This is totally unrelated to the actual work here Jeff but I feel I should share this with you. A couple of years back my brother was struggling with anxiety & depression. I know, I know but during that time I was learning how to do a bunch of handy work which is how I discovered your channel. Anyway we would sit down to watch you renovate homes & teach us how to build sheds together. We really learned a lot from you & your attitude gave both of us confidence. It very easily could've been another YT channel or something else but it was truly you that kept us coming back. We couldn't wait to see what you would teach us next but you also made us laugh man & for that I am truly grateful. You helped my brother pull through. Thank you Jeff!
I don't understand who are these 143 ppl, who did not like this video. You are the best. I have finished my basement just by watching your videos, saved almost $25000. Now I have installed drain assembly for my bathtub first floor, and used the same copper assembly(the flexible one you suggested in one of your videos), and installed my new bathtub. Now time to tile my bathtub with porcelain tiles. Thanks once again. Really appreciate.
At 25:30 he doesn't show how to finish the cut and separate the material. Suddenly the material is apart and he says, "Now if you have to be that precise you can just use the blade to clean up the inside corner." He left out the crucial moment.
He’s not only a talented craftsman, but he’s a great teacher. Articulate, covers how and why you’re doing it a certain way, and keeps it short and simple.
Just watched and glad I did. Going to now invest in the right grinder and start cutting away. I was most concerned with the toilet hole cut. Thank You!!!
for a beginner/diy guy (not me but for them out there), use the grinder guard and u can place your thumb on it to keep the grinder steady and also put the grinder down without it running on you if it catches the blade. Also, u can use your speed square to mark the back of the tile where your front marks are at when plunging instead of eyeing it..usually noobs will miss and have to restart the cut since the outlet cut (in this video) will not hold the outlet lip when screwing it back into place. And use a sponge to keep dust down and keep the tile cooled off just squeeze some water over your cut area. Noobs will apply too much pressure and most likely break the piece a couple times. Just some ideas. Good video none the less
Great video / advice. I just installed porcelain floor tile in a 12 x 12 bathroom and used my grinder to do all cuts. My grinder is my new best friend. I wish I would of seen this video 15 years back. Notches, circles, U shapes, there's nothing you can't cut with a grinder!

Thank you Jeff so much for this video. The timing couldn't have been more perfect as I did my kitchen backsplash today. I had a scratch tool and snippers all set, but after watching this last night I went out first thing before I started and got the cutting wheel for my grinder. I've never watched a DIY video this long until the very end. Great presentation, easy to follow and not boring like most DIY videos. All the information is actually useful and not useless. Thankyou.

These videos are a life saver. Informative and easy to follow. I’m not as handy as I would like to be. I’m a software developer frustrated with finding a good contractor full of excuses in the area I live in. Starting to try to do some projects myself and your videos have been amazing. Not only do they Tech me the techniques I need to know but they make me feel better about the projects I’m doing. I feel a lot more confident I’m not going to royally screw up my house. I’m about to put in some porcelain tile flooring in our bathroom and when it came to figuring out the toilet flange which just so happens to be right smack in the middle of a large 12x24” tile I was like how on earth does that work. Well you solved that issue for me and I’m actually kind of excited to try cutting out a circle now. It’s yet another tool to buy I may only use once but oh well. Still cost less then hiring a contractor assuming I can even find one right now. They are all backed up with work for months.
Thanks Jeff for all your videos. Your explanations are superb and the advice/method you offer is relevant, easy to follow and it works spot on. Thanks to you, I've conquered my inability to work with drywall having achieved great results and have enormously grown my skills and general knowledge that leveled up my DIY projects form meh to wow!
I’m in the middle of a kitchen remodel & recently used a Vevor 48” scratch cutter on 24x48” porcelain tiles, worked like a charm & a great price @ $125.
Another great video! A secondary tool to buy is a 5 amp rotary tool, like the rotozip or dremel, that takes the 1/8" or 3/16" diamond bits for cutting smaller things like electrical outlets and pipe holes. Then go around with the same bit and tune up strike plates for doors that have trouble latching because of house settling. That pretty much pays for there.
Also small round cuts - you can attach a router stand thingy on it and finish the edges nice and round. Also diamond cores, especially after the fact. And an oscillating multitool.
what a great video!! I start tiling in the morning and I was worried about cutting the vent hole and the toilet flange hole in my 12 x 48 porcelain tiles. This is perfect! Thanks, Jeff!!
I just finished my certificate in home reno and I wish they had taught us the differences in the tiles, the cuts, the tools and the tricks instead of just laying tiles to practice. You covered everything a tiler should know. Love your videos!
As always, I love Jeff's videos. Thanks for the tip about not cutting glass with a grinder as I was about to. I would urge Jeff and all viewers to wear dust mask and ear muffs. Actually, I recently cut some thick tiles with a grinder and similar porcelain/ceramic blade and cuts easily. I did it directly on the lawn and laid a hose with running water flowing over the cut line. Worked perfectly and eliminated virtually all dust. I marked the cut lines with permanent marker which was not affected by the water. Grinder was fine and there was no electrocution. A home made wet saw!
I just wanted to say thank you for all your videos. I just did a major remodel on my upstairs and did 90% of it on our own thanks to you. Saved me literally tens of thousands of dollars. Thank you thank you thank you. Just wanted you to know. Oh, and something you might want to mention on your videos is...if you are doing it yourself, you are saving enough money to screw up a bunch, learn and fix things. My 'screw up dollars' were in total a little less than $200. I offset that by doing all of this myself. Thank you again.
I said it in the chat but in case I was too late I just wanted to let you know that because of your videos I was able to redo my mother-in-laws house and for that I wanted to thank you because instead of 10s of thousands we spent a little over 5k
Randomly searched this up because I haven’t cut tile since I was 14 with my pops and my buddy just asked for help. Had to refresh myself and you nailed everything on the head
Was going to post the same. You’ll wish you’d kept it on when the grinder kicks back. Moving the guard into the correct position also means you’ve thought about how the tool is going to react when applied to the cut.
Hi thanks for showing your trix regarding tile you have give me hope .I like to do all my DIY projects myself that make me prouder when the job is completed. Simple step to follow I've got this down to art deeply grateful.
Thank you for this video! I just made the exact same cut in my tile for the toilet using the exact same process you outline. It came out perfect! FYI, the lid for a small tub of roll on membrane works as a good template too... lol
Jeff, your videos are our go to, when we get ready for bed, every night. You have a soothing way with your mannerisms and voice. We watch, for hours, even though you have that Canadian accent! (just kidding, eh). Please keep making videos. You are very talented!
There were a few left over bits from a large tiling job, which I was really keen on getting sorted. Our tiler is so busy it'll take him months to come. When looking for a mitre wet saw (!) I came across your video and thought I might as well try it myself. I do have an angle grinder, even with a blade for ceramics and made decent cuts right away. This video of yours was a great motivation to just do it myself. Thanks!
Thank you for this....just happened on to this video...forwaded to the part I needed and less than ten minutes later I cut a perfect circle 16" diameter in two halves on tiles to fit a round sink!! You are a great teacher
Thank you so much. You are awesome! You present any work so effortlessly that makes the scare factor go away. I wonder where and how did you learn all of it? BTW with time your videos are getting better and better.
What an awesome video. I just had to do a repair job replacing a couple of 12 x 24 tiles in a bathroom because a water line broke behind the shower. I was hoping to cut some round holes for the tap and water spout on the tub. I was trying to find a drill bit that was at least 3 and quarter, diamond tipped but couldnt find one. The 2 1/2" bit was closer to 50 bucks could only imagine what the 3'" and 3 1/4" would cost if I was able to find one but I had no luck. I ended up getting a grinder with the cutting wheel that has the diamond edge that uses water when you cut. Worked great but now I know you can use the cutting wheel you used without water. Perfect for next time. Thanks for the information
Its like you read my mind. I hired a guy to do my backsplash. Its been 3 weeks...and no action. I am starting my backsplash next weekend. So, frustrating. It was the last step after a studs up remodel on my part! THANK YOU! :) I used your expertise for many steps in remodel...You Rock!
You are just great - your video and tips were just amazing. Had a tiler come out to do some work at my home and I just hate how he cut the light cut out. Your video and technique has given me so much confidence that I'm ready to tackle the fix. Appreciate you and the years of experience you taking the time to share. Please keep the videos coming. Great tips. The more I listening your video, the more I invest in tools. Few years ago, I was really thinking before buying a tool. Do I really need this? Does it value the investment? Now I can say yes. Sometimes I'm doing a repair and I really that in the past I hesitated before buying this exact tool, but now I just realize that I have save so much money just with this tool.

Thanks for giving us so much information on bathroom remodel. We are in the middle of our own bathroom remodel and we have gained a lot from your videos, especially your methods for cutting tile. One of the best ideas that we got was from your video using Go Board backer board for the shower. We used Go Board and it made the shower installation so much easier! Thanks again!
Very helpful for me tiling around a toilet, and the soil pipe. Personally I would wear ear plugs, hand protection, a dust mask, goggles( hopefully the mask wont make them steam up !). For an an amateur using an angle grinder can be very dangerous so take care, and try and use a guard, and wait for the blade to stop spinning before you put it down!! If possible use a clamp to hold tiles to your cutting board to prevent them from flying off :) Thank you for the video
So I noticed when u scratched the first piece u did it with force nd came out clean, but when u scratched da 2nd time it was less force nd it chipped. LOVE UR VIDEOS!
Excellent video. Thanks very much for taking the time. First time installing bathroom wall tile - ceramic. Already have wet saw and scoring cutter - heading out to buy nippers and a mesh blade for my angle grinder now before I start
Man.. I learn so much from you every day. You have saved me so much money and have given me so much confidence and knowledge in my DIY's its amazing. Is their any way to give back to show my appreciation? My father was a great carpenter that I regret finding the time to learn the trade from. Now that I'm older I spend my days investigating in your videos. Thank you for always introducing me to new content. I appreciate you my friend. Blessings.
As a professional tile setter of 15 years glass is the most difficult. I use a premium snap or score cutter and it will leave a far cleaner cut than the wet saw every time. When I have to use the wet saw I polish the front and back of the tile to clean the chips up and make it smooth. The last thing I’ve found to work well is get a color match caulk, when you set the inside corner put a bead of caulk on the back side of the tile right at the edge so when you put the tiles up it gives a perfect reveal. Cheers
Cutting tile with the grinder was very helpful. I need to cut a circle in a porcelain tile and see that the grinder is the way to go. Good tips. I think I’d use the guard on the cutting wheel.
I've done just about everything else but Tile work and I've decided to tackle a small tile job on a small bathroom floor for my parents in a couple of weeks. Going into it I figured if I had the scratch tool and the cutoff wheel I'd be set and your video has assured me that I'm making the right choice and also given me some great tips and tricks!
Thanks for such a clear video. I've used my angle grinder to cut 6 x 6 inch porcelain floor tiles and it got the job done, but I never dreamed I could cut those big 2 foot square tiles reasonably straight with the same set up. Using the rectified edge as guide and then marking the cut with the grinder at about 5 degrees was when I knew I could do it. That's real information in the context of getting real work done. I'm putting a 2 x 4 foot tile as a jointless work area on my tired formica kitchen benchtop and then cutting 2 x 2 ft tiles to fit around it. (Well, 600 by 600 here in Australia.) I'm going to have to practice letting a good blade do the cutting with just the weight of the grinder on larger work, but I have picked up some 2 by 2 ft tiles cheaply at $15 for three that are not the right color. I think I am good to go now.
u the best , Actually I am doing the up Flush toilet and shower bath in the basement now , good to learn from u , i been watching u for the last four days now, thanks
Very helpful. I came to get instruction for how to cut a small hole in tile around a pipe. Discovered diamond hole saws elsewhere but that might be good info to add to a vid like this. Learned a lot. Thx u!

Thanks to you, I've conquered my inability to work with drywall having achieved great results and have enormously grown my skills and general knowledge that leveled up my DIY projects form meh to wow!
I love how this guy loves his grinder so much he draws lines with his grinder instead of a pencil.
Can I use the Milwaukee m12 fuel 3 inch cut off tool to replace a regular angle grinder ? Thanks
I am about to do my bathroom. We are doing complete reno and the only reason I feel comfortable doing it is because of your videos.
what a great video!! I start tiling in the morning and I was worried about cutting the vent hole and the toilet flange hole in my 12 x 48 porcelain tiles. This is perfect! Thanks, Jeff!!
Glad it helped!
Im a mechanic and welder not a home renovation guy but watching your tile video's have helped me out a lot.
I just finished my certificate in home reno and I wish they had taught us the differences in the tiles, the cuts, the tools and the tricks instead of just laying tiles to practice. You covered everything a tiler should know. Love your videos!
Who go to school to learn how to cut tile?🤦
I just used your tip with the grinder to cut out my shower control valve hole and it worked awesome! Thanks for all the great tips! Enjoy your videos.
Right on Justin. Well done!
Watching this gentleman makes me happy every single time. Greetings from KSA!
Wow, thanks!
Randomly searched this up because I haven’t cut tile since I was 14 with my pops and my buddy just asked for help. Had to refresh myself and you nailed everything on the head
Using angle grinder without safety guard it's like playing with grenade ;) Good luck for future Jeff!!!!!
FYI, the lid for a small tub of roll on membrane works as a good template too... lol
I am from Montreal, did about 6 bathroms 3 kitchens and many floors with almighty grinder ONLY. Nice video, all you need for cutting.
Thank you. Did someone tell you that this is a perfect vid for me right now? You rock!
Glad I could help!
Hi love your channel 💕 what tool to cut 12 x 24 marble?
Jeff, your videos are our go to, when we get ready for bed, every night. You have a soothing way with your mannerisms and voice. We watch, for hours, even though you have that Canadian accent! (just kidding, eh). Please keep making videos. You are very talented!
Working on tiling my bathroom right now, great timing for the video.
You got this!
Thanks!
Thanks for the knowledge and the benefit of your experiences Jeff! Always appreciated!
My pleasure!
I have no use for the hand saw but fully want one now. Lol this was amazing thank you!😊
This channel is amazing. I don’t care how much money I make this guy on RUclips advertisements. This information should not be free. Thanks Jeff
Absolute great pro tips. Much appreciated. Made my life easier.
Glad it helped! Cheers Brandon!
Its like you read my mind. I hired a guy to do my backsplash. Its been 3 weeks...and no action. I am starting my backsplash next weekend. So, frustrating. It was the last step after a studs up remodel on my part! THANK YOU! :)
I used your expertise for many steps in remodel...You Rock!
Cheers you got this!
This channel is so awesome. Everything I have had questions about I get answers on here.
Glad to hear it!
Julian from South Africa - happy subscriber
Jeff is wearing safety glasses even between cuts, WOW...
lol, i had m y hands full
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY 🤣🤣🤣
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Thanks for clarifying. Otherwise I would have thought that the wearing of the glasses was a secret cry for help after you were kidnapped or something like that ;-).
Jeff wears them to bed.... also, if Santa is wearing them down the newly renovated chimney, now you know who it REALLY is
No mask though !!!
I will be doing the tiling of my fireplace using 1’ by 3’ porcelain tiles and two types metal tile edges. Your video was informative to choose the right tools! Also it helped me to reduce the beginner’s anxiety. :) Thank you!
THANK YOU THANK YOU GRACIAS!!! YOU HAVE MO IDEA HOW YOUVE HELP ME!!! I STARTED ON MY OWN SINCE I WATCH YOUR VID ANT TRUST ME YOU DONT KNOW ME BUT YOU ARE A BEST FRIEND HAHAHA THANKS FOR HELPING ME MAKE MONEY!! 👍👍👍👍
Glad I could help!
This guy puts me in a good mood and makes me want to go put tiles right away !
Sweet. This will be very helpful and timely.
Glad to hear it!
Saw several videos from you and they are all great but this is the best and most informative for my needs thanks!!
Ty for this vid esp regarding glass tile. The techniques you used are the same that my brother and I use during installation. I never knew there was name for the piano key cut. Finally, your angle grinder the exact same my brother uses. A great tool to have
Just recently discovered your channel and I'm hooked! Please wear a mask so that you don't breath in all that dust!
Perfect timing! I'll be laying bathroom tile this weekend. Thanks!
Cheers happy to help!
Hi Jeff, I always love your videos; you're my go-to for most, if not all, of my DIY tutorials, and the joy of your videos is you make them fun and interesting. Great stuff... Keep up the great work.
I’ve been following for sometime in RUclips and I think you could be an architect one of the best design and build and your clients will be or if not been very pleased with your design and work. Keep up the good work for all is fellows dyr’s
Wow, thank you!
If possible use a clamp to hold tiles to your cutting board to prevent them from flying off :) Thank you for the video
what a nice video! As a girl tiling my micro apartment I found it super useful!
I bought one of the siding tools, and it is amazing.
Great to hear!
Thanks so much for your tip on how to cut a large round hole. I followed your advice. It was very easy. Perfect fit. Thanks again. Joe
If I ever win the lotto I'll just have Jeff build me a house with an open checkbook 😂
LOL, I need to finish my own first!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY is it just me or do all builders never get around to their own projects lol
I tot im a sucky newbie diy using that slide tools. Now i know am not that bad.
Your house would have some serious issues if he did get his hands on a whole house!
So I noticed when u scratched the first piece u did it with force nd came out clean, but when u scratched da 2nd time it was less force nd it chipped. LOVE UR VIDEOS!
"You don't wanna have an 8-inch hole; it's just way too big." Truer words never spoken, my friend.
derp
Excellent video. Thanks very much for taking the time. First time installing bathroom wall tile - ceramic. Already have wet saw and scoring cutter - heading out to buy nippers and a mesh blade for my angle grinder now before I start
I working with tiles for a few years... Also used grinder for most cutting. Well done thanks regards.
Wow, Jeff. By the end of this short video, you had 225 likes!! Within 40 minutes!!! Thank you for your time!!!!
Amazing! some of those were for you! Cheers!
Blessings.
Lady bug just chilling on the belly for the first few minutes 😂
I have a warm belly. Cheers!
Dude - you are My Man! Wish I had RUclips when I built my 1st house 45 years ago. Thanks.
I jus gotta say Man U r a versatile mo fo. I wish u lived by me or was my bro in law !!
Cheers
I turned my patio into a catio. 😻
Such a good video. I love the fact that you just don't take mediocre as acceptable. If it's not 100% it's just not good enough. Top video
Cheers Pedro!
Shout out to the ladybugs who snuck into the video.
Seriously mate, this is why I subscribed and am a member. No bullshit. To the point. I was up and running in no time. Cheers.
“You don’t wanna have an eight inch hole.” -Jeff 2020
Excellent video thank you so much. New DIYer in the UK here... learnt a lot about cutting porcelain from this 🙂
5:26 you have a ladybird on your belly 😂
Cutting tile with the grinder was very helpful. I need to cut a circle in a porcelain tile and see that the grinder is the way to go. Good tips. I think I’d use the guard on the cutting wheel.
Sure would like to see a mask. 40 yrs of tile have left me with severe emphysema. Save you and your viewers a lung and mask up
and the hearing. all the routing time. but we built some cool stuff!!
You need to wear a mask. You need to protect your lungs just like you protect your eyes. 😊
He’s outside
He didn't wear a mask 😂
He hates them
u the best , Actually I am doing the up Flush toilet and shower bath in the basement now , good to learn from u , i been watching u for the last four days now, thanks
Very helpful. I came to get instruction for how to cut a small hole in tile around a pipe. Discovered diamond hole saws elsewhere but that might be good info to add to a vid like this. Learned a lot. Thx u!
this is one of the most thorough videos i've seen oon youtube for doing a job....and wonderfully communicated. respect
