    Would be interesting to see how the Modified Power Grip and Fan Grip and Climo Fork Grip would compare with these.

      I’ll eventually try more. I’m also interested in stacked because it’s basically what I normally do with dip flexion but with more of the fingertips on the flight plate.

    I've always thrown with the fingers flexed as the extension grip feels so bad, but these are really interesting statistics. Now I need to try max distance with the fingers extended.

    • @disc-golf-neil
      @disc-golf-neil  4 месяца назад

      If you’re not used to it, you’ll probably need to practice a little bit to get the fingers ready for max loading in that position.
      I’ve thrown with the flexion before here and there with full power so I think I was decently prepared for it but def could’ve gained more probably.

    I think your climbing background may explain why extension feels more natural and seems to yield greater strength for you. I too use a more extended position and have a climbing background. While a full crimp position felt awkward when i first started climbing, it felt very natural when i started to play disc golf (which was long after i had started climbing and built up stength in the crip position).
    I think the curled position is safer and more comfortable for folks who haven't built up the tendon strenth for the full crimp/extended grip.

      Yeah, it’s definitely made the extension grip more comfortable for me than the typical person, but I was also very comfortable and strong in climbing with open hand and my favorite climbs were crimpy ones where I’d always practice open hand first and only change to a more aggressive grip when limit climbing. I also did hang and campus board open hand.
      I need to also try the curled flexion grip with extra finger curl, some people do it with quite a bit more finger curl, maybe that will yield different results.

    Excellent detail and analysis. Definitely food for thought should I purchase a TD myself.

    Literally just had this realization the other day before I saw this video. I tried extending the dip joint. Think I sprained it. I can still throw in flexion with no pain but if I try extending again hurts to throw. Interesting to see it leads to faster throws for you. I do feel like I gained about 15-20 feet when throwing like that but not worth an injury.

    • @btubbs00123
      @btubbs00123 2 месяца назад

      Well I should say, sprined the joint below it, the second one.

    • @btubbs00123
      @btubbs00123 2 месяца назад +1

      I think it might be faster because you can get about the same strength with that grip but the disc can slip out faster when the joints are in extension so less time in contact for things to go wrong.

    • @btubbs00123
      @btubbs00123 2 месяца назад

      Oh and the added friction on the flexion grip help with the adv and wobble.

    • @disc-golf-neil
      @disc-golf-neil  2 месяца назад

      Yeah definitely takes some conditioning for your joints to be used to it. Also remember that whatever grip you use you didn’t just start throwing your max speed with it without working your way up to that max speed. But now that you have that max speed it means you don’t have to work your way up to it so you can go too hard with a change that isn’t conditioned for that speed.
      Nick Krush bruised the tip of his finger bone from the DIP flexion grip because it puts more pressure on that part of the finger and he’s throwing like 90mph which is nuts.

    For me the extension puts uncomfortable pressure on those joints so I settled on the flexion grip pretty quickly. I also don't think that I could throw anhyzers as well with the extension grip as that throw feels like it loads more pressure onto the middle 2 fingers.

      Same here.. strained my middle and ring finger tendons on flexion grip and it made me change to extension grip.

    How far are you throwing currently?

    • @disc-golf-neil
      @disc-golf-neil  3 месяца назад +1

      450 max on flat ground with both a hyzer flip to S curve or an anhyzer S curve. Most of the time it's closer to 400-430.
      Many of the lower 400's probably have the speed to get 450 but are a little off on one of the angles and / or the disc stability doesn't match the angles. My tech disc speeds show I should be able to get between 450-480 once in a while it's harder of course at those max speeds to have every angle balanced well with the disc choice and the wind.
      My disc golf form progression playlist shows a lot of the distances in the field.

      @@AustinVang9 yes with my current grip, tern, shryke, sidewinder for the hyzer flips and boss, destroyer, wraith for the anhyzer s curve shots all in champ or halo.

    When you "turn the key 9:35 " throwing form, is your wrist neutral or are you also thinking of pouring tea as your arm extends?

    • @disc-golf-neil
      @disc-golf-neil  4 месяца назад

      I do not think about or try to pour the tea when I’m turning the key because I can get so much nose down with turn the key so I figured, why bother. Especially since not pouring the tea is more comfortable than doing it so if I don’t have to do it that’s nice.
      Pouring the tea isn’t really uncomfortable or anything for me though. I do want to test both I just keep forgetting too because even if it gives me more nose down i prob wouldn’t use it since I can still turn the key alone to get as much nose down as I need.
      When I turn the key with the F1P-3 grip alignment (grip alignment test vids), I do get extra nose down and that grip alignment seems to encourage me to pour the tea without really trying to.

    Just to blow your mind I throw faster and with more spin with only 3 fingers on drivers, 4 on mids/putters. Never use my pinky.

    • @disc-golf-neil
      @disc-golf-neil  2 месяца назад

      Have you tested this with a tech disc? The spin in particular. I haven’t seen any spin increases with less fingers.
      I wonder if it’s more about taking some fingers off making your wrist more comfortable / better range of motion to curl more naturally that gives the extra spin.
      I’ve tried the gossage style grip and it doesn’t increase spin for me, might lower it slightly. Need to test it again tho.

    • @MJV90
      @MJV90 2 месяца назад +1

      @@disc-golf-neil yeah had it confirmed cuz the pro at the shop thought I was nuts.
      You had it right. It allows me to get more curl on my wrist
      And it keeps the wrist "looser" flexing your pinky that hard will tighten all the muscles in your forearm giving you less whip.

    I think im similar.. but extension sometimes made me release late and not get enough spin but i have gotten higher speed with it…
