  • Is your Mini Sewing Machine not stitching? In this quick and easy sewing tutorial for beginners, I show you how to solve this annoying problem once and for all! What's more? You don't need to do anything fancy!
    I will show you how to sew with a mini sewing machine that is not stitching or picking up the bobbin thread using my KPCB Mini Sewing Machine.
    Lots of people have written to me saying that their mini sewing machine is not stitching properly. But I have not experienced any such problems with mine (touch wood)!
    These are a few of my favourite things:
    My mini sewing machine bobbins, set of 25 awesome little round things: amzn.to/2S0Kbeu
    The mini sewing machine that comes closest to what I have: amzn.to/3eLGLGb
    or amzn.to/2yylFui
    My favourite thread: cheap and there's LOADS on the reels amzn.to/2x0X80m or for a larger pack that should last you for months/years: amzn.to/2VQ9ot9
    Felt is a wonderful fabric for beginner sewists. But you don't want to spend too much when you are just starting out sewing. My favourite cheap beginner felt pack gives you a lovely variety of colours while being easy on the pocket. Check it out here! amzn.to/3dwUf7O
    Using a sewing machine can appear to be a daunting task for beginners . And if you encounter problems like missing or skipped stitches, it can feel all the more frustrating.
    You might have read all the literature about troubleshooting sewing machines. But sometimes, we discover hidden gems by experimenting with our sewing machines ourselves.
    And this is how I discovered how to solve this problem when MY mini sewing machine refused to stitch!
    Remember - sewing is a journey, not a destination.The most important thing is to have fun while sewing and just roll with the mistakes and imperfections.

    Your intro explained my state so accurately. This trick actually works...another youtuber mentioned it to me yesterday but I didn't fully understand what they meant until I saw the way you did it. The only trouble with this is that for an absolute beginner like myself, there's no way that I can sew a straight line while one hand is occupied (I just tried a few times). Is there any way of increasing the tension/ pressure permanently?

    • @OoniCrafts
      @OoniCrafts  4 года назад

      Hi Hacer, first of all, thank you SO much for your kind words. It makes me so happy that I could help you and I really appreciate you.
      To be perfectly honest, it is tricky to keep very straight lines with this machine. I have a hack for straight lines too, but again it involves engaging one hand. And if you need to sew large items that require constant added pressure, one hand will be engaged still.
      I will be opening up this machine to figure out the internal mechanism in an upcoming video. I'll see if we can fiddle with pressure, though it seems unlikely. I'll post some links below to help you further xx

    • @OoniCrafts

    • @OoniCrafts
      @OoniCrafts  4 года назад

      Hi Astha, oh no i'm so sorry the machine didn't work out! Could it possibly be a faulty piece? I know that there are so many manufacturers putting their names on the mini sewing machine. To be honest I wouldn't know the difference between them either. I do hope you get a better replacement.
      Alternatively, you might consider spending a little more and getting a bigger, proper sewing machine with all the normal functions and settings. But it will definitely cost you more.
      If you do decide to go down this route, I would highly recommend the Brother LS14. It will forever be my first love in sewing machines.

    • @OoniCrafts

      Hi, thanks for your comment.
      This trick might not work on jersey at all! Knit fabrics are stretchy and require a zigzag stitch with some stretch . This sewing machine only does straight stitch so it will be difficult to sew jersey.

      You don't need to oil this machine because it is made of metal parts rubbing on plastic parts and plastic parts rubbing on plastic parts. Only metal on metal mechanisms need oiled. If you oil plastic, it will disintegrate and crumble over time.

      .same here.
      my thread keeps on cutting.
      its tiring and pissing me off.
      im sure you too got pissed off too.
      .what i did is i use paper tape at the line where i should be stiching and sew slowly.
      using you right middle finger to guide the cloth and your left hand to slowly pull the stitched cloth.
      try it.
      just sew slowly using the step pedals

    Shall we use pedal switch as well as power switch/ charging and batteries also when we using this machine

    • @OoniCrafts
      @OoniCrafts  4 года назад

      Koteswari, only use one power mode at a time. If you want to use mains, remove the batteries! Likewise, if you are using batteries, do not plug in the power cable. Hope this helps x

      No problem!! Although if you haven't bought one yet and are still looking, I would always suggest consider buying a full sized sewing machine first. A mini will give you problems and it's not always easy to fix them. xx

    good morning i have a question for u what kind of thread are you using on your kpcb sewing machine i'm using gutermann cotton this is my second machine that i have the first machine did not work now i needed you're help please i love all your videos but i need help i already bout to many threads i don't now what to use on the kpcb mini sewing machine come to my rescue thank you

    • @OoniCrafts
      @OoniCrafts  4 года назад +2

      Hi Lucila, I too am using Gutermann. I also use Coats Moon. If you have checked everything and it still won't sew, it might be a faulty unit. These are mass manufactured low quality machines so there are no guarantees if it will work perfectly.

    • @OoniCrafts

      Hi
      No, a lettuce hem requires a narrow zigzag which is impossible on the mini yet.

      Try pulling back the needle thread while turning the wheel

    • @ducttape411

      Jaime Yah Tried that, but it’s something wrong with the bobbin shaft. I know how to fix that on a normal machine, but I have no idea how on this one.

    Hi I am facing some other issue, I tried watching all the videos available and tried all the suggestions for making it stitch, however it always comes up with new problem, now when I thought I fixed everything, it's just not stitching, needle is going through the fabric but stitch is happening, it's just not making taking the lower thread while stitching but it took it out when I was threading my machine.only while stitching there seems to be a problem, I hope you are getting what I am trying to say here, please help if you can?

    • @OoniCrafts

      Skipped stitches on regular layers is usually user error like poor quality thread or a blunt needle. Change to a high quality branded thread like Gutermann.

    I love your videos. I have a problem with my machine. It jammes and loop's the tread and does not want to sew. It does that from the start, in the beginning when I want to start to sew. Its so frustrating coz in making face masks for the kids around the neighbourhood and they are waiting for me. Can you please help?

    • @OoniCrafts
      @OoniCrafts  4 года назад +1

      Hi Elmarie,
      thank you so much for your kinds words.
      It could be a number of reasons why your machine is playing up. Start with the easiest and work your way to more complicated stuff.
      I have made this very easy through the 8 point checklist. You can find the free PDF document here: ruclips.net/user/redirect?redir_token=b_ChCTrL_u9yytswUWyhyJCTL9t8MTU5MTM5NDQ3OEAxNTkxMzA4MDc4&v=CTDyLGTjDJQ&q=https%3A%2F%2Fmailchi.mp%2F4c24ab312dc9%2Fmini-sewing-machine-operation-checklist&event=video_description
      Just go down the points one by one on the checklist.
      These two videos will also help:

      @@OoniCrafts Hi I watched the videos that you recommended. Its not the treads that causing the problem or the timing of the machine. I'm using the second machine that you bought. As I looked at the timing, when the needle is coming down to kiss the sharp point (bobbin housing) I saw the needle getting stuck on the let's call is the "wall"(that's now the gap in the bobbin housing). So that's my machines problem. Now if I pull the metal that holds the needle and the metal with the spring on, towards me and I turn the wheel to let the needle go up and down it's not getting stuck on the wall, the needle pass that wall and go's down in the bobbin housing and up where it's kissing that sharp point. Hope you understand what I'm saying and hope you can help me fix it. Thank you again.
