Is it worth it for most people? Naw. Is it worth it for those who need the specific parameters that only the X70 can fit in 2024? Hell yeah. The beauty about photography is there are so many choices for tools, so everyone can find the tool that's worth it for their goal.
This seems like a great choice to have if you’re really comfortable with the fixed focal length. I picked up a RX100 III for 300 bucks and ticks all the boxes as a pocket alternative for my iPhone 14 (which already gives me great capability on the go) Old is gold and you can never go wrong with those zeiss glass, and seems much the same for the pancake on here
I have two X70s and they are the cameras I am most emotionally attached to. There is something magical about certain Fuji optics. What's more, the X70 is a camera that doesn't scare the person in front of you. Recently, however, I have been leaving them in disuse and the GR3 is always with me. Of course I still have no idea how long we will have to wait to get the successor to this little gem. Come on Fuji no need for a new X100, XT5 etc etc give us this damn X80. 💎
I hope they'll bring the X80 as some kind of a baby X100V (with the flip-up screen), a new sensor and updated firmware. That would be my dream pocket camera. Maybe even with a 35mm lens on it.
The Fuji X70 is a great Camera and yes the prices on it have gone up but if you think about it there is no other camera like it. Yes there is the Ricoh GR III but that camera has no flash and I hate to say it the AF is not very good on it and no tilt screen. Keep in mind that the X70 is now 8 years old and the AF had it's limits at the time. If you are buying an X70 you will keep that in mind just like the X-E1 AF. I got an X-70 a year ago and it is a little gem. Fuji just needs to come up with a new version of it but they are probabley afraid that it will hurt the X100 line sales.
The X70 is fun to use in manual with zone focus. Lock focus at 1, 2 or 3m at f8 and the 28mm lens gives you tons in focus. Just point and shoot. If you set a function button as AF you can quickly change your manual focus distance without fiddling with the focus ring. I too hope Fuji revisits this camera, it could be a serious contender to the GR series.
Interesting! So the lever on the front to manual and then bind the AF to FN or the record button? I need to try this cause the auto focus is the only thing that could break it for me but I got the camera anyway and will Try.
I have the Fuji XF10 which is the successor of the X70. The XF10 fits the bill as a pocketable street photography camera especially for night scenes. Its auto focus is at least reliable with the latest firmware. I don't even need to look at other alternatives.
I have the X70 for many years and it is still almost every day with me. Even if the shutter Botton is loose and AF is not working great anymore because of it. Back button focus and done :)
I love my x70, the size the sensor and the glass. I have a number of Fuji cameras and lenses but the x70 is used the most. It’s so light and great for documenting family life . I can’t see a day when I would ever sell it. Prices today are insane, I’m not sure I’d take the leap at these prices unless you have used one before. FYI, take a small mini manfrotto tripod with you and shutter release and it takes great night images. I take mine around Sydney Harbour while everyone is lugging around loads of gear.
I've had the same fascination with this camera. The trouble with buying it now is not so much that it is dated but actually physically old. I'm not paying that money for a circuit-board that's running on borrowed time already.
I got the Gr3 ang the fujix70. But I seem to gravitate more with x70. I bring it more in my travels. I think its the built, tactile controls and the colours.
Good thoughts. I've had two X70's (the first one wore out and started to fall apart). I then had the X100V which gave superior results in all ways. However, my fave is the X-E4. Hands down.
Yess X70, my first fujifilm camera, bought in 2018 used for $300 with original leather case after my ricoh gr died, to me its the best camera for anything, street, travel, family. Sold many fuji cameras but always keep this little gem. ❤
I love my X70, after years and years of ‘work’ photography.. this little slow camera made me enjoy taking pictures of daily life again. I take it absolutely everywhere.
👑 I loved the years of images I spent with mine. I upgraded to the Ricoh GRIII last year, and I miss the flip up screen. I'd absolutely put a UV filter on it though. Mine got a chunk of gunk on the sensor super early on - so I couldn't shoot more than f5.6. My only real complaint about this camera is that the lens at f2.8 is calibrated to only shoot up close. Every time I tried to get a bigger scene at f2.8 it was real mushy. Easily avoidable though.
If this isn't worth it for the price, do you have any alternative camera suggestions that have an APS-C sensor, similar small camera body, compact f2.8 AF lens, and flip up screen for a total of ~500 to 700usd? Edit: I looked on ebay and facebook marketplace to see the prices of the cameras you mentioned in the video. A used GR2/GR3 goes for $800-$1000, x-e2 goes for $500 for the body only, and x-pro 2 goes for $1000 body only. Adding an AF lens would add even more to the total cost, so i'm trying to find a real viable alternative to the x70 for the same or less price
I've had X70s since they came out in 2016. Before these I was shooting the GR2 (and GR..same camera) for years. This camera is amazing for street photography when you work with ZONE FOCUSING. Go in manual focus and use the distance scale that appears on the screen. Leave it at 1.5 or 2m and forget about focus. Just shoot. It's not meant to be used with autofocus. If you wanna use it like that, get another camera. But nothing is faster than a prefocused camera. Not even the fastest autofocus of 2024. I use the backbutton focus if I need to be really precise for one pic. But 99% is zone focusing.
We now have the answers and I personally LOVE the upgrades and pre ordered the X100VI. The 40MP sensor gives you 35/50/70 FF equivalent focal length in a fixed lens body. With the wide/tele converter you have 28/35/50/70/100mm FF equivalent in a tiny package with built in ND, leaf shutter, etc. The IBIS in the same body is incredible and now makes this a viable video camera in addition to stills. For someone like me who is a photographer first and loves the analog feel, but also wants to capture content in an everyday/travel sized camera, this is the ultimate camera.
X70 what can I say, great review from your perspective of never using one before and the fact that it’s 2024👌. Had one from launch day, still the most loved and special camera… had full frame Canons, Nikons, medium formats, Leicas, even Sony… nothing matches the love i have for the 70, class is class and worth paying for, even in 2024👍
I bought the X70 in 2017, one of the last new ones in the shop. I still use it very much for certain projects, and as a back-up camera it is an awsome camera. But, of course it has limitations, such as that the autofocus that could be better. As a pockatable camera it is quite unique, especially when one is using the Fuji system anyhow. The flipscreen i use regularly, especially for low shots, or over the head shots. I have also bought a very useful ClearViewer attachment, with which i can shoot with the camera at eylevel, and that makes a viewfinder out of the screen. Today's second hand prices are insane. I don't know if i would spend more on an 8 year old second hand camera than i paid for it new. But i seem to have a hand in buying cameras new that later become legendary and cost more second hand than when new. I have used my Contax T3 extensively for more than a decade and a half, and still have it around in case i work again on an analog project, or continue with one or the other analog projects of the past. Another such camera is my Fuji X-E4, which i waited months for until my order finally arrived, and is now second hand already at least as expensive than what i paid for new. That is another underated but incredibly useful camera. But back to the X70. I have always loved pocketable cameras in addition to my regular set up. There are situations where small cameras are an advantage. In situations where people might be hostile to cameras small cameras are less conspicious, in dangerous areas a small camera can disappear in one's pocket and not attract robbers straight away. Or simply when one goes out not primarily intending to take photos and does not want to burdened with a large equipment. For those situations the X70 is an ideal camera. Unfortunately though the choice of pocketable cameras with large sensors is quite limited. I am extremely glad that i bought my X70 when i did. I would never sell it.
I very much appreciated hearing your thoughts on this. Sure, there are bigger cameras out there that offer better specs for less money, but the size of the X70 is a primary component of its appeal, that and the tilting screen. It fits in the pocket of your pants if your pants aren't tight. Nothing marks one like a tourist or a "photographer" than gear strapped around the neck. Sure, for dedicated sessions there are better cameras, but I've found nothing better for casual walks about town. The tilt screen comes in handy when trying to get away from the eye-level view of most shots, and is super when shooting kids at their eye level. Its suitability for street photography is the reason it retains its price on the used camera market, because you haven't been able to buy a new model since 2016.
I agree with what you said. I owned it for about 6 months and the focus was the reason I got rid of it. Lovely camera but it shows it's age as far as focus and other aspects you pointed out. It would be amazing if Fuji would release a X80 with the current autofocus system and sensor. Now that camera would be amazing. One can only wish.
Your review is a fair one for sure. I bought my X70 when it was introduced and have used it extensively and love it. I still throw it in my bag when I want to travel light - particularly on work trips. But would I pay $600+ for a used one today - nope. Hoping Fuji does us all a favor and treats us with a X80.
Great camera. Hope they will one day bring out a successor. If they fix the aperture ring being easier to grip as well as putting 3.5mm mic jack and IBIS in there then it can also be used as vlogging cam. Of course with a new sensor and great autofocus. Like a X100VI but without the fancy viewfinder. So also a cheaper solution (around 800 bucks) Otherwise yeah the price is way too much nowadays. Its worth 300-400 bucks max.
Really good idea! I used to use viewfinders a lot to learn photography and thought I could never live without but omg shooting on screen is just so much easier and sometimes you can quickly get shots you can never get again. We need X80!
Love your videos and passion my friend, do you plan on uploading your videos in 4K? there is so much detail on your shots that we miss in 1080p, just wishful thinking. And hope you are having a good start of the year so far :)
On my second X70 and can't see me selling as missed it so much the first time! Some of my favourite street captures been taken with this. I have the X100V but the little X70 is incredibly stealthy and pretty much goes unnoticed on the streets. Just recently returned from hols in Morocco and don't think I would have gotten as many captures with the eye catching silver 100V, (stumbled across a new one at original selling price and whilst originally wanting in black didn't hesitate and jumped on it!)
Unpopular opinion: at the end of the day a camera is simply a tool and it’s way better to focus (no pun intended) on one’s photography itself instead of gear
I bought this camera early last year in Indonesia for around $270 in a used camera store. Man… I was lucky .. Had a chat yesterday with the store owner … all Classic Fujifilm camera has been sold out 😊 … the price went up crazy too
I bought the X70 when it was new (can't remember which year it was) but never used it much. I wouldn't buy it again. Recently, I tried it again - and still think it's not for me. The 28mm just is way too wide for most subjects. Focusing doesn't work particularly well for me, The camera feels too tiny and has too little grip for my hands. I also still couldn't figure out how to get the grid being displayed on the screen, even though I switched on that option. I once bought it as a lightweight alternative for my Nikon D750, however I ended up with preferring the D750 with a lightweight 50mm very much over the X70.
with that type of camera, doing street work.. you put it in manual focusing, and use hypo focus....set f/8...set the focus area, and snap away. I do this with my X100s and X100F.. I would LOVE an X70....
I've been around when the first digital cameras started to appear. My first digital camera was an Olympus in 2002. Fast forward, the development has been amazing and there are improvements every year and camera generation. However, at some point in time, around 2010 ish plus, quality improvements became more and more marginal. In the right hands, any good camera, like the X70, can take fantastic pictures. I used my 5Dmk2 from 2011 till 2020 and it was from the first to the last picture an awesome picture machine.
I switched from XT30 II better be worth it cause I don’t care too much about image quality it’s all about the vibe, pocketable and ease of use. Love that double exposure shot wow!!! I saw some before but the simplicity of it is great, the location is just awesome
I just ordered one today for $500 dollars. The manual focus isn’t working but I can use back button focus hopefully. Arrives tomorrow- looking forward to it. Great review and photos brother 👍🏿👍🏿
So I’m currently looking at buying the x70 as a social/travel camera! I love the dreamy filmy look and the vibrant colours it captures, and I feel like it does casual/not hype realistic style better than the similarly priced xe 3 of xe 2. I like how small it is, I love how it looks, I love the selfie screen, and I love the photos. But if it’s not worth it in 2024, what is the alternative? It’s still cheaper than the x100t, x100f and x100v… what would you suggest
xe2 has the same sensor as x70,better autofocus, evf ,not tilted screen ,but interchangeable lens system and half the price.Pair it with xf27mm f2.8 and there you go.
@KingJvpes, have you find why the x70 wont auto focus on those highlight & shadow areas (time stamp 02:50), even when its on early broad day light(almost)?
Good review. Fantastic to see lots of the gang out as well. You are correct in summary. Great but not great enough given it’s current market value and competitors.
picked a minty x70 up on FB marketplace about a year ago for $350. While I have (and love) a GRII digi, plus an x100s, and xpro2, I wanted the fuji colors in a smaller form factor. It's a cool little camera, but the AF has let me down quite a bit. So much so that I find myself throwing the GRII in my sling bag more often than not because I know that I can trust the results. With all of that being said, if you can pick one up cheap like I did, sure, go for it. Just manage your expectations and always remember that there's no such thing as the perfect camera - there's only the camera that's perfect for the task at hand.
Looking for a small Fuji (smaller and cheaper than the XE) and ended up with a XA 2. Flippy screen, interchangeable lens (I use the Fuji 18mm f2). This small set up is just great for me, the body less than $200. Admittedly a Bayer filter sensor, not X trans, but honestly not sure I can tell the difference. 700+ bucks for the X70? Not for me
The magic with Fuji photos is in the X-Trans sensor though. Their Bayer sensors are just OK but dont have the Fuji look. You are better off going Sony at that point.
@@michaelbell75 I personally don't think the difference is that much, at least when using film simulations, and was better than I expected, though the raw may be a different matter for sure. Interestingly, I did try using a smaller Sony - a NEX 5, and you're right that they are a good alternative but unfortunately the images didn't set me on fire and I ended up selling it again. The main reason for going to a low end Fuji was that I already have lenses (for my X-Pro2) so it made sense (and the A2 is was pretty cheap).
@@timrpbrown I had the 5r and regret selling t earlier this year. Just picked up an NEX 6 with a Sigma 30 f/1.4 and it's excellent. But yea, if you already have Fuji lenses, makes sense to stay with that system. I have Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fuji and Panasonic cameras currently ha.
damn, i have just learned about this camera now. what in the world. very tempting to get this but I use an awesome Fujifim Klasse W which might be it's film cousin.
This was my first Fuji camera and I owned it for a few years. It's good but not great. The picture quality is good but the performance is lacking. And I don't think the 28mm equivalent lens is as flattering compared to the 35mm equavilent in the x100's series.
The used prices for Fujifilm cameras are getting pretty out of hand. I am thrilled with the collection that I have, but it's gonna be a while before I add something new to it for sure.
This is the real hero camera from Fuji. Everyone wants the x100 but for most this is the better camera. Very small, still have all the same features as other Fujis from that generation plus the tilt screen. The price is high, but the camera is woth it if you are looking for that type of pocketable fixed lens camera.
There's a lot appealing about the x70. Form factor. Physical dial controls. That Fuji look. Flash. But the fact that I've seen used prices for it higher than new Ricoh GRs just feels absurd. It'd be fantastic if Fuji made an update, but these prices for a camera this old... I just couldn't do it.
Thank you for this video. I own a X70 and don’t use it very much. I don’t like the 28mm FOV. I take it with me for parades and protests. The focal length, for me, is too wide. I have to get closer to my subjects than I feel comfortable with. In addition, I have to be more aware of the periphery of the frame than normal. Don’t like the GRiii for the same reason. Plus no EVF. Is the X70 overpriced? Certainly. So is the X100V/VI. So is the XE3/4. Fuji cameras have been tiktoked. Old cameras have old technology. Duh. The question is do the images coming out of this camera justify the slower operation? Are you willing to spend the asking price? I am buying six year old Panasonic GX8/85/9 and very happy with them. At the end of the day that is the question. Are you satisfied with the cameras and lenses you own? If you can get a XPRO2 for the same price as the X70 I’d buy the XPRO all day long. Of course the XPRO is going to be more expensive than the X70 if you need to buy some glass. Also own the XE1. An old camera. Older than the X70. It has the 1st Fuji Xtrans sensor so many Fiji users love. A good. Slow. 16mp sensor. It does the job for me. Then again I am doing street and not sports photography. The right tool for the right job. I’m an old guy. I’m giving bodies that were too expensive for me several years ago another chance. Now that I’m old it isn’t such a bad thing. Especially considering the alternative. Beautiful golden hour light. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
The hype around some of these older and much older DCs is unreal 😂. I sold a barely used Powershot “digicam” that I found laying around for $200 the other day. Five years ago I would not have been able to give it away for free.
It's crazy how all the smallest old Fuji cameras are selling for more than the old x-pro cameras. Hopefully Fuji gets the message and gives us some more small body cameras and pancake lenses.
Fuji is too busy raking in the cash from their Instax line to bother making new X mount cameras. Thats why they can't even produce the X100V. They make FAR more money from the Instax line, thats why they put out new models like every couple months.
I picked one up in 2020 and enjoy it a lot. The used prices have gotten crazy though. I could flip it for about twice what I paid for it. Once the x100v became a viral hit on social media and RUclips, demand for it and older x100 models went crazy. I just wish Fuji would make a new generation of the x70. They went in the different direction with the XF10 and it was a flop. And then they sort of abandoned this product space.
I agree that the current prices make it a poor value in 2024. It's actually going for above the 2016 launch price of $699, which is crazy for a 7-year-old camera! And I agree that the autofocus is the weakest part of the camera. I bought mine for around $429 in 2020 and I think that price was reasonable. The design and small size really is great. I disagree somewhat that the a XE is a good substitute. I have an XE-2 and even with the 27 mm pancake, it's substantially bigger.
The x70 is not a good camera. It's just an ok camera. Aside from auto focus issues, the lens is soft. It's not very sharp at all. $700 to $1200 it's currently going for is absolute insanity.
$700 for a point and shoot? No way. While point and shoots can be fun and some have some extra features...it's really hard to beat your cell phone if you just want a point and shoot. You can get some really killer cameras for that kind of money. If you are into it cool, but way too much for me. Dig your videos. Maybe I'll see you out there one day.
Is the Fuji x70 still worth it in 2024? Also drop a like on this episode as it helps my channel out a ton! New videos every week Thanks gang ❤️

I would not sell mine for $700. In fact it's a keeper.
This seems like a great choice to have if you’re really comfortable with the fixed focal length.

Man. Seeing all of those photographers come together, sharing their passion, is so nice to see. Wish that stuff could happen over here in Germany too.
I wish that too 😢!!
Thought the same, I never have that haha.
I hope they'll bring the X80 as some kind of a baby X100V (with the flip-up screen), a new sensor and updated firmware. That would be my dream pocket camera. Maybe even with a 35mm lens on it.

YES! Simples!
I still use mine, but bought when it was first manufactured and available in 2016 - an EDC (Every Day Carry) camera!
I love Fuji but asking more than 200 usd for one of those these days is robbery.
Great video.. I just got mine yesterday. Still learning how to use it. The double exposure shot was great. Where is it in the settings?
You could probably get a Fuji xe3 for that price , with interchangeable lenses , this would be a great camera if it wasn’t priced at 700 dollars

So also a cheaper solution (around 800 bucks)
Otherwise yeah the price is way too much nowadays.
I'd buy an updated X70 in a hot second.
i own it for a several years now, and never had an idea to sell it :) Graeat video!
Thank I’ll stick with my X-E3 with the XF27mm, which gives me that compact point and shoot when I need it
I just ordered one today for $500 dollars. The manual focus isn’t working but I can use back button focus hopefully. Arrives tomorrow- looking forward to it. Great review and photos brother 👍🏿👍🏿
I use back button focus only, works great
Just ordered mine today for 480$ ! Can't wait to shoot on my next trip. X-TRANS II sensor is legendary.
X70 is truly a gem and always my trusty buddy when travelling. It always performs.
This was an excellent presentation Thank you
Yooooo it was cool af seeing you in the wild with the homies! Also finally meeting you. Like I said “been watching you for years!”
Where were those images taken?
How many 8 year old cameras are worth the same as they did when they were new? Love my X70.
WCL-X70 wide conversion lens ...the flash will sync at any speed up to 1/2000 a sec...cheers
Sick photos!! What recipes did you use ?
Got really lucky this week. After watching your videos I was able to find one at FB Marketplace for $300 😁
We love you ❤ looking forward to more 2024 content 😊
🥹🥹🥹 thanks Juseppi. You’re officially a Bay Area boy now btw 😅
@KingJvpes, have you find why the x70 wont auto focus on those highlight & shadow areas (time stamp 02:50), even when its on early broad day light(almost)?
Would you say a good alternate for this is an xe1/2 with the 18mm f2, or even the pancake 27mm f2.8???
Hyped camera. Flawed autofocus. Not worth it. Thanks for the video!
Just manage your expectations and always remember that there's no such thing as the perfect camera - there's only the camera that's perfect for the task at hand.
please stop making content about the x70 so people will stop buying them 😂
Looking for a small Fuji (smaller and cheaper than the XE) and ended up with a XA 2.
As fotos foram editadas ou são pela configuração de filtro da x70?
damn, i have just learned about this camera now. what in the world. very tempting to get this but I use an awesome Fujifim Klasse W which might be it's film cousin.
This was my first Fuji camera and I owned it for a few years. It's good but not great. The picture quality is good but the performance is lacking. And I don't think the 28mm equivalent lens is as flattering compared to the 35mm equavilent in the x100's series.
You have to make a video on the fuji xf10 its the smaller version of the x70 a bit more like the griii but with different problems.
👀 hmmm
@@KingJvpesalso very keen for that review. Cheers!
Wait. I've had my X70 for nearly 3 years and I didn't know you could do double exposures with it. How!?
The used prices for Fujifilm cameras are getting pretty out of hand. I am thrilled with the collection that I have, but it's gonna be a while before I add something new to it for sure.
This is the real hero camera from Fuji. Everyone wants the x100 but for most this is the better camera. Very small, still have all the same features as other Fujis from that generation plus the tilt screen. The price is high, but the camera is woth it if you are looking for that type of pocketable fixed lens camera.
There were rumors they might release the X80. I’m strongly thinking of picking up the X100VI that is getting released next
I will definitely buy one :) Thanks for your video😋
There's a lot appealing about the x70. Form factor. Physical dial controls. That Fuji look. Flash. But the fact that I've seen used prices for it higher than new Ricoh GRs just feels absurd. It'd be fantastic if Fuji made an update, but these prices for a camera this old... I just couldn't do it.
Hope i will put my hands on this camera one day. Love the camera. I have the ricoh Gr iii to wait by the way
Thank you for this video.
I love my X70, fuji optics what's not to like!
The hype around some of these older and much older DCs is unreal 😂. I sold a barely used Powershot “digicam” that I found laying around for $200 the other day. Five years ago I would not have been able to give it away for free.
Awesome video my friend!! 🤘🏼
It's a nostalgia camera 📸!!! The photos you made great 👍🏾
Amazing narration!
I really hope to buy one some Day Soon.
Super helpful.
I had one for 2 years. I loved the images but AF was its great weakness. Eventually it had to go to make my x-t5 possible.
Do the fujifilm x10 please!
Good review, common sense to get an interchangeable lens body unless the X70 lens is THAT good.
How is the lens anyway, the photos look sharp.
Is the Fuji X70 worth it in 2024?
Not at the current $700 USD going rate on ebay!
I own two. I'm waiting for next version :(
worth it
Dang Reggie B, Adrian Per and now JVPES too? X70 is back
🥶
X80 now!
rip the prices
Got mine for $350 last year. Spent another $50 for accessories. Tenno Heika Banzai
The X70 is not the best camera I have, but somehow it's the camera I have taken the most beautiful pictures with.
For most people, no. Still a beautiful camera!
The x70 is not a good camera. It's just an ok camera. Aside from auto focus issues, the lens is soft. It's not very sharp at all. $700 to $1200 it's currently going for is absolute insanity.
Agree too pricey for the money. The af is outdated but can me good in many situations
Nice photos!
