A little context: an "etude" is a technical drill, meant to improve the performer's playing by zeroing in on fundamental or problematic elements. They're stereotyped as dry and tedious, things to be practiced but not performed. Chopin broke the mold by turning his etudes into dramatic showpieces, while preserving their didactic function. They're also innovative in that they often focus on issues like phrasing, articulation, and voice balancing, which are quite technically difficult, yet are underrepresented in the more "mechanically" focused etude format.
This one tackles both mechanical and musical elements at once. The wide, rapid rolled chords in the left hand are very tough to land accurately, and they stick out like a sore thumb if you flub them. Meanwhile, you have to deal with the challenge of tying all of those sharp textures and biting dissonances into something musically satisfying. There are a bunch of ways to do this, but they all require flawless phrasing and intonation to pull off convincingly. This adds up to a devilishly creative piece that can give performers way more trouble than they're expecting.

So throughout the entire Etude, A wrong note or rather out of key note is played?

    • @Cornix94
      @Cornix94 3 года назад +6

@@matthewgonzalez2040 Throughout the first and the last sections, yeah.
One interesting thing is that the musical function of the out-of-key notes is implied to vary, going by the sheet music. Taking a look at the first section, they're played on-beat and included in the chords from 0:00-0:19, written as grace notes leading into the chords from 0:26-0:33, and incorporated into an outright submelody elsewhere. If you listen closely, you can hear the performer trying (successfully) to give these subsections their own character.

The song is called “wrong note” because the notes are creating dissonance. They’re not supposed to go together but they do. That’s what makes this piece a work of art.

Only the middle part and the ending. On most of the piece the notes dont go together at all. they sound like a student trying to play something and commiting way too many mistakes. thats why chopin called it 'wrong note'. its an Etude, and the primarly goal of an Etude is to develop certain specific musical competences or techniques. Probably the goal of this Etude is to have the student develop the technique of the grace notes + agility on the left hand jumps. Chopin's Etudes got famous because they deviated from just being practice pieces and he also took the effort to make most of them beautiful, musical and pleasant to listen to.

This song was perfect for the anime. Not because the name of the work. You can hear the conflict within the intro, the resolve of the melody and just as in life another conflict may arise that you need to overcome as the melody plays into the intro again. I know that’s not exactly how I want to word everything, but it’s the best I can do while listening to this. This song tells a story, deeper than words. It ends on a note that is reassuring to the struggle, life is beautiful. But there isn’t anything beautiful in this world without a little risk. Who cares if you fail, once twice three times. If there’s a stage and a chance to play in front of people then take it. Make sure you leave a mark on this world that people will never forget by pouring your soul into everything you do.

Hey you, I mean, dear Kosei.
You were just here, and now I'm writing you a letter. Kinda weird, right?
You’re a mess, you know that.
    Your meek,
    and a quitter,
    and neurotic.
The first time I ever saw you, I was 5 years old. It was at a recital for the piano school I went to back then. You marched out onto that stage. And then made us all laugh by knocking over the bench. You sat at that giant piano, and with the first note you played, the world became more colorful. It was like you found a deluxe box of crayons on the keys, and tossed them everywhere. Suddenly, the girl next to me starts balling her eyes out. Now you're going to give it up, like you never played in the first place? Hearing you that day changed my life. What do you think of that? So I switched, then and there. No regrets.
When I found out we were at the same middle school, I was thrilled. How was I actually supposed to meet you though? Buy egg sandwiches every day ‘till you noticed me? In the end, all I could do was watch you guys. You were friends. And I was some stranger. It wasn’t my place to barge in. So I didn’t.
I had surgery as a little kid, but I've never been totally well. After a bad fall in the 7th grade, I was in the hospital a bunch. Those hospital stays got longer, bit by bit. I was hardly ever at school by then. Nobody said how sick I was exactly, but I knew it was bad. Then one night, I saw my mom and dad crying down in the lounge, when they thought I was asleep. That’s when I knew I didn’t have much time.
I made a choice. I ran. And I didn’t look back. I started living life exactly how I wanted, so I wouldn’t be all mopy in heaven. Contacts are weird, but I tried em. Tried eating a whole cake by myself too, because, why not? Music that used to boss me around, I played it my way.
And then, I told one single lie. Are you ready for it? Here it comes.
    Kaori likes Watari.
Shocking, right? But I'm glad I told it. After all, Kosei, that lie brought us together. Please tell Watari I'm sorry. Honestly though, I'm sure he’s moved on to some other girl by now. That’s just who he is. When it comes to friends, he’s a great guy. But romantically, I want someone sincere.
Also, please tell Tsubaki that I'm sorry. It turns out I was just passing through. I didn’t want to leave a big mess behind, so, I couldn’t be totally honest with her either. Think of it. “Hey, Tsubaki, be a pal and introduce me to Arima, would ya.” that would have been a pretty messed up thing to ask for. I mean everyone could tell that Tsubaki was crazy about you. Even before we were friends, I knew. The only ones who didn’t get the memo, were you and her.
When my lie finally brought the two of us together, you were different than I’d imagined.
    Stubborn,
    and passive,
    and pessimistic.
Not to mention the fact that you stole my leggings. Your voice was lower than I thought. You were a guy, you know.
And you were gentle. No surprise there.
Remember when we jumped off that bridge. The river water felt amazing. And the moon shining down at the music room, like we could grab it on our tip toes. When we raced that train, I really thought we could win. Singing twinkle twinkle little star with you late at night felt, kinda perfect. Being at school after dark, its mysterious, right? And snow, it looks like cherry blossom petals. You must think I'm silly, finding wonder in the everyday things around us.
    Things I saw with you.
Isn't it funny how the most unforgettable scenes can be so trivial, and vice versa?
    So, what's the verdict?
Was I able to live inside someone's heart?
And this heart, it wouldn’t happen to be yours, would it?
Do you think that, you’ll remember me a little from time to time?
    No hitting the reset button.
Don’t you forget me. That’s a promise ok?
I'm glad, we found each other.
Will I reach you? I hope I can.
    Here’s the truth Kosei.
    I love you.
    I love you.
    I love you.
Sorry that, I never ate all those canalé’s, and that I beat you up so much. I was such a brat to you.
    I'm sorry for, everything.
    Thank you.

Well his mother forced him to play nonstop. Acting like a drill sergeant that everytime he misses something he gets an awful beating, mind you that it continues until her mother died and not saying sorry. Kousei became a human mentronome where every piece he plays became a masterpiece and no one can beat him.
Until the time where he gets ptsd and not hearing the notes because of both physical and mental trauma he got from her awful mom. But in the end she did see kousei rise up from the top.
Anyone can play better, precise and almost perfect like kousei if you have a very strict drill sergeant tutor or teacher plus the beating of course haha
So dont lose confidence over kousei my dude he got the worst method of practice while you dont. Thats already a +point to you

I've marveled at the the music of Chopin from my teens to now nearing 71. The Ballades and other jewels of his output stand as they are and can be given nothing but praise.
This little jewel is remarkable. How did he conceive it? In many ways it makes Frederic all the more amazing. I remember buying the Etudes on LP oh so many decades ago and its strange sounds turning to beauty over time on my ears. The Ugly Duckling of music.

I've always love classical music for months now, but never expected it to show up in an anime (in particular, this one, which I have heard about for quite a while now.) and achieve this kind of fame. I feel so glad to hear that people around the world (possibly or not) who were never aware of classical music their whole lives can now find a window of opportunity through this anime to find MORE classical music and to explore the genre as a whole (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, etc.) I don't feel alone anymore! I should definitely watch this anime! I hope it would be a ride!
This rendition of the "Wrong Notes" etude makes me feel so glad I am a piano player in the first place. To achieve this amount of feeling through an instrument is incredible and otherworldly and one of the main reasons I love classical music in the first place and why I am currently learning piano. To be able to play this makes you feel as if you've earned a gold medal for the first time and as if you've reached Mount Olympus after an arduous journey. That's how rewarding it is. I intend to do so as well later on in my life. It makes you feel as if you want to get up and dance everywhere to your heart's content and wanting to frolick on green grass on an animal farm. It feels so liberating. Alas, the true beauty of music cannot be described in just words. It has to be felt to know what it truly is. Playing this is like feeling a sort of Cloud 9/Nirvana experience as you tell a story with your fingers as a medium that is supposed to be there in order to tell a story with the most accurate detail and feeling the music as a whole as with all other compositions by other composers like Mozart and Beethoven by pressing those keys on the piano that also allows you to "paint" the story that the composition is supposed to tell with accuracy and you get lauded with appreciation from virtually everyone in the audience which makes you feel you ARE worth SOMETHING and motivates you to keep going on forever as a musician. As a PERSON. As an ARTIST. This is why I love music as a whole and this is why I love piano. I hope to attain a godly sort of status in the eyes of the public someday and be revered all around the world for how hard I would have worked to attain such a level of fame.(The middle section and ending of this etude makes me want to cry tears and brings back memories in the most poetic way possible!) It would elevate me tremendously as a person, and as an artist as a whole. And yes, honestly, also to get girls to notice me, but that's a minor reason why I'm playing piano in the first place! The REAL reason is above! Music truly is a gateway to the mind, body and soul and can definitely touch them in ways indescribable and unfathomable to the human mind and heart. Some things truly are beautiful and mindblowing in life, like music. It is simply sublime. That's what it is. Sublime. In the most musically perfect way. It transcends words themselves and can speak what cannot be said in the English language or any other language ever. It encapsulates human emotions within notes, dynamics, phrases, etc. perfectly IMO. (P.S. If anyone has any "warnings and tips" for me before I watch/start watching Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, it will be gladly appreciated! Have a great day, people!)
(0:45-1:30 That part hit me right in the feels so much. And so does the ending of this etude. It's so beautiful, and hats off to whoever played this etude wonderfully! The last two notes were off tune though, but nonetheless, it was beautiful all the same. And yes, even after writing this big-ass comment, I still feel like everything I felt from watching this video is not properly written down in this comment of mines. I am still not satisfied with this comment at all! I hope to expand more on it, but at this point, it's useless. Let the video speak for itself. That would be much better IMHO.)

Yeah Chopin's etudes are famed for being extremely technically challenging, although for some, those sorts of pieces are easier than slower and more dramatic pieces. I'm currently learning the Op. 25 No. 11 myself and while it was quite challenging (and still is really), theres all sorts of patterns that you pick up, especially in the fingering, which definitely lightens the amount of learning you have to do. And it's mostly right hand too, which is very helpful (personally, since I struggle with left hand passages)
