He is serious abt tanks as well. With tanks, if you go in between the point, or to the far side, you can get a much better angle on the tanks approaching the point.

    Something I learned with the F-104 is using vulture tactics, keeping your speed as high as possible, and making diagonal passes on the map. Also, at higher tier, while they are nice to have, don't rely too much on missiles. Remember, a missile can be chaffed or flared away, but a bullet can't be.

  • @andrew9021
    @andrew9021 7 месяцев назад +8

    Something that was missed and I think is vital is to always maintain situational awareness. This can involve checking your six every now and then, taking time to assess the enemy's numbers and positioning before committing to a fight, and trying to work with your teammates in multiple vs multiple fights. This is still very useful at prop and gun-jet tier, but it is A NECESSITY when fighting at top tier, where the main threat is from missiles.

    • @corvettezone1771
      @corvettezone1771 7 месяцев назад

      I’ve noticed that at higher tier jets (10.7) people just don’t seem to look around as often and probably rely on their RWR. I’ve killed so many people because I have my radar off, get behind them and their RWR won’t pick me up. I can then get directly behind them, launch a missile and run the other way to do it again

  • @mortallychallenged1436
    @mortallychallenged1436 7 месяцев назад +35

    Sound awareness is something I use frequently in Ground and Air RB.
    When I dive on someone and would get close to Rip speed or rudder lock speed anyway, I turn the engine off, so they have no warning.
    But I only do this with planes that turn back on fast.

    One more tip for top tier jets only: If you don’t have a plane with long range missiles and a great radar (F-4S, F-14, all the new planes with Fox-3s, etc) then keep to the deck and use the terrain for cover until the first salvo of missiles flies past you! Keeping low to the ground will confuse missiles and make them miss, and using the terrain well will make them lose track altogether. Stay safe!

  • @RosettaStonedd
    @RosettaStonedd 7 месяцев назад +13

    Love that intro dude
    Probably another tip I’d throw in there is early AIM-9/R-3’s is to lead the missile. You can even use them on prop bombs like B29/TU4 but you have to be within 1KM I believe.
    I would also mention how the side of radar, when trying to use a radar missile, can help you with intercept and knowing your radar missile capabilities.
    Maybe even throw in another tip of using the 3-4th line on the rocket sight on the hud, sometimes lower depending on the rocket (Tiny Tim’s).

    • @mangosuppe8706
      @mangosuppe8706 6 месяцев назад

      Your lead tip is extremely crucial ESPECIALLY for migs and the r3r, at some moments you can (kind of) make the r3r pull 20gs (only for around 50 millisecs or so) if you have proper lead and guidance towards the target getting some insane kills with it

    Having a good internet connection helps a lot too. Ping and Lag killed me back when I still played the game. I think it was in the patch 1.3 to 1.4 days, around the time when tanks were first introduced, but when the game was still mostly a WW2 era "flight simulator".
    I learned a lot about air combat. Watched long and detailed tutorial video series by RUclipsrs like "RamJB" and others, learned all about Energy Fighting, Boom & Zoom, air combat maneuvers (like Displacement Rolls, High and Low YoYos, Hammerheads aso.) and I dare say I got pretty good at executing those.
    My defensive flying was pretty good. I never really lost any 1 on 1 fight even against people who had the energy advantage.
    The problem was that I just couldn't kill anything. I couldn't hit stuff. People flew through my tracers without taking damage and I even had rubber banding issues sometimes while at the same time I died from shots that really didn't look like they should have hit me.
    There have been battles where I flew together with friends and I was playing bait, keeping whole fur balls of enemies busy, dodging 6 or more guys without getting hit, while my buddies picked them off like bats catching bugs buzzing around a street light at night, with me being the street light.
    It sucked having shitty stats and looking like a total failure while at the same time routinely outmaneuvering people with 100 times my kill count.

      Also one thing I would add is to experiment with the plane you are using and see if bombing or dogfighting gets you more rp or so (depending on what you need). This is more of a tip to help the grind, but it's good to know which plane is better at getting sl and which is better at gaining rp.
      P.S. all planes have different percentage bonuses for rp and sl, be sure to check the stat card

    Somewhat ironically I guess, the best advice I ever got for War Thunder was from the 2008 movie about The Red Baron, from which Manfred von Richtofen specifically says "I only attack if I can win". It seems obvious sure, but when you really commit to that mentality it not only increases your effectiveness in matches, it also forces you to think more tactically about the fights you insert yourself into; even if someone on the other team LOOKS all by their lonesome, you track where the closest friendly is to them and what angle they are flying at. That helped me a ton.

    sometimes when doing the task for strike planes, I will do a gentle climbs, get to about 5-6k alt (over the starting alt of the ground level), take a pass at a strike plane, check for enemies if there is time for a second pass. but always maintain good speed. flay back towards friendlies. this will cut the number of tickets they can take and often draw enemy to lower alt under your team. this is where I will climb out he back wait for the match to get lower and I will have the alt over them.
    in a strike plane I will often go way off to the side and wait for the fight dwindle numbers of their side or send many of them back to base. this is when I will go in for the ground targets. make long runs across the field and not making 2-3 or 12 passes in an area. this keeps my speed up (not burning speed in turns for passes) and not in one area for long enough to present yourself.
    Climbing is less useful and often dangerous in later tier jet matches. when I first got there I was in the habit of climb climb climb. that's when the any aspect or radar missile would eat me up, often from some guy under the radar. with the thrust of the later jets you can have altitude in moments. I NEVER made it into combat at over 15k. they higher ones always get yoinked first. After changing my K:D ratio drastically changed for high tier. missiles, radar locks & high thrust change EVERYTHING.

    Pretty cool video, well I'm sure they have been a lot of those for WT but I guess most players don't bother with the old ones.
    That said, I think you forgot some important ones (unless you think they're too obvious) :
    1-1) keybind the "free look/camera" and look around you as much as possible, a lot of player get jumped by enemy they never saw coming. Sound won't help you much in Air RB (unless in clouds) since you'll only ear enemy planes when they're around 1 km from you: at that point it's already too late.
    1-2) learn how to look around with the "free look/camera" you while controling your aircraft (rolling ect.). It's probably the first thing to learn in planes and strictly necessary for defensive flying.
    2) when you're a beginnner, being a good teammate is more important that being greedy and trying to kill everything. So please try learning the basics of teamplay which are :
    2-1) Positionning, it can get pretty deep but for starter : stay close to your allies to be able to help and be helped! Also the slower your aircraft is the closer to your allies you'll need to be to get to them in time to help them.
    2-2) Timing, same thing but for example: if you and an ally attack the same target then don't attack at the same time - especially if you're attacking from the same direction!
    The second player to attack should wait a bit before attacking after its ally, that way the enemy won't be able to avoid your two attacks in the single same manouver.

    10 - Keep in mind flaps actually reduce your turn speed in the long run on most planes (not on all at least in war thunder, so like you said try). But as a general rule, do not use flaps if you do not want to lose speed. Flaps will make you turn harder but eventually slow you down so much that you end up rating slower.
    Essentially, flaps tend to be good in the 1 circle fights. In 2 circle fights (ratefights) you want to use them less since it doesn't matter how hard you turn, only how quickly you go around the circle

    something i learned to do just by playing all teirs (air) is when you notice your pilot starting to loose consciousness, tap your nose down for like 0.5 seconds, it will slowly bring your pilot back and it will allow you to keep holding the turns and be able to get your nose around faster than they'd think

    Helpful tip Rolling scissors is pretty useful at if not getting someone off your tail preventing them taking an accurate shot. Another one is that your convergence should be set between 600-800 depending on the plane as any less than that will lead to longer range shots being incapable of hitting, 600M means at 1.2KM they are back where your guns are, 800M means 1.6KM range before they come back. If you have a nose mounted gun that is off center it will pull your plane in that direction, be mindful of this you don't want to pull your nose off target because you fired too much.

    7:48 As a ground main -- but this still applies to air and even naval -- the absolute best way to learn about enemy vehicles is to play them, or vice versa; learn how to play them by fighting them. The best example I can give is the trial and error, and "research", of learning how to kill a Tiger with guns like the American 75mm and 76mm. After I got really used to this, when it came time to play the Tiger, I was able to best angle it against American 75mm and 76mm guns.

    I can say, without a doubt, that keeping high altitude doesn’t ALWAYS matter. I started the US tree a couple months ago and after I got the F2A, I realized that it works so so SOOO great at low altitudes. Pay attention to your stats, because some planes actually handle better at low altitudes

    I used to play this, and really wish I could again, but I got so frustrated with it. I liked the idea of playing a bomber, but every time I did, someone would just fly up and kill me while my defensive guns never engaged. If I tried to man the guns myself, the plane flew straight and level and was just a huge target. When flying a fighter, I was always getting screwed by 8-1 odds.
    When driving tanks, I got tired of getting killed in one shot that grazed the machinegun on the front of the tank. When sailing boats, I got tired of being oneshotted by enemies I couldn't even target, because I had to leadfire them so much they weren't even on my screen (meaning I could't see if I was hitting or missing).
    It just got to be no fun at all.

    so I wanna correct you on something on your #3 topic, I found that being to dainty and not wanting to lose my plane takes up more time and waists chances on taking out enemies, thus dropping into the bottom of the scoreboard. what I do is pick the most maneuverable planes and I charge at a larger group of enemy fighters and wound as many as possible in the hopes that my team has my back, whatever is left over I will go back and finish everyone off, and move to the next group, biplanes are great fighters, and can do a lot that single wing fighters cant. it doesn't matter if I get assists over kills, I will still make a lot of points and make it to the top three on the board, and it helps the team out when I wound a bunch of the enemy making them easier to kill and remove planes from the enemy side, giving us a greater chance on winning that battle. I have been able to get first place almost every time making about 15 to 19 kills when everyone else if they are luck get 5 kills. thus giving me a lot of SLS and RP from each battle, so I do more with burning through all my planes vs trying to not get shot down at all and maybe take out a plane or two, I have seen too many new players try to save there plane and avoid larger enemy groups, and then they become an easy target, I just go straight into the mess and give them thee 1 and 2. you just have to run into the fight not run from it.

    It’s funny cuz I started playing war thunder about a week ago I’m at 3.7 I’ve picked up on a lot of this stuff as I’m playing or noticed some stuff like, “man this bomber is lighting me up i need to get under it” or “I already know this guy is coming straight at me I need to roll before he gets too close”. I love this game it’s so addictive. The progression through tiers is rough but the progression through modifications makes it enjoyable I love that you can upgrade your plane and crew skills. I used to play a lot of air games growing up like air conflicts, blazing angles, heroes over Europe and the pacific… and this game blows it away. I wish I had a VR for my Xbox

    A big one I would recommend to the jet pilots out there is to learn the missiles. Understanding what should, and what shouldn't, hit is one of the most important features of top/high tier. Understanding that a r60 has poor range, or that even the all-aspect sidewinders shouldn't be used in a head-on is the difference between getting a kill every game and getting one once a week.

    Sometimes it is better to go full vertical when an enemy has less energy than you. If you keep a slow semi roll going they tend to find it hard to shoot before they run out of energy. You will as well however so pull your rudder hard and put out landing flaps as you turn over to get your guns on them faster.

    • @rendycoya
      @rendycoya 5 месяцев назад

      if youre in a bf109 and have less energy againts an enemy like a P51 ,its also a good idea to go full vertical,because you got far better control there and youll probably get a shot before he does

    Pro Tip:
    Decide your role in the fight.
    Not every plane is multipurpose.
    If you want to dogfight get a fast maneuverable plane and go high waiting for opportunities to attack.
    If you are going after bombers get a plane with strong weapons. Get away from any dogfight and wait for the bomber that will be vulnerable.
    If you are after ground targets get a heavy armor plane with rockets and bombs and stay away from anything else than your ground target. Hit and go back to your base.

    Protip: Don't use bombers like fighter jets, please, thats not how it works mate.
    Protip#2: Don't try to attack the enemy directly when he is behind you, try to dodge all potential shots either from running away or actually spining around(using the keys on keyboard) and circling your crosshair(it should look like if your airplane is spinning like a tornado)
    Protip#3: Dont be toxic to new players, please, especially those who are better then you at something in the game.
    Protip#4: if you feel like the enemy is too far but is going through straightline, try to go behind and hit em' with shots from up to down so that one of those shots hit them and destroys them.
    Protip#5: Try to enjoy the game instead of just playing it to kill. You'll be better of having by just enjoying the game itself.
    Protip#6: If you want to be more accurate, go to cockpit view so you could be shooting all bullets at the target.

    Here is a pro tips that I managed to collect
    In top tier jets always take the Flank especially if the jet that you are flying doesn't have the Best Flight Perfomance
    2.for US 50 cal MG's always fire at a close range around 0.7 or 0.8
    3.back to jets with missiles always be patient when firing it if the target maneuver or is flaring go for a gunshot
    4. Don't Hold the Trigger always fire in burst
    5.if your aircraft is damaged Don't hesitate to return for repairs
    6. If you Can't boom and zoom an agile enemy aircraft then opt for a hit and run tactics which you climb and dive on an enemy and build separation and climb back up
    7.when your enemy send a missile to your way always look if he is locking you using your RWR or not
    If you get a warning stay close to the ground and flare and chaff if not turn your after burner off while flaring and changing direction this works well with IRCCM missiles in top tier

    • @Takamiya_Mio
      @Takamiya_Mio 23 дня назад

      disclaimer: DO NOT reduce your thrust when missile marker has NO TRAIL.
      You can confirm what missile is chasing you, and there is only two smokeless air-to-air missiles in the game: AIM-9M & AAM-3.
      And those missile does not affect by your engine thrust. We call these IRCCM type as ‘Tracking Suspension’, and all you need is to ‘turn off’ their seeker by dropping flare continuously while turning opposite direction.
      There ate bunch of IRCCM evading tutorial already and you may check it.

    Sound awareness is specially useful in sim, since you're forced into first person with a very limited field of view (noticeably in low 6) you won't be able to see much, added to the fact that the game doesn't show you any markers, its not surprising many new players die from a surprise attack. One way i mitigate this is by opening the cockpit, that way i can hear planes just like if i were in third person

    Situational awareness is how those brawlers dive into the cloud of low flying aircraft in the center of the map and manage to come out of the game with more kills than anyone else. Just being aware of the planes locations, whos got tunnel vision chasing another plane, where you are when the next wave of planes is incoming and slipping into the back so they target someone else, etc. Sure it's suicidal at the end of the day, not wise for newbies, but not everyone is pulling a plane they want to have to climb for 5 minutes every time they want to get 1 kill either. XP And sometimes a head on is the best option. If some flimsey wooden japanese plane is charging me with it's lil 2 20mm and 2 7.62's or even worse armament, and I know I've lost all my energy and there no out running or out turning him why not lay into him with my say, 4 20mm or 20's and 30's? I'm pretty good at playing air chicken, you just have to judge/balance your situation and practice.

    "taking too much fuel"
    If you're not in a rocket fighter, always take minimum fuel. You're probably going to be shot down or have to RTB from jamming, breaking your combat flaps, getting shredded by gunfire, fuel or coolant leak, or out of ammo before you run out of fuel. Especially at low BR.
    I have more often successfully RTB'd mid combat from losing a wing or major section of the tail plane than from running out of fuel without a leak.
