Medieval fantasy music..........I'm an Englishman, and hearing those opening chords always transports me back to the middle ages - a mystical world full of enchanted forests, elves and golden haired maidens! A lot of Zeppelin's songs were heavily influenced by JRR Tolkien, and it really shows on this classic.........I think, deep down inside, we're all yearning to return to some point in human history when there was still a sense of magic and wonder in this world......when knights fought with dragons, communities pulled each other through the bleakest of winters and darkness could be overcome with the swipe of a sword. My two cents...
I think this is the most listened to song in his-story. Led Zeppelin us the biggest band in his-story. Every song they ever did was great. Do you're self a favor and listen to any of there song you will become a fan. How about "whole lotta love" to get you started..🤘😇✌
I am a huge fan of Led Zeppelin - but I get it - it is sort of eerie in the beginning - but when hat guitar takes off - it is phenomenal. Sending you much love from Australia xoxo
I am PRETTY sure someone commented this already, but just in case... this band's guitar player, Jimmy Page, recorded the song "Come with Me" with Puff Daddy, where he plays the riff to Kashmir, another excellent Led Zeppelin song. So there's a connection to hip hop here. :)
The first time I heard this song was at a 6th grade dance (2001). I was doing great slow dancing like a champ. Hands on the hip and side stepping like a pro. Then that riff kicked in and I stood there not know what the hell to do. With a girl I really liked and being terrified to "fast dance". All while having to take in what the actual fuck I was hearing for the first time. She just walked away after seeing the panicked look on my face. I went home and asked my parents for a guitar and never looked back. Here's to forever letting the Led out.
So if you like the vibe this song gives off, check out by Led Zeppelin songs like The Rain Song, That's The Way, Going to California, Ten Years Gone, Thank You....But then there's this whole other side to them where they crank up the volume and speed and you have tracks like Immigrant Song, Achilles Last Stand, Trampled Under Foot, then songs that kind of exist in the middle like No Quarter and Dazed and Confused. There's a reason this band is considered one of, if not, the best classic rock/hard rock bands. They had a huge gambit of sound and songs ranging from blues, bluegrass, rock, experimental, folk and everything in between. You're just scratching the surface here. I envy you! I wish I could hear these songs for the first time again.
These guys were huge literature buffs too. The line "Rings of smoke through trees" is a reference to Bilbo and Gandalf blowing smoke rings in The Lord Of The Rings.
It is a folk song written for its time. It is, for me, about mother nature. About the May Queen when the hedgerows at the side of British roads come to life with all sorts of life. But we are on a path which is killing all wild life, but we can change the road we are on. Buying her stairway to heaven is not with money, but with looking after life. That is greatest credit.
I think the trick to understanding this song lyrically is to realize that the song isn't really about one thing in particular. He's using words to sort of paint an abstract picture of a series of emotions. It's sort of like a literary version of a Jackson Pollock painting. I could be wrong about this, but that's the way I've always thought about it.
Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd are the pinnacle of rock & roll, for 10 ten years there's not a bad song on any of their albums. Others to sample: Heart's "Crazy on You", "Magic Man", "Barracuda" - Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon", "The Chain", "Go Your Own Way" - Bob Seger's(The voice of rock & roll) "Night Moves", "Turn the Page", "Against the Wind".
I guess Im randomly asking but does someone know of a method to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
The song speaks on transitions, life, death, positive, negative, love, hate. Everything is interconnected, just like looking to the west and saying goodbye, the life span of a day ends in the west (sunset)and we look to the east for a new beginning (sunrise). In essence, it's a representation of the circle of life.
People think there’s something wrong with having feelings these days .. there’s nothing wrong with being sad or scared or anxious .. there’s nothing wrong with experiencing all types of emotions,, but we suppress feelings with smart phones now
Probably the most famous "music group" of the 20th century and their most famous song. It's not often that you have a member of your group who is in the top five playes of a particular musical instrument. Each of the four Led Zeppelin members are probably in the top three of their instruments.
This song is considered the greatest Rock song ever made. They also call it the forbidden tune, because it’s banned from being played in guitar stores 🔥🔥
Absolute masterpiece. Now you know why it is literally one of the most popular songs ever. It was relevant in 1971; it's relevant now; if you ever have a beautiful JayShara Jr., it will be relevant when she's your age. The best songs are timeless.
"Stairway To Heaven is more than THE antheme of the whole rock history, it's THE revelation at all. Now you have given them your soul and they will never give it you back.
Honestly, this entire album, Led Zeppelin IV, is a complete masterpiece. If you enjoy the kinda ominous slower paced songs, you should really check out Diary Of A Madman, by Ozzy Osbourne. Features one of the greatest guitarists ever, Randy Rhoads, and it has amazing instrumentals! I think you’d enjoy it.

Gotta watch this live from Madison Square Garden...unbelievable! More Zeppelin please! Best band to ever hit the planet. Led Zeppelin is the name of the band.
So there I was with my Led Zeppelin ticket for Wembley Arena around 1973/74 in North West London and my team lost at home on that Saturday. I was drenched in South East London and at 19 did not drive. To finish me off a Fishmonger accidentally threw boiling hot water over my legs as I returned home, as I lived over a large market. I decided NOT to go out by Public Transport to the other side of London after all that and NEVER did get to see Led Zeppelin who reformed for a few gigs 10 years ago minus the original drummer and tickets cost £200 or $250.... MY TICKET FOR 1973/74 ??????....................75 PENCE or ONE DOLLAR !
Now listen to this song performed by the band Heart live at the Kennedy center. Will blow you away. This song allows for your own interpretation. that's the greatness of the song
Hi Ms. Jay, One of the Best Songs ever, sung and played by the Best Rock Band ever.. Just for your entertainment U should view the 1973 Madison Square Garden live version of "Stairway To Heaven".. The guitar solo is 3 times as long.. They recorded the entire Show, put it in the Theatres & on VHS Tape, added visuals to it and it is credited to be one of the 1st. if not the 1st. Music Video.. Check out "Since I Have Been Lovin' You" from the 1973 Show.. ♠W.G.
This is the most requested song on the radio. It is over 50 years lld and sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Led Zeppelin is and always will be the best rock and roll band ever!
Hi JayShara, ur a natural at music reactions but u already know ths, thanx 4ur spot on analysis and will be waiting to see wht u decide to react to next
The song is a warning. It is telling the lady that loves gold that she is on the wrong path. She can't buy her way into Heaven. "Yes, There are two paths you can go on, but in the long run there's still time to change the road you're on." The song tells the lady, "Your stairway lies on the whispering wind." In other words, it will blow away before you can set foot on it.
You hit the nail on the head. It's quiet and mellow, drawing you in -- calm, but eerie and you want to learn the story. You can hear the different levels of music as it builds in intensity.
It appears that one big interpretation of this song is simple: "You may think that having all the gold in the world will get the stores to open for you and buy you a golden stairway to Heaven........but you would be wrong." Although, Zeppelin's love of Alistair Crowley says different! LOL
Stairway to Heaven has consistently rated in the top 10 Rock Ballads of all time, the guitar riffs are something that young guitarist everywhere aspire to learn and the lyrics are profound about life and the quest for fame and fortune balanced with moderation and happiness
Great reaction, especially when you said the band “ put themselves into the music”. Led Zeppelin in a nutshell they put heart and soul into everything they produced.
The way LED ZEPPELIN entices you, pulls you in and takes you on a ride, that’s every song they wrote. Rabbit hole alert, check out When the levee breaks......🎼🎶🎸🎸🤘😎🔥
You are getting yourself INTO the absolute greatest rock band of all time. They wrote this masterpiece before they were 20 years old, Sheer brilliance, Genius,
All of their songs are dynamic - one of the definitions being "a force that stimulates change". They also often have an aura of the mystical about them. Led Zeppelin will always take you on a journey.
Honestly, you nailed it, with "it makes me yearn for something". There's really not much more to it, he was just trying to convey an atmosphere to go with the music, but that's why it also works, because it's notoriously open to different interpretations, while Robert wrote these lyrics, just to accompany the anthemic style of Jimmy's themes on the guitar. You should react to the live version though, all the ladies love the singer, lol
Check out the live version of this song at Madison Square Garden 1973 , or since ive been loving you at the same time and place. Headphones are a must!
You just heard one of the most iconic rock songs and music compositions ever written and recorded. After decades of this being out it still hits the soul today because of the subject and how LZ put it all together.
