    It's funny how people want George Lucas' version of movies post-Return of the Jedi but when George Lucas released movies in his vision (prequels) people criticized him harshly to the point it discouraged him. I'm not saying the prequels were perfect (bad dialogue, quantitizing the force/demystifying the force) but I would argue a huge amount of the hate come from nostalgia. Going back to my main point, now that fans see what Disney has done with the franchise, they want George Lucas back. As the saying goes you don't know what you like until it's gone. As Palpatine and I would say to fans wanting George back: "Ironic"

    • @MrGamefan77
      @MrGamefan77 6 лет назад +15

      BOB IGOR RUINED STAR WARS NOT JUST KATHLEEN What I mean is in the original trilogy, there wasn't a concrete explanation for the origins of the force. Yes they explain the force is the energy that binds all living beings but that explanation left your imagination free in what the force actually is which is what touched many fans in my opinion. One of the lessons Luke learns is to not judge by size because the force can run in someone powerful despite their stature. Remember he didn't think Yoda was the great Jedi master because of his behavior and stature and thought he couldn't lift the X-Wing. When the prequels came around, they brought up the idea of midichlorians. Essentially a powerful force user would have a higher than average midichlorian count. This way of quantizing the force takes away what made the force special for audiences. No longer could you believe that you could be a jedi with hard work. Now it's a matter of how many midichlorians you have in your body. I think because of this is why people hated the prequels (among other reasons).

    • @CMONCMON007
      @CMONCMON007 6 лет назад +20

      MrGamefan77 think of midichlorians in Jedi's as chakras being more aligned and attuned to some people more than others. Spiritually stronger individuals. And i think thats what midichlorians are in a sci-fi sense chakras or the science of consciousness and its connection to the cosmos. George Lucas did take a lot of inspiration of the Force and Jedis from eastern Asian philosophies. Im a Hindu and i even recognize that the film has narrative elements from the Hindu epics the Mahabharat (the civil war that brought the age of kalyug we live in today aka the age of the dark side empire) and the Ramayana (esp in the end of the Ramayana there are twins who go to battle a king who they believe wronged their mother and the kingdom but did not know the king was their father Ram cause the guru who trained them to be warriors kept that a secret from them.) Sounds familiar right? Very fascinating

      "Each star wars movie spent roughly 10 min explaining the Force."
      -George Lucas in the ESB commentary
      From what i can recall off the top of my head, TPM explained how and why Force users can tap into the Force.
      AOTC explained some of the ways Jedi control the Force (spiritually control not physical) and resist the dark side.
      ROTS explained a bit about the differences between the Living Force and the dark side of the Force as well as how the dark side is nurtured and used, and that midi-chlorians are literally the key (while the Force itself is the lock) to life.
      ANH explained what the Force is.
      ESB explained how and why Jedi use the Force and thr danger of the dark side.
      And ROTJ explained that the dark side is not inescapable and that attachments are not as entirely bad as AOTC and ROTS made them out to be.
      Bit by bit George gave clues and explenations into what the Force is and how it works. Which you have to do with any magic system in a story otherwise it becomes a clusterfuck of contrivances and Deus Ex Machinas. like what's happening with the Sequels.

      I don't understand what's Star Wars fans' problem with midichlorians. What's wrong with having a defined mechanism to the force? It sets limitations and explains things.
      Right now the force is far too random for my taste. Rey walking around doing anything she wants without any considerable training, force ghosts meddling with physical world - raising space ships and summoning lightning, why don't they kill palpatine themselves?

We went there because the story demanded it. We also see different things when we return to Tatooine, some new world building that we have never seen before. In episode 6 we see Jabba and the criminal underworld. In episode 1 we see the pod race.

    Lucas learnt from his mistakes.
    He was always the genius story teller, the idea man, but the execution was his weakness.
    He learned that the very hard way with the prequels , if he just had had somebody to bounce of his ideas,someone who understood his vision and could execute it well,and thats what happened afterward..and the result was Filoni and the Clone wars !
    Just imagine, this relationship growing over the years, and imagine what those two guys could have done with star wars by now.
    And as we can clearly see, The clone wars was leading up to the new trilogy 7,8 and 9 and the Whills. Season 6 Yodas final episodes introduced the Whills further, and they were as mysterious and fantastic, as you could possible imagine ,very intriguing.
    I my self belive in Lucas and his ideas, he is so creative, the driving force behind star wars, it was always about the story, not about any political agendas , marketing or money. It was about telling a story. Again, as you can clearly see with clone wars, finishing 2 and a half seasons of un aired episodes ,ahead already. Stories that he wanted to tell. Not looking at ratings or whats so ever. The man had a story to tell, Disney...Disney just has an agenda to follow. Stories do not matter.
    Star Wars were his children, he said so him self.
    So I believe, the Whills would have been fantastic and not as terrible as many try to make it.
    And the mediclorians ..they just like moths in the dark, attracted to the light...that is the force.
    The brighter a light shines..the more are attracted. The stronger you are in the force, the more you attract of those bacteria like mediclorians ! Nothing bad about mediclorians, just his way of explaining it..was not very well executed !
    I want George back, he and Filoni together would have killed it.

      The deal is that he DID have those people to bounce ideas off of-the cast and crew of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. If you watch some interviews from the late 70s and early 80s, it’s clear that some of the ideas and lines he came up with would NOT have gone over well with an audience, and the cast and crew would point these ideas out (Harrison Ford wanted to tie George up and make him read his own lines at gunpoint).
      The problem with the prequels was that the success of the original movies gave everyone so much respect for Lucas that everyone thought he was a genius and if an idea sounded weird, it would all come together well in the end. So nobody questioned him. He didn’t have anyone to tell him that certain ideas were great while other ones sucked. So while we got pod racing, count Dooku, and the “birth” of Darth Vader, we also got Jar Jar Binks, the sand monologue, and Darth Vader’s NNNOOOOOOOO!!!!

      +Thor Skywalker but I don't really think he took to many chances with the Prequels the great story is there it just has weird pacing and a whole bunch of minor issues that made them disliked. Also I feel the prequels do fail at making us like Anakin because all we get is the little child, the emo teen(ok he isn't really emo) and then well he is fine in ep3 but he is already pretty much the villain by ep3. So we don't really see the "hero fall" which is the whole point of the prequels. We don't get that tragic Darth Vader story George always wanted to tell, we get well something that is a bit all over the place because he seems more focused on the setting rather then the story.

    • @CRSHOVRRIDE
      @CRSHOVRRIDE 6 лет назад +9

      Zero Cool the fall of anakin was when he took revenge for his mother’s death, falling for padme, and befriending the devil palpatine. George isn’t about “chances” but just wants to tell his story. The chances he takes is with the creative process. These are his characters and stories and like it or not, it’s his vision. Anakin was a slave, no father, a mechanic and had “gifts” that no other human had that he knew. George admits that there was too much narrative hence the pacing and simply tried to include as much as possible. The “could have” or “should have” isn’t going to change anything. Remember in his interviews; he never expected Star Wars to become what it is. His original concept has changed many times before it was even in production. There’s is no way to know how good or bad a movie until it’s presented and i think any movie George wrote has always been interesting and very different from anything else in cinema.

I always felt deep down inside that George had something absolutely special in mind when it came to the whole Midichorins concept and that it was much more than a simple power curve. Which strangle enough seemed to outrage fans.Then again how exactly could explain the substantial power curve differences exactly without sounding rudimentary generic? This to me made the Star Wars Universe imho more special and exciting to explore. Finally us nerds can dig deep on a scientific level of exploring the force vs just being something entirely of pure magic.

Then dead Obiwan makes a strong connection with Luke, and then Yoda & Anakin & Obiwan manifest as force ghosts. The next step would be to completely break down the barrier between the living and the dead. It sounds like that is what Lucas wanted to flesh out.

  • @Sadiep16
    @Sadiep16 6 лет назад +84

    As a more causal fan, I still like the concept of the force being under threat in some form. And perhaps the reason the force can never be in true balance is cause the Whills are a you say a parasite feeding off the force. Heck, that could have been what Luke discovered on the island and why he cut himself off from the Force. He wanted time to collect his thoughts on this new knowledge and find away to separate the force from the Whills.
    You wouldn't need to go into the science behind it, but say "something bad had attached itself to the Force long ago, way before anyone can recall and the Force wants to fight back" or something like that. The jedi of the old republic were corrupted and could not see the danger (in a similar way they didn't see Palpatine rising to power). And Luke continued the jedi way thus unknowingly precipitating or handing down the problem of the dark parasite. The Force needs someone "new" to fight for it. How about a girl who was left on her own on a desert planet where nothing can really grow meaning she had no or min-able contact with the "parasite". She is then seen as force at its purist form trying to counter balance the parasites and destroy them which is why she is so powerful. (Not the greatest explanation, but its something).
    Not the best idea I know, but I was trying to see how the Whills/ the concept of them as a parasite to the Force, could have worked within the narrative we got from Disney. Great video, Thor.

      @Sadiep16 6 лет назад +5

      Thank you, Thor. I'm glad you liked it. And I agree trying to give to much exposition would have ruined the whole thing. Heck Luke could even describe it like a parasite which most of the audience would have understood.

    • @Sadiep16
      @Sadiep16 6 лет назад +3

      And I just thought of this, maybe the reason her theme(s) are connected to the Kenbis/ Luke Skywalker is because they were the ones who tried their hardest to be connected to the Force in its pure form (though they still couldn't win against something they didn't know was there). Through some magic Rey is meant to "finish" their work or reawaken the connection Obi-wan and Luke started in some form so her connection to the lightsabar is more a spiritual one that the Force recognizes. And that is why it rejected Kylo even though he's a blood relation, Rey has the more spiritual connection with the Skywalkers/Kenbis and thus the Force while still being a "no one". Just another thought had they gone done this route.

    • @WhoWouldWantThisName
      @WhoWouldWantThisName 6 лет назад +9

      Well, I believe we now have our answer as to why Lucas decided against making 7-9. After the hatred of the prequels, and the continued hatred of midiclorians, it seems very apparent that George could see that this audience was never going to accept any of his remaining vision regarding the Whills. I think it's pretty clear now that the majority of the fans just want light sabers and starfighters. Even the Mortis arc got a lot of back lash from the fans of TCW. Some of us thought that was the most brilliant writing of all. Most TCW fans were even more open to these ideas than the average fan, so what does that tell you?
      I would love to get Lucas' story, and I would accept and respect it as it is ALL his story to tell. I can certainly see though why he wouldn't go through with making the rest of it, after how most of us responded to the PT. So, instead, he stepped aside to let the fans make Star Wars into what they want it to be, rather than what it always was in the mind of George Lucas.

    If his plan was anything like what you've just said then it would've been amazing. Connecting everything together and still bringing(hopefully) a satisfying end to the story doing all the original characters justice. I think that the best way to have carried this out would be to have George and someone else writing the story and having final say on things but having a different director to actually make the film, working closely with George. This would be to avoid the same mistakes as the prequels with the awful/cringe worthy dialogue and acting in some parts e.g. Anakin + Padme.

They aren't the source of the Force but connection of the "force world" and the "normal world". The fans? Oh they would've hated it as much, if not more than the sequels we got. But that's natural, they always do. But I'd be really intrested where George would've taken the story and I hope that one day, he's gonna give us the end to the story he dreamt of in some book. "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. ..." thats the opening of every star wars movie. I was already thinking about but after this line you know some things:
    1: Star Wars Universe really exists parallel
    2: Star Wars Universe died somehow and everything with it
    3: Star Wars Universe died out and only humans survived (we are the human i am talking about)
    So if i am right number 1 isn't possible cause if it is reality some star wars guys should have discovered earth already and would be here
    OR they have rules to not have contact with us but somehow George knows about them
    And if star wars is really just out of his mind there can only be 2 or 3 possible to create a story
    And so it is obvious that star wars universe dies out cause i don't now of anyone who get things told threw the force but it could be possible that humanity lost connection threw the force got to earth somehow and forgot about the technology they had.
    All i want to say if you read the first sentence of every movie, you know that the star wars story will lead into a absolutely tragic ending.
    Cause it says it's in our universe, just in another time and another galaxy.

    I think the idea had so much potential. Based on what he's said about the Force apart from all this, I'd say the Whills could very much be a hard sci-fi take on angels and demons... he makes it sound like they have individual consciousness, apart from one another... and if the Force is still, "the" Force, and they feed off of it while being generally perceived as one with the Force, that would technically make them "spiritual beings;" similar to ideas that ancient peoples praying to gods of their culture could actually be addressing aliens in an alternate dimension who serve or manipulate the balance of alternate dimensions to serve their own agendas. That has some pretty sinister implications for everything Star Wars has ever been.
    What's interesting is how would he have put these kinds of beings to screen? His prequels had a lot of story that was implied through dialogue, matters of psychology that were so dense they couldn't outright be written as they were happening and had to be shaped through the contrast between dialogue and action, which didn't jive with many viewers - who took to criticizing Anakin's "abrupt turn" or the "weak dialogue", expecting something lofty, poetic, and simple, like Larry's straight forward scripts for Empire and Return. I imagine the dialogue would have been very, very confusing and cryptic for most viewers, and these unseen beings would remain unseen as their influence guided the characters on screen to do their bidding in such a way as to unveil their true nature.
    The very nature of the story would require a doubling down on the most criticized aspects of the prequel trilogy. Suffice to say, people would be so lost and confused, not to mention angry; and left even less of the base human relational driving force that made the original trilogy story and characters so endearing. It would be a story very deeply entrenched in a hard lore dump. It would have been fascinating to see.
    I get the idea though, based on just what I observe about George and how his ideas evolve, he may have just been dressing his concept in hard sci-fi lingo based on who he was talking to. If you think about the meat rather than the seasoning, it lines up with everything he's ever said about the Force... except it's being expressed to James Cameron as part of a cinematic sci-fi compendium project, so it has to fit the bill.

    If we can apply that belief to the ST, that the Whills indeed control everyone and everything, is it perhaps _they_ who tried to get Luke to kill Ben? And when he failed, resisting their commands, they had Ben destroy Luke's Jedi Order in retaliation that he didn't do what they wanted?

    The Whills inclusion would’ve been trippy, for sure, but at least it moved the story forward, rather than milking nostalgia. From what information has leaked out over the past few years, Lucas certainly had a n excellent story for Luke & Leia. How exactly did the Whill play into the overall plot? Unsure. Honestly, Lucas’ treatment is the only ending to the Skywalker Saga I can consider canon. The previous six films were all written/co-written by Lucas, the stories were his, and he’s the creator of the franchise. The Disney trilogy makes the whole saga feel incomplete and rather pointless.

Kira(rey) would be the main character and would meet a rogue neo empire trooper skyler(finn) and luke would be depressed and much different on the island of the first jedi temple but kira would help luke get out of his depression and get back in the fight. . Uber(snoke) in his concept art when they were still fully going with georges ideas looked like a whill from clone wars but a monster type, a parasite like you said. so i think we would have gotten something similar but different. as mr myagi says different but same. take out killing luke and snoke in 8 though.

    Honestly, I think the best outcome would have been for Disney to shitcan both Lucas's ideas and JJ/Ryan's ideas, and instead make movie adaptations of Knights of the Old Republic I & II - with an original production to finish off Revan and the Exile's story rather than attempting to raise the TORtanic. After which, they'd have been left with an entire universe of Star Wars to play around in and tell their own stories which offered audiences exactly what they want - more of the same, but completely different. It could have also been a good opportunity to lay the groundwork and slowly ease audiences into the ideal of Wills and whatnot (especially using Kreia's storyline as a vehicle) so that if they wanted to do Lucas's sequel trilogy later - it wouldn't have been so jarring for audiences and fans.

    To all those who gave him shit for the prequels, thanks for absolutely nothing. YOU are the reason he sold the company.
    This was HIS story. NOT yours. Now it belongs to the rat in Orlando.
    Happy now?
