To expound on my experience with the dungeons, there were a few moments I used a guide for because of how frustratingly trial and error they were (plus encounters interrupting the puzzling): • Amala Temple - Red Temple • Labyrinth of Amala - Fourth Kalpa • Tower of Kagutsuchi - Light Path and Teleport Mazes These aside I found the dungeons pretty manageable; tedious at times but nothing filling out the map couldn’t help. There were some other small things I looked up for clarification but I tried to play as blind as I could before resorting to guides.
I have always been intimidated by mainline SMT games although still think that either 3 or 5 look like potentially good in-roads if I were to ever give it a shot. Honestly most interested in their upcoming Metaphor game.
A lot of people suggest 4 as a good entry into mainline (though it's stranded on the 3DS). The first dungeon can be brutal but in a satisfying way once you clear it. I've heard the game gets easier as you go but I didn't play too far past the first dungeon to say one way or the other.
Nocturne's themes are definitely better than its characters, which I think was intentional so you wouldn't pick your endings based on who you liked better, even if it can still be distracting. And yeah I agree that the game is more mid gameplay-wise, though I actually do like the dungeons a lot minus the three Amala Temples
I agree the characters were intended to take more of a backseat to their ideologies, I was just kind of unclear on where they stood with the demi-fiend personally (at least before forming their reasons where it becomes "either you're with me or against me"). I guess the point is that it doesn't matter since the world as they knew it ended, but I would've liked at least a little more buildup before everything went to shit.

always wanted to play this but im scared! great vid
Thank you! I think the game is pretty fair if you play on normal, toughest part as I mentioned is the learning curve for how the mechanics work
