Join me on a summer evening natural-light photoshoot using the Canon 5D Classic paired with the 50mm 1.8 'nifty fifty', probably the cheapest full-frame setup you can easily get hold of. We're shooting in the historic streets and parks of the city of Bath in the UK. Everything was shot in Aperture Priority mode with the aperture set at f.2.8 throughout. After having a wide range of full frame and crop sensor bodies, I have come to the conclusion that this is the ultimate portrait camera offered by Canon. The skin colors are beautiful and vibrant, the file is forgiving being older and less mp, but not too forgiving - giving sharpness that feels just right and natural. Paired with L lenses and good lighting this camera can put up with anything you throw at it.

    Ha, both - camera + lens - can be bought for less than 300€ on the used market - shouldn't keep anybody back from making beautiful photos. Hi, great video! And great results. Wondering from your experience what Canon Picture Styles gives best result for producing JPGs which is closest to the final result you get after RAW processing. E.g. in this task - golden hour portraits, what PS you would use? Standard / Portrait / Natural / Faithful? If just a light color grade needed perhaps those color shifts for some channels (orange/yellow/green) can be done in Picture Style Editor and upload custom one into User1,2,3 slots?

    The images are outstanding really. The look and feel of those images cannot be produced by any modern camera. I bought this gem recently after a long search and create landscape photos with it plus some street stuff. I'm an enthusiast and have operated more modern cameras like 5DIII and 1 DxII. Those equipment do produce sharp images with great clarity. However, the subtle smoothness of 5D Classic results are absent there. That's why I love my 5D Classic and use it everyday.

    Its been a while since there were comments on this beautiful video, but I was wondering how big you can blow up the photos from the Canon 5d classic? My photog "mentor" and friend is saying you need at least 26 mp to make big wall portraits 40x60 inches? My friend learned during film days, so has been thru all the three recent phases of photography - film, digital, and mirrorless. So I hate to doubt her, but is this true? It seems like Canon would not have produced a.full frame camera that you could not enlarge to billboard size, if needed, by their pro photographer customers. Of course, on an actual billboard, it would be okay to lose details. But wld a 5d classic make images you cld blow up to say 40"x60" and not lose fine details or pixellate?

    • @DavidShoukry
      @DavidShoukry  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hiya, I think A3 is probably about the biggest size for prints (without upscaling or similar). When this camera came out (2005) it was probably the most accessible digital camera without spending serious money. I think at that time the billboard stuff would have been Hasselblad MF etc.

      @DavidShoukry  3 года назад +5

      Hey Kuzey, thanks for your comment. For these images the post processing was fairly simple (I'll explain in a minute) but the success of these photos is largely down to shooting at the right time (golden hour) and matching wardrobe to the surroundings we were working in. It meant that the colours were coordinating well with the buildings! My post work, although detailed, just uses typical techniques. The skin work was just heal/clone/dodge/burn (no skin smoothing or anything like that). Colour grading was mostly using Photoshop's Color Balance and Selective Color adjustment layers. And of course making small adjustments to contrast and exposure.

      Nice to hear from you, and thanks! So all the photos in this video were made with that cheap 50mm lens.

    Did you shoot raw or jpeg? And did you edit your photos

      Hiya, yes they were shot in raw and edited afterwards.

      Not much editing though, to be honest.

    At 8:20 the lense doesn’t look like a 50mm 1.8 It looks more like a 1.2 . Did you change lenses. Btw , the review was good.I have a 5d classic and for the last one year since I have it, I don’t use my 70d that often.

    Im cringing here , Jesus christ all the shots same , the poor model doesnt know what to do any more , its like come on , get my legs as well but hte photographer , noo , this is how you do it , each time same body position , look at his , it gets annoying , every time the does this same body pose and Video camera gets better shot each time

      @@DavidShoukry Isnt it true , . You can see it ,
      I do get that this is a professional pose, its how its done , i get that photographer spends days in that pose , it gets burned in to his soul but still poor legs and dress , tough luck :)
      Not meant as criticism

    • @dedskin1
      @dedskin1 8 месяцев назад

      @@amehraphel4027 so dial it back to camera selling gear , lets buy the camera , oh what is that lens , i could not care less about camera and lens , but pose and light , now that is an obsession and not only mine , pictures were made before camera was invented and even then pose and light were everything and are now .Some things never change , its not an obsession to know and respect the God , the Creator , the only difference between Gods creation and mans creation of which pictures are a thing is that God makes living things , everything is alive even the rock you sit on or chair . Always changes , now its different .
      While man create static , its made and never changes . Like Nikola Tesla motor .
      Life is art , let there be light , and a pose for that light to shine on because the pose or what is on the image is the soul .
      Im obsessed by light because you cant take pictures in dark , and im obsessed with poses and frames because without one your picture is worth nothing . For it has no story , no soul .
      So to be obssesed here is not only natural , its even Spiritual , like deep .
