- The nice folks over at eXtremeRate have sent me one of their Wood Grain GBA Replacement Shell kits to review. In this video I'll show you how to install it, and give my overall impressions.
I'll also give away my second replacement shell to one lucky viewer. Just make sure to like the video and comment "Wood Shell" to qualify for the draw. I will draw on Tuesday September 7, 2020. Good to know. I've got 3 but never paid attention to that. Clearly this one's a replacement door
@@RetroRepairs In North America, the GAME BOY words were covered up with a sticker but they were there.
What would be really nice if they had a pre-cut version for the IPSV2 replacement screen.

AFAIK, lockdowns in Ontario have likely created a backlog of shipping and slowed down delivery of parts.
@@MarcoGPUtuber I've got a big backlog of packages at the border that i haven't been able to pick up, but also using my time at home fixing up the house so between working at home and that, i just don't have the energy and focus to fix stuff. Going to get back into it some more now that some projects have wrapped up

Thank you for the in-depth video! Got my own shell replaced -- though I went for a clear indigo, with black bumpers & blue buttons. It was my first handheld disassembly, it wasn't perfect [had a lot of issues with the screen & adhesive lol] but I didn't break anything & I'm super pleased.

Question . why do some GENESIS carts crash and are unplayable. On NBA live 98 Genesis i had a cart it displays sega library internall error crash error
I recently got a GBA from a friend and redid the shell (orange shell black buttons) with a super famicom glass screen protector. The shell is precut since i wanted the ips screen which was a bit of a hassle to install but well worth it. Must be pretty durable to i accidentally dropped the poor thing trying to carry it out with stuff to my car it fell about 5 feet onto a concrete patio but its totally fine after reinserting the ejected batteries lol. wood shell

@RetroRepairs, I have a broken copy of Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble for the GameBoy Color. The game is supposed to respond to you tilting the GameBoy by moving Kirby in the direction that you tilt it, but my copy of the game doesn't work. It's in great physical condition, but the tilt function isn't working. When the game turns on, you can test the function and every time I test it, Kirby always defaults to moving to the top left corner of the screen no matter what I do. I feel like it would be a challenge, but I trust you! I would like to have it back if you can fix it, but that seems selfish, so you can keep it if you want. Ironically I bought this as refurbished from, you guessed it, GameStop! I hope you can fix it, if you want it.

Ty for the review sir any pre cut for the new v2 ips LCD screen you'd reccomend? I've been loving the clear case w the super nes color button and holographic glass screen i think it looks slick. I was hesitant about the wood grain case bc I thought it might have been cheaply made and felt like plastic

I never understand how in youtube videos they can just snap the screen in and don't get any dust. I always do it with compressed air and guess what? Still dusty :D

I’ve recently took up trying to repair different consoles because of your videos, my first was an old psp I found in my garage, turned out great but I tore the white plastic clip that connects the screen to the board. Still works after putting some electrical tape to keep it down. Hopefully I get better lol. “ wood shell “

You should learn how to remove yellowing on the plastic they use. Also what about getting custom print stickers to replace shredded stickers on game carts.
Love these videos as well. drop an IPS display in to complete the build.

I ordered a shell not to long ago with buttons that dont really line up with the shell itself. I prefer the original ones and just reused them like u said. Much better!

Wood Shell ! It looks really great. It would really be better if they painted the battery cover on the inside as well but that is not a dealbreaker for me. Maybe you said it but is the display plastic or glass?

It looks nice, but as always OEM buttons and pads are better, sometimes I use even the original screws and metal shield
This wood shell looks great. I saw one with white buttons. That looked better as with the grey ones I'd say. Maybe black buttons look nice too but over all I love wood so I love the look of this shell.

That is a pretty woodshell Gameboy advance shell. Would match my walnut end tables nicely haha.
