Saying he in jail is smart on the writers part because if he ever agrees to take the role they can just say he got released from jail so it keeps the door open for that character to come in any time they want.

Chad had actually auditioned for the Johnny Lawrence role. But Zabka got it. They still liked Chad so much though that they automatically gave him the role of Dutch. Which was a much better casting for his abilities anyway.

When I was a kid, my Dad once told me that if an actor can make you hate his character, that actor is doing his job very well. In the original Karate Kid, the two characters that I took a genuine dislike to were both Kreese, and Dutch. A fine job gentlemen. Just unfortunate that Dutch couldn’t make a return to the series - this would have added a new dimension to the plot...
Listening to Martin Kove speak during this interview, I'm glad to know that he's a real sweetie. The fact that he plays someone like Kreese, who is totally evil and corrupt so well, can only attest to the fact that as an actor, he does his job and does it well.
Kreese isn’t purely evil though. He just has a lot of demons from his past haunting him that make him do the wrong things. I think we’ll finally see his redemption arc in season 6.
Chad McQueen was able to pull off being a bad arse with bleached blonde hair. I always found his character as the scariest of the cobra kai. The way his face changes when Daniel ignores him after remark “what’s a matter mommy not here to dress you”.

I saw promotions for Cobra Kai on RUclips about 2 years ago. I liked the movies a lot when I was young but did not give the TV show a second glance. I ran across the show on Netflix a week ago surprised to see that there are three seasons. It took me three nights to watch all three seasons. Once you start to watch you cannot stop. Can't wait for season 4.

Saw an interview with Chad McQueen recently and he was still quite well kept for his age(60) but his accident at Daytona really took its toll on him physically, he really got busted up and broke tons of bones all over his body, it's a miracle he is even able to walk. He's crazy rich from his dad's estate and staring in a TV show was probably just not worth the effort to him. There's always season 6 though!

Marin Kove is a great actor to play a villian. Ending of season 3 of Cobra Kai is awesome. It really went back to the first movie. The episode with Chozen was really good. To see what kind if person he became after his fight with Daniel and running away in the storm.
Dutch was always the most wild. Even when Kreese was choking Johnny at the beginning of part II, Dutch is just nonchalant in the background. I doubt even Kreese would've tried that shit on Dutch back then.
Nobody ever mentions Larry B. Scott. Poor Lamar Latrell from Revenge of the Nerds was a Cobra Kai too. Lol Side note: Tony O' Dell has aged pretty nicely. They can bring him back!

You’re probably thinking of Jimmy. He had one line in the entire movie, though ironically enough, he had the most acting success afterwards (Tony O’Dell, who went on to star in Head of the. Class). Supposedly he’s still close with the others, so if they come back, there’s a good shot he will too.

You could see Bobby didn't want to do it, and most of his students (aside from Dutch) were starting to open their eyes and see what he's really about.

When you watch Karate Kid, it is clear that Daniel's showdown with Dutch in the tournament was meant to be its own event but was cut down in order to fit the fight into the montage of Daniel beating his preliminary opponents. I've never seen the unedited version of the fight but I'd love to know how it was intended to go down.
I saw footage of it and it was scary how fast and aggressive Chad was. He was like a fighting dog lol. I thought he was going to kill Daniel. It would have been cool if he won. I saw a fan video and he did lol.

Johnny is in the dojo, his life in shambles after being put through hell by Kreese and several of his students abandoning him, perhaps ready to end it all. Suddenly the door opens and in walks Bobby, who Johnny had no idea was watching him from afar. Distraught over seeing what his old friend has become, he sits Johnny down and they have a long talk about what is truly important in life; perhaps with Bobby sharing stories of some of his own personal struggles over the last 30+ years. Bobby's words start to make sense in Johnny's head and he begins to turn his life around. Perhaps Bobby could even help him train for one final battle against Kreese; to expunge his demons once and for all. It would all be like that scene in Rocky 3. After getting brutally beaten by Lang for the title and then Mick dying, Rocky is disillusioned and doesn't know where to turn. Apollo comes out unexpectedly to give him the motivation he needs to go on and regain not only his title but his pride. And since there were a couple of references to Rocky 3 in Season 1, I think it'd be a neat parallel. Sorry for the long-winded comment. But still, great idea.

Take a look at William Zabka, Rob Garrison and Ron Thomas. Out of the three William Zabka could pass as Johnny's older brother, while Rob Garrison could be Tommy's grandpa. Ron Thomas can be the same generation as Kreese. Looking at William Zabka a person will likely recognise him as Johnny from the Karate Kid. Some people just age more than others, so far William Zabka, Ralph Macchio and Martin Kove have aged well. Elisabeth Shue also.

Dutch and Barnes would've been a damn good match. Chozen still would've wiped the floor with both of those dudes considering he was Satos best student in his 60 plus years of living. And he was a killer thru and thru with his entire life of being karate students whereas the other two, 5 years for Dutch and maybe 10 for Barnes.

@@njc84 Rob Garrison IMO looks like he is old enough to have been the grandfather of Tommy. Ron Thomas could pass as Bobby's father. William Zabka can pass just as an older version of Johny, or an older brother. It is amazing the difference on how some of the Kobra Kai members have aged well and not so well.
It's not like he'd have to break away for that much time at all, even if it's just for one scene, that would be good enough, at least it would open the door.

Marin Kove is a great actor to play a villian. Ending of season 3 of Cobra Kai is awesome. It really went back to the first movie. The episode with Chozen was really good. To see what kind if person he became after his fight with Daniel and running away in the storm.
Watching this in light of the passing of Chad McQueen (Dutch) was only 63 years young

Dutch was always the most wild. Even when Kreese was choking Johnny at the beginning of part II, Dutch is just nonchalant in the background. I doubt even Kreese would've tried that shit on Dutch back then.
Dutch looked like Keifer Sutherland in those days.

Chad was great as Dutch in the original. If they can get him to back for Cobra Kai that would be amazing but if he isn't interested, what can you do? Best of luck to him in whatever he decides!
No. The question is what "was" going on with Dutch? The boy was just too high strung. He would be the only one out of the Cobra Kai that I would actually consider kind of scary.

You’re probably thinking of Jimmy. He had one line in the entire movie, though ironically enough, he had the most acting success afterwards (Tony O’Dell, who went on to star in Head of the. Class). Supposedly he’s still close with the others, so if they come back, there’s a good shot he will too.
@Joel Johnson Jimmy's line was "I thought they broke up" when they first see Daniel with Ali on the beach, and then (I think) Tommy says, "She broke up, he didn't."
@Joel Johnson It was a quick scene after he beat Jerry Robertson, and before he beat Tommy.
I get why they wanted Bobby to be the one to injure Daniel: it had to be someone with a conscience. You could see Bobby didn't want to do it, and most of his students (aside from Dutch) were starting to open their eyes and see what he's really about.

When you watch Karate Kid, it is clear that Daniel's showdown with Dutch in the tournament was meant to be its own event but was cut down in order to fit the fight into the montage of Daniel beating his preliminary opponents. I've never seen the unedited version of the fight but I'd love to know how it was intended to go down.
There’s a rehearsal take in which Dutch loses his shit on another competitor, and he gets booted from the tournament for unsportsmanly conduct.

@Misteriosi81 Damn, I hope they bring Bobby back. I always thought he was the good conscience side of Johnny-always tried to steer him right. It'd be cool if in season 2, Johnny is just really torn and conflicted between what is right and wrong and bobby comes out of the shadows.

Johnny is in the dojo, his life in shambles after being put through hell by Kreese and several of his students abandoning him, perhaps ready to end it all. Suddenly the door opens and in walks Bobby, who Johnny had no idea was watching him from afar. Distraught over seeing what his old friend has become, he sits Johnny down and they have a long talk about what is truly important in life; perhaps with Bobby sharing stories of some of his own personal struggles over the last 30+ years. Bobby's words start to make sense in Johnny's head and he begins to turn his life around. Perhaps Bobby could even help him train for one final battle against Kreese; to expunge his demons once and for all.
It would all be like that scene in Rocky 3. After getting brutally beaten by Lang for the title and then Mick dying, Rocky is disillusioned and doesn't know where to turn. Apollo comes out unexpectedly to give him the motivation he needs to go on and regain not only his title but his pride. And since there were a couple of references to Rocky 3 in Season 1, I think it'd be a neat parallel.

Take a look at William Zabka, Rob Garrison and Ron Thomas. Out of the three William Zabka could pass as Johnny's older brother, while Rob Garrison could be Tommy's grandpa. Ron Thomas can be the same generation as Kreese. Looking at William Zabka a person will likely recognise him as Johnny from the Karate Kid. Some people just age more than others, so far William Zabka, Ralph Macchio and Martin Kove have aged well. Elisabeth Shue also.

Dutch and Barnes would've been a damn good match. Chozen still would've wiped the floor with both of those dudes considering he was Satos best student in his 60 plus years of living. And he was a killer thru and thru with his entire life of being karate students whereas the other two, 5 years for Dutch and maybe 10 for Barnes.

@@njc84 Rob Garrison IMO looks like he is old enough to have been the grandfather of Tommy. Ron Thomas could pass as Bobby's father. William Zabka can pass just as an older version of Johny, or an older brother. It is amazing the difference on how some of the Kobra Kai members have aged well and not so well.

To break the story down more, I heard Dutch has commitments with his race team and can't break away. It's too bad, he played a perfect bad guy.
It's not like he'd have to break away for that much time at all, even if it's just for one scene, that would be good enough, at least it would open the door.
Dutch was one of the scariest bullies in that movie.

Tommy turned good at the end. When Kreese was choking Johnny, he tried to reason with him. Then when that didn’t work he tried to help Johnny only to get a back fist for his troubles. It’s funny cuz Bobby got an elbow to the chest & that enough for him.
