3 года назад +3

      Hi Gordon - its a good question, I painted it but then felt that left side needed to be darker to give a bit more contrast and emphasis so thats why I went in with a deeper colour. You are not going to make the right decisions first time around. Don't be afraid to go in and darken certain areas if you need. Also, in waterolour you work light to dark, so it's better to start lighter than you need as its much easier to go darker, if you go to dark its much harder to rescue. Thirdly, watercolour can dry lighter than expected, so sometimes you need to go make things darker. I hope that helps!

      @@Harlequin52 Thanks for the help. It is very kind of you Harlequin52.I’m having fun making art.I draw and paint pretty much everyday. I’ve been trying watercolour pencils. They are a challenge and turn out okay but not like good paint. I’m researching right now to purchase some pan paint that is easy to work with, has transparency and the color will be bold. I do not want to break the bank.if you don’t mind can you tell me what you are using? You being relatively new and finding success might help me. Take care and BE SAFE.

    • @Harlequin52

      @@gordonallen8189 That's actually a rather difficult question for me to answer, hah. I own various student and professional grade watercolors, anything from Arteza to Daniel Smith and honestly, the only thing I can tell is that I'm not experienced enough to really tell the difference except from the most obvious details. Now this might have to do with paper because even though I own watercolor paper I don't like to use it very often when I'm only experimenting and such. But to answer your question I would probably recommend Paul Rubens. Now, it is a student grade paint and there is some controversy on whether anyone (new or experienced) should "waste time and money" on student vs. just "getting the good stuff" that is professional paint. I'm not sure which is better but all I know is a ten thousand dollar musician can make a hundred dollar violin sound like a Strad but a hundred dollar musician would make a Strad sound like a dying cat, lol. But it is highly pigmented (for what its worth) and has a beautiful color-palette that (helpfully) uses the typical names for their colors that most professional paints use, also. Warning, though: Paul Rubens Tube paints are meant to only be used straight from the tube and will not dry or harden if placed in pans, which can risk getting moldy if you do so anyways. The already-packaged pan paints themselves should be fine, though. This all being said I would like to point out that I don't know how experienced you are with art in general. Even though I've been doing water color (off-and-on) for almost a year now I previously had zero understanding of art at all (in fact, I'm more or less a musician) and the last time I picked up a brush before this was in elementary school. So take this all with a grain of salt, as you may be quite a bit more technically experienced than I :p
