Riven main here, it is nice to hear from someone much better than me, the same thoughts that go trough my head. Many people can't get over fact that it is not season 2-3, riven is fighter, not assassin, and also fighter/tank items are pretty busted right now. So going tanky will actually allow you to do more damage, because you can be annoying for longer time. Prolonged fights are her biggest strength, you have so much mobility, shield and heals, so going in and trying to one-shot doesn't work anymore (it can, but it is risky and not necessary). Most riven mains struggle with this concept of teasing enemy and using everything mentioned as your advantage. Also, in loading screen you should think about what are you gonna do in game, split push, be the guy who kills adc and apc or just peel for your hyper carry, riven can do all of those, and yes, she is not strongest in any of those categories, but her ability to adapt and to be okay in any case is her biggest strength for me. Also, mechanics are important, but as you said, those few basic combos are all you need, there are some really hard combos that are useful maybe in 5% of the time you play or even less, and more often than not it will make you lose games, not win them. Furthermore, in my head I always have this pressure to win lane until level 3, because if I don't have advantage by then, it is gonna be hard and your only chance left is level 6. All in all, great video about my favorite champ in game
I love that even if he isn't a super mechanical player, most outplays in the video are still sick AF and masterfully use Riven's basic mechanics and limits.

4:55 - thats literally Adrian's Riven Double cast combo... So I kinda missed the whole point of this video, I just watched a normal riven guide with wave managment which is cool 'cause lots of players in Gold or lower elos forget that mechanics is like 10-15% of the win condition during the laning phase.
Alois: *almost full stacks conqueror in a perfect combo* Alois: *waits a moment for cooldowns, then hits ignite at the last second to stack it up to 12* Alois: *taps an auto at the last second to keep the stacks up* Alois: *combos for the the full stack kill* Also Alois: "Mechanic don't matter on riven, guys."
This is what I've always said, Champions like Riven, the Windshitter bros, Akali and Irelia are all champions whose mains int on them because they outplay themselves. It's like a fancy toolbox full of all sorts of fancy, state-of-the-art tools. Sure, you have everything you'd need to tackle any situation, but if it's too complicated to use and you in your hurry for finishing the job try to rush things, things will break. What Alois does is he knows what his tools do, and he uses them in a way that's consistent and reliable, not trying any fancy tricks. I respect him for that for sure.
Gotta agree with you. Even tho i ve played a shit ton of riven i still find my self inting a lot, and many times playing worse than i did before, in the beggining. Outplaying ourselfs is really the word xD
I don't know what you guys look at in term of Riven, but I've mained Riven for some time and all the people I used to look at were all challenger, and mastered the basics unlike said in the video. Also, it is said that AloisNL only masters 3 combo and doesn't use flashy plays, but we see him land a perfect or near perfect E 3rd Q F on 3 ennemies at some point in the video. Moreover, it is emphasized that AloisNL thinks about Riven as a "reset" champion, which honeslty all challenger Riven player think about her. The real difficulty about Riven always have been spacing and using your kit over and over while opponents run out of cds. I get the point of the video, which is that Riven isn't about mechanics only, she's about mastering the basics and enough mechanics to make her work (i.e necessaries combos), but I feel like the video is lying to us to a certain extent. Riven is maybe more mechanical than described (and not shown !) here, and I feel like people that are good at her know about her basics a lot more than the video make it seem.
Nah, thats what it looks like to all lower elo players. In reality its just 3 4spells with 2 to 3 autos in between. Hes not pressing 20 buttons very fast. He's just calculated and executes the basics consistently.
@@darkin1484 Your reasoning is pretty bad. There is no champ that requires 20 buttons in the game. He just calculated and "executes basic consistently" for sure man. I'm sure you can do the same on Annie or Vex or Kassadin. No. You can't. It takes more to do those on Riven. This isn't a lower elo player thing. Those plays are still more more mechanically harder then most champions in the entire game lol. Hence it's still very mechanic intensive even though he says "mechanics isn't important". When it is. That's why East teams always beat West teams in pro in laning phase. These mechanics to matter. Just because he isn't playing Riven at the absolute top of the top tier mechanically wise doesn't change that he is still playing it mechanically at a level better then 99.9 of the player base. What he says is just pure fucking cap.
Using flash for a good engage in teamfights or zhonyas at the perfect time has nothing to do with mechanics tho. It's game knowledge no? Or do you want to tell me ur unable to flash Q as Alistar in a teamfight? Because it's pretty much the same with flash+Q3 on Riven since holding your cursor on the target auto aims Q for Riven. Don't get me wrong, Alois isn't mechanically bad but comparing to say oldschool Boxbox hes just "boring" to watch since he won't go for the fun flashy outplay.
I think it's really funny how much emphasis you put on him not caring about mechanics that much yet show dozens of clips where he executes rather difficult mechanics with ease xD
He said in video mechanics are important, but only few basic combos. All he wants to say that there are a lot of mechanicly better riven mains who struggle with everything else and at the end of the day are lower rank than him. Of course he is still has better mechanics than majority of riven mains, but he is not highest rank because of that
It's much easier to master mechanics, if you only have to practice 3. Most riven players just practice way more and end up having to spent more time on unnecessary skills
Can we just stop and witness for a second the shen at 2:34 absolutely WHIFFING his dash on not only 1, but two Champs who both didn't have their dash ability activated.
To be fair, he was clearly trying to hit both of them with his E so he aimed between them, and it meant that both of them just had to sidestep in opposite directions, a bit greedy from the Shen, and well played by the Riven and Graves since realistically speaking if only one of them gets hit by the taunt, Viktor still dies there
Alois is honestly such a beast he's made me go for being the worst on my team when i play riven to being a constant carry, this guys game knowledge is worth gold
Riven is not an "I just have good fundamentals" champion, like the video premise fundamentally doesn't work. Guy's talking about how he doesn't care about mechanics while every single clip is him Q flashing, canceling every single animation, casting 2 spells at once and avoiding every single bit of damage thrown at him with the 4 dashes his kit has at 600 average APM. You already made a video about riste 4 years ago, the Garen onetrick who got to challenger. That's someone who can brag about not caring about mechanics because he mastered fundamentals and beats everyone on game knowledge.
Most of Riven's fancy mechanics are useless nowadays. The days of stylish one shot flash combos are over, she just doesn't have the damage anymore. She's locked into a single viable build almost every game (the only real question is whether or not you build maw). Hard wall hops have always been super niche use cases anyways.

Mechanics are a very basic part of league. Even silver players have very good mechanics. It's macro, decision making, game knowledge, and awareness that divide players more often.
@@battler_zz If you look at Korean silver or gold, the onetricks actually can play their champs efficiently. Mechanics in League are much more basic than other parts of the game.
A bit misleading. Not being the best mechanical riven player does not mean that you are not a more mechanical player than a jax sion darius cho urgot etc player. Riven takes mechanics period and also a ton of knowledge about matchups etc. She is one of the most demanding champs to learn in game.
I've been hearing that some people, think Built is better. If you ask any Proffessional player, they will agree that amateur pros are much better at the game than your soloQ player, let alone soloQ OTP. Theres a reason they play competively.
@Professor Thinker For someone called professor thinker, you not very good at it. Just cause someone hit Rank 1 isn't an objective measure of if they are the best player in the world. Why? In competitve LS for example is known for predicted who is going to win or loose just on draft, because objectively the draft is better. Likewise most OTP have habits that go uncheck, like trades they win, where they shouldn't go for, or kills they get where the opponent should never die there. Pro players can play a more objective game than soloQ players, thats why for example a random korean player might be ranked higher than Faker or Chovy, but that does not mean they are better. And Alois is better because he plays the game more sound than Built does.
This shits so funny idk if I should laugh or cry. Playing conq+ sorc top with 3 heal pots no tp low base regen Champ in challenger 700lp requires some god level spacing and reaction time (good mechanics) combined with knowledge and practice (in wave management but also matchups) to just survive lane lets not even talk about snowballing. I also rarely see someone misscharging a fkn Varus Q but I do see people fuck up riven 'basic q combo'. Also flash is the most important tool when approaching a teamfight. Combining it with a delayed Q into tripple cast and goredrinker, followed by the standard fast Q cancel combo isn't flashy at all just the basics (sounds simple like smth you could do? Now try it in a game deciding teamfight where challenger players ward and space against you) . This feels like a sick way of insulting people cuz he is so good on his champ he doesn't realize how hard it is.
This video is too late. All these items got nerfed that made riven better. Honestly what they did to items really sucks and nerfing jungle sucks. It's changed the game to be smurf queues. You place silver because trolls in placements afks twitch picking adc but perma roaming. Smurfs like irelia killing top lane 10 times in 10 mins. You still go 15/4 each match and they put you in smurf queues for the rest of the season. Matchmaking is broken and they destroyed items that were good in champions you like to play. Riot doesn't make changes so we complain and they turn around to make 4 massive changes to break the game in a position I have never seen it in a worse state. League balance team sucks and I need to take a break. Every ranked game shouldn't be 1v5 because you clearly see laners not listen to new pings. Solo queue shouldn't be forcing people to duo queue which shouldn't be thing. They get akail riven and irelia that go 20 and 5. I got the ones that can't land simple ability and go 4 13. It's not fun and league has lost it's ranked integrity. I usually get high plat in no one time towards diamond, but since I succeed. It's perma smurf queue that has people 1v2 all game long. If I get help it's 2v3. Teams won't listen or help. Even if you take two inhibs and get baron people still split with shaco or khazix on enemy team. If I play those champion everyone groups hard. Worst ranked experience this season and balance changes make it worse.
I really don't understand of this statement that keep saying: "How is he do that without extreme mechanics" when literally wave management, time management, rune management, and champ skills timing management LITERALLY the whole mechanics of this game?
dude says '' huh he doesent mechanically outplays '' whilest showing 2 instances or even 3 in the intro where the player just MOLESTED the enemies outplaying them x-D
Your commentary on this video doesn’t make sense to me and I feel like you got the wrong idea out of this. Just because he says mechanics aren’t important doesn’t mean he has sub-par mechanics. Just based on this play at 0:27 he clearly has great mechanics, he played that perfectly and flashed Ashe’s ult and Heimer’s E. Not to mention every other play in the video. What is “extreme mechanics” supposed to look like? I’m pretty sure every riven player fails wall-hops so idk what that even means.
Alois has taught me a lot bout not just the game and lane control but little things that make a huge diff, and his mechanics are good don't let this humble piggy trick you
With meta shift she is broken, because they nerfed the shit out of top laner with the meta change top laner used to be tanky and hard hit as fk at start of s13, now they loss their tanky, dmg, and healing. but riven still have her broken ass shield and no meta champion can out run her
i always dislike ALOsinnl vidoes cuz he play vs wood hahah even in iron ppl play better vs riven. but always his enmeys are wood they watch or run & say him kil us. we dont use our spells
Riven just doesn't work lol. What's the point of playing riven when you have other champs that outdamage you with a less buttons... You need to execute perfectly every time for your Qs. Messed up one thing will lose your lane or even team fight or game. Do not play riven. Camille or fiora or kasante or ashkan are all better alternative that riven.

The fact you said number 1 riven, when built exists on this server, just pains me. Built is so much better its insane, there is a reason he was rank 1 euw overall for the entire last season
Riven is the reason goredrinker got its mythic passive reduced to 3%, most bruisers playing urf in normal games with how much cdr they get, and riven is on top of that. she doesn't need mechanics to be good, she just needs to be able to spam her abilities.
Oh my god a 0.75 stun that also locks riven into an animation for 0.5s meaning that it's only really a 0.25 stun, with one of the smallest ranges in the game. Meanwhile renekton has antishield on his w, sett's stun is like 2 seconds, gragas is untouchable and poppy is unbeatable by many champions

With all due respect, the background music can be quite loud.
Other than that, great video and explanation!
2:35 lol shen
I laughed so hard
Alois? Aren`t Built the #1 Riven euw?
Built is the best Riven on EUW and it's not even close...
Isn t BuiltEuw the rank 1 riven that also got rank 1 on euw ?
Like they are both really good players but built is just kinda better imo
AloisNL is ranked higher than Built so the title is correct
built is rank 1 euw riven
mechanics are over rated says man with amazing mechanics
What abt built bro :/ that guy actually hit r1
While you were studying mechanics, I was studying the wave
A bit misleading. Not being the best mechanical riven player does not mean that you are not a more mechanical player than a jax sion darius cho urgot etc player. Riven takes mechanics period and also a ton of knowledge about matchups etc. She is one of the most demanding champs to learn in game.
I've been hearing that some people, think Built is better. If you ask any Proffessional player, they will agree that amateur pros are much better at the game than your soloQ player, let alone soloQ OTP. Theres a reason they play competively.
@Professor Thinker why?
@Professor Thinker I'm Alois's Editor and have met many coaches and pros. Alois is a better player without question, why do you think he isn't?
THATS MY BOI
the rank 1 euw riven is built, i like alois but hes not close to the skill that built has, and built reached rank 1 during s12
Just show built already.
Clickbait video title is clickbait
I thought this was gonna be about Built
bets riven euw is BUILT no this man actualy
Yea and by faaaar
so basically baus without the inting
Music is very loud donghua
It's funny how this was released immediately after deaths dance got completely gutted
Oh I see... This video is the reason why i've been seeing so many inting rivens in gold elo EUW
2:35 THAT SHEN I CANT
Built is better riven imo
alo-is..not alo-ees...like the black butler character? o.o
The way he explains it, sounds like WW top would be a hard counter to Riven. No?
Maybe even Trundle, because of his passive- but he'd probably have to itemize accordingly against those 3 pots?
Delete Mordekaiser
This feels like a sick way of insulting people cuz he is so good on his champ he doesn't realize how hard it is.
oh this is where the subscription quote came from
This video is too late.
Alois has taught me a lot bout not just the game and lane control but little things that make a huge diff, and his mechanics are good don't let this humble piggy trick you
With meta shift she is broken, because they nerfed the shit out of top laner with the meta change
top laner used to be tanky and hard hit as fk at start of s13, now they loss their tanky, dmg, and healing.
but riven still have her broken ass shield and no meta champion can out run her
i always dislike ALOsinnl vidoes
cuz he play vs wood
hahah even in iron ppl play better vs riven. but always his enmeys are wood
they watch or run & say him kil us. we dont use our spells
Gotta be the most boring way to see/play the game ive ever seen. "I never limit test or go for hype shit in my competitive video, i just stick to what I know and play safely!" He's just a challenger pensioner
like how the hell do u say this guy has no mechanics and its not needed and you are talking about wave management and then he just insta doublecast cvombo into poppy that was freezing his wave xD. min 5:00
lol riven is sh it
im 800k riven
she is usless vs a champ with armor. specially if he has 6k hp & 700 armor like malph
she is usless vs almost all top champs
Am I the only one who thinks that in the majority of clips his mechanics were way above average. I don't think this is the best example of a non mechanical player. Great video nonetheless
I've gotten Riven in Urf and Aram and I always pass on her because everyone I've seen that uses her sucks ass, so I thought it was just the champ lol
Oh my god, you're telling me you cant win the game by pressing 2-10 bottons right, but instead have to @e good at the game?
If you do everything he tell, but u suck at riven mechs u are useless, he dos fast combo, doble Cast flash combos, etc you need micro and macro for being good fgs
The fact you said number 1 riven, when built exists on this server, just pains me. Built is so much better its insane, there is a reason he was rank 1 euw overall for the entire last season
If I have to play methodically just to be higher rank then I don't want to be higher ranked
meh this works for high elo gameplay but low elos dont gank top and dont think like this at all so its only useful for dia+
Vainglory being on the sponsor game list even if its a dead game.. I will always miss that game sighh
sry but ussless video, he plays like every other riven that was a normal guide how to play riven and have wave management .....
The title is misleading. He's very mechanically skilled. He just states that it's not the most important thing
hi your audio this video was very terrible, please normalize the audio levels and increase the volumes.
Yea literally every person who climbed to challenger says mechanics matters little when it come to micro and macro
noooo dont ruin silvers mindset that they could be diamonds because their mechanics are decent(
Riven is the reason goredrinker got its mythic passive reduced to 3%, most bruisers playing urf in normal games with how much cdr they get, and riven is on top of that. she doesn't need mechanics to be good, she just needs to be able to spam her abilities.
just had 3-9 days of ranked....but this vid makin me wanna try out riven in my ranked games. cant lose anymore LP right? :D
bro every top laner champ review that i see starts with " you wanna be very agressive in the early levels"... what a testosterone lane ahahahah
Riven was a mistake.
Her w should not exist.
Her W is fine just remove her E interaction with her other skills. 😂
Since 2013 to 2023 I been saying the same shit.. Riven takes no skill.
bruh this video keeps on saying the same goddamn things over and over and over again like we get it
So this guy just plays the game without having fun. lol love alois tho Hup holland hup
