- Though the Gibson Les Paul's birthday is in the fifties, it didn't achieve widespread prominence until the 1960s when rock music exploded onto the scene. During this wild-and-crazy decade, players like Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, and Eric Clapton all used Les Pauls to redefine what an electric guitar could do. These early rock stars caused the Les Paul's popularity to surge so mightily that Gibson resurrected it from the dead in 1968 after discontinuing the model entirely in favor of the SG in 1960.
In the ensuing years, many players gravitated towards these sixties-style Les Pauls because of their thinner neck profiles and figured tops, and they have become just as legendary as their fifties forebears. Now, Gibson pays tribute to the guitars that helped kick off the rock revolution with a delightful entry in their Original Collection: the Les Paul Standard Faded '60s.

What many people still don't understand about this series is that is not intended to be the "poor man's" Standard Les Paul.
It's just a different thing. The satin looks as silk on it. Try to break the mold, it's a true beauty.
atleadt its not that horrible older grainy satin finish like on those cheap sg's
Nice! I have a faded from 2005. Still my favorite Les Paul!
Prefer these over the gloss ones! 👍🏼
That is a fantastic sounding Les Paul.
fantastic guitar no matter some people can say. matt finish is just phenomenal. GORGEOUS INSTRUMENT.!!
It’s a Satin finish that when polished turns to a glossy finish
Perfect guitar to put pickup covers on since it’s brighter than normal so it smooths it out 👍🏼🤟🏼
at 4:20 Greg WOW !! and the shirt !
Koch sells guitars. I have III wildwood specs lol
Gregs back ... .... Yea .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Prs probably has the finish out there super thin and hard ,, This is a good guitar to flash a thin clear coat on ,, or add a little McGuire's compound to water .. every time you wipe down will buff to a gloss
I dig it...
Love Gibson, but I’m not a huge fan of this faded series. It’s just a satin finish on a $3k guitar that would typically have a gloss finish. I don’t really want to compromise at this price point… the ‘save a couple hundred dollars with an inferior finish’ argument isn’t making sense to me. (When I’m still spending close to $3k.).
I've got the gloss Les Paul Standard 60s. I wouldn't get this in a million years to save a few hundred bucks.
@@danpritchett5617got the gloss version and totally agree with you.
@@geosmith3436 can’t stand the pickguard on a les Paul. I personally hate the way a les Paul looks with a pickguard. It’s a deal breaker

@@danpritchett5617 its $2299 60s gloss 3k?
I actually prefer a plain top !
This rad rapscallion again tenders a prodigious authoring of phat and stanky tidbits of tone. No enjoyment embargo here
you could play a banana and make it sound incredible!
I like the satin nitro finish a lot more than the gloss lacquer finish. Way classier. Sexy af. ❤
