Hi Scott. Just bought the XF10. As a Fuji user I just wanted something that would fit in my pocket. Have been delighted with images and was really surprised with you problems with focusing. Have had no real issues. However, it is a compact and I didn’t expect it to compare to my Xpro2 or x100f. I think for the money it’s great value. If they started to add many of the other features like flipping screen etc then the price would soar.
I started with the xpro1 and currently use the ex3 as my main camera, thinking of getting the xf10 as my point and shoot, to me it looks simple with the less buttons I love that about it. How do you like like?
@@fred5nyc originally shooting with Olympus OMD EM1, and love having my fuji xf10 on the side, not perfect but always with me, so small you can carry it every day in your pocket. less buttons and pushing you to change your approach,.
Most of those "missed focus" shots are just motion blur. There is no image stabilization in the xf10. Not an issue if you're holding the camera steady and watching your shutter speed.
I have an X70 and love that I can use the flip screen to shoot discretely. It takes great photos and is my “go to” camera when I don’t want to lug around my DSLR.
Try changing the "Release/Focus Priority" setting to "Focus". If it is on "Release" it will try to refocus even after you've confirmed focus with the half shutter press. I hated my x100f until I found this. I like to spot focus then recompose.
Definitely. With all fujifilm cameras, especially when you're using the pancake lens for some reason, you have to use a function button for autofocus. I assume it has something to do with the short depth of field these wide lenses have?
Sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my account password. I love any tips you can give me.
@Luis Dominik thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Why in the world Fuji haven't just upgraded X70, e.g.weather resistance, new sensor, bigger buffer (faster FPS) and optional EVF like Pany, Oly and Leica have, for the same price and everybody would be happy...
I don’t have an issue with the snap focus, maybe you’re experiencing a lag in the audio FX of the shutter? Hyperfocal approach doesn’t require anything to change in the camera, so having a hard time understanding what you feel isn’t happening. Shutter lag wouldn’t change from this mode to another.
Great camera for what it is, low price + APSC sensor in your pocket you can take it anywhere. If you are loaded buy something else if you aren't this will do the job just as well.
I don't get it: which other compact camera does better according to you? It's an amazing camera for what it is and the autofocus is not that bad at all (it's actually as good as the X100T's). Now it's not the X-T3 or the X-H1 but the X-F10 delivers! As for me a full APS-C 24MP sensor and a leaf shutter in a fully customizable well built pocket camera by Fuji is massively impressive for a point and shoot camera 😉
Agree with everything you said except the AF. It’s easily confused, hunts and misses too often. Hopefully a firmware update helps but I’m glad to hear it’s working for you. As for other compact cameras that do better? The X70.
Possibly. I’ve shot with Fuji cameras for a long time though so settings shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve had a lot of feedback from people having similar issues.
Thanks for the review. Even if the focusing worked to your satisfaction, I really don’t get the Fuji market strategy of this camera, unless it’s merely price point. The X70 is an amazing compact performer that I have with me all the time when i don’t have my work kit with me, and I absolutely love that camera and all the features including the touch/tilt screen. I can’t see anyone who has had that experience ever being satisfied with this dumbed down version because of a larger sensor. Oh well. I recently picked another like-new X70 on eBay when this disappointment was released and glad I have a backup to my favorite little companion. Since you have a company connection, please pass this on: “You can do better than this Fuji.”
Hi, thanks for the review. Does this have a dof scale when manual focussing a la ricoh gr (I mean not just showing the point of focus, but the whole distance which would be in focus? Thanks
thanks was interested in this camera but now will wait for the Ricoh GR 3. maybe a firmware update will fix the problem or do you think its a hardware issue ?
I had the x70, all the focus issues I have heard about this xf10 camera are atrocious I don't get it either. I will be waiting tir the GR III next yr...Fuji should have just done a X80 update!!!
Hey ,that's why I brought this camera back .. and bought the xt100 :) first I thought it was because of me that I missed so many shots because of the focus .. so thanks that I am not the only one
@Dee S I use X70 for two years (same dimension as XF10) with strap and half-open tilt screen. That is my style of shooting 90% of the time (for street photography when I need to be unnoticeable, to make pause while I'm walking and to frame while I'm walking), so my camera must have strap + tilt screen, although sometimes I use X100F which doesn't have tilt screen and is more difficult to me to take camera up and shoot, I can't framing while I'm walking etc... I hope that all future cameras will have tilt screen.
Completely agree. I was so looking forward to test it out..i mean great Fuji image quality in a pocket. Boy, i was so disappointed. I would still choose x70 over this. I would be happier with a x70 MKII with a new sensor.
@@boris.dupont image quality is perfect as expected from fuji, but performace is much worse than than the old x70. I had the x70 for a year and tested the xf10 for a while.
@@Scott_Graham Bummer to hear that this AF is slow though. I've been on the lookout for a pocketable APSC wide angle like this and I'd rather go Fuji than Ricoh if possible - love the Classic Chrome jpegs.
@@Scott_Graham i have one and i updated firmware. The focus is not that bad. The pictures this thing takes are amazing. I have an xt1 also. The xf10 pictures are night and day better in low light.
I was going to buy it but finally I didn't just because the shop haven't available any spare battery (I was thinking to use that camera for street photography).. oh well I've been lucky! FSSHH
eva eriksson What is considered ‘bad’ autofocus to some photographers might not applies to others. Why not try one for yourself first? Back then, everyone hated X-Pro1’s autofocus. But coming from SLR/Leica philosophy, having auto-focus is already bonus/redundant! Lol
I think the firmware recently addressed many of the problems you mentioned. It’s honest videos like this that help us all. Well done.
Thanks!

X70S or riot.
I kinda like how some of your examples of it missing focus, are actually motion blur which from what I understand is not the cameras fault

Revisit with a firmware update?
If I get another review unit I will.
Would you mind giving this camera another try with the firmware update that was released this week?
I’d love to but I’ve sent the camera back.
Was the autofocus ever resolved with firmware updates or should I keep saving up to find an x70?
I believe the latest firmware has improved AF but I haven't been able to test it.
I got one with the new firmware. Focus is okay in my opinion
Just loving that 80's porn music in the background
😂
mer mer mer "autofocus system" you have to compromise certain things for size & iq ... as people have stated af is perfectly usable
I respectfully disagree.
its a shame that the auto focus system was lagging, was always a big fan of Ricoh and Fuji, now Im considering a Sony RX100 7.
What light was that on the xt100

Music 🎶 is extremely distracting !
Man, Fuji Canada just lends out cameras like candy. Fuji USA, please TAKE NOTES!!
Such a shame as the X70 is awesome. Lets hope they respond to the new GR
Thank you for the review. I'm wondering could it use the wide converter lense like the X70 could? As they have the same lenses.
No it can’t.
Just checking.... was gonna wait for the GR iii anyways :)
Bad downgrade from X70 (no flip screen, no ss/aperture controls, no external flash, even you can't attach strap - only hand strap)

Oh wow, um... I’d say GR2 or X70.
your camera is defective, mine focuses perfectly.
Mine as well! It's actually as good as the X100T's
Glad to hear it.
No, it does have AF issues.
Mine can be a little slow in low light, but no where near as bad as this review.
Just about every review I've read and many owner reports bemoan the very poor auto focussing. There must be a lot of defective devices out there!

Nope.
Ok Why has no one done a video of the XF10 vs. Ricoh Gr3. Same focus system half the price. Only 2 apsc cams of this Size
