Good Job ..... You had more information in your video than the total of the last 20 I watched about breakers. Your experience and wisdom is very valuable! Thanks!
Thank you for this sir! Exactly the info I needed to replace a breaker. I have a CH and now know that they look differently on the back and shouldn't be interchange!
Thank you, this is what we need more of, people explaining things that are not easy to find out and showing you exactly what they look like. I used this to locate the CH260 breaker I needed.
This is very helpful. Walking through the breaker section of the hardware store (other than knowing that my new Murray load center needs Murray breakers) has been a mystery until I saw this.
Is there a way to tell what breaker type you have in your panel box just by looking at the box or the breakers in it? I want to add a 60amp to my main panel and need to know if I should research BR type, QO type, Eaton, Square D, etc..... How can I tell what breakers and what connectors are needed?
Yes, there should be a label or sticker inside the cover of your panel box indicating who manufactured the box. For example, if Siemens manufactured the panel box, the you use Siemens breakers. Sometimes the label / stickers are hard to find, but they should be there. If the label was removed, or covered up - both big no nos - then you may be able to see the brand on the face of the breakers. This is most obvious on Square D breakers. If you can’t tell the manufacturer by looking at the panel box or the face of your breakers, then it might be time to call a certified, licensed electrician. Working inside your panel box can kill you if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Is it common practice to match the breakers already in use? I had some left over from an old sub panel I disassembled when I moved some years ago so thought I'd like to re-use them.. It's the same type and the same size, with the stab type that fits on the bus, but a different brand. It hooks in fine too, but it won't quite snap flat.. Makes a connection and works. The panel cover even goes back on. It holds, and the cover holds it in completely. Is this okay to leave, or should I try to find the identical same?
FYI. SQUARE D SDT120 1&2 pole, which are found in mobile homes are white. They are obsolete but can be bought on ebay as used (not recommended} or refurbished. Good video by the way.
indeed. Just ordered a Square D QO2020C and they're $50-60 each! The newer QOT2020C models are about half the price. Older QO load centers like mine use the QO (has the 2 clips on the back) vs newer load centers use the QOT which has 1 clip, 1 hook.
Hello ya'al, I have a question... I have a Bryant type BR breaker BR2100 CU-AL, my questions are what does the type mean and what does CU-AL mean? Thanks!
My camper has a Gould box and my friend's house has a Crouse-Hinds box. I read that it is now illegal to use another brand of breaker, However Wikipedia says that Crouse Hinds was bought by Cooper, which was bought by Eaton, which also bought Westinghouse, making those all interchangeable. My friends panel contains breakers made by Eaton, Westinghouse, and Seimens. So are the Seimens breakers illegal? I can't find Gould breakers, though again Seimens appears to make breakers labeled "Siemens ITE Gould". Did anyone buy the Gould company? what else is legal to put in a Gould box? I am also looking for an odd size, 13 amps, so the breaker will trip in my camper before the 15 amp breaker trips in the house, and also so I can use a 100 foot, 14 gauge extension chord. So anyway, where do I find a deal on a Gould 13 breaker?
@@TheNaturesFriends I found Siemens QP 10 amp, but am not sure if I'm wiling to go that low. I think I found the answer. Siemens QP fits Gould and Murray MP fits Crouse-Hinds. They are physically identical and I hear are even built on the same assembly line, but are in a legal grey area. Siemens does make a 13 amp, but it is some sort of European type and does not fit.
What are the differences between breakers and how a house is wired in the US vs the UK? Can someone make a side-by-side video to explain how both would be wired and show how everything would work? For example how a wire would go from the breaker box to a light switch to a light in a room in the UK and how it would be wired and how from the breaker box a plug outlet would be wired and the inner workings of how these plugs and switches work? Even if you have a cut-away of them?
what is BAB breaker in "BAB bolt-on miniature circuit breakers"? I can't find what type of panel it will fit. Why doesn't the goverment order company to make only one type of breaker? I feel so stupid to deal with this issue.
I have old westinghouse box , do I need to put anti- oxidation on the main breaker contacts before installing ? The original 200 amp finally deteriorated and it looks like a hom2200 may fit in its place. I will probably have to sand a bit of age off the contacts in the box

Very important reminder. Best way to fail, even w/ a newly trained home inspector is to mix breaker brands. This video is a must watch for all DIYers.
