According to Iger, George Lucas doesn’t know the understand the pressure of making a Star Wars film. Think about that statement. The man who made and went through Episode I at release doesn’t understand the pressures of Star Wars. A man who probably sold it for that very same pressure. Disney’s disconnect with the fans and reality is baffling.
PixelKatana I can understand the pressure Iger and LF were under due to the PT and their polarized response, but I agree with you. There is absolutely no excuse. When you decide to make a movie of at the time the most popular film franchise in the world, you do it knowing it comes with a lot of baggage. Millions of passionate fans around the world. And yes, you will NEVER please everyone. That is a simple fact of life. But for Iger to say that really showcases a level of callousness. You didn't think that George understood the backlash and hatred he got? Of course, he did. But unlike Iger, Kennedy and everyone else, he was somewhat open to criticism. The fact he removed Jar Jar Binks should say a lot. Overall, this is Iger trying to cover up his butt. For once the ST is done, there will be documentaries made about this. You don't just take a franchise as revered as SWs and tank it without there being some story/ behind the scenes drama.
The audacity is sickening. I can hear Kreia and Dooku forcing down black bile from within the netherworld of the force. Starwars should be taken from them effective immediately.
We did not see it, so we dont know, but if its closer to funky new stuff like that of the New and old expanded universes, id be happy to see an new trillogy that is mostly lucas ideas, or at least an sequel trillogy with the most important stuff lucas wrote in that outline incorperated into it
It's awful what they did. I wanted to see George Lucas' outlines. From what I can gather, George's story involved: A) Reunifying the galaxy from a fractured state of galactic gangs, warlords, the Imperial Remnant, the Alliance and the new bad faction led by an elusive dark lord B) A battle in the Force over the quest for immortality involving Luke versus Plageuis C) Exploration of the Force via artefacts, the first Temple and the ancient Whills, higher beings who tried to influence the destiny of beings travelling by way of the Force and the midichlorians in all of us 1. Luke Skywalker, the legend, trained by Master Yoda and Obi Wan, two of the greatest Masters of the old order, would "pass on what he had learned", fulfilling his Master's request, and begin to form a new Jedi Order. He would go on a quest in order to discover more about the will of the Force and how to defeat the arrival of a hidden dark sider. In time he would defeat this person (Plageuis) with the help of his Father Anakin, and restore Balance once and for all time. 2. The First Jedi Temple being a golden dome on a remote planet 3. Kira, a young apprentice of Luke, possibly his daughter 4. The next generation of Jedi students and Skywalkers 5. Jedi Hunters led by a red Twilek who would seduce a young Solo to the dark based on restoring order to a lawless galaxy in need of a single government 6. A dark lord (Plageuis) who had bided his time and is in search of Infinity Stone style Force artefacts to open a portal to the heart of the Force itself and become truly immortal and omnipotent 7. Princess Leia using her diplomacy to form an Alliance of the Imperials and Rebel Alliance to form a New Republic by saga's end and a return to Coruscant and the Jedi Temple. 8. Luke making the ultimate sacrifice by journey's end to hand over the reins to his children and Leia. Redemption of the Solo and even the Twilek. 9. An overall story over the saga and new ships and worlds with ascending fountains/waterfalls 10. Explanations of the galaxy, instead of randomness. No Rey. No rubbish characters and no untrained Force users.
Yes I have, the story goes Darth Kennedy with her minions killed Star Wars while George was asleep, ironic George could save and grow Star Wars from 1977-2012, but he could not save it from a evil 🐁, sad and disgusting.
"Did you ever hear the tragedy of George Lucas the Wise? I thought not. It's not a story Disney would tell you. It's a Hollywood legend. George Lucas was a visionary director, so powerful and so wise he created a franchise that redefined the movie industry. He had such a knowledge of the craft that he could even keep his own franchise from suffering viewer fatigue. His cinematography and storytelling, some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he sold his franchise to his apprentice, Disney. Then Disney killed his franchise in his sleep. It's ironic....he could save his franchise from a slow death, but not from Disney."
Darth Kennedy to Jar Jar Abrams, ( JJ, I will be your tool Soyboy, just help me blame the fans for our short comings, I can't live with being a copy cat hack.) Darth Kennedy replys( The power to blame the fans for our incompetence is a power only I have achieved, but if we work together I am sure we can blame them again, Hence forth you shall be know as Darth Jar Jar) JJ ( Thank you my mistress) Darth Kennedy ( Rise my not so young aprentence and go forth and destroy what little is left of Star Wars legacy.) Darth JJ ( Yes my unattractive mistress.)
Also, no matter what Iger says, you can go watch the press announcement right now of Kathleen Kennedy saying the important thing was protecting and honoring Lucas characters and vision. They straight up lied to him. He has every right to feel bamboozled.
PixelKatana he should never have fell for it frankly. I pity him and loathe Disney, but you can’t be surprised when a rabid animal bites you after letting it into your home so to speak.
Really revolting with these people. Either acknowledge and apologize for your fuck ups or own up to them. This is just a sad attempt from Iger to share less of the blame as he should, falsely cleaning his closet and deflecting the fact that he allowed the ST to be the way it is while he had outlines from the former owner and promised him to give some respect for his work. That's a really prick-like way to do things...
Southslice At least Disney would still have some decent creations after Roy left. Now it’s all just sequels, live action remakes, live action remakes of sequels, and sequels of live action remakes.
George is a creator but he's also one of the savviest business men ever. No one makes Star Wars the way he did, owning it and getting the rights to all the merchandising without being smart. Nonetheless, he's said that he'd only sell to Disney. If he didn't sell, I doubt he would have done the sequel trilogy himself. So on the hand you can feel for him about "betrayed". On the other hand, you can see it from Disney's standpoint. They bought the rights, they're going to make the films their way. Would it have been better to follow George's outlines? Sure, if respecting him was more important. Could the outlines have been garbage? We'll probably never know.
Imagine if someone plagiarized a script you wrote but with stupid humor, zero passion, and absolutely wooden characters. You’d rightfully be a little pissed too.
Playing it safe is an obvious strategy, but I agree they overdid it. Clearly they were worried about kneejerk reactions to prequel elements. Also, why do people keep bring up TPM having 'half an hour of politics'? It was FIVE minutes. The fact it was about TAXATION was the yawn inducing bit...
Absolutely Studio..... I hope you know that in the star wars universe that hyperspace jumps can not be used as a WEAPON! Visuals can be nice but a story makes the movie.
Absolutely Studios the pratorian guard fight was badly choreographed and the Luke vs Kyle fight wasn’t even a fight and in the end got Luke’s character wrong
@@AbsolutelyStudios you do realize that praetorian fight with Rey would had killed her if you watched it carefully. That just shows how Johnson and the rest of the Disney fools have no clue on what they're doing.
@Brainjock no idea if it'll make a difference, but I for one decided not to waste a single cent on anything Disney star wars related after leaving the theatre when I saw the last jedi
@Brainjock My opinion mirrors that of @prof 1, however, I believe I was talking about an intellectual property not a person or persons of a collective. I would never assume a characteristic of a person or persons I do not know. Please don't add to the 'toxicity'. Plus, I was just paraphrasing a line from a superior film from a superb franchise. My disdain is with Disney, not the person or the persons of said collective. TLDR: Disney star wars bad; Lucas star wars good.
@Brainjock then how do we get a better movie? We were not satisfied with the last 2 and if boycotting this next one isn't the way then what is? How do we get the message across?
@Brainjock I don't get a fuck if a boycott will get me a better trilogy or not. If you're A list director you should care about your fans and don't mess with people who pay your fucking rent. That boycotts affect consumer behavior very much. This is the one of the reasons why Disney losing money on Star Wars today . Don't forget Star Wars sales keep dropping for Disney LoL. In the end, it's not your decision how to make a SW movie or not. Everything is about money.
Rian Johnson used a lot of Lucas plot, and did original things, and is quite obvious Lucas liked his, and all other post-sale movies more than The Force Awakens...
I think Iger is very dumb to release this slightly before episode 9. Now we have undeniable confirmation that George Lucas himself doesn't like the sequel trilogy. That alone might wake more people up to the terrible state Star Wars is in!
Did y’all ever think that some people don’t really give shit if George likes it. If people like the fucking movies then they like the fucking movies. Also why should I feel bad for someone who got paid 4 fucking million dollars and was told that they were not obligated to follow the outline? Like come on
He felt betrayed at the time of the buyout, now he has different thoughts. He thought the force awakens had nothing new but he said the last jedi was beautifully made so he doesn't hate the trilogy as a whole since the third one didn't even come out
They bought George's outlines for two reasons: 1 - To fool George into selling Lucasfilm. 2 - So George can never release his outlines to the public in the future. (Imagine how much those outlines would fuel the fandom menace today and shame Disney star wars.) Disney is Sith now. I hope they go bankrupt.

@Mike Morgan Maybe to you and people that follow this channel, but the vast majority of Earth' population had a mixed reaction that only festered over time. It was very different from the OT, as I said. His movies would not be the same as even the Preques.
The reason the Prequels is my favorite trilogy is because you could see how much George Lucas truly loves exploring his work. He gave Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader an impressive story even if it wasn't always articulated in the best way. And making us love Obi Wan more than was possible in the OT. I wish that honestly his Sequels were made, and then the movies JJ and RJ made afterward were free to be their own thing outside the main Skywalker Saga.
Tori K I never looked at it this way but this comment is so spot on. I think half of why I love the prequels as much as the OT is you can feel the love Lucas has for it all. He was exactly like us. In love with Star Wars.
Lucas may not be a flawless filmmaker, but his ambition to improve and drive to create something new each time was always inspiring. Hard agree Disney should have let him be way more involved for the finale of HIS story.
When the actual creator of Star Wars calls you out, then you know you messed up. Seriously it's a moment like this that showcased that Disney truly had no idea of the mess they created and now it's too late to even fix things for everyone around the Star Wars fandom in terms of the films that is.
Not always... Look what happens with Rambo Last Blood, where the creator of Rambo is bashing the new film and is agreeing with the stupid critics reviews...
My opinion exactly. As flawed as the prequels were, but ypou really can't blame Lucas for not trying to extend his own universe. Scenery-wise the prequels were a vast expansion of the lore, even the clumsy tries (midi-chlorians, anyone?), I definitely cannot say the same for the sequels, where everything is the same, just bigger.
Why should _we_ be blamed for disliking subpar movies? It's not like you're some prophet who knew that disliking the Prequels would lead to something worse and who's now saying, "See, I told you so." And idk what anyone says; the Prequels are not great movies. We didn't know it would get worse though. My main point is this: is it _our_ fault for giving valid criticism to both the Prequels and the Sequels, or is it _their_ fault for not giving us movies that live up to the legacy of the first Trilogy?
@@soriacx My problem with the Prequel Trilogy was less with the story as the editorial decisions within the story. The stuff in the animated Clone Wars series was great and the films would have been epic if they had included more of that, and less Jar-Jar and Anakin/Amidala romance.
Also, even the idea of having 'politics' wasn't BAD as such. it's that the TPM tied it to TAXATION that made it seem dumb and dull. In the new trilogy, they veer SO far away from politics they can barely clarify the position of First Order - Resistance - New Republic...
Who knows. Maybe someday we'll get a Comic book treatment of it like we did with "The Star Wars" comics which were based off an early script for Star Wars.
Tsukuyomi99 if George really cared about his story, he wouldn’t have sold it to the evil Di$ney corporation. They’re basically the evil empire of the entertainment world.
@J T Why wouldn’t he? So many loud fans were bashing him for the prequels! He probably thought it was the best course of action with others in charge with his outline or ideas would be best for fans.
Kay Zeama regardless of why he sold it, he knew full well that selling it meant the buyer (Disney) would have every right to do whatever the hell they want with it. Did he really think a corporation like Disney would really respect his wishes once Star Wars became 100% their property? No! That’s not how things work. They own it now and they are doing everything they can to change it to make it theirs. Anybody with common sense would be able to see that coming. George, of all people, has absolutely no right to complain. Especially if his reason for selling it was because the fans hurt his feelings and he therefore wanted to disown the whole thing. He needs to move on and let it go. It’s not his property or his problem anymore. Here’s an analogy: If you bought a business (say, a restaurant) from somebody, and they sold it to you because they couldn’t come up with a menu that the customers were satisfied with, would you let that person dictate to you what you can and can’t add to the menu once you have full ownership of the restaurant?

Imagine being a young film producer in the 70s. You have a dream film you want to create, and you finally find a way to make it. And you do. And the audience loves it. So much, in fact, you make a sequel, and then a trilogy. A giant part of society loves your work. You feel proud of yourself for finally accomplishing what you always wanted to your whole life. And then, 16 years later, you make a prequel trilogy to tell how your first 3 movies came to be. While a little less positively received, many people still love it. You’re living a fantasy, one where you thought your dreams and aspirations would’ve never cane true. But they did. And then some soulless corporation buys your franchise and taints it with SJW pandering, plothole-filled nonsense that not only drives away tons of people from YOUR franchise, but divides the remainder of the community in half. Don’t worry, George. I’ll always think that canon Star Wars ends at VI
The Prequels didn’t “look and feel like Star Wars” to me. But they ARE Star Wars. They actually connected something new with what we already knew. They showed us new and unique worlds, creatures, and stories. They made me want to see more Anakin and Obi-Wan, and I got Clone Wars. I wanted more of the Jedi Council. I actually wanted more of the backstory of the empire’s rise. The OT was brilliant because it took Lucas’s story and put it in the hands of competent directors. Disney could’ve done that, or at least taken the concepts Lucas put forth. But no, they would rather alienate a large fan base and waste billions on theme park expansions that fail.
JJ he’s an extremely competent filmmaker. He’s a very talented director. And they had people in place to guide the direction story wise of the Star Wars saga going forward. Kasdan Should’ve taken up the majority of that role in my opinion. The failure of Disney was to allow Johnson to basically do whatever the hell he wanted with that second film. Once JJ was out they had to proceed very carefully in terms of the direction of the story. They obviously didn’t. And it fucked everything up.
Leo As Much As I Appreciate the Prequels they were a Failure Crappy Scripts a Visonary Directors ego run amok with No One to reign him in and the fans didn't like them look up people vs George Lucas
@Star Trek Theory You have it backwards. The fans betrayed George. That's why he sold Star Wars to Disney, becasue he felt the fans wouldn't accept anything he made after all the hate the prequels got, but he still wanted the saga to continue. Many fans were happy when he sold it because they thought Disney would "save" Star Wars.
"That was never a condition of our agreement when I was giving Star Wars to this mouse house!" "Perhaps you think that you are being treated... un fairly?" "....No." "Good. it would be unfortunate if I had to leave a garrison (of lawyers) here." "This deal is getting worse all the time..."
The majority of Tolkien fans don't consider Christopher Tolkien's work to be a part of canon, despite him working with his father while his father was alive, doing his present work based off his father's notes, and being the owner of the Tolkien estate. Why am I bringing this up? Well, it's because if a man who respects and owns the work he is releasing isn't a canon creator, then what right does Disney have to call their Star Wars movies canon? Especially when they dont even adhere to the definition (work created by or approved by the original author). George does not approve of these movies, and the right to declare them canon is his alone. That right can never be sold, it can only be earned.
Unlike books, movies are a work of multiple persons; for example some actors returned, Dave Filoni is helping, the dude that did the prequels VFX wrote Rogue One, Lawrence Kasdan wrote Solo (Im pretty sure his work in The Force Awakens was minimal). The Last Jedi was better than The Force Awakens despite not having an original trilogy writer helping.
@@rosvel92 It is true in the book world as well. For example, James Patterson. However, that does not negate the fact that the term canon belongs to the original creator, and the people he approves. Another example is the Boruto series, which is approved by the Naruto creator and is called canon by him. Naruto had many people working on it to help the primary creator, however it is still his right to decide what is canon in spite of the other people who worked on it.
@@rosvel92 in fact, the original use of the word 'canon' always allowed for multiple authors. Biblical canon, which is recognized as the work by the "authorative" writers. Now, who exactly makes up that group of authors is disputed. But just because someone has the legal ability to write a book and add it to the bible, doesn't make that new book part of 'biblical canon'. In a thousand years, who knows? But this is how we define it now. And with biblical canon, one of the reasons why a few books were removed from the 'canon' is because of major contradictions. So Disney Star Wars fails on that front as well.
Also look at the EU. Despite the fact that many authors were granted legal permission to write Star Wars stories, and profit from them, that does not make the EU canon. If I had the ability to, i would canonize the EU personally. But it is Lucas who denied the EU the right to be canon, saying that they are stories in a parallel universe outside of his film canon. That being said, that is a sort of acknowledgement that some would argue gives the EU a type of "secondary canon" status. Disney Star Wars, however, has received no such acknowledgement, and has actually been heavily condemned by Lucas. Legal right to make a story, and the ability to make something canon, are different things.
That's a nice sentiment, but I'm afraid that the facts are that whoever actually owns the subject matter legally does in fact have the right to declare Canon regardless of how the original Creator/owner feels about it! If you think this is bad, then research the history of the Jerry Siegel estate and their constant lawsuits against DC Comics over the ownership of Superman...
How do they not acknowledge Heir to the Empire. While I haven't read them myself. It's pretty obvious this book trilogy had a huge impact on Star Wars. It was what basically got the ball rolling for the Expanded Universe which revived interest in Star Wars and then got George Lucas to make the Prequel Trilogy. Along with the Prequels we got even more Star Wars books, comics and video games. Then we also get Star Wars The Clone Wars. Heir to the Empire is the butterfly that spawned a whole new era for the franchise.
Screw Disney. The Expanded Universe is how Star Wars went on after ROTJ. Sure, it was dumb and straight up goofy at times, but it was also epic, and sprawling, and filled with both the characters we knew and loved and brand new characters that took the legacy and moved it forward. Forget these garbage fire new movies, go enjoy the Heir to the Empire series, the New Jedi Order, Legacy of the Force and the others. Those are Star Wars.
I'm noticing that in every photo I see the two together, Bob is smiling and looking happy and confident, while Lucas never smile and looks sad and worried. That really tells everything about their relationship.

And the parts of TLJ that aren’t a complete mockery are also poor execution of Lucas’ original ideas... like the planet that WASN’T snow.... just another white substance that totally looks like it.

Bad writing like Poe is dead, master pilot level maneuvers despite only practicing insimulations?, the map to Luke landed on the same planet as the Millenium Falcon, and later they casually found Han Solo twice (in a galaxy sized galaxy, and in a planet sized Starkiller Base what are the odds?), Captain Phasma just gave up fighting less than Jar Jar Binks, the Starkiller base is so weak even some pilots without plans and without The Force destroyed it, Kylo Ren is defeated despite a life time of training without a plot explanation, not a single explained character motivation, all characters are name swapped A New Hope clones, not a single character motivation is explained and all are left for the sequel so that leaves all the characters not knowing who they are and as such no character development happens. I could feel the betrayal oozing out of the new trilogy. George was lead on and manipulated. And we all know what thier new direction was ...and they sure didnt need George to do what they did. I have a feeling that JJ Abrams is even worse than Rian Johnson. It was never about protecting the legacy. It was about taking power away from Lucas in any way they could, and after they got it pushed him aside because he didnt fit thier identity politics narrative. Betrayal was just part of it. He was much more than betrayed. The outlines for the trilogy were bought and paid for just so they could quash them. I imagine George was furious! All the more reason to forget about Disney Star Wars. Itll just make me angry to watch.
I hope to one day see George's original outline released as a comic, or animated movie, in a similar way to how the original script for Star Wars was, a couple of years ago. I highly doubt it, but I hope.
There are so many easy ways Disney could win the fandom back... by releasing the theatrical versions of the original movies in 4k blu ray, by making a movie trilogy adapting the Thrawn trilogy (even a fully CGI one using the same technology that brought Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher to Rogue One, but the entire movie like that)... or finally adapting George’s outlines for the final episodes. Any of those options would require throwing the present sequel trilogy in the trash, but... come on, that is what we want. Just dew it.
*Matthew Noneya* Maybe if RoS, Mandalorian and everything else they produce from now on fails so hard that they either relent or sell the company to someone else or maybe even back to Lucas. In any case, not anytime soon.
This is what I pretty much made out from what George said earlier in interviews, though it's still sad to hear. On the other hand, if George had gone ahead and made the sequels himself, the movies would probably get slated at least just as much as the prequels did by the same people. I'd take a quirky, weird, sandfilled Lucas sequel over Disney's any day.
I have liked a lot of your videos, but I have to say this is the one I think tops them all. You hit so much truth. You stated what us true fans feel. I completely agree with your comments here. Thank you for saying them.
Well, JJ consulted Lucas for episode 9 and Palpatine's seemingly back, so perhaps the whills and George's original plans will be honored in some shape or form. No one's ever really gone
Ugh...no one is pure here. Iger for misleading Lucas, Kennedy forwarding her SJW ideology, Abrams for lacking the courage to to tell a new story, pumpkin head Johnson for taking a giant dump on one of the greatest characters of all time and Lucas for being butthurt that no one wanted his dumb stories that doubled down on his abortion of movies collectively known as the Prequels. Midichlorians again?!?! Just proves the point that no one really understands Star Wars anymore beyond seeing it as a cash cow instead of one of the greatest examples of modern mythology ever crafted.
Jay Sway When Is The Last time we got to watch the original Unaltered trilogy oh right 1995 When George Lucas told Us Screw you But yeah Hate Disney Genius
So George nailed the review of "The Force Awakens". The only person in Disney that gets and understands Star Wars is Dave Filoni, producer and writer for Star Wars; Rebels. George should have had it written into the contract that his outlines would be used and he would be consulted for new movies storylines. DiCney screwed him and us over.
Great video. I think the real betrayal has everything to do with Kathy Kennedy. She’s Lucas’ protege. She publicly promised to keep Star Wars in line with Lucas’ ideas. And she sold his screenplays to white slavers.
I have no doubt that there is more to the story than will ever be made public but it really shows were the issues started right at day 1. I too would also have loved to have seen those outlines lucas had i have no doubt the outlines would have been great concepts as that was never an issue for lucas it was always more his execution of those ideas that needed reining in
Disney bought one of the greatest stories ever told. What did they do with it? They made movies that proved to be so shit, that even die hard fans would not pay to watch it.
This all just confirms the suspicions that were floating around ever since that "white slavers" comment. The real takeaway is that Iger's words implicitly confirm that the sequel trilogy is the disaster fans believe it to be - certainly more of a disaster than the mainstream media are willing to admit. More importantly, Iger's image must have taken a hit if he's reminiscing in his book on his time at Disney while still managing the company. It's a ride of a lifetime, but Star Wars is failing as an IP on all fronts, his company has become the biggest recycling plant in the world, and the skies don't seem so blue and sunny above the MCU world. By the time Iger leaves Disney the more appropriate title for his book would've been Touchdown Conversion Fumble of a Lifetime.
"He wasn't wrong, but he also wasn't appreciating the pressure we were under to give ardent fans a film that felt quintessentially Star Wars." We have a film like that. It's called Star Wars.
Personally I think doing a redo of the originals with social messaging OR Lucas's crazy sequel ideas were massive mistakes. They should have done something closer to the Thrawn Trilogy as the sequel trilogy, released Lucas's vision as an animated film for the sole purpose of preserving the creators idea of where he wanted to go (but acknowledge it wasn't what fans fell in love with), and then done new stories in new time periods/worlds which can have a few social messages (but not push it to an extreme like The Last Jedi did and instead be more tactful like Endor representing Vietnam War where's it's not obvious on first watch but "Oh..." Once someone points it out).

6. A dark lord (Plageuis) who had bided his time and is in search of Infinity Stone style Force artefacts to open a portal to the heart of the Force itself and become truly immortal and omnipotent

@Mike Morgan No, but that doesn't mean I would like George Lucas' sequels either.

Not always... Look what happens with Rambo Last Blood, where the creator of Rambo is bashing the new film and is agreeing with the stupid critics reviews...
Right there with you George.
After everyone complained about and criticized the Prequels, now they see the error of their ways.
No. I can still criticize the Prequels for their flaws AND hate on the new trilogy for its flaws. This isn't an either/or situation.
I'll take Lucas' version of the sequel trilogy over Disney's any day.
Who knows. Maybe someday we'll get a Comic book treatment of it like we did with "The Star Wars" comics which were based off an early script for Star Wars.

Why wouldn’t he?

It's quite sad, I used to really enjoy Star Wars but not much anymore
Not it doesn't. There's a lot of good pre-Disney books and games that takes place after Jedi.

@@nacht_kaperschiff2670 same rotj was the last "movie" the rest of the canon is from the books, games, shows, and other media not tainted by Disney

Betrayed George and betrayed us
m.ruclips.net/video/l291zs8rLuM/видео.html
@Star Trek Theory how could he
@Star Trek Theory You have it backwards. The fans betrayed George. That's why he sold Star Wars to Disney, becasue he felt the fans wouldn't accept anything he made after all the hate the prequels got, but he still wanted the saga to continue. Many fans were happy when he sold it because they thought Disney would "save" Star Wars.
"That was never a condition of our agreement when I was giving Star Wars to this mouse house!"
"Perhaps you think that you are being treated... un fairly?"
"....No."
"Good. it would be unfortunate if I had to leave a garrison (of lawyers) here."
"This deal is getting worse all the time..."
I cringed so much when Thor read "creating the perfect bridge", I was ready to jump forward.

Mara Jade. All those awesome worlds that he created.

Having Kathleen Kennediddy lie to his face probably didn't help things, either.
I hope to one day see George's original outline released as a comic, or animated movie, in a similar way to how the original script for Star Wars was, a couple of years ago. I highly doubt it, but I hope.
Disney disliked this video
There are so many easy ways Disney could win the fandom back... by releasing the theatrical versions of the original movies in 4k blu ray, by making a movie trilogy adapting the Thrawn trilogy (even a fully CGI one using the same technology that brought Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher to Rogue One, but the entire movie like that)... or finally adapting George’s outlines for the final episodes.
Any of those options would require throwing the present sequel trilogy in the trash, but... come on, that is what we want. Just dew it.

"He wasn't wrong, but he also wasn't appreciating the pressure we were under to give ardent fans a film that felt quintessentially Star Wars."
We have a film like that.
I couldn't agree more on this video. You really hit the nail on head.
