- On 22nd May, 2014, John Robertson went to The Comedy Lounge in Perth, Western Australia. It was the day before his best friend's funeral, so he was feeling pretty terrible. Luckily, some idiot heckled.

I will never understand why someone would serve themselves up on a silver platter to a comedian. Their entire job is to be funnier than you. You aren’t gonna win.

Win what? What would constitute a win? Shit comedians get up in front of thousands of people every night, if you think they are all without question the funniest people in the room, you’re wrong. That’s like saying magicians are the most entertaining people in a room... which I’m pretty sure has never happened ever.
I've seen John perform live and met him many times...his improv response to hecklers is totally spontaneous ..his sharp wit is incredible and very funny
Saw him do The Dark Room at Edinburgh fringe and he was the funniest thing I saw all month . He was amazing

he actually is, i've seen him perform a few times in this Dark Room show and he's blistering quick at coming up with related observational comedy especially gaming related, billiant to watch live :)

Well he mixed his own version of the "bible" into another version of fairy tale known as "bible" and created "Jesus idiot half brothers" saga. Interesting was hidden slight encouragement for audience to crucify this hecler after the show. As Atheist i gotta say that story was written hellawa lot better than original crap!
The sort of violent comedic metre of 'Haze of gelatin' and 'Turning water into domestic violence' really got me. Sorry to see VGN go, but look forward to seeing more of your material. HD, HV̲̅ !

+JonSnowLives a good portion was probably planned or at least thought of prior. so in essence you are seeing a good part of the act. a comedian without heckler handling is like fucking without a condom. not saying he expected this exact situation but i am sure he has made a minimal plan for heckler rebuttal.

Yea, any decent stand-up comedian has a strategy or set of techniques for dealing with hecklers and rude people during a show. Just look at Steve Hofstetter. The guy is internet famous for how he deals with hecklers to the point where a lot of people question if the hecklers are planted/paid audience members (which they're not).
Some standard stuff I've seen comics do regarding hecklers:
-Repeat what the heckler said so the rest of the audience can hear what they said and how dumb they sound
-If what the heckler said is unclear, ask them to repeat what they said
-Win the rest of the audience over by complimenting them on their good behavior
-Hang the heckler by the rope he made for himself with his inane comment
-This can be done in a variety of ways and the degree to which the heckler needs to be humiliated depends on the situation

Cyge Firstcaste If you were replying to me (which I think you are), I'm not a stand-up comic, nor do I plan to be. I just like to think that I'm fairly observant after having watched quite a few routines and heckler videos. I would never deign to think that I could do what a lot of these stand-up comedians do. I neither have as quick a wit or as much life experience from which to draw on as these professionals do in order to dispatch hecklers with as seemingly little difficulty as they do.
Regardless, sometimes I guess you have to learn through experience how to deal with hecklers and rude people. Or have someone who's been in the business a while give you a few tips.
