  • I have been wanting to try one of these shaping disks for a while. I finally have a project in mind where it will be useful so decided to order one and give it a try. I thought some of you might be interested in my initial impression of it.

This would be perfect for axe handles.

Thanks for the review. It worked better than I had anticipated. Its obviously not going to hold up as well as Kutzall however its good for a person who just needs it here and there.

Looks like it works great when brand new, but how long do they hold up? I know the Kutzall brands are 5-6 times the price :-(

I've been using it once in a while for close to a year now and it's still going with no noticeable wear. I mostly use it on softwoods. It is just plain steel though, so one nail or something like that would wipe it out I think.
For the price, it works as i would expect. I think of it like sanding disks, use it until it needs to be replaced. It's not a lifetime tool or anything! 🙂

Sadly we don't have Harbor Freight up here in Canada. We do have the oddly named Princess Auto which is sort of similar and has then at a good price if anyone is looking. 🙂

I live in Chicago. I have a few Harbor Freights close by. 25 years of Capentry experience. Not once have I ever stepped into a Harbor Freight anf never will.

@@bingefox4056 Well ok, you are a Sigel trade spechel tradesman in (Carpentry) and would not want or need to, I only go there if I need a tool or thing that I am only going to use once or a few times at the most in a long period of time ( years) or the tool may and will get destroyed in the prosses of use. There are Items but few that are just as good or the same as the name brands and are less costly. but to each their own. I am a multi-trade Tradesman so I don't want or need all the pro tools for each trade I do. It's just to fill the gaps when needed and sometimes it's because they have an item that is out of stock at other stores or it would be too much lead time in ordering.
