Did you notice this entry area is very similar to the hidden village in bloodborne? If you want to kill the dragons you will need a shit ton of arrows and a good bow. Good luck with the blue one in this area! You came SO close to majorly screwing up ostrava’s quest line, without realising it. But the dude in the cell is in the previous area. You went up the tower just before the tower knight. Look for the door down. You should have pure white tendency in all arch stones after doing the final bosses. But you already have it in boletaria.
You asked for some recommendations at the end of this episode. So I recommend next episode you tackle the final bosses you mentioned and also do the NPC quests you missed. Such as the NPC you couldn’t find in this episode, the NPC in Upper Latria, get the entire Fat Official set (hat, gloves, shirt, pants) for a quest in Boletaria, maybe explore Stonefang now that you have pure white tendency in there, etc. This should be enough for a lengthy episode.

I love how the Penetrator stabbing the Fat Official and throwing him inspired Artorias’s intro where he came in, stabbed a guy, and threw it at you. Then Artorias’s intro inspired Gael’s where Gael threw a Pygmy Lord at you. Penetrator from the first game helped pave the way for Slave Knight Gael. (P.S. you mentioned arrows on the dragons. Use poison arrows on the dragons and then when they are poisoned, switch to regular arrows until they need to be poisoned again)
True, although Penetrator leads more directly into O&S. Same design of the arena, with destructible pillars lining the room, just sized down. Ornstein has a very similar moveset to Penetrator, and although he fights with his fat buddy at the start, if Smough goes down first, he gets to the stabbing. It definitely feels like FromSoft looked at Penetrator and thought, 'How can we do this, but better?'
The dude in the cell is found before the tower knight boss arena, in that little area across the bridge. Theres a wooden door you can unlock. However, there is another NPC that you may not have been told about that is a little convoluted. Theres a hidden nook in the corner as soon as you walk past the tower knight arena, that leads to a locked gate, and then a lowerable bridge. You may be able to unlock the gate soon, but the bridge doesnt lower via a lever you can pull. Instead, you have to have a disguise, with a piece of fashion you recently acquired....
Yeah if they put a bonfire at the end of each level just before each boss fight, and limited healing items it would be a game changer for demons souls. Because the bosses are at the end of massive levels they kinda have to give unlimited heals.

So that cell you couldn’t find is located in 1-2. Remember that despite it being divided into 1-3, 1-2, etc., each of the archstones are all one giant level, so it is one area.
my personal top 3 bosses in demons souls: Flamelurker #1 Final Boss #2 Penetrator #3 idk what comes after them but Dragon God is last place thats for sure

Ostrava at 1% HP made me really nervous hopefully he didn't die offscreen I'm not sure exactly what happens to his corpse if he dies and you leave the level without looting
heyo! So the guy your looking for is at the second bonfire in the 1st world theres a door just before the tower knight boss arena. The order id do not that it really matters but Old Monk > Rotten Haven > Storm Place I think in terms of coolness that makes the most sense for the episode :) Oh and also you know that locked door you found at the beginning of the episode you should go back and check that out. its a little puzzle but use that head and youll figure it out
Quick Tip: Once you kill a boss, look at the blue smoke they emit. You should see a human figure. That figure was there former human self before they turned into that boss.

What you're seeing when the thief disappears at range is basically what happens you put on the Thief's ring. Even though you are within the visible draw distance, they can't physically see you until they get closer to you.
You should do your final ranking of all the soulsborne games at the very end, or a fun video with a tier list of all the bosses or your favorite music from each game. Although ranking all the bosses would make for an extremely long video lol Was paranoid that you wouldn't open the gate before Ostrava died, luckily he survived 🤣 Don't forget to go back to Upper Tower of Latria and jump to the lighted ledge with the cages before you took that elevator descent to spookiness, its worth checking out
There is an NPC quest tied to The Penetrator fight that you missed, you should look it up if you do another playthrough. In fact there are a couple of cool NPC questlines you have missed.
Among demons souls' bosses, penetrator has to be the most influential for the fromsoft following fromsoft bosses. Truly the OG of the one on one bangers
Yo, great video Mati. I didn't realize it until this video , but the Bolitarian assassins' and the Black knives assassins' have several things in common conceptually. Both are agile, have stealth properties where they can't be seen, and have daggers that look totally crazy.

So what are the next games you'll be considering playing? Any chance we can get the NIOH series? NIOH 1 isn't amazing, has great combat but terrible level design (so go in with that expectation and it won't be so bad) however NIOH 2 is excellent. The combat is sensational and there's so much build flexibility with the yokai moves, plus tons of weird demon bosses and if you want a challenge after Demons Souls NIOH 1 and 2 will def provide that for you.
quality again, Mati. Before you finish you may want to look up, or get advice on, how to get ALL the NPCs... there's loads of them... and some are fun to get to. You may have missed out on some White World Tendancy (without playing online) but you can still get Pure Black on every level. That will trigger unique events, NPCs and Items... you'll also get a chance to see what mad Fked up alien bug thing gives you "colourless" Demon's souls.... They're used to level up Boss Weapons... BOSS WEAPONS, MATI !!! Go make some of those... THEN finish the game. The Swamp Demon is such a sad, tragic tale... the Storm Demon IS super cinematic and the Monk kicks ass, too... have fun.

Ostrava absolutely can die from the red-eye knights if you don't save him. If he did die, he would have dropped a key that you want, and it will disappear forever if you leave the area, or die before picking it up.

Just a reminder - although the remake visually is very much current gen, nearly all the coding and AI of the enemies, including bosses, is still the same from the original 2009 game. Feel like that is important to keep in mind if you are feeling a bit let down by the "gimmick" fights or the lack of a very diverse moveset, like the Penetrator. You're still playing the proto-Souls game along with those design limitations of the time.
If others haven’t suggested it, let me be the first. Please please try magic. Just go to one of the earlier areas. Try the fire spell on the Squid face dudes in Tower of Latria. And try the regular basic spell on the Gates of Boletaria. It is an absolute blast. You will be amazed. i think you need to put some levels into Magic tho. You can’t complete this game without trying it. Penetrator and Flamelurker aren’t my favorite. Altar of Storms is my favorite by far. Make sure you have the music pumped for that one!
You mentioned how heavy grass is. That is actually what was added in for the remake. Before, all grass weighed 0.1 so any PvP just became incredibly tiresome as people could have 99 New and Dark Moon grasses and just full heal pretty much forever. Adding increasing weight to higher tier grasses is a welcome addition.

Freeing the NPC from his cell means he'll automatically join in The Penetrator boss fight which makes the boss fight way too easy. After the boss fight, you cal let him out and get his dialog exposition.
You cannot tackle the dragons in the first level, they will fly off at low health. You can tackle the Red Dragon in the 2nd level and the Blue Dragon at a later time. Then you can return to the Dragon's Nest at 1-1 and they will be gone.

I believe you need to farm the whole set in the remake, but you just need the hat in the OG
This is my second fav boss in the game, he has a great ost. Only problem is the infinite healing system which kinda makes every boss a joke.

Feel like that is important to keep in mind if you are feeling a bit let down by the "gimmick" fights or the lack of a very diverse moveset, like the Penetrator. You're still playing the proto-Souls game along with those design limitations of the time.
If others haven’t suggested it, let me be the first. Please please try magic. Just go to one of the earlier areas. Try the fire spell on the Squid face dudes in Tower of Latria. And try the regular basic spell on the Gates of Boletaria. It is an absolute blast. You will be amazed. i think you need to put some levels into Magic tho. You can’t complete this game without trying it. Penetrator and Flamelurker aren’t my favorite. Altar of Storms is my favorite by far. Make sure you have the music pumped for that one!

You mentioned how heavy grass is. That is actually what was added in for the remake. Before, all grass weighed 0.1 so any PvP just became incredibly tiresome as people could have 99 New and Dark Moon grasses and just full heal pretty much forever. Adding increasing weight to higher tier grasses is a welcome addition.

You should upgrade any bow to +7, then go to the Blacksmith in 2-1, and he will transform your +7 bow into a veeeery cool bow using a boss soul :D

You can get his armor set in the remake unlike the og version, but it's kinda annoying to get since you technically have to go into NG+

Freeing the NPC from his cell means he'll automatically join in The Penetrator boss fight which makes the boss fight way too easy. After the boss fight, you cal let him out and get his dialog exposition.

You cannot tackle the dragons in the first level, they will fly off at low health. You can tackle the Red Dragon in the 2nd level and the Blue Dragon at a later time. Then you can return to the Dragon's Nest at 1-1 and they will be gone.
