    The hole bit is designed to be used on horizontal tile filling the guide with water before cutting. An alternative is to take a damp lump of sponge and push it inside the drill bit. That will give you enough moisture to help the cutting.

I an saying this because that is actually my plan. I bought a house which has only the ground floor finished and I am practically going to do myself the first floor (empty canvas!). So, I was planning to extend the plumbing from the bathroom on ground level right up on first floor, on the exact spot.

    After watching your videos, I gained enough confidence to tackle my bathroom remodeling. Can you imagine? I didn't even know what's behind the bathroom walls, studs? What's a stud? TBH, I had to learn about general construction materials from A-Z & learned the names of the tools & materials before going to HD & Lowe's and embarrass myself. Also, learned from you how to use the power tools (I was scared to touch the circular saw & the wet saw). I still prefer the manual tile cutter.
    Shower wet area:
    After old tile demolition & new insulation, I properly installed the cement backer boards, taped around the sims, thinset them, & waterproofed them with Redgard before installing 12x24 porcelaine tiles. TBH, I left the plumbing & shower pan installation to a professional.
    Shower dry area:
    However, smooth sailing on my newfound skills and confidence, I decided to make my whole bathroom waterproof. I installed new walls in the bathroom dry area with waterproof backerboards and tiled them. Also, I used bullnose porcelaine tiles 3X24 in. as wall base trims and as transition tiles. The result is spectacular.
    This remodeling saved me a lot of money & most importantly, I picked quality materials that will last for a long time.
    Thank you, Jeff, from the bottom of my heart.🙏🏼

      I sure will after finishing up the last steps, but don't laugh at some small tile imperfections. While installing tiles, I came across a wall leveling problem, which is very important, like you emphasize it many times in your videos. I fixed the 1/2 in. gap in the upper side of the wall with mud behind the tiles. What I found through my remodeling journey is that the hardest part is the measurement part.

    58:00 um the point of having good coverage is that so there is enough bond from tile to substrate to hold the tile in place long term, also not having good coverage leaves voids which water can pool and sit in discolouring tiles and causing issues like mold. A tile that is hollow underneath is a lot more easily breakage as there is nothing giving it support. Something as simple as drilling to install a shower fixture will crack the tile.

    Jeff if I’m redoing electric and need to go through the attic should I wire through the rafters or just lay and secure the wire over the rafters

    • @RCLapCar
      @RCLapCar 2 года назад

      Keep in mind your electrical code might not allow that. Here in Ontario for example if the distance between top and bottom of the truss is more than 1 meter you must run the wire through the truss. This is so that you can't in the future step on the wire and crush it against the wood when you can't see it and it's covered by insulation. They figure if you have less than a meter of head room that isn't as likely.

    Jeff, how do I fix the holes where they fell out of the countertop where the dishwasher is attached . My son put new screws in and now I have to nearly slam the dishwasher door . It's the cheap kind of countertop. I guess a new counter top would be best, but then you know what that means? I'll be waiting for 3 years for any help.

    The interesting thing about those shower heads is that you get to look up at the reflection and see a unique view of yourself naked.

    What did the laser level do for you at the bottom? I couldn't really follow that. Did you use the level line on the bottom as the line for the starting position for all of the tiles? Why did you not want a partial tile in the top of your niche?

    Can you tile over an acrylic shower insert? The insert was reglazed a few years but it’s starting to look nasty on the floor in particular and I’m trying to figure out how to update and freshen up. Thanks so much.

    Jeff- good stuff. Can this be done in a fiberglass enclosure? I sure like the idea of tiling over vs. demo/rebuild.

    This is great. I was hoping it was a hall bathroom you were remodeling. How do you handle a shower/tub combo where the tiles go up about 3/4 of the way up the wall and you want to tile all the way to the ceiling?

      just add cement board on top of the tile to create a flush surface. mesh tape and thinset the gap and roll on the waterproofing membrane. Cheers!

    When doing this process, what is the closest the tile can be to the inner edge of the shower pan? I don't want to change my shower pan, don't have that experience nor extra money, but there is a VERY THIN ledge from the tile to caulk.

    • @deborahallen8933
      @deborahallen8933 2 года назад

      I measured and figured the tile would be flush with the inside edge of the shower pan.

      In this type of setup functionally it doesn't matter as the pan is not supporting the tile. Really it boils down to looks

    i sure hope you will answer 🙏🏻 I grouted tile around soaking tub last night, and I am inspecting the grout lines now. Overall it looks really good. However there are some areas that do not seem full enough. Can I add more grout, and how long do I have to wait before doing so? Or, am I stuck with it with how it currently is? It is an unsanded grout, I used the keracolor frost color, from Lowe’s.

    • @lafos4914
      @lafos4914 Год назад

      well, for anyone else in same situation - i went ahead & added more grout tonight, 2 days after original grouting was done. i made it a lil thicker since i didnt have to fill the lines completely this round but instead just make them fuller, & it looks much better. 😉

    Jeff, why the 2 rows of different tile half way up the wall? On camera it doesn't look like an accent, except inside the niche.
