Shigatsu wa kimi no uso - Chopin's ballade no.1 in G minor, op. 23 (Piano with Violin ver.)

- Just want to share my love for this anime.
I tried to edit the Chopin's ballade as accurate as possible because I know you also love Kousei and Kaori's last performance as much as I do. I edited it with the same length found on original OST of the anime. This version is both Kousei's piano and Kaori's violin in the anime. enjoy!
Disclaimer: All contents of this video, the photo, music and anime are not mine and belongs to its rightful owners. For entertainment purposes only.
This piece is the entire plot of Shigatsu condensed. It seems that Naoshi Arakawa built the entire story based on this one piece. The slow tempo, the anguish at the beginning, the forceful entry of Kaori as the violin, the lively tunes of her reflecting her life energy, then Kousei's plea and begging to keep her in his life, then his anger, denial, bargaining, depression and finally acceptance (all stages of grief). Incredibly beautiful.

I cant imagine any other piece that would hit us as hard as Chopin's ballade no.1.
I went through the exact same thought process
Bruh anyone who have ever listened to this piece obviously tries to create a story in his head. It's a ballade
Did Naoshi Arakawa?
And here we are again, another spring with a wave of tears
It still hurts every time. And I love it every time.
Another spring without her......

As a musician and a classical music fan, I can say this anime has brought much good for classical gender.
watch "forest of piano," it also has TONS of Chopin and other classical pieces, I loved it
@@nathaliek1233 I just finished watching it yesterday hahahah what an amazing tribute to Chopin
Just finished the anime on 7/4/22. Never know who Chopin was until I watched the show. He sounds like a very influential person.
@@rovkuie In short Chopin was a key composer of the Romantic era, He is my favorite composer and I liked him before watching "your lie in april", I suggest looking more into him and his various other works.
@@nathaliek1233 it’s good but it’s hard to watch the CGI to me.
The story telling within the song is wild, 4:18 there is a build up leading to the violin coming in, if you notice at 7:18 there is the same build up leading to the final note where the violin once came in, there is a momentary pause for the violin, then it strikes an augmented chord as if something went wrong then the song descends down a path of grief, and then followed by a frantically playing piano panicking in loss of what it can not imagine living without, playing as if it doesn't know what to do
it really does sound like kousei pounding at the keys unable to hear the music and begging to jus hear the violin or pianos sound once more in that moment🥲
Do you play an instrument? If not you should. This isnt just surface level dissecting some anime music, you have awareness of the workings of classical music.
Btw this is my favorite piano piece :)
THAT MAKES IT DEEPER
wow didnt even notice that, good catch
That's why they call it a ballad! Really great song
6:49 when her violin fades out as she passes away and Kousei is just left sad, devastated, broken...
it hurts...
The chosen piece for his last performance is analogous to his life. Begins slow and chaotic, morose with the image of his mother's strict style of teaching. 1/3 of the way through, he begins to open up and heal but not completely. Still quite shell egged, then She comes crusading into his life as the violin suddenly appears, creating light and love in his playing. Her style matches her soul. Fleeting, powerful and beautiful. But a sudden moment he realises she's leaving him like his mother did. The moment the violin ends, the piano returns to its chaotic dark playing. He says Sayonara the moment he understands she is gone and he is once again left alone.
Why did you just describe it in the most accurate way possible, now it's harder to swallow
But I don’t think he’s technically alone, because he ends up getting with Tsubaki, and he never forgets Kaori. He thanks her for what she did for him and helped him see color again. This show is so heartbreaking…
Mi amigo 😢
I listen to the original version of the piece everyday, even 10 times a day, i created a playlist that only has this one piece to make it repeat itself
But i still cry like a baby when i hear Kaori's violin sound
Same, been doing so since half a year now - and it never ceases to soothe my soul. In fact, the more I listen to it, the more I want.
Even before I knew about this arrangement in the anime, I listened to some classic music pieces "etherealized" by A. Krishna on RUclips. Of all things, this very piece of Chopin has since stuck with me, next to Nocturne No. 2 and Debussys Claire de Lune.

If you’ve heard the song on its own without the violin its so dramatic but in a sad way. The violin makes it so joyful it entirely changes the theme and tone of the song it also makes it joyful but the end makes it sad when it stops. I don’t know what the show is about but as a classically trained pianist myself, its so refreshing to hear this song with a new take. It shows that such an emotional song can still be refreshing even as old as it stands.
This has to be one of the most beautiful pieces of music in existence
Chopin was known for that.

Every single time I hear this song, I cry. I weep. No matter how long it's been since I've last seen the anime. I still hear Kousei crying out, begging and pleading her not to leave him. I still hear the tortured playing of the piano while his heart breaks in two after he knows she's gone. Quite possibly the most beautiful work of fiction I've ever seen and I'll feel the aftershock of my first watching for years to come.
That anime inspired one of my best poems ever
@@dennisgarcia72 Do you mind posting the poem for others like myself to read it? I'm very curious in what you've wrote!

A spring without you...
...is coming.
Dont...
STFU I'm all grown up I won't cry!....OK I might....I did...I'm sad
😭😭😭
NO STOP NO. O NO
nope not today sir
When the piano oscillates back to the same tune where the violin first comes in, it breaks free and plays feverishly, wildly, angrily - a different passage. Almost like Kousei is heartbroken that Kaori doesn’t join him now, and plays as if he’s denying that they won’t ever be together again.
Am I the only one who thinks this is the best interpretation of this piece? I've heard a ton, from lots of known pianists, but this one is so perfect that I even think it was recorded by parts and put the best ones together.

The introduction of the violin at 4:34 at the most ethereal part of the ballade took my breath away for a moment..
I always wondered how music could make someone cry, until the first time I heard that part.
I usually listen to classical music in RUclips while doing homework and other stuff, and I often leave it in the background with autoplay on. Just how pure talented the author of this anime. He just built a masterpiece to a masterpiece, it is like the series is base on the music piece
It is based on the piece, I too noticed that bit. I felt stupid learning this later on, but ballades are stories in music

Plus whether or not he likes classical the show is based around Chopins music Kaori says it a lot and it ends with his ballade no. 1 as kousei goes through his memories Its quite literally the piece telling the story of the anime
i watched this anime back in like 2017-ish, and i still think abt this performance to this day. there's just something about the way the violin and piano sound together that really gets to me. the sheer distress and anguish is conveyed so well, and i love how they managed to make the instruments sound distressed. i love the build-up to the introduction and disappearance of the violin. the way the music reaches its crescendo makes me so happy. i remember that the first time i ever watched this anime, i already knew how it was going to end, but the execution hit me so hard. their duet had me sobbing hysterically for at least half an hour. i love this duet sm :)
This is the strangest, and most emotionally impactful, version of this piece I've ever found. It's hard not to be obsessed with it. It is such an utterly energetic and whimsical gut punch. Thanks for uploading this all those years ago. I hope it never goes away.
The part that always gets me is 6:52 when the piano goes solo again rather than when the violin joins in
When I was a kid, I loved going to the symphony orchestra field trips. Although, i didn't about music theory nor the pieces or sound. I enjoyed it. Now as I grow older, I understand what everything means and I realize why I enjoyed it so much. My heart always knew what each note is supposed to feel like. Such a tragic love story for only a couple of children
I first watched this anime back in summer 2020 where quarantine just struck in our area. Hearing Chopin's first Ballade for the first time felt so magical and that violin part just broke me, felt kinda bittersweet. 2 years later, I'm finally starting to learn the piano, and soon, I'll also buy a new keyboard. Ballade No. 1 will always have a special place in my heart because it is the one that inspired me to pick up the piano in the first place and also my goal to actually play the piece.
Nice how’s the progress?
How's it going

Listening this music is always so special after seeing Your Lie in April, when Kaori has left and Kousei keeps playing but we can hear the sadness in his play (and think the guy that played it is really incredible) I am so thrilled that last time I shivered (sorry if my english is not very good Im french)
The theme of the show actually lines up well with the lore of the piece itself. Chopin wrote it when his homeland was under siege so he could not return there, he wrote it with longing, wondering if her would ever see his town again, anger at the world for putting in this predicament, but happy and accepting that he got to experience it at all.
That's...that's beautiful. You know it's nice. He was able to put forth his anger, sadness, and happiness within in not just his work, but his talent. I really do hope that near the end of his life he was able to recognize the work he had created and could be content.
And to think, he wanted for his music to be burnt and forgotten.

You hit the nail on the head, my friend.
I’ve never played the piano. My sister did, and she was the definition of perfection when it came to it. I was intimidated and never wanted to learn. I watched the Anime, thought it was nice, particularly this song. It had such a resonant sound and feeling, it made me reflect. My college life began, and I lost my dog, my cat, and my friend. I turned to the piano that my sister had made her debut and had conquered the home with her sounds, a sad state of its former self. I turned to it and I played a note, a random one. It was the first note of this song, a strong, resonant C. I learned by ear slowly, figuring out each and every chord by sound, slowly and steadily. It’s a beautiful piece. Shows how life, even though short, is beautiful.
First note of the song is G buddy
Amen, brother. Keep your head on your shoulders, your feet firm, and always put forth what you have and what you can do. If you can do that, than surely things will work out.
