War Thunder [SIM|VR] - Chasing an Experienced Spitfire Pilot (Ki-43-III otsu)

Wow do more of these dogfights! The smoothness and the quality of the video is truly amazing to watch!
Thx! More are coming!
VR Headset probably, for the smooth angles of view. In sim battles, VR headsets give you an objective advantage, in addition to immersion.
@@pyroknight4099 Absolutely!
@@pyroknight4099 In some ways yes. On the other hand it makes it harder to spot or identify planes which can lead you to hesitating on a perfect kill shot. Wouldnt have it any other way.
@@BBQTheRaptor bought the Reverb G2 because of poor IDing in IL2 with my old Quest 2.. It helps a lot for IDing planes in the distance in that game, and DCS... but in War Thunder, everything looks like a blob until its like 1/2 mile away. So many times, I could have had a better position on an enemy, but I have to come in close to see if it's a teammate or an enemy. Sometimes, it's alright, other times, I'll end up on a worse position because I went to look at a teammate, instead of the enemy plane that was also nearby.
It doesnt need to be this bad. I wish they'd figure that shit out
This already takes a lot of concentration and coordination, imagine real life pilots in WW2
Yeah it must have been crazy...
@@ATC83 My screen freezes after 5min of playing . I use oculus Rift. What should i do plz?
@@ollie9916 I don't know, sorry, this never happened to me
The thing that makes the ww2 pilot thing even more nuts was the sheer distance they flew before and after combat and the level of navigation required to go along with it.
@@TheOfficial007 Absolutely. Many were lost due to disorientation or instrument failures...
Dude was really good at drawing you in, and you were good at not overshooting
That was fun to watch
Thx man! Yeah I was glad to encounter such a skilled opponent and enjoyed that dogfight very much
Especially at 0:48
dude this is really cool, and you are a great pilot!
wow this is my most liked comment thanks guys youre killing it!
Thx man!
He is good, also the plane makes a huge help on these 1 vs 1, the only thing I have seen that can match a spitfire is any kind of japanese plane, but here both things got combined and resulted in a great fight
@@XxPepinoMoDzxX Yeah. War Thunders modea of airplanes are way off. Yesterday I was in the p51 H at 24,000 feet doing 340mph and a yak3 was able to pull up from 14,000ft climb to 24k and catch me and kill me. So you are telling me the yak3 in a 20 degree climb is faster than my p51 flying in a straight line. Oh btw I watched the yak3 close the distance from 2 miles away. The inaccuracy of the game is laughable.
@@XxPepinoMoDzxX exactly, japanse planes are not planes but UFOs...
@@thetankster4218 wtf are you talking about the ki-43-iii otsu is a prop plane
the Lighter Aircraft always wins in the hands of an experienced pilot, the spitfire guy truly did his best but a Ki-43 is hard to beat on tight turns.
He should have dove right away but I think he mistook my plane for a Ki-84, he killed me in one minutes before...
That guy was really good but sadly the Ki43 is to op in that situation
Why sadly? :)
@@ATC83 😏
@@ATC83 cuz its unfair for that spitfire pilot to have to deal with that kind of stuff when he is clearly the one who actually has skills.
@@kavvi9605 Thx for this very elaborate and constructive criticism. Just out of curiosity: do you have any idea what happened to Spitfire pilots when they first got to the Pacific front?
@@ATC83 ı don't but ı like to.
This kind of thing must have been terrifying irl
Indeed...
I love the creaky VR setup sound. Feels like you're actually in the plane when the actuators and mounts creak.
I love those sounds too, they add a lot to the immersion. They are also a great indicator (in addition to the camera shaking) that you begin to reach speed limits or a too high AoA...
@@ATC83 That's something that gets missed a lot about flying is the sense of flight. Went up for a 5 minute glider ride and the amount of fly by the seat of your pants in the terms of stalling and bank angle is immense.
@@Ultimatora I had the opportunity to pilot a real aircraft myself (a Robin) for about an hour because one of my firends is a real life pilot, so I absolutely know what you're talking about!
@@ATC83 Never heard of that aircraft but Google images shows a beauty of an aircraft. Coolest thing for me was negative Gs when everything not tethered started floating up.
The sad thing is that he didn t see the explosion
Haha true!
@@ATC83 don't worry, cool guys don't look at explosions.
@@coby98ger29 😎
The spitfire gave a jolly good show, props to the pilot
Yeah he's good
Ki-43-III has legit UFO flight model. In Air RB it's basically impossible to hit if one just goes dive+full pitch + roll at 400-450 spd. The only thing that can take it down is 800-900m random spray - only doable with American fighters, because british simply have too little ammo.
On the other hand, there's one way to escape Ki-43-III - get some speed, so Ki-43-III loses ll rudder authority, then dodging gets v. easy. But trying to dogfight Ki-43 is suicide as seen in the video. I guess Spit pilot didn't know what he was fighting against until it was too late.
I agree with everything you said. I think the Spit pilot mistook it for a Ki-84 as this was a 6.3 match. Flying the Ki-43 III in Sim is a little more challenging than in RB because any hard turn above 500 kph will break your wings, I was surprised a first!
@@ATC83 In AirRB you can rip the wings over 500 too, one of a few that can pull off such stunt :P
@@bezimienny_andzej6425 Oh ok I didn't remember that... Yeah the special Ki-43 defensive feature to "disappear" in front of the enemy lol
I’ve managed to kill a ki-43 in my IAR-81c but that was really only because I was able to get it to overshoot twice and the mg151s only need a hit or two to shred anything Japanese.
@@jamesshields4346 Well done, the Ki-43 isn't an easy plane to kill... It's fragile but agile :)
Always wanted to play war thunder vr to fully enjoy sim. Really great!
Thx man!
Wow he was very good but definitely way more impressed with your ability to track him and counter his flight path so well. Cool to watch
Thanks man, appreciate it!
That was incredibly sweaty. One wrong twitch and it would have been bad. You kept iron composure and got through the hairy parts. Great work. Its great finding an adversary like that and hunting them back down. I use a Track IR system but have been looking to get a VR system. It makes a world of difference in Sim. Nice job great fight!
Thx man! I agree VR changes everything in terms of immersion and distances appreciation
You are calm and cold-headed. That's the trick.
Yeah it sure helps to stay calm but sharp. He almost made me overshoot twice though...
This is a part of the really good stuff about WT. Who knows someone at a medium hedge-fund, buy the snail out and cut the fat. Voila a good game with less grind better matchmaker.
But still excellent piloting by both of ya’s
@@jonnytest55 Thx! Yeah dogfights like that one are hard to come by...
idk why people are trying to downplay your skills because it's a ki43, meanwhile if a spit was turn fighting a bf109 they will all be saying how good the spit pilot is lol and a spitfire is one of the best turn fighters in the game so it's still a dangerous plane
Some people forget that the Ki-43 awsome turning capabilities are obtained at the cost of a big sacrifice (as it was irl): total lack of armor and very low ammo count. You can't have it all
@@ATC83 armor doesnt mean squat if youre behind them 100% of the time, as for ammo its really not that hard to fire your guns at times where you know youll hit, especially if you have all the time in the world behind them. its a cake walk. In war thunder, climb and turn rates outweigh literally everything by a long shot
idk the zero is pretty good
@@kgraebes88 The lack of armor is the reason why I can be behind them in the first place, I'm agile. And 100% of the time is very optimistic because I'm much slower than the competition in this plane. Do you play sim at all?
@@tastynoobr3685 Of course it's good!
So glad this showed up on my recommended. Love WT Sim fights!
Glad you liked it. Thx!
Haven't play WT in years but when I did it was in a Jaden, Zero, or a Hayabusa. You just brought back many memories! Ty
Thx to you for your support!
I really wished I had to resources to purchase the set you have. Very nice flying, it was extremely pleasing to watch.
Good work!
Thanks, much appreciated!
both of you did so good this is so hypnotizing to watch
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Something so beautiful about dog fighting. It's truly like watching nature.
I never thought of it like that but I think I know what you mean... Thanks!
This brings me back to the online dogfights in il2-1946.
remarkably good moves from both pilots, thanks for the video!
Thanks to you for your nice comment!
Nice flying man! It's bizarre how close this view is in the sound and in the visual effects to the Battle Field 5 cockpit view!
Thanks! Interesting, I never realized...
Great fight mate! I thoroughly enjoyed watching it! 😊 Thanks for sharing
Thanks mate, appreciate it!
Very cool curve fight, respect!
I've now also flown in with the KI43 and I'm thrilled, pure dominance and lots of fun...

Amazing skills from both pilots here🔥. As someone who struggles to take off in sim this is insane 🤣

@@Remo_1997 Thx man, I really appreciate it!
Title should be “experienced pilot chasing a spitfire”
Haha thx!
While the gods of sim clash in the skies, we mere mortals struggle to even take off without crashing 5 times in a row.
Haha! Yeah it takes time to be comfortable in sim :)
I know this video is old but damn that was a beautiful chase. You seem to use the Ki43 a lot, I usually stick to zeroes or the ki-61 variants when I fly Japan but you’ve got me intrigued to try it
Thanks man! I was happy to encounter such an opponent. Yeah the Ki-43 is one of my favourite Japanese designs, It turns about like a Zero but has a much better roll rate and climbs a bit better. The Ki-43-III is more powerful than the other versions and has 20mm cannons (they don't hit very hard but have a good rate of fire). The ammo is very limited tho (300 rounds) and that's the plane that best taught me trigger discipline.
GG for spit, i always feel hard to play many of spitfire models if played with mouse. So difficult to trim! GG fight
Thanks man! Yeah the Spit pilot was very good
I bet that looked badass from the ground
Haha yeah!

Excellent trigger discipline

Damn. This looks like it was in simulator. That’s hard and takes skill. Wouldn’t want to run into them in arcade or realistic.
WT sim isnt that hard to master. Il-2 is far more complex and DCS is a whole new world entirely
@@andrealves2630 I will say WT's simplistic Sim is much less complex than IL2 and DCS but WT has a much more aggressive torque when you are trying to take off. Unless you are flying Fw190 in Il2 that fucker likes to ground loop the instant you turn the engine over lmao.
@@luketroftgruben788 WT has way too much torque both on takeoff and in flight. Guess it compensates for the lack of wind but its just damn annoying. In Il-2 you can actually rest your hands a bit when flying something that doesnt have aileron and rudder trim but in WT you can barely stop holding the stick.
And the 190s in Il-2 will only do ground loops if you dont lock the tailwheel. Pull the stick back, gradually increase throttle while compensating for the torque and you should be just fine. If you dont lock the tailwheel it will do donuts on the entire airfield. When taxiing you just need to be careful with the throttle and the brakes, I dont even lock my tailwheel during the taxi
@@luketroftgruben788 yeah that was years ago it's different now. Mrbool124 I uploaded soem sim footage of FW a8 d14 and ta 152 c3 it takes off like a dream. And ofc avoid taking off under the stall speed so you dont crash with the low stall speed used to let you take off too early and flat spin
@@andrealves2630 yeah I use mouse and keyboard and prefer it over joystick most of the time :)
That was killer :)
Thanks!
That’s really cool
Thx man!
That spitfire pilot is so good.
Absolutely!
Such a great video. INSERT: Supermarine/ hans zimmer
Thx man! Yeah it would have been a nice addition!
This looked like a movie scene.
Haha thx!
Amazing!
Thx man!
Had the spitfire gone into a dive and lured the Ki he would have easily overan him. Instead, the spitfire got itself into a situation where he was in a disadvantage.
He should have dived right away, absolutely, but to escape, not to lure me. He did try hard to lure me and make me overshoot, but the Ki-43 is much lighter than the Spit and thus can slow down much quicker
Was a fun rolling scissor to watch
It was fun to fight this fight too. Great memory!
BRO at first I swear I thought it was real, like a training thing in real life, then I heard the wAr tHunDeR voice lines 🤣
Hahaha nice!
ki43 otsu turn and roll rate is something else.
Indeed!
Dude was drifting in the air
he sure cut right across you guns a lot for an experienced pilot... not that he had a lot of options the rolling scissors was awesome though!
How do I find more dog fights. 90% of the time I’m just flying around the map until I’m out of fuel, then I land, fly to the A point, and still don’t find anybody to kill. It’s always just bombers and attackers.
youre an awesome pilot
Thx man, I appreciate it!
Theres a reason why the IJAAF preferred maneuverability over everything else
Absolutely! At the beginning of the Pacific War the poor Curtiss P-40's were crushed by Zero's and Hayabusa's. By the end the Americans had gained the advantage over most Japanese fighters with much faster aircrafts and BnZ tactics tho
Would it be worth it to get a joystick, control panel, throttle, etc. without owning a VR headset and only using a monitor?
And is using a headset as simple as plugging it into the computer and messing around with some settings?
Great video :)
In deed a great pilots on both sides
Thx man!
Amazing
Thx man!
Dude literally keeps flying into your nose
Nice broooo

You can't even get mad after being shot like that. Because it was solid work on both sides!
Haha yeah dogfights like this one are hard to come by! I'm happy to have encountered such an opponent...
Yeah, pretty much different with get killed by BnZ
wow that was a good dogfight
Thanks, I appreciate it!
I just got a VR setup for war thunder and I played a couple rounds today I've got a pedel thrust stick combo in the post, and am very excited to play it
Anyone with a combo set, I recommend you get a half keyboard and number deck it is rather easy as well as it keeps the desk space from the clutter (knocking things off the desk)
I'm glad for you! Flying in VR is really night and day compared to a screen regarding immersion...
You ought to find this dude and see if he or she would join you in making more vids? Super kickbutt.
I know him a little, maybe we'll do something in the future idk. Nice idea anyway!
good pilot!
Thx man!
He almost made you overshoot which I didn't expect. Good flying both of ya but that spit should have dived out of there immediately imo.
Thx man! Yeah he should have dove right away. I think he mistook my plane for a Ki-84, he killed me in one minutes before...

what's your 'screen shake' value in the options? looks better than mine
HOLY SHIT,great dogfight man
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
What would you suggest the spit should do to avoid getting shot down ? Dive and run?
Yeah, I guess it would be the most likely way to survive, unless the Ki-43 III runs out of ammo (only 300 rounds)
Wicked dog fight man
Haha thx man!
Brutal 👍
Thx man!
Halfway through I was about to say, "omg if he overcooks it and gets shot by the Spit" 😂
Haha I almost did!
@@ATC83 I have this problem in the American captured, Ki-61. Not used to how it compresses at speed and then overshoot. Lol
when pilot of spitfire is good.... he made speed and run away.
Yeah he should have, the thing is I think he mistook my plane for a Ki-84, which is faster than a Spitfire in a dive.
A spitfire should outrun a Ki-43 if he was to dive and maintain the speed right? I have almost zero experience with Japanese aircraft but I always followed the rule of never turn with them and if worse comes to worse you can outrun them on the deck - does this hold true for higher brs with aircraft like the Ki-43?
You are perfectly right: he could have escaped easily if he had dove right away (the Ki-43 wings break at 661 km/h in a dive). The thing is I think he mistook my Ki-43 with a Ki-84 which he couldn't have escaped by diving as the ki-84 is almost as fast as a p-51 and can easily follow a Spit in a dive. It's understandable that he made that mistake as this was a 6.3 game and the Ki-43 is only 4.7. Bottom line: know yourself and know your enemy!
A better answer to your question: if a Spit encounters a Ki-84 he better turn with it as the Spit outturns the Ki-84 in most situations so it really depends on which Japanese plane you are facing... That said your rule is right in most cases.
@@ATC83 Ah very interesting, I'll have to be very careful about ID'ing aircraft and make sure I get it right!
Super skilled pilot, on both ends of this but only one victor.
Thx man, I appreciate it!
How do you roll over above the spit without losing control of your roll? I keep messing it up…
Playing in VR helped me with that type of maneuver as I get a better sense of distances and I guess nothing can replace practice, I have 2700 kills with that plane so I know it by heart.
My wife's grandpa was all excited when I showed this to him he was like "Go get his ass, get his ass! Come on now boy."
His facial expression somewhat changed when he saw the plane being shot at has RAF markings and even yelled "Son of a b*tch! That's a Jap b*stard." When he saw the japanese "meatball" on the aircraft's wing. (He was a Corsair pilot during WW2, got shot down and captured by the japanese in the Philippines he endured 3 years of hell as a POW.)
Wow, what a story! I can't even imagine being a POW in Japanese hands for as long if it was anywhere near like in the "Unbroken" movie... That Spit doesn't have RAF marking tho, it's the Israeli one
good shot :)
Thx!
There is no escape :)

How is your turning so smooth? I try to turn on a twin prop and its just really clunky and glitchy almost.
twin props are usually terrible at low speed dogfights like this, being super heavy, but are great at rate fights
do you use a mouse and keyboear or controller or do you have some plane cockpit setup?
I play with a joystick, a throttle lever and rudder pedals
*AirNation* ✈️
i would do this wwith my vr but i have no joystick and ones ive used are stiff plus i have no head tracking device witch i would love
Surprised that the Spitfire did not hit the deck upon realizing that a Ki-43 was following him. He had a slight height advantage and a definite horsepower advantage. Odd that he didn't use it!
Yes indeed, he should have dove right away
I would love to see a observer perspective of this fight because I know its not going to look nearly as aerobatic as normal mode when people can see all around them.
"Normal mode" is for boys, drop the instructor and come play with men :)
