    Great video. I need to do this to my 2018 Odyssey Ex-L, and this looks very similar, so I think this will be quite helpful. One thing you didn't explain is how the pressure sensor connects to the rail. Do you need a special tool to get that off? One other question. The Dealer wanted about $450 for parts and another $550 for labor to do all 6. I would have done it but their injectors are 6 months backordered. My plan is to try to back-flow clean the injectors with carb cleaner to see if that helps... we have cylinders 1-3 all randomly misfiring. I found some off-brand injectors on amazon, a set of 6 for $100. Should i try those, or just try the cleaning? Ideally i'd have the dealer parts but can't wait 6 months. Thanks!

      The pressure sensor is just a connector it's just covered by a rubber sleeve I pop off the rail first then disconnect it and then just before I install it I reconnect it and install the rails with the injectors. Why is the dealership charging for this repair? Are you in Canada? They have extended the warranty to 10 years 240k kms so you shouldn't be paying for the repair. I would not trust $100 injectors you get what you pay for.

      @@theoffroadingmechanic thanks! I am not sure. We bought the car used and it now has 78300 miles. Last week they adjusted valve clearances and replaced cover gaskets for $800 which didn’t fix it. It is a dealership. Stockton Honda in Salt Lake City utah.

      I'm not sure if the US has the same warranty extension as us in Canada but it is for the P0300 to P0306, P0420, P0430, P219A, P219B codes. What needs to be done is update the software for the PGM-Fi and depending on which codes you have there is a flow chart on what kind of repair is needed. It should be covered 10 years 150k miles. Maybe try a different dealership doesn't seem like the one your going to knows what they're doing.

      If you google "technical service bulletin Honda reference number 21-010" you will find that bulletin in national Highway traffic safety

    One of the best videos I've seen on injectors for 3rd gen Pilots. I'm a decent DIY mechanic but, after watching you, I think I'll defer to the pros for this one. I started with a P0301 (Cyl 1 misfire). I replaced the spark plugs (it was at 100K miles anyways) but now I've graduated to dual P0172 (System Too Rich - Bank 1) and P219A (Air- Fuel Ratio Imbalance) codes. I have an appointment with Honda to look at it, which will no doubt lead to replacing the injectors. And apparently they're all on back order and the wait is over a month, too. Yay for me.

    This is the second video I’ve seen people open up the J35Y series V6 engines (with plastic intake). I just hope more people take a look at the intake valves since it’s a GDI engine. Never heard anyone complain about carbon on the mentioned valves.
    How does Honda avoid excessive carbon on the intake valves? Other manufacturers were forced to switch to dual injection (intake and direct) methods… I’m impressed

      Haven't had a v6 come in with drivability issues due to carbon on the intake valves. But the Honda fits are pretty bad for carbon build up to where they misfire. We have the walnut blaster but mainly use it on the fit.

    Got all injectors replaced on our TLX 3.5 at 104,000km for multiple cylinder misfire. Luckily under Acura Plus warranty. The Acura dealer close to where you work tried to say it's carbon build up and wanted several hundred for a cleaning first. Challenged them and the tech backed down. Common issue for injectors to fail on certain MY of the 3.5. Otherwise ours has been solid, now with 185,000km. Oil changes at home every 6k KM

      Not sure if Acura has the same bulletin as us. We don't get Acura information. They got extended to 10yrs. I don't think any of us has done carbon cleaning on the earth dream V6. We have the walnut blaster but only have used it on the Honda fit.

    Great video and thanks for showing the carbon build up on the intake valves. Not many videos actually show the valves.
    What was the mileage like on this Pilot? The video also shows how simple the old J35 is, and I look forward to a video with someone opening up the new DOHC one.

      It was just over 100k other than the injectors and the carbon in the valves, haven't seen any oil burning or haven't done any piston rings yet like the previous engine.

    Why are these injectors prone to failure or is that a more common DI Injector issue ?

      Direct injection problems. Can't remember how many miles but I have done them from anywhere from 60k kms and up

    Is the fuel jectirs common to be a issue on the v6 we have a 2017 and its jumping rpms and all lights are on in the dash I read it could be the injectors it runs smooth at times then doest’t don’t think it’s the transmission has 109k on it

      Yea it's a common issue where they extend the warranty on them. Have it scanned to see if it has any of the codes listed in the bulletin.

      I have a V6 2018 doing all that same stuff and eventually turned off. I had it towed to dealership and they said it’s a common issue and they replaced the fuel injector at no cost covered by recall/extended warranty on it.

    Thanks for the video. Have you seen DI injectors cause rich codes? I'm assuming the only failure mode in this case would be dribbling extra fuel past their pintles when they are supposed to be closed.
    I've seen plenty of injectors back in the day cause lean code(s), often adding the generic/redundant P0170; those were all conventional SFI Hondas.

      Yes I have seen both rich and lean but usually on the Honda they will also set the a/f variation between cylinder codes.

      There are other ways that can cause a rich condition on direct injection. Either from oil dilution or the high pressure fuel pump will leak into the engine and you get a rich condition that way east to check is by pinching off the PCV and watch to see if your fuel trims change.

      @@theoffroadingmechanic Yes, I've done elimination steps like PCV pinch-off, ensuring evap purge flow valve doesn't leak, etc on these. I'm most curious how exactly injectors cause enrichment in the real world, not just my speculation.

      Ahh ok maybe I can help you with your answer. With direct injection they can leak sure you can get a rich code for more fuel. But also a poor spray pattern is also important to help atomize fuel so it can vaporize. Poor spray pattern can also cause a rich code because fuel has to vaporize before it can burn. Liquid fuel doesn't burn what burns is the vapors and your a/f sensor interpreted that as a rich condition as it comes out the exhaust. Sometimes when you put a borescope into the cylinders and you see liquid fuel on the top of the piston but you don't actually see fuel leaking from the injectors is most likely poor spray pattern not allowing the fuel to vaporize. And you will also know if you have a leaking injector if you watch your high pressure fuel rail sensor pressure drop as you let it sit which I have seen before. I use to have a video on it but I had to take it down because a certain manufacturer didn't want me making videos anymore on the brand.

      You may want to check for the extended warranty for this repair rather than doing it yourself. So you don't have to pay out of pocket.

      Honestly I don't remember I've done so many and they range from low mileage to high mileage.

    Aye friend I started to get a miss fire on cylinder #1 I replaced the coil and stayed good for about 3 weeks then I got the miss fire again on cyl 1 replaced the coil again and same thing is it possible that it can b the injector and is #1 cylinder on the rear close to timing belt?

      No need to change injectors. They are simply washed out, replacing the microfilter, Teflon and rubber. Then check 40-120 Bar and put it back into the car.

    Check out "I Do Cars" tear down of a Honda V6. 3 or 4 of the cylinders lost the rods. Had a hole in the block you could put your fist through.

      It also depends on the grade of fuel like 86 88 91 or fuckin even corn gas shit yea I'll run my vehicle on corn gas
