Great tips and for those of us who can’t attend workshops, having a book to reference and inspire is the next best thing! Many thanks to you both for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you for all the great tips. I took an online urban sketching course during Covid and am getting better as I practice but have never thought about things such as value and really don’t know what a color wheel is. I’ve been trying to make my sketches look like what I see in front of me, including making things the same color as what I’m seeing. What you have shared here will help me progress in making my sketches what I want them to be.
Thank you for this discussion Taria, I hadn't been introduced to Oliver's work and philosophy beforehand, but several of his statements really resonate. Great viewing
I have and have been reading your wonderful book. I enjoyed this interview with tips. Those at the end of the presentation will help me relax and be less critical of myself. Thank you.
I find Oliver’s tip on time management very important; urban sketching typically takes less time than say Plein Air or studio work, we don’t have that luxury.. so capturing just the essence then growing from that makes much sense to me!
Absolutely. There's so many aspects in Oliver's book where he just explains / thinks differently about the urban sketching process. It's such a refreshing book packed with value! Thanks for watching!
