Organizing Paper Scraps- Tips from my Craft Room Episode #1

  • Hello RUclipsrs!
    Today's short video shows you my old method for storing paper scraps and my new system. It is totally customizable and can be put together very cheaply (or free!). By storing your scraps vertically and pre-cut to usable sizes, you'll be able to flip through and find what you need with ease. Making this change has saved me so much time and made it so easy to actually use my scraps. The widths I use are 4.25", 5.5", 3", 4", 5", and 6", but you can chose whatever sizes work for you!
    In this video, I also show a couple of card samples that use paper scrap strips as well as a very brief demonstration of how you can use scraps to make unique backgrounds of your own.
    This video is the first of many to come with tips from my craft room; if you'd like to see more, be sure you're subscribed to my channel. Thanks for spending some time with me. Until next time, go make something beautiful!

    Really great video! I recently cut up a ton of old 12x12 scrapbook paper that I didn't plan on used - into many card bases and have so many thin strips left over. I took the sturdiest ones and stuck them with the sentiment stamping supplies and I took the rest and bundled them thinking I will do something with them. Using them for quilt patterns, stripes and even partial cards is a great idea and I will begin a huge project making a bunch of card bases like that. A group of women from a local church take cards to nursing centers and hospital recovery centers and can use up my donated cards easily for good causes. Thanks! Now to go see the rest of your series. This was great!

    I love using scraps, something satisfying about it. Even the tiniest little pieces I sort into jars by colour, then after a while I've enough to make handmade paper from them. TFS.

      YES! That sounds amazing. I love paper scraps, too. I get a kick of out having little to no waste, and it's so fun to put beautiful things together out of what would otherwise be "trash".

    I hope you see this. I am totally cracking up that you are supposed to be teaching us how to *organize* paper scraps but you get distracted by all your scraps and start designing cards... you are SO ME!!!! 😂😂😂
    Lol, that said, THIS is what I've been trying to figure out... exactly HOW to organize by size. So helpful!!

      @@MostlyPaperCrafts seriously, I do this ALL the time. Or I watch a cardmaking video "in the background" while I'm being productive, then I STOP what I'm doing to go make "that card" before I forget how!!

    Hello! I've enjoyed your videos and you had mentioned about organizing your scraps. Yes, I have the struggle of scraps bin(s). So I got all (okay, most) of my scraps and cut them down -- still wanting to save as much as I could. So it worked out pretty good, but all the different sizes wasn't as much help as I thought. Granted, it was a lot more organized then before, but I hid them in one of my drawers until I could face them again. THEN, you came out with this video! Tomorrow I am cutting them down to some standard sizes and using the odds and ends to make my own useful patchwork paper scraps. Thank you! P.S. You are the only person that truly motivated me to clean up/out my craft room and organize it into its intended useful and purposeful way. I am excited to enter my room now.

    This video is pretty timely for me because like you I have a paper tray and I seldom go through it, so just today I was trying to figure out how I was going to organize them. I have a very tiny craft room, but it I’m going to save scraps ( and who wouldn’t) I’m going to have to get them organized or someday I’ll be drowning in paper

    Hi Hannah,
    I really enjoyed this video. I have been making a half-hearted attempt to sort out my scrapbooking room for many months now. Australia 🇦🇺 is heading into its Winter 🥶 months now so this really is a great opportunity to knuckle down to it. I am sure I will love my space even more and definitely be more efficient for it. It is also a great reason to stay inside and stay warm
    I am now going to look at your 2nd video for “Tips From My Craftroom “. Tfs.

    What great scrap storage! They aren't really scrappy at all! So if you die cut something out of a piece of paper--you don't save the odd shaped paper? You cut them down to the closest size. Is that right?
    I love your striped and quilt patch cards! May I ask what type of adhesive you put down? If I use liquid, I get bumps or some oozes out and looks sloppy. If I use tape as the adhesive, I don't have any wiggle room! What are your thoughts?

    • @MostlyPaperCrafts
      @MostlyPaperCrafts  2 года назад

      I do cut to the closest size. I always use liquid adhesive, but I don’t use much. The Bearly Art glue has a super fine tip and let’s me squeeze out just a little bit. I never have bumps on my projects from glue. It’s my favorite!

    Great system, Hannah! My scraps are in a 12x12 bin and it's overflowing. I mostly do 5x7 cards, so not sure what the A2 is. Love how you used your scrap strips for backgrounds. I need a glue that does not buckle the paper. Any suggestions? Thank you so much. Take care.

      @bettyprickett1003 3 года назад +1

      A2 is 4.25 x 5.5 in.
      Rubber cement is my go-to adhesive for paper, & has been for over 20 years. It does not buckle it. (It smells bad, though...)

      Hi Carole! I use all sorts of liquid adhesives, but for me the key is how much I use. I use a very small amount spread thinly, and it holds great and doesn't buckle the paper. Hope this helps!
